Lieberman thinks 'the tide has turned,' again

It seems a memo went out to war supporters everywhere, issuing a collective call for the “stay the course” crowd to declare victory. Joe Lieberman is the latest to jump on the bandwagon that’s traveling in the wrong direction.

“I’m proud to say that the tide has turned in Iraq and we’re winning that war,” Lieberman said. “And if we don’t let down our troops, they’re going to bring home a victory that will protect us here at home from today’s threat — totalitarian terrorist Islamism that’s trying to take our liberty from us.”

What a very odd claim. We’re “winning” the war? Against whom? Also notice that that Lieberman subtly argues that most Americans and a majority of both chambers of Congress want to “let down our troops,” and that staying in the middle of Iraq’s civil war will “protect us here at home.” It’s as if Lieberman were randomly hitting all the right-wing talking points at once.

Of course, Lieberman might have a shred of credibility if he hadn’t been wrong about every possible aspect of this war for the last five years, including repeated claims about various tides having turned. TP runs through some of the greatest hits, but this gem from two years ago stands out: “The last two weeks…may be seen as a turning point.” That was in December 2005.

After a while, the boy who cries “mission accomplished” a few too many times, without any connection to reality, deserves to be ignored.

wow,, he is painful

the man is staring into his washing machine trying to predict the outcome of a war

I'd kill for Stewart's Lieberman impression right about now.

So ignore him. He is eminently ignorable.

There is nothing good that you can say about this man.

how did this elmer fudd ever get elected to office. he's spineless and worse, he's a traitor. when bush goes down i want him standing beside him getting the same.

I think Joe is due for a little unescorted shopping trip to a Baghdad market to demonstrate how we're winning.

To quote: "...totalitarian terrorist Islamism that’s trying to take our liberty from us"

Can this asshat really be this stupid?! Just as stupid as he looks??

He is a pimple on the boil that is the bush admin.....

Now let's be fair to Holy Joe: He Does SUPPORT TROOP WITHDRAWAL BY ‘08 … 2108!

Lieberman's always ready to put out for the Sean Hannity's of the world

Yea...right....Fuck off Lieberman... You're another asshole I'm sick of hearing about or from....Tides turnin, surge is workin,..don't let down the troops....Blah blah blah ad nuseum.. Tell it to the dead and maimed fuckstick....The only ones winning anything in this catastrophuck are the undertakers. Fuck you Joe Lieberman, fuck you and the horse you rode in on..................JD

Hey Joe... I think the state dept. is still looking for a few good diplomats to fill our new monument to imperialism embassy in Baghdad.

goddamnit, i'm sick of these hacks saying "we're winning" and then going blank on the subject of when we can bring our troops home!

bastard!

Man what a loser...I guess he hasn't realized yet that he's lost all credibility with most Americans.

We MUST be winning because more troops have died in 2007 than any other year of the war!

More = Better
Most = BEST!

Right?

I truly hate that scumbucket.

Actually, he didn't say we are winning "the" war, he said we are winning "that" war in reference to Iraq. By inference, even if we are winning "that" war (highly suspect, I know), we are not winning the war in Afghanistan.

The best part, of course, is that by winning the Iraq war we will become safe from "totalitarian terrorist Islamism that’s trying to take our liberty from us." Who needs electricity and clean drinking water when the goal of stealing our liberty is within their reach? Beside, why bother, Bush is close to Mission Accomplished.

So we can't discuss troop withdrawal or anything else because, according to Chimpy, such talk would "embolden our enemies." Yet a traitorous senator from Connecticut can talk about the tide of the war turning? Wouldn't rubbing that in eveyone's faces embolden our enemies?

Please please just let me hear w try to say totalitarian terrorist Islamism just once. If I don't find a way to laugh at this my head is going to explode...

The "tide has turned" so many times that a whirlpool has now formed.

Dear Connecticut,

Are you ashamed yet?

