I was watching MSNBC this morning and during a segment on the Black Friday shopping frenzy and the throngs of people waiting in line to get into a New Jersey mall, when something caught my eye. I rewound the video and sure enough, the first two people through the door were wearing protest shirts -- "Impeach Bush" and "Out Of Iraq".

I don't know who these brave souls are, but I thought I'd thank them for waiting in line to get the chance to make their statement and give them props for getting the holidays off to a great start and trying to spread some good will. We can only hope security didn't tackle, tase or beat them...

*Update: They made it on CNN later in the morning!

I find it interesting that our country's current state of affairs is such that general public demand for something as strong as impeachment is so great, that you see so many people promoting the idea so often in so many different places. Yet if you step into the eye of the storm, Washington D.C., the idea of impeachment appears to seem...baffling to its denizens, as if it is something coming out of far left field. I've always been taught that we are a representative democracy, yet from what I can see the representation pipeline seems to be clogged.

I actually don't think Americans are that weak, just soft and lazy. I'm thinking more some ugly messiness with authority (especially as more and more Iraq and Afghanistan vets get screwed over), the people rise up and strip the thieves of their ill-gotten gains, prosecute them, lock them up, before returning to regularly scheduled programming. There will probably be tragic killing of innocents on each side -- there always is. But so it goes I guess.

It wouldn't kill us to have to skip a few meals, tighten the belt, and get lean and mean again (on average). What's the big deal about that? It would almost be a good thing, really, except for those already on the very bottom and on the streets. But afterwards, I'm thinking the middle managers that were ditto-heads might suddenly learn a little more compassion for their less fortunate fellows. Walking a decade in their shoes and all that. There was a lot of suffering and death in the depression in the 30s, but it did produce one hell of a generation, with a lot of 'character' as they say.

But invaded by those commie ruskies? Isn't that a little... 1980? To give you an idea, one of Putin's big political deals over there right now is to build a PAVED road to the eastern half of the country. By 2018. It would be the first. And everyone is saying that even that is far too ambitious. Russia is recovering fairly well, despite the oligarchs, and Putin's authoritarianism (it's why the people still like him) but they aren't interested in invading us... cornering the world market on oil and gas, sure. But what the hell would they want to possess Philadelphia for? or Detroit? Makes no sense.

Why are WE hanging onto Detroit for that matter? I kid... sort of...

America still grows TOO MUCH food. We have for decades. Its what put some of my family out of the business in the 1970s. We used to dump it on the russians, but stopped for political reasons (this turned out to be great for Russian farmers, who finally had a job and had to learn farming all over, yet again). We have crapped all over Mexico's corn market for years, creating a LOT of the problems with illegal immigrant farm labor today. And just generally screwing their economy. We see that the corn growers are desperate to do ANYTHING (enthanol boom and now bust) to increase prices. We over produce. By a lot. The Chinese can and will soon too. Much like the human body, food is not the issue. Overpopulation is the issue, and the first shortage will be fresh water. (Incidentally one of MANY reasons why nuclear power is coming back like it or not -- desalinization co-generation power plants producing clean water, hydrogen, and power synergistically. Might as well spend for the research now and do it right tomorrow, dammit. It's just going to happen period.)

And if global warming continues

[I don't believe it will -- at least not quite like that. Worst case it will warm a little more, then suddenly -- over the span of 10-50 years -- the major ocean currents will change course because of all the freshwater melt and the next overdue ice age will hit (thermohaline circulation). That will make things interesting... you can't really fight a glacier and constant blizzard with an assault rifle. It won't go so far as to be a "snowball earth" scenario (we humans are good at making soot to darken the snow from coal dust), but it should teach us some lessons. Of course, it is either 2,000 years overdue, or not due for another 18,000 years depending on who you talk to. Study the first chart here. Then again we're also overdue for the Earth to lose it's magnetic field for about a decade during a reversal, which isn't nearly as bad, but will be extremely inconvenient for those years. Not to mention the "normal" stuff nature throws at us like cataclysmic asteroids, earthquakes, volcanism, and wacky solar and extra-solar radiation events. Point being, Russkies invading Nebraska is waaay down on the list.]

then desertification and overuse of chemical fertilizers will severely reduce America's capacity anyway. Why would the Chinese come here, when there are all those big fat tracts of virgin Russian forest land just waiting to be clearcut and farmed? Right on their doorstep. Far more convenient.

