Harry Reid slams Limbaugh over "Phony Soldiers" remarks with Updates
By John Amato Sunday Sep 30, 2007 5:55pmHarry Reid came down on Rush Limbaugh today over his "phony soldier" troop rant. I want to know why there are no left talkers on Armed Forces radio? Tom Harkin tried to get Ed Schultz on and then?....The Republican led Congress did nothing of course because they know how to play their games....Just look at this garbage from Rep.Kingston: "Rep. Kingston Introduces Resolution ‘Commending’ Rush Limbaugh."
Reid: “Yet Rush Limbaugh took it upon himself to attack the courage and character of those fighting and dying for him and for all of us. Rush Limbaugh got himself a deferment from serving when he was a young man. He never served in uniform. He never saw in person the extreme difficulty of maintaining peace in a foreign country engaged in civil war. Ye he thinks that his opinion on the war is worth more than those who are on the front lines.
Jane wants Limbaugh pulled off Armed Forces radio...
What is the Senate’s business, however, is that Rush Limbaugh is on Armed Forces Radio Network. His show is broadcast daily to nearly a million troops in 177 countries. In a poll conducted earlier this year, only 35% of service members said they approved of George Bush’s handling of the war while 42% disapprove, and 41% say the US is not very or not at all likely to succeed. A full 37% say the US should never have gone to war. It’s their network, too.
It’s past the time for empty gestures. Senate Democrats should never have let the Cornyn bill onto the floor. Now it’s done, you can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. Take Rush off the air. Really, Senators, protecting the troops from this kind of abuse actually is your job.
Transcript below the fold
“Freedom of speech is one of our country’s most cherished values. Nothing sets us further apart than the countries and regimes we oppose than our belief that everyone’s opinion matters, and everyone has the right to express it. That is why, when we hear things on the radio that are offensive, by and large, we tolerate them.
“But last week, Rush Limbaugh went way over the line – and while we respect his right to say anything he likes, his unpatriotic comments cannot be ignored.
“During his show last Wednesday, Rush Limbaugh was engaged in one of his typical rants. This rant was unremarkable and indistinguishable from his usual drivel, which has been steadily losing listeners for years – until he crossed that line by calling our men and women in uniform who oppose the war in Iraq ‘phony soldiers.’ This comment was so beyond the pale of decency that it cannot be left alone. And yet, he followed it up with denials and an attack on Congressman Jack Murtha, a 37-year active member of the Marine Corps.
“We have been debating the Iraq war here in the Senate and throughout the country for not months, but years. There are good, patriotic Americans who favor the war – and good, patriotic Americans who oppose President Bush’s handling of it. Neither party holds a patent on patriotism. I know all my Republican colleagues would agree with that.
“Yet Rush Limbaugh took it upon himself to attack the courage and character of those fighting and dying for him and for all of us. Rush Limbaugh got himself a deferment from serving when he was a young man. He never served in uniform. He never saw in person the extreme difficulty of maintaining peace in a foreign country engaged in civil war. Ye he thinks that his opinion on the war is worth more than those who are on the front lines.
“And what’s worse – Limbaugh’s show is broadcast on Armed Forces Radio, which means that thousands of troops overseas and veterans here at home were forced to hear this attack on their patriotism. Rush Limbaugh owes the men and women of our Armed Forces an apology.

Rush Limbaugh - flunked out of college his freshman year. Never returned to higher education. Never served in the military. Yet millions of Americans get their political advice from him. How did this happen?
...and the Republicans respond by offering a Resolution commending the fat bastard!
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_100107/content/01125113.gues...
Game. Set. Match.
What will Harry do now? Cry?
limbaughlls deserves to do some time in a humvee driving around Iraq....then lets see what he has to say.........the guy is scum...and I'm being nice
Beagle @ 1:
really makes you wonder don't it....
What's Reid reading from? Another one of those strongly worded letters the Dems send out that are so effective?
... and what do the Republicans do in response? They offer up a Resolution COMMENDING Limbaugh!
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_100107/content/01125113.gues...
What will Harry do now....cry?
Is Congress is going to vote to condemn Limbaugh's statements like they did the MoveOn.org ad?
If not, then this is all BS.
Kingston and anyone foolish enough to follow his lead doesn't deserve to be in congress.
Gawd! the apathy of it all... This a$$hat needs to have the stuffin' knocked outta him! We used to settle this with a good thumping. How did these weiners come to rule the airwaves??! They were the kids that couldn't get an audience as kids... nobody listened to their blathering stupid talk. And now they've got these powerful avenues to spew their vitriol. Disgusting!!!
Beagle @ 1:
Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity... Go figure.
So where's the Democratic bill condemning Limbaugh? One good turn deserves another.
Man, I want to support the democrats. I want to believe they've got courage, savvy, balls.
Please tell me I'm just depressed and that the democrats are not as spineless and ineffective and
ridiculously poor at using the media to their advantage?
This is good and all, but Reid would be better off debating the depleted uranium in U.S. weapons that is going to have much more serious and longer term effects on the soldiers...
Oh...and there is that silly little thing with Iran about to start :P
Bring me some of that weak tea, Harry. I'm gettin' thirsty over here!
Reid is worthless.
