I think she found the WMD's.
After a brief review of the Huckabee/Dumond tragedy, my initial impression is that we have a case of disaster facillitated by Evangelical blind faith.
I don't know the denomination, but it appears Huckabee accelerated the release of clean-cut, good old-boy Wayne Dumond because he married, from prison, a woman from a church who swore Dumond's innocence. Presumably, because Dumond "found he Lord".
It appears Huckabee's own "blind faith" may have been manipulated crafty Dumond.
Remember, Huckabee is a man who literally believes every word of the English King James version of the Bible, without even the slightest question over the Romans and assorted sinners who may have assisted in it's translation. Huckabee doesn't care about the Gospels of Thomas, Judas or Magdelene. He's put all his eggs in one basket, a Bible made of vinyl, found in the chest of drawers of a Motel 6.
I don't know about you, but the last thing I want from an American president in 2008 is more "blind faith". "Blind faith" is why we're in Iraq.
We're really starting to look like the retarded step-child of humanity to the rest of the world.
So, all I'm saying, my fellow C&Ler's, is don't be afraid to call these jacka$$es like Romney and Huckabee out on their falsehoods.
I'm saying this as a believing, practicing liberal Christian.
No one cares
for Bush's "solution" to the housing crisis. The CIA tries to erase its war crimes.
One more thing....
Something that's really frustrated me about the left in this country is that no one's realized that Bush's nickname for Gonzalez wasn't "Fredo", it was "Frito", as in Americanized tortilla chip.
C'mon y'all, heads up.
I can't help but remember Ronald Reagan's Campaign slogan in 1980:
Are you better off than you were four years ago?
PAUL IN LA!
Dropping in a little note to let you know that I did read your Comments concerning books.
Had to get some sleep that night. Am taking your suggestions to heart, and a heart felt THANKS!
I agree about Literature, Fiction and Non-fiction. It is a lifeline in troubling times.
I have read some of Twain's short stories. We have a volume, so I will revisit it soon.
Thanks again for the heads up on those books. I'm looking for Rumi, for my daughter, right now. She loves poetry, and this will be a nice present for her.
See ya

Bush is losing
military voters.
I'm voting for Obama. Kucinich is the gutsiest but I'm going with Obama because I think he's a natural leader.
Sure, I'm biased 'cause I'm Illinois...
It's not that I think Hillary's a bad person, it's just that I don't want any more continuatiuon of the Bush/Clinton dynasty.
And I can't vote for anyone who authorized war in Iraq. That's my "hot-button" issue.
I don't miss the Bill Clinton 90's, I miss the future. I miss dreaming the future unknown, free of fear over y2k, free of fire n' brimstone forewarnings of some inevitable apocalypse.
OBAMA/WEBB '08/.
Plus, I think Obama'd be a good face, worldwide, for America, in the wake of the disastrous and downright psychotic foreign policy of the neocons.
I do not want Obama to be President, he would make an excellent Secretary of State.
Kucinich is the only one who will get my vote.
xoites,
Don't say he's the only one to get your vote. He's ggot tpwin the nomination first. I will vote for whoever is nominated for the democratic party. Edwards is still my pick.

No, it's because of Unequal Justice, a Regnery rightwing tract on how Drummond was railroaded by Bill Clinton when he was governor.

Hafez and Kabir are also names to look for.
Kabir is also in the Sikh holy book, and his 'crazy wise' approach is also quite wonderful.
For these poets, divinity was not a 'God,' but a present experience of unaccountable bliss.
Not that I expect the anti-religionists around here to know anything of that.
Cheers.
xiotes,
I don't see where Edwards is for violence.

I heartily disagree. Those of us who know there is no God also know the joys of being human with other human beings. In fact when we are that human with each other a sense of spirituality that trancends us as individuals is impossible to ignore.

Xoites, you know as well as I do that many here are anti-religion -- not just atheist.
I am an atheist. But I regularly have to defend religion (in its actual breadth) from ignorant religion-haters here.

Yes you are. I made the name up a long time ago to have a unique name to enter a website for games. It is pronounced "Zoytes" but it turns out to be a region in Egypt. I had no idea at the time i came up with it.
Well, that letter is Chi in Greek, K - oit- es.
Here for all these years I've thought that coitus was defending the constitution, and I thought, well, why not?
If fucking can't save us, we are truly doomed.
LOL!
Ok, that is good to know. Now i have a seemingly meaningless name that is the name of a region in Egypt and could also be construed as the opposite of war. :)

"Something that’s really frustrated me about the left in this country is that no one’s realized that Bush’s nickname for Gonzalez wasn’t “Fredo”, it was “Frito”, as in Americanized tortilla chip."
Or as in the "Frito Bandito", perhaps?
Anybody see Chris Matthews today? I've been so frustrated with him over his reaction to questions republican candidates have faced about religion, like that question about literally interpreting the bible. Yes, the constitution outlaws a religious test for government office, but it's the candidates who are violating it, not those asking questions about it. If the candidates weren't using their "faith" to court votes then these issues wouldn't come up.
But today I was very happy with him. I've heard him ask tough questions of conservative republicans about why they feel threatened by gay marriage, but it was never clear (at least to me) exactly where he - Matthews - stood. Today he cleared that up, saying he supports gay marriage. He said something to the effect that "if we don't show respect for people who are different, how can we expect them to respect themselves".
So good for him!