Sincerely,
America

That's not a whirlpool; it's a black hole.

The bad part about it is that the right calls him a Dem, when he's actually an Independent which really sucks because Loserman is far from being a Dem.

Go live in Fallujah, you despicable piece of neo-nazi fuck.

Has anyone here ever read reporters whose reporting on this subject is contrary to their own? My guess is not.

"If we don't let down our troops" may be the most shameful quote by any politician during the last year. I seriously can't think of anything more obnoxious, cluelss, damaging, shameful and anti-American than that sort of trite coded head-in-sand asshattery.

Amen brother!

Gosh, I haven't worried about TTI ("totalitarian terrorist Islamism") even once today! I must be more on guard! Oh, and how wonderful that our murderous debacle in Iraq has kept the dreaded TTI from our golden shores! Whew!

Go away, jowly Joe, you stupid, simpering Keebler Elf.

The surge is working and the troops will not be coming home, ever.

The surge is not working for the reasons Republicans would you have you believe. The real reason, other than political gain, for tagging the surge as a success is that it coincides with Iraq's evolution into a divided state devoid of a central government and broken into genocidal cleansed enclaves that have established home rule. These fiefdoms are now vying for US aid and private investment. Check out Anbar.

As the US establishs secure bases throughout Iraq the model to follow will be similar to the conquer of the American West. In twenty-five years all the Injuns will be dead.

“I’m proud to say that the tide has turned in Iraq and we’re winning that war,” Lieberman said.

Tell them what they won, Holy Joe!

Really. What's the point of crowing about stopping "totalitarian terrorist Islamism" from taking our liberty from us, when it has already been taken by our own government.

Coo-coo...coo-coo.

I guess Republicans and Lieberman don't think mush of the three soldiers killed yesterday.
Oh and for those counting the White House isn't giving the real numbers of those killed. This way Americans can believe what the liars are saying until the dead soldiers bodies come home. But Americans really don't have much interest in the soldiers we lose as it's better to just believe lying Lieberman and sit back and watch dancing with the stars. Now when the bill for all the money the GOP and White House have stole you can beat Americans will wake up. Republicans will just say Bill Clinton did it and of course Americans will believe that lie too. Now Bill has been out of office for almost 7 years yet when Bush/Cheney say it was Clinton who illegally invaded Iraq, put the US in debt, had thousands of soldiers killed/injured by giving fake information about Iraq and any other problems it was Bill Clinton. For the past 7 years Bush/Cheney have been out of the country and just got back to clean up the mess. Stupid is as stupid does.

Are you speaking of bona fide journalists? Or those low rent hacks pimps and prossies at FOX, CNN and other 24/7 'News' channels? Because I would be not able to care less about their sick sad bullshit fests and mutual masturbation parties on this subject.

I don't need to take a bite out of a shit sandwich to know it'll taste bad.

Dr. Matt @ 21:

Yes. Very ashamed. Matt in New Haven

How can real morons get to be elected representatives for a whole state of people? This is almost funny if it wasn't so sad.

Holy joe is an idiot in every sense of the word.

The tide IS turning....you can almost smell the pony!

The best way to "let our troops down" is to leave them in Iraq.

Joe, the tide turns twice a day.

Nice language and substance to your reply. Considering the source, I'm not surprised. NO, I was thinking more along the lines of Roggio, Yon, Tate, Burns ... ect.

The times of London, The Guardian, AP. Give it try. While you at it, clean up your vocabulary. It's unbecoming. Just a thought.

I second that emotion!

America II

Stalker Joe loves attention. And he's better than Ned Lamont how?? Thanks CT :-(

Yes, Joe. The enemy is Oceania. The enemy has always been Oceania.

Joseph Lieberman, you are a war criminal.

How do I despise thee, Joe. I cannot count the ways.

I think the turd has tined.

Really though, do you expect anything different from this moron? I think he makes a point to be on the wrong side of everything, it gives him panache.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. Go Joe!

