Fuck! The brownshirts make their first appearance!

I would say holy shit, but I saw that expletives were deleted below.

jesus. the psychos are coming out for this campaign....

The Edwards campaign in Chapel Hill has had at least 3 evacuations--I think 2 for white powder sent in envelopes & 1 bomb scare.

The guy has a bomb. ****.

This ain't good at all...

Not really surprising, but still kind of sad. When Senator Clinton is sworn in next January, the USSS may have to triple her protection.

can't wait to see the wingnuts spin on this. . .

This will get Ghouliani's immoral and illegal activities off the front page

So assuming they take this guy alive, think he'll be charged as a terrorist?

i'm thinking they will accuse HRC of planting the terrorist to gain sympathy?

Let me guess: that she arranged it?

So much for "fighting them over there..."

funny you should say that, over at Malkins site (I googled the news and got her site) they are pretty civil. A hell of a lot better than we are being! I post here, am a liberal nutcase, and the "goons" at Malkin's site are making us look bad.

Of course this is early and they may get nutty after the "perp" is shown on TV, but so far "we" are the crazies.

Thanks.

Not good. Hope everyone gets out in one piece.

Of course they're playing it civil - that's straight from page of the right-wing smear machine playbook. Keep your mouth shut until AFTER the sheeit hits the fan - and THEN swiftboat 'em!

Just be patient - the RW cranks will emit their foul stench soon.

I just hope it ends without violence.

I am waiting to hear from Rush Limbaugh or CNN that the perpetrator is a Muslim extremist from the Obama campaign office.

I woke up at 4am and clicked on to HuffPo in a sleepy daze. The two top stories were 'Hostage Situation At Hillary Campaign Office' and 'O'Reilly To Debate Alf'. I decided I needed more sleep.

This is way over the top! Someone must have misread Rove's 'It's time to take care of Clinton' memo.

You could probably say this about any sane, reason-grounded, non-far rightwing president elect. The wingnut-o-shere, everyday further revealed to be the Republican Party, is ever escalating the hate rhetoric. And, like any addictive drug, it takes more and more to keep getting the same high.

The wingnut kook has a bombed strapped and two hostages.

Everyone's just assuming that it's a Republican sympathizer? That's pretty shallow.

It could be a disaffected employee, someone who favors a Dem opponent, an Al Qaeda terrorist, someone who didn't take their medication and is having a meltdown, or any number of possibilities.

The leap to blame the political opposition is dishonorable in a case like this.

Anyone who put $5 down on '18 minutes' - congratulations! ;)

I have money on a domestic dispute not wingnuts.

A few things:

1) This may take some time off Guiliani's troubles, like one poster had mentioned, but I trust that Keith Olbermann will NOT spend the next year and a half-discussing this the way the other news networks did with Natalee Halloway, Anna Nicole, etc, etc.

2) The right-wing Bush worshippers who are all too happy to give away our freedoms in the name of Bush's oil profits are the lowest common denominator among all Americans. Buncha Nazi-esque sympathizers who hate freedom.

3) I hope no one gets hurt. Period.

4) The GOP is officially pathetic.

Could be, but in most cases of your domestic terrorism, it tends to be the radical right. After all, liberalism tends to be more accepting, and therefore less violent that your average conservative. And lets not forget what happened to a certain Israeli Prime Minister who actually was on the verge of getting a peace treaty working, got shot down and murdered by israeli right wing fanatics.

So shocking that after 7 years of "Bush the Uniter" and his cell of propagandists that some people on this site are sarcastic and pissed off. You do skirt on an important point though: it is important to stay positive and creative. The neocons will be replaced in due course and whoever it is must have positive supporters.

True, it doesn't have to be a Republican sympathizer. However, starting with Rush and Newt and Coulter and the new conservative Republican revolution there's been a constant ramp up of eliminationist rhetoric from the right. And, the modern Republican Party readily embraces it - especially when it's directed against all things Clinton. It's not a far leap to jump to the conclusion that there's a connection, whether direct or indirect.

But you're right. Best to wait for the evidence.

Thank God for Sean Hannity and his followers!

I just heard the guy wants to talk to Sen. Clinton. She's in Wash. today and has canceled her speech she was supposed to give today at the Dems fall meeting. The police do not want her to talk to the guy because then other crazy people will do the same sort of thing to other candidates.

I hope the guy is just a crazy and his bomb isn't real. Mostly I hope those volunteers in her campaign office get out safe and sound.

