I have a theory on why Glenn Beck is on the air. With apologies to those who deal with very real disabilities, I suspect that the reason Beck has a national platform because he has the Republican version of Tourette's. He has no filter for which he can keep himself from blurting out these ridiculous things. The problem is, he's just a buffoon with the analytical depth of an amoeba. So despite the fact that his ratings are less than half of his nearest competitor, Glenn keeps going with his fact-free rants so other pundits (Tucker Carlson, excluded) don't have to look so puerile.
Case in point: how many smears and nasty innuendo without any facts can you count when Glenn discusses Hillary Clinton's newly announced health care plan?

The first time that I saw this creature, he was arguing against fighting the horrific fires in the West that were threatening many homes and communities. Really -- at a time when real people were putting their lives on the line and enduring incredibly uncomfortable conditions this jackass was arguing that maybe we should just let the forests burn -- it's only natural. (So is cholera.)

I too wondered why CNN keeps this low rated blow hard on the air. I recently took a drive/vacation from New York to Florida. After staying in a lot of small and medium towns and viewing their motel's Television offerings. I came to the conclusion the reason for his continuance existence on CNN is Market Share, pre ad simple. There were many places that did not carry CNN or MSNBC but Fox was everywhere. I believe they use Beck as a Bribe to get accepted into these right wing dominated markets. After all, everyone knows "All bad news is local"!
I love 94% tax line. Who is he talking to? To pay that much and that was before Kennedy was President, you had to make over in 3 million. What would that be today....over 75 or 100 million. I'm personally outraged. I can't afford that!!!!

I am more than remotely curious as to why you give Glenn Beck 2 hours of air time each weekday. He is so full of hate, religious righteousness and complete ignorance and bigotry regarding Muslims, immigrants and Democrats who protests the war and the administration. Furthermore, his ideas and descriptions concerning the end of days is really creepy. It's almost like he's looking forward to the Apocalypse. The scariest aspect of Beck is his is his "comic" delivery. He delivers his hate messages with a big grin and lots of giggles.
His ratings are in the tank.
Please cut him loose. Take a cue from MSNBC and get a talking head with a brain in it.

Glenn Beck has what we used to call a "punch face"
I don't know what it is, but he has one of those faces that at least I can't help but want to punch. I think it is when he says something really stupid and racist and ends with that fucking pseudo fat rich kid smirk taunt. I think he knows that people want to punch his face, but since he is thousands of miles away in a nice AC studio he knows he can get away with his shit. I think the smirk is the certainty that he is getting away with his shit and he gets off on it, with just makes me want to punch that face even more.

This guy, for a short period of time, really caused me to be depressed with a number of factors in our society. I am amazed that he managed to find his way onto "liberal" CNN. I'm from North Jersey and work in Trenton. As a result, I'm not exactly a virgin when it comes to brash, stupid or offensive speech. It never really bothered me. In a good way, growing up around here, and having spent most of my life around here with a couple short stints in the midwest and the west coast, I can say this area really only made me prone to be offended by stupidity. On my commute to work, I'm not exactly choosey with what I listen to. I channel surf. Glen Beck had the morning show out of an AM station in Philadelphia that came in range at a point in my commute. So, every so often, I'd tune in. There was this one particular time where I got to hear his genius rework of the Brady Bunch theme song to pull off a jingoistic attack on the French. It was, with no exageration, the dumbest hate entertainment I'd ever endured. And I've endured a lot of it, some of which has been, at the very least, somewhat amusing at times, even if not PC. But, this was just crap. What followed up? A bunch of callers testifying to how greath they thought it was. I haven't been able to tune in since. I find it scarey that there are actually people that fit the lowest common denominator so well, who actually find this guy entertaining or knowledgable. Say what you want about any radio entertainer that uses offensive garbage as part of their schtick, whether it's Limbaugh or Stern, and it just shows how talentless this fool is. It really left me with the impression that, even in adulthood, there are still people who haven't evolved past a 6th grade mentality that you'd find in some stupid banal popularity contest.
No offense to C&L, as I absolutely love this site. But, this tool really is someone best left ignored since, over the years, I haven't been inclined to think his base is either strong or even loyal, and that any attention he gets will just slightly delay his imminent fade into obscurity.
Last week I meant to block programs like Beck from my cable. I got side tracked with emergency Vet visits unfortunately. I will try to do that this week.

I have to agree with Stossel and Beck on this. The government will not get health care right. I for one, do not want to fit the bill for smokers and fatties, the like of Micheal Moore who can't even take care of themselves when they have the option. Why should I pay for Cancer McSmokyton's Lungectomy or Fatty McFatterson's diabetes and knee treatments. No thank you.