I guess if things are going great we'll have plenty of resources to deal with the impending Iran threat.

Lieberturd 100% Bought.

This low grade imbecile fails to note that more U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq last year than any year of the occupation. Oh, excuse me, "liberation".

Joe is a sociopath, like Dubya.

Hey asshole Lieberman...news flash for you:

This year deadliest for U.S. troops in Iraq
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071106/us_nm/iraq_usa_soldiers_dc

He would make an absolute terrific running-mate for Hillary.

Yeah, this war's got real Joe-mentum!

The founders must be turning in their graves as this once great country goes down the shitter. What a shame.

Thank you Barrack - for traveling up to Connecticut and campaigning for Lieberman.

We're turnin' the corner, right Joe?

Thank God the "insurgency" is in its last throes...

...still...

Now, you just keep saying that, Joe, and one day you just might actually be right. I doubt it but you might.

What a fucking scumbag!

Is "Islamism" a word? I'm going with no and I checked my American Heritage dictionary.

"See, my thumb's clean. There's no truth to the rumor that I've been sticking it up my ass for years."

Lieberman has been saying "turning the corner" for 4 years running! It's getting old...we've turned the corner so many times, we're going in circles!

Is this guy for real? Oh my God!!! I can't believe there's Americans like this!!!

He is just another lying thru his Judas (jew) nature. Believe nothing that the low life scum bag says, shove a bagel up his lousy ass.

Unfortunately people with a brain in CT voted for Ned Lamont. He would have made a great US Senator for so many issues beyond this fools war.

Joe was elected by Republicans and quite a few misguided older Democrats that believe Joe's long experience in the Senate is preferable to an intelligent and common sense Senator like Ned Lamont would have been. Joe lied his ass off and he won. Good for Joe.

Unfortunately I think Joe's motives are far more nefarious than a his ego and re-election. Although his ego is huge (it's actually stored in Hartford, CT and winters in Miami), I think in Joe's misguided brain he is doing Israel a favor by using US Troops to kill people he would assume or could assume would be killing Jews. Since I am Jewish and I live in CT, I see mostly white people (actually in New England they are almost translucent) with a small minority mix of South Americans and African Americans. I haven't seen too many gun-wielding Arabs.

Perhaps Joe's family owns stock in Haliburton. For Joe, the Iraq war is a win-win situation. He'll still gets elected by a geriatric electorate that thinks he is "seasoned", he gets to kill Arabs (forgetting for a minute that they also happen to be human beings that just want to be left alone) and he gets to bray on about keeping us safe while essentially doing zero for Connecticut. I'd actually like to have him skip the tour of the Iraqi market.....

Hey Joe, how about a tour of Bridgeport or parts of Hartford on a cold night after 10 pm? Makes the Green Zone in Iraq look pretty damn good! He should concentrate on his state and stop jerking around with global politics. It doesn't suit him (I'm not sure what does). Perhaps some time in a lawn chair behind a trailer home somewhere in Florida?

Hopefully the people of CT won't get bought by $14 million in marketing dollars (all from "secret sources") again! Please Joe, just go. We didn't hate you before but that's changing.

Marc

anyone else dizzy from the spinning

"today’s threat - totalitarian terrorist Islamism that’s trying to take our liberty from us.” ????????

Did I miss something? Was it the "Totalitarian terrorist Islamists " that signed the Patriot Act into law?

Gore picked this idiot for VP.
He was as stupid eight years ago as he is today.

I pray they (you) look close at all selected for the '08 team.
Jesus.

BTW
Joe gave voters little call to vote for Ralph. (Bet he helped Ralph though).
But Joe was always a pisser.

why can't the tide take him out to sea? far out to sea.

I see another photo op for Joe in Iraq.

"totalitarian terrorist Islamism that’s trying to take our liberty from us" If that's not a wingnut talking then what is?