Perhaps it should be called The Syncophants 1 and 2 instead of The Senate or The Congress from now on... then instead of senator, or congressman or congresswoman we can just call them what they are... syncophants!
If Kingston runs against Bill Gillespie (an Iraq war Veteran) in 2008 he's going down hard.

Look, I'm no fan of Limbaughs. He is the worst America has to offer in so many ways. But truly, was he not actually talking about that ONE phony soldier- the one who pretended to witness horrors in Iraq and then speak up about them for the left- when he made the remark? Yes, he might have said " soliders" plural, but really, come on-was he not just talking about those kinds of people- ones just like that one who pretended? Ive read the transcripts- at least I think I read the un edited ones. Really, can anyone trully put it al in context and PROVE outright what it is he said and whether he TRULY called those in the military who dissent phonty soliders? Because so far- from what Ive read- it appears as thought he is talking about that one phony soldier.... Anyone?
I bet Harry Reid coming after ya is like being chased down by an old lame toothless lion who THINKS he still has the nads...
Who cares? I am so tired of all this phony outrage.
Snowball @ 10:
I'm with you on this one....this clown has been doing things like this for to long.....I think he went to far on this one.....lets see the dems go after him....uggghhhh..The guy did every thing he could to get out of going...oh poor baby...got a cyst on his ass. He's the only one I know of who got out of going because of that one.they lance those things.
Steve @ 18:
Steve...Lush Rimbaughlls is a very calculating guy.He knows exactly what he says.He said this to see if the Dems would come after him. When he has the Preznit and others in his pocket...well....he's almost untouchable..........almost.

GOP Rep. Kingston introduces House resolution "commending" Rush Limbaugh:
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/10/01/kingston-limbaugh-reid/
rush is a televangelist on radio. he knows how stupid his audience is and will say anything because he knows they'll believe anything he says. it's all about ratings, like everyting else.
Steve @ 18:
Actually that is what you would think if you read the cut transcript that Limbaugh posted. In all actuality he CHANGED the transcript after the fact to make it look that way. His original comments truly did speak about ANY soldier that disagrees with the war in Iraq.
http://mediamatters.org/items/200709280009?f=h_top
Yes... he is a f#@ckhead like that.
Sad times we live in, we have no representation in Washington. Both the Dems and Republicans are out for themselves and dont care about anything beyond that.
I sure hope Ron Paul wins the next election, one can only hope. I dont agree with him 100% but I know he can be trusted, which is saying allot.
mudshark @ 3:
Rep. Kingston can be his wing man.....and not in the fuckin green zone, either.
Steve @ 18:
Truly, he was not. He was tainting the motives of any soldier who ever offered an opinion of the Iraq war contrary to the Bush opinion. He made up this shit about Jesse MacBeth only after a real vet, Jon Solzt, offered to appear on his show and prove him to be a goddamn cowardly liar. Furthermore, anyone with two brain cells to rub together can figure this out.
And you doth protest too much. Be thankful we do not have trollratings on this board as I would smite you with a donut if it were in my power. Now, go back to Clear Channel and watch some war porn.
American @ 27:

Photos of phony soldiers

Reid is so ineffective. Maybe Pelosi can blink out a strong statement of her own.
Steve @ 18:
aha....another phony concern troll
sorry, that dog wont hunt
if you did listen to the show, then you would have heard el druggo responding to a caller who was saying that the media only talks to soldiers that come out of the blue....rush stated "phony soldiers" the caller repeated "phony soldiers"
he did not start talking about macbeth until 2 minutes after that line
and in defending himself, rush brought up murtha (a decorated vet) and beauchamp (still serving in iraq)
you dittoheads lose
What an interesting set of comments.
VietVet8666 @ 34:
and what say you?
#18-Steve
You may have forgotten that Limbaugh also included Congressman Murtha in his tirade. The suggestion to take Limbaugh off the air in Iraq is a valid one considering that only 35 per cent of those in the Armed Forces believe that Bush is doing the right thing in Iraq. It is simply stunning that this chickenhawk is allowed carte blanche to say what he wants in Iraq with, I believe, absolutely no opposing point of view heard to counterbalance the propaganda that is given to those troops in Iraq. What Limbaugh is doing is probably worse than what the pro war Bob Hope did in Vietnam, when he peddled his government propaganda USO tours to the troops in Vietnam. The difference is that the troops saw through Hope; can the same thing be said of the troops today in Iraq?
The Truth Hurts @ 20:
I hear that. I mean, really, how can anyone be surprised at ANYTHING Rush says? He's a grade-A moron and a hatemonger. Has been for years. Not even very good at it either, honestly -- he's boring and predictable.
But I AM really surprised that he was on Armed Forces Radio in the first place... Wow. Why?! What would posses people to allow that? Stupid. I do hope that gets changed (and not replaced with something like Al Franken or a lefty windbag either). The troops do hard work. They don't need to be politicized any damn further.
AFR is also one of our voices to the world. Let's not put out either side's trash for company.