Republicans blocked the vote on fixing the Alternative Minimum Tax again yesterday!!!! 25 MILLION American families are going to be hit with a tax bill for $2000 over what they should owe. And how do you find out if you are supposed to pay this tax? Only by filling in the paper work!!!! It is suggested that if you make over $75,000.00 a year, you fill out the form just to find out if you are going to be hit with the AMT. Or you can wait for an audit and owe the $2000 plus interest for being late.

"The legislation also would for the first time require all nonpublic utilities to use solar, wind or other renewable energy to produce 15 percent of their electricity. The House passes sweeping energy bill 235-181 (along party lines, big suprise) that would raise automobile fuel efficiency standards for the first time in 32 years - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/06/AR200712...
"We will send our energy dollars to the Middle West and not the Middle East," Pelosi said on the House floor.
"We've got a chance, and America is watching," said Senate Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.). "They know what the price of gasoline is, what the price of a barrel of oil has gone up to, and they know that global warming is a reality. They expect the Congress to move forward on energy."
The Senate vote is expected to be close. Reid has summoned the chamber's four Democratic presidential candidates from the campaign trail for a motion to defeat a threatened filibuster, but if the Senate cannot muster the 60 votes needed, portions of the bill could be removed. These sections include many of the tax measures and, perhaps, the renewable-energy requirement on utilities.

All the same, it depends on where you live. A pretty large proportion of Californians, for instance, can vote for Kucinich during the election itself as a protest vote (or a statement of personal values), and it won't matter.
Measure the opposite result.
Measure the opposite result, because morality is about OUTCOMES, not thought experiments in purity.
If being truthful to your Kucinich-urge (mazel tov) elects, say, a Tancredo and he kills a million (more) people -- that would not really rate as a moral choice in my book.

I know. SecState Bowen is solid gold.
The previous SecState would have approved it, by breaking the law, like when the SS sent Bilbray to Congress with a 'provisional certification' (which doesn't exist in California Election Code) so they could swear him in and stop the election protest in San Diego. A similar thing was done in Nevada.
Our previous SecState was forced out of office with threats. So a win in the face of the corrupt Governator and his big LIAR'S smile, is all to the good. By the way, did you see that he stupidly headlined a secret fundraiser, and thereby has been forced by law to expose his partners in larceny?

A Quick History Lesson For Mitt
Dennis @ 69:
And the bottom percent of the country's wages are stagnant and health care is becoming more and more expensive, while the top 1% of the nation's population is getting richer and richer. You know, we could always just drop the minimum wage to two dollars and corporations could hire more people and we could have a jobless rate of 0%. However, we would have a population of people who are impoverished.
How many of those 94,000 new jobs are part time service jobs? How many provide health insurance and pay a living wage? Those are the important aspects of a healthy economy.
navyswan @ 77:
Payrolls, unemployment numbers and the President are unconnected.
For one thing, if those 94,000 new jobs are to be trusted, a substantial portion of those new jobs may have been created by the artificial prosperity that Federal Reserve money creation causes. The sad thing is that if this is true, it is unsustainable.
Unemployment numbers, job creation, etc...these studies are conducted by government agencies and certain private companies that use seasonality, smoothing and other deceptive regression tactics that mask reality for political purposes.
Having said all this, I agree with you that free market capitalism is the road to prosperity, and that mixed or socialistic economies are the road to serfdom. I just don't trust what these people say through polling, statistics, and other lame forms of "science".
Marxism is alive and well in this country navyswan, because government spending has skyrocketed in the last 7 years. Marx believed that the only way to increase the standard of living of poor folks is to steal from the rich and give to the poor, and the way to do it is through government taxes and deficit spending.
The problem is that wealth cannot be expanded in this way, because money that goes to Washington bureaucrats is divied up politically and not "healthily". This is how all governments have worked since the dawn of time.
Sadly, many people don't want to believe that government intervention in the economy does not work in the long run, mostly because they believe statistics and government funded studies.
Danras, making a two trillion dollar dent in the economy is PLENTY for 'gov't intervention in the economy' to 'work.'