K. Thoits @ 63:

He is just another lying thru his Judas (jew) nature. Believe nothing that the low life scum bag says, shove a bagel up his lousy ass.

um, i believe Jesus was a Jew, too. what the hell does any of this have to do with Lieberman's ethnic background? Barney Frank is Jewish and i dont see him kissing Bush ass.

leave the racism at home. you show your ignorance when you take it out in public. i think we all agree here that racism is trailer park thinking. and that you are a moron.

woot! that comedy routine is getting to smell like a bag of three day old shrimp in the noonday sun. You know joe, to put it bluntly, you stink, and I am flat tired of people like you stinking up the world. You obviously have not a clue about any of the things you talk about, and hey, how's your supply of KY Jelly, running low are ya.

man is a traitor when did we start having a senator from Israel

We need to rid this country of all the Zionist scumbag traitors like Lieberman. And this guy has the personality of cold oatmeal.Oat Joey! Wake up America.

F**k Senator Palpatine!

joe is not a zionist

since the beginning of the war, the situation for israel has become more untenable

iran didnt have time to threaten israel as long as sadaam was still in the picture

and rising tensions between america and iran dont help either

add to that, that the palestinian see a rag tag bunch in iraq holding off the americans, and it doesnt bode well for any peace process

joe cares about joe

and notice, joe is the chairman of the senate oversite committee....how much oversite has it done??

if everything holds to form, and the dems win a larger portion of the senate...holy joe needs to be kicked to the curb

Joe's statement is correct, the tide has turned which tides tend to do every six hours or so depending on the moon.

My toilet also has two buttons one for a short flush and one for bigger flushing needs.

However, I have not seen a correlation between these buttons and the height of the tides outside my house.

Scott out!

Would somebody in the wretched state of Connecticut please jam that thumb of his up his ass? Thanks.

And while you're at it, kindly saw your sate off from the rest of the country. You know, like Bugs Bunny used to do. Then all we need to do is build a wall around TX to stop the retarded immigrants there from ruining our government.

Everytime this traitor mouths off, american soldiers die. It will be nice to airlift him and his family and drop them off in Sadr City for day. A holiday gift courtesy of the dead and maimed soldiers. STFU Losermann..

That's why I switched to Biz.

A BBC report last night stated that a U.S. general in Iraq (I forget his name) claims that Al-Qaeda is losing their foothold in the area.

I think what we're seeing here are preparations to remove most of the troops from Iraq for a possible attack on Iran. The White House could be planning on using ground troops as well as an air campaign with roughly 35,000 troops staying in Iraq with the other 90,000 (roughly) being reallocated to Iran.

The other possibility is that they want to remove the majority of the troops out of harms way, if you will, should Iran retaliate against U.S. troops in Iraq.

20 Dr. Matt Says: The “tide has turned” so many times that a whirlpool has now formed.

Is that the sucking sound I hear?

More or less troops really don't make a difference with suicide bombers who don't care if they die (although they can find more weapon caches). What bears watching is Muqtada al Sadr. He stopped his militia when it suits his political purposes, and will restart it for the same.

Additionally, Iraq has had a flood of 2 million refugees to surrounding countries who aren't very accomodating. I read today 40,000 have returned. However, the 1.6 million still out of the country provide less targets in bombings and shootings of civilians, even if they're counted at all.

Exerpted from: The Victory Disease is Spreading on Crinch Pin

The "bottom-up" victory scenario concocted by the Bush Administration and the Iraqi Prime minister is beginning to take hold in the Conservative blogosphere. Hew Hewitt today wondered if the "Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media" would actually start reporting the "reality" in Iraq even though it went counter to their anti-war rhetoric. Not only does this illustrate Greenwald's assertion that Republican lapdog bloggers like Hewitt shill for the administration and their revisionist history, but also that Republican leadership is looking for a way out, a way to save face, and a way to dump withdrawal and the imminent blood bath that will follow on the doorstep of a new Democratic White House and Congressional majority.