And yes, you need to read the transcript again if you think he meant one soldier. He was very clear -- he thinks ALL soldiers that are interviewed and think we've already done as much as we can in Iraq are phony soldiers. "Where do they get them, these phony soldiers?' he asks. Iraq, I'd imagine.
abarts @ 32:
So that's what she's been doing all this time? Morse Code! Wish I had realized sooner.
uncle joe mccarthy @ 35:
i like it here (although i wish it were a truly free-speech zone)
[Quit complaining about the 911 thing. There are plenty of sites that will accommodate your desire. There is no such thing as free speech. We all self edit. This is a moderated site so deal. You aren't saying much of anything other than "nice site," and "wish I could go on about 911." I'm tired of your asides about this-Sitemonitor]
They should move to get Rush Scumball kicked off of armed forces radio for this.
And stop with the Ron Paul stupidity. He's no savior. He's just a Republican who isn't totally batshit insane; he's only two-thirds insane. There are no good Republicans anymore. If they were worth anything, they'd would have left or they would have been kicked out of that evil party a long time ago. As for Ron Paul, his supporters never bother to say why anyone should vote for him.
If you want to vote for a honest Republican, pick one of the current Democratic candidates as they are what the Republicans should be offering. There are no real liberals running for President.
Another freakin' "strongly worded" letter?????? Give me a break! Rush was wrong about who the phonies are, it's the morons who call themselves "Democratic leaders."
The dems are weak. You can't simply play turnabout a week after the GOP hands your ass to you. Harry needs to vacate his seat to someone younger and more cynical, if his idea of political strategy is this limp gambit. So very tired of the Dems pathetic efforts to halt the evil GOP.
While he waited until the very end to make even the most cursory reference to MoveOn's "Betray Us" ad and how the Republicans threw a hissy-fit over anyone having the audacity to be concerned that General Patraeus might report WH spin vs on-the-ground reality, Reid never mentions MoveOn or Patraeus by name, nor does he use the word HYPOCRITES in any form.
Very disappointing.
It's a a real war with real people who die, based on phony information and being supported by phony politicians and phony pundits for phony reasons. Phuck you, Rush, you phony phuck.
VietVet......I'm a vet and so are a lot of people here.(I'll let them id themselves)....You know and I know this is bullshit....
Helping El Limpbaugh's ratings.
mudshark @ 45:
mudshark,
what did you do? and when?
swarmofkillermonkeys @ 37:
Exactly what has been said by any left leaning pundit that even comes close to the evil lies said by Rush Scumball?
I guess that makes my nephew a phoney Marine....He's not going to like hearing that..And I can say with certainty that there are a lot of our guys and gals over there..who are going to be really pissed off at Lush.
VietVet8666 @ 47:
1975 to 1978 ...7TH Infantry Division..no combat(but I have family who did see it)and yes I do consider myself lucky........ps...I enlisted.
Viet Vet..we've been serving for ....oh.....around a hundred years...maybe more.
Casanova Frankenstein @ 24:
These guys are insane. He is "commending" a crazed, druggie bigot who called US soldiers (who are getting blown up daily) "phony", and then says those who don't give war profitteers billions more for war "don't support the troops"?
We are deep in Orwells '84. This is depressing. The democrats have no desire to do anything. From Gore not fighting the disenfranchisement of Black voters in 2000, to Kerry not doing it either in '04, to letting them spy and suspend habeus corpus, to THIS!
If Hillary, Edwards or Obama do not win next year, I am leaving this place. No BS.
mudshark @ 50:
you've got my respect
i volunteered for Vietnam (details omitted)
served as an intelligence officer in III Corps 1971-72
I periodically listen to the shortwave version of Armed Forces Radio Network. They play one hour of each: Limbauh, Hannity, Colmes, and Schultz.
I cannot say what their satellite shows do, but as far as shortwave, AFRN has actually been very good about it. They also air two hours of NPR in the early morning and afternoon. Credit where credit is due.
Beagle @ 1:
Yes, the right wing gets reality interpreted for them by a guy who couldn't hack it through English 101 and cushy electives.

I don't know, and I don't wanna know. :) I (and I'd wager the most of the rest of America) am sick blowhards puffing their chests. I really don't give a damn what team flag they're waving.
Sometimes over-reacting to the original offense isn't really a great answer. I think this is one of those times. Why not a middle way?
I just saw the headline from the Washington Post saying: Congress Wants to Curb War Contractors
it's being lead by Rep. David Price, I don't know much about him but clearly here he is doing the right thing for sure. And it's about time someone stepped up to the plate on this issue.
here's the link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/01/AR200710...
Why do progressives continue to think that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid's ridiculous whining is going to make any difference at all? Neither of them care a shit about ending the Iraq War or listening to the American people. It is that simple. As soon as progressives can see that they don't care, the quicker a strategy can be developed and carried through to do the work that needs to be done. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are distractions and have no integrity or credibility.
Congress should not be validating Rush Limbaugh. They've got bigger fish to fry than this POS.
VietVet8666 @ 53:
allow me to explain for the site monitor
once on raw story, they ran one piece on bill maher attacking truthers
the flame war lasted over 500 posts, and nothing was achieved...just alot of yelling back and forth
i suggest you use youtube...there are tons of truther vids and posts over there
WTF?
Ahem, okay, look, this is the thing:
CONGRESS HAS NO BUSINESS CONDEMNING ANYONE'S EXERCISE OF THEIR FREEDOMS
Not MoveOn, not Rush, not VoteVets, not the Christian Coalition, not the PTA, not Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, not the National Right To Life Foundation, not the National Organization of Women, not the NRA, not the ACLU, not the Klan, NO ONE!!!