As for the males... Well, you know how nature takes care of it... war and homesexuality. Dispersing in to other populations will also happen to some extent of course. I'm sure a batch will be sent to North Africa to fight for oil at some point (it worked for the Portuguese when they had this problem). But let's not forget there is a REASON why the now have an imbalance -- they just had WAY too damn many people making WAY too damn many babies! Selecting for males over females is actually a great way to fix that. Selecting for females in equal numbers would actually hurt China's future, as the population would grow even faster than it did. And let's not forget that this imbalance has been there since 1980 at least... so we are already in the middle of it. Notice any Chinese Army divisions in South Dakota? And commie tanks plowing through the Iowa cornfields? Or do you just see a crapload of cheap goods produced by depressed and randy Chinese bachelors in work/dorm/college companies? When you think about it China has actually been pretty quiet. The China of 10 years ago would be busy pointing and yelling about our embarrassments in Iraq... this China seems positively laid-back by comparison. I think that's a good sign, personally.

So not only are the commies not invading (they are happy just screwing with our economy instead), but we are winning by losing! Think about it, we are damaging America's economy but raising the living standards in all the countries that need to reduce their populations! Mexico, India, China, Brazil, Pakistan (I know nothing about Indonesia). Fantastic, as nothing reduces the birth rate like being a yuppie... or is that DINK now? And to tie this all back in, when the Chinese finally have their own rampant consumerism and "Black Fridays" we will finally have exported our culture around the world, and there will finally be a "level playing field" with no disadvantages for them (and no advantages for us).

Hey, that's what we always said we wanted, right?

Frankly it couldn't have happened to a more deserving bunch.

And BTW, stop bitching about NAFTA et al, no one here was complaining when global trade was used a few decades ago to rob the world blind and transfer wealth to this country. Basically we went through all that trouble so that we could raise one of the most incompetent, self absorbed, infinitely entitled, decadent set of assholes. A lot of that wealth being "stolen" away by those furrigners, was actually stolen from them to begin with. So in my book they are just getting back what was theirs...

Go to an applied science or engineering department in this country and weep. Only Americans would think that them foreigners would work like slaves for a shit pay studying hard subjects and would be OK with Americans taking the easy way out while they get their MBA. It is akin to expecting your nerdy friend to read the math book and let you know all you need to know for the test, while you go off on a hot date. Guess what if the grades are curved, probably he will not tell you much as he depends on you fucking up to get his grade even higher on the curve.

The funniest thing is that now I see a lot of US engineering directors complaining that them Chinese are copying their very own production lines. It takes a special kind of stupid to think it is a good idea to move all your production overseas, and expect the natives to not copy your methods and accept the shitty pay so you can make an even larger profit.

Anyhow, at this point it is not Russia/China who I am concerned about. A lot of Americans know as much about world economy as they do about world history: not that much. The EU surpassed us a while back in both economic throughput and market size. They are shitting bricks because the Dollar is sinking and the last thing they need is a strong Euro. Which means that they have to deal with inflation and the difficulty of exporting their stuff. Same goes for the Chinese who have to eat our debt just so we can stay afloat to buy their shit. Once both the EU/China get tired of having to deal with getting the short end of our irreverent economic policies, we will be in trouble. The XXI century will see an interesting shift in the economic balance, probably centered around some sort of Sino-European-Indian axis with Russia and Japan as other plane players. The US will be left to rot, hopefully the smart states leave soon and join Canada. The new Jesuschristan republics will then have the valhala they so desire: a fundamentalist Christian paradise where the women are not uppity, the minorities know their place, and them Mint Julieps are soooo refreshing while watching the sunset from the plantation porch.

This is pathetic. Back in the Depression and the Vietnam era, people really protested. They filled the streets. They got arrested. They laid themselves down in front of the gates of military bases. They got their heads cracked at the Democratic Convention in '68.

Well hell a few decades ago - let's see, subtract three decades from my life and I was what: 6 years old. So no, I wasn't complaining about global trade back then but you best be damned sure I'm against NAFTA now.

And there wasn't an internet the way there is now for people to at least discuss their ideas across the country. Had as many people been connected to the Internet in 2001 as there are now, I don't think George Bush would have been able to get the Iraq war off the ground.

Think about it. Just six short years ago, people regarded any news coming from the Internet with derision, scorn and disbelief. If it was posted on the Internet it couldn't be true. But now, people who KNOW that Bush and that he is fully backed by the mainstream media, those folks get their in depth news from the Internet. It's only people being connected now that's slowing their invasion of Iran.

I think we can forget about an Iran invasion now. After that little "slip up" at the OPEC meeting, I'm pretty sure, we'll be hearing the drumbeat for Iran less and less.

