I guess all the pressure C&L and many others including David Brock have brought on MSNBC got to Matthews and he opened his show today and apologized to his viewers if he went over the line when he said that the only reason Hillary is running for president is because Bill messed around.

He really has a wonderful heart after all. Or so he says. Has he suddenly forgot that he didn't back down when the ladies on The View called him on it?

Anyway, at least he apologized...Did Chris really have to bring John McCain into the discussion? Oh, I forget. The media is his base.

frist!

never forget frist. or the trasgressions of Tweety.

I just saw it. That was no apology. He went on and on how much he loves politics and blah, blah, blah. Then he spends another 20 odd minutes on Hillary! The man is obsessed. It's getting tiresome.

Oh, for Gawd sakes, Tweety is a total weather vane, depending
on the way the wind blows or if he gets a whiff of Fred Thompsons
manly cologne, he's all over the fricking map?

Now, he's back on the McCain train?

What a tool....

Tweety: "HEY!....who cleaned out my desk????"...."Where's my time card??????".

If only Hillary would start wearing Aqua Velva.......

tweety is heading for an emotional collapse if he keeps sucking up to everyone :)

Chrissy loves Ann Coulter. That's all I need to know about how his thought processes work.

That is worthless - it completely ignores all the other outrageous, mysogynistic, Limpbaugh-wannabe hate that he regularly spews.

Bullshit. He needs to be fired - not because he finally crossed the Imus line, but because he parades as a semi-journalist when he is nothing more than an egotistic hate-monger in love with the sound of his own voice.

Besides, his creepy man-crushes are so icky. He brags about his Jesuit schooling and it makes me wonder what they really taught him, "I love the smell of Aqua Velva, cigars and old men" Ewwwwwwwww.

Clinton is surprised more Republicans aren't 'afraid' of her

The good news, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton told USA TODAY's Susan Page this afternoon, is that only 62% of Republicans say they would be "afraid" if she won the White House.

"I'm surprised that the number is not higher," Clinton said Thursday when told that a Gallup Poll found six in 10 Republicans said her election would leave them "afraid."

Tweetie wants a Clinton/McCain race, he even said so on the air. Keep an eye out for his continued bias.

Tweetie saw a pussy cat!

full of shit!

Matthews had his fingers crossed under the table. Insincere chubby chasers on the march

he sure licked mcLame's balls out loud.

w o w ... so he is NOT impervious to criticism... good.
that is commendable...

Everyone on Leno seemed to love him on last nights show.

Leno handpicking his audiences these days and requiring loyalty oaths?

NOW i read the comments... seems i am vastly outnumbered...
it doesn't make me like him any better, but it did take some guts...

i'd like to think he was doing HIS part to elevate the process...
maybe?

Gekke @ 7:

I agree. He's a hollow "chat-show-entertainer." He kisses ass and sucks up to get them to come back on. He's sort of the the low-rent version of the Central Village elder, Timmeh. No real depth or convictions, just $$$$$$ drive him. I hate to say this, and I watch every night, but how much can we really believe even our favorites (e.g, Keith) are really people of conviction and would not, in a heartbeat, throw us over. I thought Scarborough was an asshole after watching in the past, then I thought, well he has independent thoughts and hates the war, is a true "conservative" after he start shitting on bush. He's now changed again, and is back to shilling for repukes, in between bragging on his vile self. Now in the morning I watch Imus. Scarface has adjusted his views and comments to suit his producers, and I consider him the same as when he started--an asshole.

What a liar. His original statement didn't say she became a senator because of her toughness and Bill's messing around. His original statement said that she became a senator because of Bill's messing around. There were no qualities of her own that contributed to her election in his first statement. What a liar and a bullshitter.

I personally like Chris Matthews and I thought that was a pretty good speech

The public loves a mea culpa. It's standard show biz material these days.

I was so disgusted with Miss Chrissy that I wrote a very nice letter to MSNBC a couple of days ago. I told them what a tool and what a fool he is and how making the other NBC pundits put up with his foolishness is bizarre. How Keith rolls his eyes everytime he has to appear with him and Tweety says his usual stupid bs. And I'm not sure you can be both bi-polar and narcissistic but if it's possible then he is both and needs to be retired or at the very least taken off-air and given some job behind the scenes. It does seem that we can't rid ourselves of these guys even when they go batshit crazy on air.

Get a dictionary Tweety, learn the full meaning of CONTRITION !!!!!

All business and ratings considerations aside, this TV personality is a Twinkie. He is one of the reasons I had my cable pulled and the TeeVees junked seven years ago.

i think it was john stewart last night that got to him........ even without the writers.... JS is an asskicker.

He may have apologized (sort of) to Hillary, he was there to justify what he said and to clear his name... Isn't this how Imus started when he was filling the pressure from MSNBC?

Anyway, at least he apologized…

Not exactly. He never the used the word "apologize" of "sorry." He crafted the speech in such a way that he can claim he never backed down.

Brought to you by...
News Corpse, The Internet's Chronicle Of Media Decay.

No sale, Chris, no matter how good the apology was. When he first heard the backlash, he repeated and augmented his comments. Nothing he says now matters. Get him off the air.

View numbers are down. I can't take bat shit crazy anymore. Thank you crooksandliers for freeing me from the cable.