For the living fuck of fuck's fucking sake, you motherfuckers, at least GET YOUR ASS BACK TO DOING NOTHING!!!
This is worse than nothing.
Individual congress FOLK should comment all they want...condemn or commend away...because that is YOUR RIGHT.
But making it the official business of the Congress to condemn OPINIONS is not just a recipe for lunacy, it's tyranny.
Okay, it's minor, Mini Me tyranny, not Stalin tyranny, but tyranny nonetheless.
We must all be free from official governmental rebuke for anything that isn't, and this is the thing...ILLEGAL.
What Rush said was legal, what MoveOn said was legal, Olbermann, Hannity, Colmes, Coultergeist, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart and on and on are engaged in FULLY LEGAL ACTIVITIES, which the government of the United States of America has NO BUSINESS commenting on.
Look, it's not hard: secure our rights, spend our money wisely and protect our nation. The rest is up to us, you yahoos.
Viet Vet no my friend you have my respect.....what happened to you guys was rotten..my cousin was there for TET.......as a matter of fact..I'm going to his birthday party soon......I could go on and on and on.....it's just something we do.But i did tell my other nephew... no way not this one.
diana @ 54:
#54-Diana
In the example that you cited, Colmes is at best a lukewarm liberal, so the troops are being fed propaganda that is at worst four to one against the progressive point of view. As for NPR [also known as National Petroleum Radio], I would have to say that their slant on the news could hardly be considered left wing. When the troops are allowed to see and hear Democracy Now!, then the playing field may finally begin to be more leveled.
Moveon's next big ad in the WSJ has to be a condemnation of Nancy "Betrayus" Pelosi and Harry "Betrayus" Reid.
I'm more offended by Kingston than I am by Rush. This was a slap in the face of every American what Kingston did. When is this asshole Kingston up for re-election? MoveOn, Huffington, C&L, you and me etc...needs to do everything in our power to remove this fucking c*nt (sorry, pretty angry over his arrogance) from power. This shit dick voted to condemn MoveOn and is praising Limbaugh? Just look at his photo, he's another prick politician trying to get a life pension and healthcare for life because all he's qualified for is lying and stealing from the lower and middle class. He was on Real Time for one reason. So we could laugh at him. And we did.
Sorry for all the profanity but this one really pisses me off. This guy should be hung by his nipples.
>>> Just covering my ass. But I would love to see him hanging from his nipples.
Better yet, I hope he gets busted buying meth from a gay black prostitute.
The Senate passed the Iraq funding in the 648 billion Defense bill today.
VietVet...theres a whole lotta people here who deserve respect.......but don't get it.....ThanK You for all of us.
ALL, Yes ALL, Republicans are Heartless, Dirty, SCUMBAGS!
Yes, I would love to hear Democracy Now on AFRN, and I also agree that Colmes is not a strong voice for us. However, it is a start, and at least we are getting some voice on AFRN. I just wanted to be 'fair' about it.
Limbaugh is 100% correct. Jesse McBeth is a phony soldier.
diana @ 54:
Thats not what my nephew says.......but hey what does he know..he's only on his second tour..he's 20 now..and he already has one Purple Heart....that was on his first tour.....so I say Lush Rimbaughlls is like Tokyo Rose.
mrogi @ 68:
Puleeeeesseee....go enlist.
Rush is scum- but free speech applies to everyone- If we try to silence the right, we are no better than they are (as they want to silence the left)..
hubcap halo @ 12:
Democrats on track to OK further funding despite Iraq policy divide
WASHINGTON - Powerless in their effort to bring troops home from Iraq, Senate Democrats were on track Monday to help pass a defense policy bill that would authorize another $150 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The vote comes as the House planned to approve on Tuesday separate legislation requiring that President Bush give Congress a plan for eventual troop withdrawals.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21089400/
I'm convinved right wingers want the troops to die-They get a near sexual rush at having yet another dead soldier to worship as a hero...They love the troops- provided they die- and if they don't die, they want them to shut the hell up...
Very sad- if we are fighting for 'freedom'- why do right wingers oppose the exercise of freedom?
Dissent IS freeedom
Choam Nomsky @ 71:
true.. free speech is one thing....but slander is another.
This may be very true. I can only pick up the U.S. based transmissions. Iraq may be receiving there shortwave transmissions from a different transmiter, and therefore may have different programing. I can only tell you what I hear.
The Fat One, El Rushbo, responded today:
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_100107/content/01125112.gues...
in essence, saying "Bring it on".
> true.. free speech is one thing….but slander is another.
And that's why we have courts.
I mean, does Congress REALLY have nothing better to do? Because, you know, we could start spending their salaries on armor.
mudshark @ 74:
Thats the exact same thing right wingers say when we slam Bush and this assinine war-
Choam Nomsky @ 77:
yes your right......the difference is the truth.
Harry Reid is useless. The fact that they are even talking about this crap on the floor of the Senate in a country that claims to believe in freedom of speech is a joke.
I expect Congress' approval rating to be down to 5 the next time a poll comes out.
