Sunday Talking Head Thread

(Photo via NorthPoleMama.)

The Sunday Talking Head line-up is ready for the reading this morning.   Congratulations (condolences?) to ABC’s This Week for winning the most craptastic guest line-up award this week.  Blergh.  But Sen. Dodd on MtP and Mohamed ElBaradei on Late Edition both promise to be quite interesting, indeed, given the news of the past week and what is likely to be in the news next week.  Rule of law and Iran, anyone?

So, what’s catching your eye on the blogs or in the news this morning?

Oh man, waffles!

this caught my eye.

first the picture. i think the photographer took this picture with the intent of presenting them as cartoonishly as possible. so alien, so anonymous. compare this to a picture of American soldiers or police recruits...

then. the Shi'ite concern with incorporating Sunni into the armed forces. i know the whole building iraq thing is a sham. i know the country's gone. but at least show some tokenism and pretend to be interested in a true move forward. i understand that the Shi'ite have their own concerns about Sunnis and the ties some of them may have with terror groups, but it's not like the Shi'ite has always been playing clean either; they too have been involved in atrocious acts of terror.

anyway, just thought i'd share the link. im sure it won't be the most depressing thing on the news.

p.s. not sure why every thing i typed is hyperlinked?

The best hope for Africa is...Muammar Ghaddafi????

Well, steaming along with this mornings coffee, is me and many others who are wondering why This Story about Rumsfeld being sought by 6 countries as a War Criminal, is Buried deep in the back pages of the Times and non-existent in many other of the MSM.

Man, do I feel old! It's been 30 years since a "tent city" was erected by protesters angry that a new gym complex would be built on the site of the May 4th, 1970 Murders of the Innocent at Kent State University.

I was 13 when the murders took place. Believe me, as a child of that era, Republican authoritarianism has a way of putting fear and loathing in your heart for the rest of your life.

Wait a second. Does the pictured meal lead to the svelt platform diver's body of the swimmer below? Ugh.

That breakfast looks pretty tasty. Well, except for the human feet. It's just tacky to eat human feet so early in the morning.

Too bad the picture wasn't 'defeated'. ;)

Or maybe 'defeeted'? ;)

Miserable lineup on miserable shows. I can't even stomach any of these bobbleheads anymore.

McCain was more of a miserable war-monger than ever on This Week. More of American bullying the world; in addition to blowing up Iran, now he wants to get into it with Putin.

To quote from the scintillating Safire appearance on MTP:

Ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ahhh...Israel...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah
ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ahhh...Uber...ah...ah...ah...ah..ah...ah...ah...ah...
ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ah...ahh...Alles.

Drifty has a post up that moved me to tears. We need a bigger sledgehammer is right.

Why does Bush keep getting such a bum rap on his lack of diplomatic skills?

He can fart as loudly as anyone, and his quick-witted friendliness lets him come up with cute ad-lib nicknames like 'Vlady PooPoo' on the spot.

And that's diplomacy, Texas-style

Late Edition: Trent Lott and Barbara Boxer are equally as ignorant of the intel behind Israel's bombing of Syrian sites -- but heartily united that any nation has a right to defend itself.

The emphatic statement comes after their agreement of alarm that Iran's proceeding on a similar path of self defence agains goonish war talk from the US and Israel. (They diverge on whether to handle this militarily or with softer muscle like sanctions and finger wagging.)

Separated at Birth: UN Nuke bloodhound Mohamed elBaradei and Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Cali)?

As brilliant and comprehensive a document as the Constitution is, it is sorely lacking for it's omission of a simple sentence:

'No elected or appointed officials of the government shall accept bribes or gratuities from persons with business before the government, nor shall they steal or divert government funds for their personal use or gain, upon pain of public stoning until death'.

i think after all thats been going on in our government that this snake thats wrapped itself around america and is squeezing the life out of what democracy we had has been going on far longer then since this bunch of thugs took office, as a kid who was brain washed into believeing it was our country right or wrong i joined the military to lend a hand to our countrymen in the korean war, i was all of 17 when i got to korea , and i fought , but since then over the yrs ive looked back on that period of time and can now see the uselessness of that war, and vietnam to boot, at that time id never heard what our government did to us, now i have , to begin with john foster dellus secratary of state went on tv and radio and for some reason declared america would under no circumstances defend any nation from agresshion outside of the phillippines , he said this knowing full well that the north koreans were poised to invade the south , and knowing america had a sighned pact to defend the southern half of korea, and that led kim ill sung to believe he had a green light to start a war, ike said beware of the military industerial complex , but his warning came to late , the corporations that controll war production allready had thier hold on america, we had to use up all that war material left over from ww2 before they could feed at the trough once again, in korea we fired more ammunition in three yrs then in the whole of ww2 ,imagine a country no bigger then florida useing up that much ammunition , thier were times towards the end of the war my gun had enemy targets but they rationed our ammunition and wound up buying projectiles from the chinese nationalists to keep us going, and vietnam was just another place to test weapons and make a profit for the war machine , as vietnam kept going on i knew we had no intention of winning there and the soldiers finally figured it out for thirselves, since then the corporations have just gotton more greedy where have all the soldiers gone long time passing , gone to graveyards everyone!

I happen to be holding that exact same orange-and-white Starbucks coffee cup in my hands. Weird. BTW, that little word on the inside of the cup?

"uplifting"

Why? I have no freakin' idea, unless Starbucks is cribbing from the "Successories" play book.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled political discourse...

nobody on earth gets as many sunday show bookings as Lindsey Graham

TLV - I too was 13 that year and my two brothers were attending Heidelberg College in Tiffen, OH.
Also, somewhere around that time one of Nixon's daughters was down the road from me at Smith College. But as John Dean states, even Nixon didn't go as far as the present occupiers of the White House.

My morning started with Tim Russert on MtP. I watched about five minutes of Russert interrogating Chris Dodd and I had to stop and make a quick blog post about it.

Glenn Greenwald.
GO. NOW.

A bizarre, unsolicited email from Gen. Petraeus' spokesman

Astounding.

It is what is not appearing that is important! How about some coverage of the protests that took place yesterday? You bloggers are certainly towing the line on keeping a lid on things.

mermosa!

clearing throat - whoever has that tray in front of them is obviously an elite democratic voter - who knows how to live! Yum!

Another reason why the United States is full of shit.