I doubt it's anyone from Al queda or even a rethug. It sounds like your run of the mill crazy person. The fact that he showed up when Hillary wasn't there shows lack of intel, if that was indeed his goal.

I'm saying a prayer for the people in there with the loony tune. I've been held at gun point before so I can't imagine how I'd react to someone with a bomb strapped to them. Hopefully the police have enough sense not to shoot up the place

What the hell does this moron expect to accomplish blowing up 2 campaign workers? F'n idiot.

so does hillary talk to him?

Wouldn't a "run of the mill crazy" just have a gun?
This seems a little more, um, creative.

could just as well me a crazy leftie as a crazy rightie.

Why don't they just hook him up with a police woman on the phone and let the police woman tell him she is Hillary and listen to whatever he has to say? It might work. Of course if he should discover it isn't Hillary that might piss him off and make him do something awful.

Okay folks, for now let's just wait it out before we start accusing people of being behind this and guessing what the spin will be. At the moment, people's lives are in danger and that's a lot more important than throwing around conjecture. Once it's settled, we'll find out who this guy really is and we'll all get to see whatever spin there may be.

The blame for this falls squarely on the right-wing hate movement, which comprises everything from Rush Limbaugh to Fox and Friends. You can be damn sure that if this same thing happened in reverse, the debate would be, "is MoveOn.org a terrorist organization?".

I hope this ends soon and nobody gets hurt.

Remember Dan Ackroyd (as Jimmy Carter) talking down a citizen who had dropped some bad acid ?

Hillary needs to call an aide's cell phone and hand it to the guy.

I just thought...if it was an Islamic terrorist...this might well already have ended in tragedy...and it could very well be a crazy lefty too...doubtful...but possible...
Again, I hope it ends with ZERO deaths.

mo_dems @ 79:

could just as well me a crazy leftie as a crazy rightie.

Did you used to be a hall monitor?

the repugs are so desparate that you can expect to see more of this fucking stupidity.
let's hope once bush is out of the stolen presidency, we can move back to sanity.

New Hampshire? Primary? Coincidence? I think Hilary is going to get her votes now.

Well we obviously don't know the details or the bombers grievance. So it's to too soon to make any final conclusions but I was reminded of Keith Olbermann saying this:
From the July 17 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: Tonight's winner: Coultergeist! Again! For the same thing. She went on another radio show to suggest staffers of The New York Times be executed. Hey Annie, you do realize that there are chowderheads out there even stupider than you are, and they don't get that you're a screaming fraud, and that they read or hear what you say and then they send envelopes full of white powder to The Times like they did last week, and that one day somebody at The Times, probably some guy in the mail room, is going to get hurt and it'll be on your conscience -- if you have one. Ann Coulter: today's "Worst Person in the World."
If this is politically motivated, then I have to question why someone would go to such lengths to make such a violent statement. Fear of this type of escalation is why I've repeatedly argued with Wonder Boy about his rhetoric of blaming liberals for hating and trying to destroy America. It's inciteful.

Of course though, to be fair to the right, he could also be some guy the Clinton's have defrauded... So who knows.

He wants to talk to Hillary, maybe he's doing this so we can all get a straight answer about who and what she really stands for, because I think she stands for corporations and the uber rich .1 percent.

Should probably wait and see. I think it is probably a toss up between a guy distraught over some domestic dispute and wanting to suicide by cop, lets hope it does not come to that all, and a loose wingnut. Does not matter the flavor, would interesting if he was a Paulite though.

Thrillhouse @ 85:

Exactly, don't jump to action before we know who to address our anger to. Find out the cause of his beef with Hillary/America.

If we go attacking people because of half thought out reasons, with no real answers who knows where we could end up 4-5 years later. /snark

call me a nitwit, but I have a real problem with Fox's broadcast... right now, Carl Cameron is live on the scene, filming and speaking of what appears to be a swat vehicle, broadcasting it's exact movements. Now I don't know what the other stations are doing, and I'm all for a free media, but logic would tell me that you don't talk about police tactics live on the air, while the person they're going after is possibly watching live coverage. Um, if I were in that office staring down the barrel of a gun, or thinking I'm otherwise in danger, I want the police to have the complete upper hand, not some reporter calling a play-by-play of exactly what the police are doing as it happens.

Doesn't that ruin the element of 'surprise'?