ST @ 81:
are you saying that members of congress do not have the freedom of speech to criticize another public person?
keeping silent about these issues hasnt worked
taking the high road hasnt worked
get the fuck out of your ivory tower and get into the trenches and fight
or step the fuck off
JasonS @ 78:
hey if they can drag Bill Clinton thru the mud and spend..what?40 mill.......then I say lets shut this @#$%&&^%#@...thru the courts and shut his lyin ass up..............this guy distorts the truth so much that he has divided the nation with his lies.
mudshark @ 80:
Come on! That is no different than the way right wingers think- Rush provided the noose to destroy himself- but i oppose and government action to silenece him- what then would prevent them from silencing people on the left? If you don't see that free speech applies to ALL Americans- not just the left- but the left, AND the right, you are no better than the righties...
Choam Nomsky @ 73:
when has criticism equaled silencing???
staying silent and not taking rush seriously is what allowed the repugs to take power in the first place
I gotta go...but I'll be back
Choam Nomsky @ 85:
the difference is the truth brother......what part of that don't you get?
What is wrong with these cowardly, spineless, elitist, out-to-lunch Democrats in the Senate and House is that they dismiss the slop that the O'Reillys and Limbaughs of the world dispense daily as inconsequential or irrelevant. The problem with this dismissive indifferent approach is that the lies and spin these tinhorns propagate daily can actually have feet, and can metastasize and consequently clog up the discourse on more serious matters such as the fuckin' war in Iraq. One lie displaces one truth, not to mention that it gives the lemmings of these ignorant clowns more ammo to dislike anything labeled "Liberal" or "left", despite it being wrong or based on a lie. I'd hate to think about how many of these blind, uneducated listeners actually made a difference in the last presidential election. Y'all think the idiots who look to these lying clowns (Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, etc) for their information and red meat did not make a difference?
i swear, sometimes this blog acts like it has no clue as to what's going on.
Oh well.........not surprised at all. Once again, Republicans shove it in the Democrats faces because they know they are too afraid to do anything about it.
This amounts to daring the Dems to do something. But they won't. Sad, very sad.
We are pinning our hopes on spineless wimps.
Harry Reid is even more stupid then I gave him credit for. He and his already look like weak fools. Now they will really look pathetic.
I am so close to changing parties right now. I don't want to belong to the party of mindless gullible dolts.
mudshark @ 72:
Don't feed the trolls.
ST @ 82:
Absolutely right. What happened to "Progressive" defense of free political speech? This whole "controversy" (MoveOn to Rush) is pure unadulterated waste of time, waste of money, political posturing of the worst kind on both sides. Shame on the Dems taking their eye off the ball...
To wit, (Hey, Harry)...nice vote on $150B Mo Money for the "War on Terror". 92 to 3??
Wake The F Up! Right-wing slight of hand is workin jus fine.
The extreme left and extreme right in this country go full circle at some point and merge, and basically become the same entity- they may have polar opposite political views, but share common tactics- and bother share a rigidity in their thinking, intollerance for differning views, and conempt for dissent (unless those speaking out have the same political views) . Logic and reason fly out the window when talking to extremists, and holding an intelligent conversation with these people is futile- be it with the radical right wing Christian zealots who crave a Christian theocracy, or the radical left loonies who deny planes ever crashed on 9/11, and it was all some kind of conspiracy- the radical left and right are equally nuts....
That being said, i defend their mutal rights to voice their opinions.
mudshark @ 88:
The censorship part, "Brother".
Choam Nomsky @ 95:
defend all you want
and i stand by my right to criticize them both equally
and that includes the wacko chomsky
uncle joe mccarthy @ 86:
Criticism and silencing are obviously different- i'm reacting to those calling for Rush's removal...Thats not up the government, but to the station that employs him, and whether or not they want to renew their contract..
I encourade criticism of Rush, that's what dissent is all about, speaking out...I find Rush disgusting- he's a glutton on every level- he's morbidly obese, he puts money ahead of the well being of human beings, and he's a bigot...
Rush the Hate Mongering Bigot who Glorifies the Oppressors, and Degrades the Oppressed!
Will Bullshit for hours just to bury the real issues from the people!
The Kiss Ass Puppet of the Neo-Con Billionaires who never pay taxes and none of their kids every go to Wars!
The same idiots who justify the gouging by the Oil companies, outsourcing of our jobs and cutting our wages!
Rush: A true American Traitor, who is afraid to show his face in public!
Rush, through out that episode, was talking specifically about Jessie MacBeth. Then when he interviewed an analyst he used vaguities. He does that sort of crap all the time which gets him attention all the time. The truth is he named names and the people he was speaking out against were frauds and sheisters who blatantly peddled lies. He has been out spoken in revealing those who have tried to tear down US forces from the inside. Despite that he apologized somewhat insincerely (is he ever sincere) for his vaguities and clarified his message which was on par with he said through the show.
Rush is not a representative of any one. He is a host of one of the tons of entertainment news shows out there. He makes money for himself by producing this material and people buy it. It's hardly perverse but instead it is very common. We reward audacity in entertainers and anyone with any sensibility takes this in with a grain of salt.
The scary part is Reid is actually suggesting Sedition. The reason Rush is on Armed Forces Radio is because he volunteered his time multitudes of times. He bullishly stood for the military forces consistently so there is no fear from the military that he will betray the soldiers, the truth is he hadn't.