Bush still needs to be impeached though. Cheney first.

I hope that was sarcasm CaveSquid. It would otherwise be the saddest, most blatant display of stereotyping and deuch-baggery I've ever seen posted here. Some one protests and automatically they are an ungrateful bunch of yuppie children living in their parents basements smoking pot all day? It's funny how you conservative "values" types contradict yourselves all the time. "Ahh pot makes your a lazy couch potato!" "Uh, Oh! There's dissenters here! Look at how they went out of their way to make a political statement the only way an everyday person can on the MSM; that is by sneaking it in front of their live cameras, he must be one of those hippie stoner types who sits in the basement all day smoking bongs except when he suddenly here's that the MSM is in town and gets the idea that he could make a statement in front of those cameras!" The quote of your obvious logic is so long because the hurdles it jumps through to make these ludacris conclusions requires so very many words to describe. Now allow me to respond to your stereotype with my own of you: Go turn the TV back on or go back to your illogical, asshole conservative blog where statements like these actually hold water, and crack open another 6-pack, while this pothead goes back to work, so he can be free of having to read stupidity such as yours.

The difference between you and me is that when I'm using this mechanism in my brain that reacts to people with differing views by dismissing, grouping, and stereotyping them into an enemy I can label, I'm completely aware and do it anyways because it's usually only in response to assholes like you, but your perfectly oblivious to noticing this. While you have a cushy job probably not doing a whole lot that pays you enough to be fat, lazy, and complacent, just understand that there are people out there who will never make enough money to know when something is WRONG. Maybe it has something to do with experiementing with drugs, maybe it doesn't :)

I agree with the sentiment wholeheartedly, but I don't see anything especially brave or thought-provoking about the action itself.

"Speaking the Truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act." -- George Orwell

My only criticism is that the font should have been bolder. Heckuva job guys! (back when that sentiment REALLY meant something)

My only criticism is, why go to all the effort and then right when you've got everyone's attention, have your hair covering up your message? Put your hair back already!!!sheesh!

It's long past time for Impeachment! It's up to us, The People, to bring down this Administration.

It's people like those two wearing the shirts... who speak for the majority of this country! Impeach and get out of Iraq!

Our voices will bring them down! :)

They're lucky they were not in the halls of congress where they would have been arrested, legs broken, tased or worse. No? SEE for yerself:

There's not a day that goes by that someone someone somewhere gets tased (apparently many deaths from "tasing" has been reported). Here a man gets tased because he wouldn't sign his traffic ticket. His pregnant wife and little girl are horrified:

Are you serious? I find it highly creative.

It was a couple of t-shirts with marker on it with banners neither the Democrats nor the Repukes are going to listen to.

Yeah, really creative. [/sarcasm]

They made it on national television, didn't they? If you wanted to say something and have it on CNN the next day, could you? That much was clever. Sure, it's just two people, it's just T-shirts, but why the hell do you grumpy farts want to piss on these two? Is no level of activism good enough? If everyone listened to comments like yours, nobody would be calling their senators, or writing letters, or posting blogs, or organizing committees, or whatever... cause they know people like you can only criticize, and you'll only point out how futile and contemptible their actions are. Nobody said they're rock stars, they just had a good idea about how to put a simple message on national television for free: put themselves in the forefront of a consumer frenzy. What "side" are you really on, that you can't simply say, "kudos!" and move on to the next story?

Way to go. Be the Media because Main $tream Media has forgotten its purpose-- to report the facts.

I suggest to everyone ways that we can all "BE the MEDIA" and spead the word since the M$M won't:
1) On any checks you send for Xmas (or to pay bills) write "IMPEACH BUSH" on the memo section.
2) I had a stamp created: "Impeach Bush NOW" that I use on the outside of all of my envelopes. Especially now, sending Xmas cards, it's a way to spread the word. The mailperson and the recipients of my cards are at least getting the message.
3) I'm not a bumper sticker person, but I created a "window sticker" that I attached to my rear passenger window that says "Impeach NOW ! We can't afford any more damage!" If I'm not sure about the climate of the people where I'm parking, I take the sign down, then put it back when I drive out.

I'm getting positive comments all the time. Imagine if we all did just a little bit......

I'm guessing they went to a store they knew typically gets mainstream media coverage every Black Friday for this reason only. Hence, why they also made sure they were first in line (footage on TV usually only shows the first 3 seconds of people rushing in). I doubt they came to buy slighted discounted crap in a sea of crazy people, and just decided to also wear impeachment shirts. So, props to them for this clever stunt.

