I had dinner with a conservative / republican friend of mine tonight and we were talking about who would be the best candidate for the republicans right now and we both agreed on Huckabee. Romney is good-looking and could appeal to the heartland, but the Mormon thing is a big issue. It's too weird of a religion and people will not trust someone so clean - no drinking, no weed, no fun sex, no soda .... no anything. Huckabee on the other hand is down to earth and likable. He's also somewhat liberal on economic matters and I could possible see some weak push towards health care change - at least better than Hillary's corporate plan. If the republicans are smart they will pick Huckabee. And if we are dumb and pick Hillary he could win. He's a likable guy and she's a cold calculating person. All I can hope for is that the dems have a Obama / Edwards ticket and the republicans pick a senile guy like Thompson, a fascist like Rudy or the Mormon.

Former WH flack Scott McClellan has a new book coming out wherein he reveals that people in the Bush Administration had him fronting out lies to the public about the WH leak of Valerie Plame Wilson’s CIA ties. Color me shocked. From E&P:
..”The most powerful leader in the world had called upon me to speak on his behalf and help restore credibility he lost amid the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. So I stood at the White house briefing room podium in front of the glare of the klieg lights for the better part of two weeks and publicly exonerated two of the senior-most aides in the White House: Karl Rove and Scooter Libby.
“There was one problem. It was not true.
“I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice President, the President’s chief of staff, and the president himself.”
Do tell, Scott. How, exectly, were “Rove, Libby, the vice President, the President’s chief of staff, and the president himself” involved in your lying to the public? I’d like all the details, please. Including when you learned that these were lies and what you did to correct the public misperceptions, if anything, what sorts of discussions were had about this in the WH, and whether you questioned the information when it was first given to you — or just obligingly parroted as you were told unless and until you were confronted with the fact that you were telling lies. And I’m certain I’m not alone in that sentiment. For your sake, I do hope you were fully forthcoming about this with the FBI. I’m just saying.

Now, Lord knows I don’t want to question McClellan’s claim that his book was “written with no agenda other than to record his experiences and insights for the benefit of history.” But would it be presumptuous of me to suspect that his explanation of Plamegate is somehow going to make it out as nothing more than a silly mistake that the press blew all out of proportion?
Nothing like a little game of pass the buck between the smarm merchants of Bushworld, is there? Note the utter failure to take responsibility for lying to the public, the shunting of said responsibility onto others who have also failed to take responsibility for their respective actions, and the working of “the President’s chief of staff” into the mix of players. Anyone want to place a bet as to whether Andy Card gets set up as the go to fall guy? Emptywheel caught the same Card reference, and mentions the Wells’ card and notes that “just as a reminder, Card and Scottie left the White House within a week of each other–both happening just before Turdblossom’s final grand jury appearance.” (Anyone else’s spidey sense getting a little tingle? And while we’re asking questions, will Scottie own up to being one of the sources for the NYDailyNews story on Rove’s bush league handling of the whole mess? Enquiring minds and all.)
Perhaps, Scottie will spill all the assorted beans to get even for the Bush Administration treating his momma so shabbily in her TX gubernatorial bid. Not bloody likely…but stranger things have happened in gooberville.

Everyone in Washington knew Bush and Cheney wanted to go to war with Iraq as far back as 2000. Cheney had Joe Wilson go to Africa to dig into Niger selling Yellow Cake to Saddam. When Wilson couldn't find any proof, Cheney set the ball in motion to out Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame. It is well documented Cheney visited the CIA offices in late in 2002 looking for information on Plame. Cheney finally had "Scooter" Libby start leaking to the press the name of Valerie Plame. Then the Bush WH tried to blame it all on Richard Armitage and FOX NEWS went right along with the lie selling it to their braindead audience of trolls.
Now Scott McClellan has written a book that tells the truth. Bush, Cheney, Rove etc. etc. were ALL in on the outing of Valerie Plame and she was a CIA operative and now a desk jockey like FOX NEWS says.

The investigation of Karl Rove revolved around the same issues, among possible others.

Not hearing any good arguments not to challenge Pelosi, and make way for an impeachment investigation.
1. DNC and GOP openly defied Pelosi
Doesn't matter what the DNC leadership wants. A majority of the House -- for whatever reason -- defied Pelosi.
2. Senate Vote Irrelevant To House Investigation
Some have it in the head that the Senate's "likely" vote not to convict is an excuse to do nothing about an investigation, or removing all roadblocks to an investigation. This is absurd.
Without fact finding or a public review -- outside Congress -- of the facts which the House would present to the Senate, how can anyone argue that the right course of action is nothing? Good grief. The DNC was sent to challenge, not capitulate. This isn't about defying Pelosi, it's about removing Pelosi to make way for an investigation.
3. The GOP-DNC Caucus
The Kucinich resolution told us that there was a majority which supported an investigation. yet, without knowing any facts, and not starting the investigation, some would have us believe that nothing should be done. Huh? That's absurd. Let's find out (a) what is goign on; and (b) why the DNC-DLC, despite promising to change/challenge, isn't doing that.
Find facts, not excuses. Read this for more on the problem with the DNC.

Time to force the House to confront this issue: Make the GOP and DNC explain why they support an investigation, but do not support removing all obstacles to that investigation. Share this proclamation with your friends to remove a roadblock to the Cheney impeachment investigation.
The states listed as this site are well familiar with proclamations: This proclamation isn't about impeaching anyone; its about challenging in the House the roadblock to the impeachmenet investigation.
The goal is to get a discussion going about these proclamations, and make the House respond to We the People: Clear the way for an impeachment investigation; or explain why you will not open all the doors to that investigation. The art is way good but it's title ought to be changed to reflect "Neoconservatives". The Neocons put America into bankruptcy by enlisting Geo W Bush to implement their plans for US global domination. A plan which has failed. Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld, should have retired after their experiences in government. Instead, after Carter was elected, they chose employment at the American Enterprise Institute, where the Neocon cabal hatched the plan to put US boots on the ground in the Middleast. The Statesman reports that former GM CEO Roger Smith (of "Roger and Me" fame) and former Charlie's Angel Farrah Fawcett (no longer major) have both pleaded with a federal judge to go easy when sentencing convicted Texas oilman Oscar Wyatt. The 83-year-old CEO of Coastal Corp has already cut a deal with the feds over bribery charges (i.e. embargo running) relating to the United Nations' Oil for Food program. Three weeks into his trial, Wyatt agreed to spend 18 to 24 months prison and fork over $11m in ill-gotten gains. His supporters are worried that U.S. District Judge Denny Chin may set aside the deal and whack Wyatt with some more alone time (as is his right). GM's former CEO vouched for Wyatt's moral fiber. "I know of no way to better measure a man's character and traits than to hunt together," Smith wrote in a letter to Chin. "Oscar ranks as number one in the character traits that really count — integrity, responsibility, loyalty and dependability."