Let's stop the slumber party pillow fight and recognize the threat at the front door.
getalife @ 66:
Frack Rushbag. . .Why did the Demorats let this out? Time for a good-old-fashioned THIRD-PARTY!!! Maybe even a 4th party.. .How about a Marxist-Leninist Party!!! time to ACTUALLY throw the human scum out. Good fucking grief...
I thought "empty gestures" was the Democratic party's mission statement?
uncle joe mccarthy @ 97:
You have every right to criticize Rush- My post was in opposition to having him thrown off the radio- Ill agree with you, Rush is vile...
btw, I'm curious why you don't like Noam Chomsky- Its your right, and I defend your right to hold that view- True, Ive never read a single positive thing he's ever written about the US, so that does go against him- But thank goodness he's one of the few intellectuals on the left not to buy into this 9/11 conspiracy foolishness....
tit for tat, Stop attacking free speech Harry and Start figuring out a way to end this War!!!!!! Can't stand this Government anymore.
Reid can say anything he wants. The democrats are still to chiken shit to do anything about it. The have no courage.
Hey, you guys don't understand...if you don't support the Democrats, you won't get anything done!
Yeah, no reason to support any third party candidates.
The Democrats are doing a heckuva job.
Gotta keep supporting them.
They just need a little more power.
They just need a few more Senate seats.
They just need the presidency.
And THEN they'll get about the people's business.
Until then, hey, they have to bide their time somehow.
Yeah, I'm really feeling the caucus. Can't you feel it? The hard, throbbing caucus?
This is why I'm an Idependent-Both the Republican and Democratic parties suck. I'm very liberal on social issues (pro gay rights, pro choice, for TOTAL seperation of church and state), but other than that, I have a hard time voting for either party. Republicans and Democrats seem to be 2 halves of the same coin- they use the same tactics- they hurl mud at each other, and care only about the advancement of their own politcal party over the well being of the country. Dennis K is the only candidate that makes a lick of sense, but sadly i have no faith that America will vote for him...
Rush's comment was vile, but the reaction of the left was obviously payback for the right wing attack on Moveon.org.
Its as if both parties were manned by vindictive little children...
"Rush Limbaugh took it upon himself to attack the courage and character of those fighting and dying for him and for all of us," Reid continued. "Rush Limbaugh got himself a deferment from serving when he was a young man. He never served in uniform. He never saw in person the extreme difficulty of maintaining peace in a foreign country engaged in a civil war. He never saw a person in combat. Yet he thinks that his opinion on the war is worth more than those who have been on the front lines. And what's worse, Limbaugh's show is broadcast on Armed Forces Radio, which means that thousands of troops, overseas, and veterans here at home, were forced to hear this attack on their patriotism. Rush Limbaugh owes the men and women of our armed forces an apology."
Limbaugh quickly responded, and as noted at the Drudge Report website, threatened Reid to "say it to my face, Senator."
"Ladies and gentlemen, in the last half hour, Harry Reid took to the floor of the Senate and proceeded to spend five-to-seven minutes denouncing me, spreading the smear that started last week on this phony soldiers business," said Limbaugh on his syndicated show.
Limbaugh continued, "He has prepared a letter to be sent to the CEO of the company that syndicates this program, and that letter he asked as many senators as possible to sign, offering them the opportunity to demand of my syndicator that I be condemned for something that I did not say, which Harry Reid knows I did not say. The House of Representatives, I have just learned, is going to introduce a resolution this afternoon along the lines of the MoveOn.org resolution that was introduced last week, tit-for-tat, they want a vote in the House to condemn me, a private citizen, for something I did not say. These people have had three, four days now to learn the truth about this, and they no doubt know the truth, which doesn't matter. What they are trying to do is flood a false story into the Drive-By Media and have that survive and suffice as the evidence and as the story of what I said when it wasn't."
If Rush Limbaugh was reclassified 4F for Vietnam because of an (Inoperable) pilonidal cyst, shouldn't he still have that pilonidal cyst?
When I trained to work in the General Operation Room as a Navy Corpsman during the Vietman War, one of the more common operations was pilonidal cyst removal. It seems like a lotta folks made it into the Navy with a pilonidal cyst. It was one of the more common operations like hernia, and appendix removal that trainees scrubbed for while in school. Because those operations were common and routine, they were perfect for training.
The point is that if Rush Limbaugh's pilonidal cyst was indeed inoperable, then he should still have it.
All that was to say that the dems are pussies by choice. They will do nothing in the end.
Rush is a self serving bigoted jerk....This is old news...Aren't there more important issues to discuss?
Zulu @ 7:
EXACTLY!!!
BaScOmBe @ 110:
You're right....And if Bush decided to stay in office past 2008 (which will never happen, despite left wing doomsday proclimations), the Dems would fall to thier knees- again-and let Bush do whatever he wants...
The Republican party has been taken over by religious zealots, imperialists and proto fascists- The democratic party has been taken over by 9/11 conspiracy nuts, anarchists and staunch athiests.....As a result, moderates from both parties have been abandoned, and have become Independents by the tens of thousands...
I think both parties are imploding from within....
Choam Nomsky @ 95:
I agree in part...would you please post an example similar to Limbaugh.....or even close....for as long as he's been at it.