Sadr's own words, if you believe them or not:

"The occupiers must go, and then the democratic process can start" in Iraq," said Sadr.

Sadr was speaking the day after Allawi told the militia to give up and leave Najaf on a surprise visit to the city.

He also rejected an earlier invitation by Allawi to run in elections scheduled for early next year.

And he dismissed any participation in politics until Iraq "is free and independent."

Sadr said those who wanted to go could do so, he was not forcing anyone to resist, adding, "Those who have forced us to fight are the occupiers of our country."

Sadr further called on the Iraqi police and army not to fight against their "brothers" and the Baghdad government to be "on the side of the people and not use the same weapons as Saddam Hussein', the former dictator ousted by invading US-led forces last year.

Asked about negotiations to end the fighting, Sadr demanded, "What negotiations can there be when the war and bombardments continue?"

"We cannot mix democracy and occupation," he said. "Let us finish with the occupation."

Sadr spokesman Hazim Al-A'areji launched a scathing attack on Allawi, accusing him of heading an agent government of the occupation and of inciting the people against Sadr, in an attempt to eradicate him from the Iraqi political theater.

"We will not lay down our arms until our country is free. This a war of liberation that was imposed on us by the occupiers."

Cave Squid,
How did you find the time to stop masturbating, (in front, and on your Bush Bobblehead Doll,) to post such childess inane-drivel?

There's always time for everything. You obviously found time away from your own mastubatory activities involving your mother's raunchy underwear to post that little gem. Really gives us an insight into your limited intellect. I love the way losers like you counter logical sarcasm with witless insults, and angry psycho-babble. It really makes posting worth it, to show the world what kind of witless ignorant loser you really are. Tell ya what though, If you find time in between raiding your mom's hamper and laying around blaming the government for being the lazy angst ridden piece of shit that you are, send me your address and I'll mail you a check so you can pay to learn some social skills, or at least buy yourself a personality.

Hahahahah! What a hypocrite! First you whine about me stereotyping, and preach a sermon on it to boot. Then in the same post you launch into a blatant display of stereotyping me! Automatically assuming me to be conservative. Maybe, had you used that 'mechanism' you call a brain, you'd have caught that little mental mishap on your part. BTW.. It's 'douchebaggery'.. There's a big difference between acting intelligent and being intelligent.. Learn that difference and maybe you will avoid the pitfalls in your own logic.

...Maybe it has something to do with experiementing with drugs, maybe it doesn't :)

And just on a side note, you subliminal admission to doing drugs, I find quite fascinating. I myself do not use drugs, nor do I consume enough alcohol to become intoxicated.. Unlike the loser which you are.. I am a REALIST.. I have no desire to ever disconnect myself from reality, thus see the world for what it is quite clearly.. And take great delight in tearing down worthless, naive, pathetic social-retards like you, and the idiots in the video. I can imagine your reasons for puffing away on a bong and ingesting mind-altering toxins into your body... Obviously no different than any other junkie or alcoholic.. Desperation to do something, in order to escape the reality of your own worthless existence. A temporary remedy for a low self-esteem and the shame you feel over how pathetic you really are.

I'm willing to wager the two losers in the video smoked more than their share of weed before they pulled off their little prank.. A clear mind couldn't have gone through with it, had that person known how stupid they looked and how many people laughed at them for about 10 seconds and then changed channels. And of course thats why everyone here anonymously pats them on the back.. because they surly wouldn't do such a stupid thing and want to endure the taunts and humiliation sure to follow. Hahahah!

Just wearing the t-shirts isn't going to change anything, no. But it's far from meaningless. It's letting everyone else know they're not alone in thinking that Bush is a criminal. If their actions get one more person being vocal and active in their efforts to get these criminals out of the White House then they've done something good.

SKD's picture

I wonder how long it will be until this mini-revival of social protest is packaged and commercialized just like the sixties 'revolution'. It's already nothing but another trendy thing to do, next comes the marketing for it. If they weren't being encouraged by peer pressure they wouldn't give a flying fuck about Bush or Iraq. Neither would...most...of you. ::rolls eyes::

I'm glad to see such strong support for impeachment of this war criminal on the blogosphere and increasingly in mainstream media such as CNN's Cafferty File. This is so needed at this time to heal the nation, those who understand this are the enlightened true patriots the world and this nation so sorely need. Anyone who doesn't support impeachment should really think deeply about the so many valid reasons why this should be taken seriously by Congress and join the truly righteous in this important event.

The only thing that will heal this nation is when all the Baby Boomers and 60s leftovers are all dead, and all fools they brain-washed have moved to Canada.