Like The Weekly Standard, Hewitt is a stenographer for the Bush Administration and bolsters the newest set of goals the administration has dreamed up as "victory" in Iraq. No longer are political progress, benchmarks, and national reconciliation goals of the surge. Now, as long as Iraqis are able to "drink tea with their brothers", success has been achieved. Contrary to what the The Standard and Hewitt suggest, I don't believe that Iraqis need to be hand-in-hand singing kumbaya for the mission to be a success. However, this lowering of the bar in the U.S. stated goals in Iraq is a blatant disregard for what Bush Co. deemed success even as early as two months ago in September while pumping the Holy Grail of Iraq progress reports ala The Petraeus Report.

To be continued...

***** Update Update: Lieberman is now toeing the line *****

C&L reports that Joe Lieberman is now toeing the victory line in Iraq.

Let me make one thing clear: Anti-war folks want victory in Iraq as much as any hawkish loyal Bushie. We are not "searching for negatives" as many would suggest. The fact is that we are forced to read between the lines because the administration is not straight with us about the reality. This is another one of those instances where the administration, it's media arms, and it's puppet regime in Iraq are declaring a "tide turning", when there is little real evidence to prove this fact. War boosters continue to jump the gun portraying Bagdhad as a "summer market in Indiana," an insurgency in it's "death throes", mission accomplished, tides turning, victory, etc. based on scant evidence and minimal trends. Yes, this has been a good month for U.S. and Iraqi soldiers and civilians, as the numbers of killed dropped dramatically in October. Despite a good month, 2007 is still on track to be the deadliest year in Iraq, Parliament is still gridlocked with the PM declaring no need to create a national political reconciliation, infrastructure is devastated in spite of the HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars we have poured into energy, roads, schools, sanitation, and health care, and warring factions become further fueled by outside forces the more tenuous the U.S. military's grip becomes.

So here we go: once Bush Co. the press, the blogosphere, and his shills in with "The Story", they fluff it, sugar it, smear the detractors, and prepare the public for the man himself to announce Victory, again. It would be great if Victory actually meant the same thing every time... that is "staying the course." However, we are expected to "stay" whatever the current definition of "course" happens to make the administration look best at that particular moment.

More to come... Dust of your barf bags.

Joe Lieberman is a Zionist Hoodlum. I look forward to seeing Lieberman, Schumer, Feinstein, brought to justice for war crimes against humanity along with the rest of the Zionist Regime in the U.S. Homeland, Republicans AND Democrats. They are not protecting and defending the U.S. Constitution. regards

Joe reminds me of Saddam's public information guy Saeed, who was nicknamed by the press as "Comical Ali" since he kept stating that the Americans are being defeated at the start of the war.

Maybe we should name Lieberman "Comical Joe"!

"Mission Accomplished" Herr Lieberman

For the useless anti-Semites: There's plenty about Lieberman to attack without stooping to slurs on his religion. Duhbya is a Methodist. Why don't you attack all Methodists?

Cheney, of course, is a Sith, and you had better beware the powuh of the dark side.

lovable liberal @ 88:

For the useless anti-Semites: There's plenty about Lieberman to attack without stooping to slurs on his religion. Duhbya is a Methodist. Why don't you attack all Methodists?

While I agree that Lieberman should be criticized for his actions and not lumped up with others because of his religion, I think we can't ignore the following two facts:

1. Lieberman pretends to be concerned with the well being of the Americans and this country, yet time and time again he has put Israel first. That makes him a hypocrite and makes his loyalty to this country, its people and the constitution questionable.

2. Jews in the United States, who support Israel vehemently, regardless of its various violations of international law and human rights, give Judaism and other Jews, in general, a bad name. Now, you might make the same analogy in regards to the U.S., but keep in mind that Israel defines itself as a Jewish state.

The bottom line is, I think people need to make the distinction between the Pro-Israeli camp and Judaism itself.