BaScOmBe @ 108:
And the pile of crap grows ever higher as thousands die. Good God...As Ronnie Cammarari so succinctly put it.
mudshark @ 4:
Not really, Rush is an entertainer, and Americans really don't give a f*** about credentials.
Plus, Americans are kind of lame these days, or haven't you noticed?
Johnny2Bad @ 96:
ok sister.......is making someone say the truth censorship...is calling someone out on their bullshit censorship....better yet...is distorting the truth tolerable...should we not bring this abomination to the forfront and call it what it is....LIES...and should we not hold those responsible for those lies.....well....what do you think...aye sister.
mudshark @ 115:
Im not sure I understand you're question- do you mean cite a post by someone of the left similar to what Limbaugh's venom? Well, there is Mike Malloy, formerally of Air america- who has been on the radio for yearsnow out of the southwest (I forget the station)- He's more or less a left wing Michael savage- He spews hate and venom at the right...He used to be fun until he got wrapped up in the 911/comspiracy crowd. The left has Howard Zinn, Gore Vidal and Noam Chomsky- i enjoy their books, but they spew venom, and each could be called a liberal nut.....
"There ought to be limits to freedom." -George W. Bush
arroyo @ 117:
yeah I noticed...but their down to 30% now....it takes some people longer to wake up.
sorry for the typos, my reading glasses are awol tonight..
Choam Nomsky @ 119:
point taken and acknowledged I don't listen to either side.
Choam Nomsky @ 114:
What does atheist have to do with anything? If you mean to say the Dems have been taken over by people who are sick and tired of religious-right fundamentalism, you would be correct. But that include Christians who are sick and tired of religious-right fundamentalism in the government.
And anarchists? If you mean Libertarians, then take your complaint to them. Dems are not anarchists. If they were, they would want government to stay away from universal healthcare.
Finally, 9/11 conspiracy theorists? Hilarious. I could find members of the Repugs who think the Clintons murdered Vince Foster, a minority opinion, and yet probably more prominent among Repugs than 9/11 conspiracy theories among Dems.
Choam I think that we can agree on one thing......that..Limbaugh is an ass...regardless of party...no one should be able to outright Lie to the country for a political agenda....truth comes first and foremost.
Bear in mind the reason right wing has dominated radio so long is that they play to the basest of emotions- hatred..
Its easy to gain a large following if you point out one group for everyone to hate. The right wingers hate liberals, they hate gays, they hate feminists, they hate Muslims, they hate scientists, they hate athiests, they hate socialists, and the topics on their shows are usually about one of these groups they hate....
The left tries to play the intellecual card, and USUALLY tries to avoid the bigoted venom on the right (Mike malloy being the exception- as he is as bigoted as righty Michael savage) ...
The American left will never have as large a following as the right, as compared to other western societies, your average American is not that bright...
Choam Nomsky @ 119:
I don't want to make this a tit for tat thing......but Limbaugh has been at for far longer than Air America....I guess you could say that the repugs have got it down pat
Choam Nomsky @ 125:
I disagree...we on the left actually have made it a habit of thinking for ourselves.........thats the difference...we question what is being rammed down our throats.and ask .....What?..or Why?
The fact that they are talking about him on the floor of the Senate at all is disappointing (as it was with the ludicrous MoveOn condemnation). Come on. We can't say it is a waste of time when it is against MoveOn but cheer when it is about Rush's idiot stammerings.
Otay @ 123:
I'll agree with you many on the left are sick of Christian fundamentalists that have taken over the government (and they should be sick of it- we have and need a clear seperation of churtch and state in this country)- But many liberals have taken to embracing athiesm and ridiculing anytone who has faith.i have seen this first hand. Some left wingers, such as Mike Malloy openly mock anyone who has faith...
I'm not particulary religious, but in the past, religion has been a great ally in social causes in this country, be it civil rights or human rights, or anti war. Martin Luther King was driven by his faith. Religions is a personal choice, and if it helps a person be a better person and help others, a constructive thing. But if used to justify hatred of others, it becomes destructive. I have met scores of people on the left who *ridicule* people of faith- even if the religious people happen to be liberals. Some say the radical right hijacked religion- that's part of the story- the left gave it to them on a silver platter. There are a growing number of liberal christians (like the universal unitarianists) trying to take faith back from the right- not sure if they will succeed...
I never implied all Dems are anarchsits, but there are many within the ranks- More are actually apt to be socialists..
There are a HUGE number of 911/conspiarcy theorists amongst the democrats- every single one of their theories is totally lacking any shred of evidence- The 911/Conspiracy crowd are to the left how the 'Bush is guided by the hand of Jesus' crowd are on the right- ridiculous..
I have little faith in either party- The Republicans have betrayed their own principles and our freedoms in the name of accruing more power, and the Democrats continue to allow themselves to be in a subservient position to the Republicans. Plus the dems are guilty of appeasement- if not part of the solution, they are certainly part of the problem..
Johnny2Bad @ 120:
Interesting quote from the shrub- especially given that he and his most ardent followers clearly have NO idea what the word 'freedom' really means...
Dirtypants @ 129:
He attacked the troops....what ever happened to Support the troops? He's a lying hypocrite......and should be condemned for it.