They are already speculating that it may be a supporter that wants to talk to her. Yeah right. Then they said people will judge her on if she talks to him. What they haven't said yet is if the FBI or whoever is handling this will let her talk to him. I am not a Hillary supporter, but to blame her for this nutjob is stupid. Um, if I were in that office staring down the barrel of a gun, or thinking I'm otherwise in danger, I want the police to have the complete upper hand, not some reporter calling a play-by-play of exactly what the police are doing as it happens.

Doesn't that ruin the element of 'surprise'?

I'm watching CNN broadcast channel 9 WMUR....they are giving vague info about SWAT movement. They even said they don't want to zoom in too closely as NOT to give away their movement.

MSNBC is showing a delayed picture and the hostage negotiator they had on said there was most likely a tv where the hostages are so he was careful what he said when he was on. The police have asked them not to show live pictures. Sounds like FOX is mucking up.

This is so bizarre that I don't know what to make of it.

Take a good look people, this is part of the price we pay for freedom and democracy.

Regardless of the real motives behind this act, it is an attack on each and every one of us here in the states.

There are people who are actively trying to divert democracy by any means necessary.
Hear me now and listen later.

So, is it time to put the freepers on the list of terrorist organizations or do we have to wait for them to detonate a dirty nuke?

Janet @ 126:

They are already speculating that it may be a supporter that wants to talk to her. Yeah right. Then they said people will judge her on if she talks to him. What they haven't said yet is if the FBI or whoever is handling this will let her talk to him. I am not a Hillary supporter, but to blame her for this nutjob is stupid. All the "anthrax" letters to KO and others were sent by wingnuts.

I saw on one news site that the police aren't going to allow her to talk to him as it would encourage other campaign bombers.

liberty's son @ 132:

I hope everything turns out ok. I wish they had the freedom to be fully armed to prevent such things.

Yep, just what is needed....every cowboy and cowgirl on the streets being allowed
to carry a loaded weaspon...Jeez

Apparently, maybe, there is speculation, that one of the hostages have been let go. Developing....

one hostage was let go. a young woman.

pissed off patricia @ 101:

This puts Hillary in a hell of a spot. Does she talk to the guy on the phone or does she stay out of it? No matter what she does she will be criticized for it.

Exactly. A no win situation...

Terrible @ 123:

Sorry to those commentors upset at people suggesting it's a right winger but the historical odds say it is. And historical odds say it's a rush or o'rielly fan. It might be "jumping to conclusions" but the odds are there.

Agreed. This could be anyone but the odds are there as you stated. I've heard some very extreme comments made by some on the far right and it would only take a little bit to push one of them over the edge.

Sadly, I don't find this shocking.

My guess is it's another junior producer from the bill o'really show.

Both hostages have been released.

did cliff van zandt just say this may not be a true hostage crisis, just someone looking for a forum to speak his mind??????????

UPDATE: Two people have been released

Hmm...where's Dennis or Jay, I wonder what they're up to?

"This just goes to show you, the Democrats can't protect you from terrorism." - Probable Rush Limbaugh quote.

Stalking men's bathrooms.

Bud @ 100:

Tim @ 93:

New Hampshire? Primary? Coincidence? I think Hilary is going to get her votes now.

So Hilary set this up?

Its all Clinton's fault???

If that was humor, it was pretty bad...

What else would be the purpose of taking over a campaign office? A campaign office. Is this going to influence policy? Probably not. Is this going to draw attention to her campaign? Yes. And i never said it was her fault. Probably somebody who wants to influence the election. Sorry, that's what I feel.

K. Signal Eingang @ 12:

So assuming they take this guy alive, think he'll be charged as a terrorist?

Only if he's brown, has an Arabic name, or is a member of the ACLU.

Let's hope they don't dipatch Geraldo so he can give the exact coordinates of the SWAT team members in the sand live on national television... again...

RawSory is reporting one of the 2 hostages has been released.

Oh, so he was identified as a white, male Republican.

It's actually a think piece Hannity is doing for an upcoming "Hannity's America" broadcast.

Two have been released.

Well, I have an alibi. :)

Although it sounds like the one that was released at the start to me.

white courtesy phone.

This is not the kind of publicity that any candidate wants. To say it was a setup is insane.

Yep... this kind of shit was destined to happen.

fox noise will blame Obama since name has "barack" and "huessin" in it... o the humanity...!!!

Just saw that here: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/14737866/detail.html

I think this qualifies as a "ticking timebomb" scenario.

When do we start waterboarding Republicans?