The Rationalization Party
Republicans use rationalization to counter and explain many things. Sometimes I think they should change their name to The Rationalization Party; it would be fitting to those who want to hide behind their true motives.
I once heard a republican make the point about having the freedom to choose. Although I cannot remember who this Republican was, I will never forget his line of reasoning. He asked the question about choice with a "no brainer" attitude. When he finished talking about the how important it was to have the right to choose, he then equated his topic to the right not to have health care managed by the government. "Tell your representative you have the right to choose who manages your health care." That call to freedom ended in the HMO health care system we have today. Yea, the one where you have to call someone in a non medical office in another state to request permission to be treated. How sweet freedom is. Thank my lucky stars for Republican choice.
My point is this: You can explain anything within a set of perfect circumstances. However, does those circumstance pertain to you? When it comes to a political Party who is on the way out, in this case Republicans, you better know what they are not telling you. Do you feel safe? Will you feel safer if I take away your right to privacy, and your bottled water you carry on the airplane? Will you stay married longer if there is a band on homosexual marriages?
The right of choice is important, but make sure it is not being used to choose the wrong thing.

Beck is Biff Tannen, the bully from Back To The Future. An evil ignorant smarmy insecure at the core oaf who thinks he's...get this...funny. Or at least wants to be. I made myself watch five minutes of a special where he delivered his 'stand-up' routine to a group of fat white suburbanites with the intelligence of packing peanuts. His whole routine was mocking his wife in a high pitched voice supposedly an imitation of her, while making Brittany Spears look like a Rhodes Scholar in comparison. His whole comedy bit was based on His Stupid Wife With The Annoying Voice That I've Bred With Multiple Times. And it was really really nasty stuff - a laundry list of reasons as to why his wife is a waste of space while completely forgetting to inform everyone that he is one as well. I had to turn it off before I put my fist through my TV screen.
I've written CNN so many times about this guy, strictly from catching clips from here or Media Matters. They must believe I really watch his shows every day all the way through so their getting their advertising revenue. Big Mistake.
Folks, the best thing you can do with Biff and His Ratings Of Craptactularness is ignore him. Seriously. Don't even bother writing CNN. Just stop paying attention. Correction, stop giving him attention.

In the most recent debate, I asked the other candidates how many troops they would leave in Iraq and for what purposes. I got no answers. The American people need answers. If we elect a president who thinks that troops should stay in Iraq for years, they will stay for years — a tragic mistake.
Clinton, Obama and Edwards reflect the inside-the-Beltway thinking that a complete withdrawal of all American forces somehow would be “irresponsible.” On the contrary, the facts suggest that a rapid, complete withdrawal — not a drawn-out, Vietnam-like process —would be the most responsible and effective course of action...
...Let’s stop pretending that all Democratic plans are similar. The American people deserve precise answers from anyone who would be commander in chief. How many troops would you leave in Iraq? For how long? To do what, exactly? And the media should be asking these questions of the candidates, rather than allowing them to continue saying, “We are against the war . . . but please don’t read the small print.”

There was something about that episode that was a little too real.
Why is he still on the air? He's part and parcel of what is wrong with CNN and the whole MSM which is why I canceled my cable TV subscription. Until such time as they can stop spewing government propaganda, exploiting sensational material such as a known murderer that just happens to dumb enough to be part of a petty burglary, or reporting on the latest pretty young blond white woman to go missing, I prefer to educate myself using the internet and books.

Glenn forgets (conveniently) that Iraq was producing oil and we were getting some of that oil prior to our invasion of the country. Now, they're producing almost no oil, and we're getting none. Boy, that policy sure was a success, wasn't it?

Hi Nicole, I enjoy what you do and your site is in my menu bar. I have tourette's. One misunderstanding is we have no filters. Tourette's is analogous to having an itch, one can choose to suppress the urge or indulge it, unlike some well paid commentators. Another misunderstanding is that tourette's = coprolalia which affects less than 15% of people with tourette's. Coprolalia involves uttering words that are culturally taboo or used out of context, perhaps "commentator coprolalia" next time? Thanks!

Here is the deal,
it is going to take us about 50 years to run out of oil, and coincidentally it will take just about as long to initiate a new delivery system for whatever new source of energy we come up with. Soooo..... Bush, repugs, PNAC, and whatnot believe that we needed to secure the oil in that region before Russia or China did, then we lose.

how much choice do we really have with health care as it is right now? When Hillary failed with her first health care initiative in the 90's I think the jury was still out as far as what health care options were best for Americans. Now that we've seen our wonderful free market heath care system only get worse, I think people like Beck with his gloom and doom predictions are just howling at the moon. The whole government,socialized,commie scare tactics Beck and his ilk push plays to an ever dwindling audience. Americans are getting hammered by health care costs and we're just not buying into his BS anymore. And on a personal note,I think Beck is just a complete tool and don't know how anyone could stand more than 5 minutes of the guy.