And dirtypants.......the MoveOn ad was fact.......Gen Petreaus was bought.
mudshark @ 127:
The right certainly dominates when it comes to spewing lies and hatred....Hatred of anything or anyone that is different is the cornerstone of their philosphy. I think they should be allowed to peddle their scorn so people can see them for what they are- hate merchants..
mudshark @ 131:
Remember, in his world, the greatest threat to freedom.....is freedom.
Choam Nomsky @ 130:
I want to know where you get this "many liberals have taken to embracing athiesm and ridiculing anytone who has faith". Statistics please. I am an atheist, but I have nothing but respect for many people on this site who are, or probably are, religious.
And if atheism helps a person be a better person, then it is a constructive thing.
As for your concern that the left should take faith back from the right, I hope the opposite - that instead of the left putting their version of Christianity in the government, that they work will other believers and atheists to put common values and principles in government.
Please no more of the "many" statements without statistics to back them up.
I agree with you completely on this point.
FUCK HARRY RIED,
STOP THE FUNDING, STOP THE WAR.
STOP PLAYING GAMES.
IMPEACH NOW.
2009 WILL BE MORE OF THE SAME...
Harry Reid and his warm fuzzy soft voice makes me sick. When will the Democrats put some damn teeth in those words?
Choam Nomsky @ 134:
you would be correct......but at what cost?..Should we allow someone of his ilk to continue spewing lies and distortions and let them get away with it.should we not call them out on their lies......or should we just let it pass.....so the sheeple will never know any better, and not know the difference.
Reid s growing a spine is very welcome. More Democrats should start condemning the harsh and unfair nasty attacks from the right wing wacko pundits. The perpetuate the lies and the misinformation. They are the real traitors of American society. Limbaugh is a big fat ass with no merits. He is a coward. When the sodiers get back, Him, Malkin and Coulter better watch their back.
slippytoad @ 29:
All due respect, piss off. Like I said, Limbaugh is the worst America has to offer. He makes me sick. However, there are alot of transcripts flying around these days. Would I put it past him to make a sickening typical remark like that? Nope. But it was all mixed in with the comment about that phony soldier- the one who actually was phony. He's good at talking about one thing and then changing course to another, fusing it all together. I aint no troll, you freaking pinhead.
annoy @ 100:
LIMBAUGH: "Save the -- keep the troops safe" or whatever. I -- it's not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.
CALLER 2: No, it's not, and what's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.
LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.
CALLER 2: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they're willing to sacrifice for their country.
LIMBAUGH: They joined to be in Iraq. They joined --
***
Hmm. Sounds like a phony caller ("plant") to "correct" the conversation. Used in showbiz all the time. Anyway....
The fact that he started saying one thing but ended up with another is no excuse. It is still offensive.
He IS representative. On AFR he represents our country. He represents America, or supposedly half of it. He represents his network, and his sponsors, and by proxy all the customers of those companies. Within the confines of the FCC regulations, he should say what he wants. But not on AFR. Not at a time of war. Not belittling the deaths of those who so recently just tried to shed a little daylight on what tactics might or might not work in Iraq in the Times the other day with the rest of America. Before putting down the pen, going back to their jobs in combat, and dying because simply because their country asked them to. His timing with that filth is hardly coincidental.
I don't give a damn if he apologizes or not, just like no one cares if a wife-beater apologizes or not. If he keeps beating his wife, he is wrong. Rush has shown us he has no intention of stopping his assault on the dignity of our soldiers. He shouldn't be on government sponsored radio, period. He can do whatever the hell he wants on cable or satellite.
"He bullishly stood for the military forces consistently so there is no fear from the military that he will betray the soldiers..."
Well, there is definitely bull in your statement, I'll grant you that. Any accurate poll shows that most soldiers would rather simply hear music than some rich white jackass in an air-conditioned studio bitch about how hard his life of privilege is because he can't take is magic pills anymore. Like this one.
Carmikl @ 109:
it was indeed inoperable
it moved all the way up from his butt to his neck
look at that big fucking head
Andy K...your in my thoughts bud.....it's been real folks...have a nice night.
mudshark @ 144:
Is Andy K alright?
So, Reid is trying to make up for the GOP pulling his strings and getting the condemning vote on MoveOn? Fuck him. I can't believe I volunteered my time to campaign for this dickless piece of garbage. I'm done with Reid and his colleagues who can't withold funding on this illegal war bacuase they are too afraid of a president with a 33% approval rating. The troops actually support getting out and this mental midget keeps saying he supports the troops while he allows the neocons to continue sacrificing them? Harry Reid is a a pussy. End of story.
Harry Reid's right, but he's a douche bag. He tells you he's outraged, but he delivers his speech with all the passion of Mr. Rogers singing a song while changing his slippers.
Won't some Democrat emerge from the primordial ooze and grow a Goddamn spine?
I wonder how stupid harry thinks the american public at large is? Rush is a huge supporter of the troops, I'd be pissed at harry more than anyone for playing me the fool. Maybe he thinks we all live under rocks and he can spoon feed us propoganda.
Otay @ 145:
yeah he's fine.....i was just thinking about him.....he's been lurking alot lately..........I think he would of liked this one.
Whoa @ 148:
If you call his remarks support...well........nevermind.