I did the same thing, as did my wife and a co-worker. The power of the blogosphere is growing each day. IMHO, a year ago, Matthew's comments would have gone unchallenged by the MSM. Now, they get a backlash of email from citizens, either commending, or condemning what they are (or are not) doing. They have to take notice.

That sounded like "I'm sorry you didn't understand what I meant."

I might find it acceptable IF he hadn't gone on Joe the next day and totally defended what he said previously as being "a fact."

I sent a not so nice one (but nasty) to Dan Abrams praising him for calling out the media for it's unfair criticism of Hillary (and there's been plenty of fair criticism), but asking why he didn't have the balls to include CM in his piece. Not surprisingly, I didn't hear back from MSNBC...

Damage done. His comments were more offensive to women than Imus was of black women.

Matthews should be put out to pasture with Tucker Carlson and MSNBC would have an incredible line up.

They can keep Mornin Joe for the jocks.

As Tweety would say, "HA!"

At least we learned how to say Nevada , and he always says the rest of us are saying these words wrong , like Cheney, New York.etc. THIS on it own , drives me to drink. As if we care how he, or we, should say these words. He thinks he so damn cool. Pleeeeze

Too little, too late.

The man has woman issues. Get thee to a therapist.

I wept throughout. The poor man. And to think his only crime is that he's a despicable, odious, creepy, misogynistic moron with a mouth that never stops running and a brain stuck in neutral.

Although I normally try my best to avoid seeing or hearing this cretin, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and watched his apology. That was no apology. But at least now I know that Matthews is such a kind, generous, loving, big-hearted guy that interpreting his frothing drivel in a negative light is simply unfair to the Albert Schweitzer of punditry.

Now, I can go back to avoiding him like the pariah he should be.

Yet another Goon Billary has paid off somehow.

too little… too motherfucking late. he is without credibility anymore. he has abused Hillary at every opportunity. then.. to suggest that the only reason she got elected to the senate is simply because bill couldnt keep it in his pants… that is beyond the pale. chris matthews doesn't deserve to have a show. that was pure character assassination.

it was chris matthews and donna brazile who were keeping the goddamn race thing going because it suited their interests…… both of them and that malignant c*nt, maureen dowd (just for being herself) should be ashamed of themselves….

they all should have to apologize to Hillary IN PERSON on tv for millions to watch.

Can't see the QT version

i stopped watching his show.

Jimmy Swaggert......

When does he apologize for spinning the UNSECURED NH primary into something about women?

The NH SecState has admitted that he doesn't know where the memory cards are -- Diebold's rep handles all those little details for him. SO much more convenient.

Not only does Diebold get full access to the machines, including replacing chipsets during the election (gee, is that a problem?), they -- and not the constitutionally ordered SecState -- control the EVIDENCE, the memory cards which under federal law have to be SECURELY retained for 22 months.

When will the blogs catch up with this scandal? Cause it ain't only NH, and while you're slavering over the inside games of politics, you're ignoring the Crooks & Liars (catchy title!) that are walking off with the crystal while you dance with the Czar.

Media Matters is covering this too... He looks like he was told to Apologize.. He didn't, he just excused himself and told us he was a good person he was with lots of love in his heart... I quit watching him and only turned it on to see this... Now I'm turning him back off... The assholes know who they are...

*apology - 1. a statement expressing regret or asking pardon for a fault or offense (no, didn't see that in the video) 2. a formal justification or defense (closer to what I saw) 3. an inferior substitute (Ding, ding, ding - we have a winner)

I saw it on widescreen. I thought he was drooling more than usual for some reason. I think his tear ducts are in his mouth.
Nonetheless, he'll never make a direct apology. He hates the Clintons with a passion.

Remember IMUS when MSNBC was after him, he kept telling us "I'm a good person that has done a bad thing"... This is sorta what he was saying, I hope we see the same results.....

i do have to thank patrick j. buchanan for some fairly unbiased political analysis during the fray. during the racisim hooha and all of chris matthews obsessive attacks.... i never thought id say so many times "pat buchanan is right"...

Chris's slobbermouth sickens me!

OK, Chris, not bad.....as far as it went. So you kinda/sorta backed away (on orders from your bosses, no doubt) from the most egregious piece of your recent blather. Now, what about all of the dozens and dozens of other sexist/misogynist/downright-creepy things you've brayed out over the past few years?

To spare us all a lot of time, I'd be OK with a blanket apology, something starting out with "I am sorry for being such a monumental tangle of dickweed..."

Jeez everyone, at least we got an address to our concerted effort to make them see the problem! At least we got through! We should be proud of writing all those letters because now we know they got them and did as I asked, sat him down and had "a little chat". I think Media Matters, Kos and all the blogs should be proud, because now that it's out there, he may not get too many more chances to buck up and rise to any occasion. He's on watch now. Maybe he will think a second longer and then speak and maybe that one second will mean the difference between the High Road and the sewer.

Now if we could just do that to GE / NBC in regards to the ever noble and brave Dennis Kucinich!!!

We gotta take this country back, one creep at a time. Today I wrote to Keith and said that if they can't settle Chris Matthews down then it's very awkward to watch him go all postal on Bill O every single night. TWEETY is out here on the blogs winning every Worst Person Award there is right now, while Keith's obsession with Bill is seeming more and more redundant, like beating a dead old guy. What's the point when CHRIS MATTHEWS WON HILLARY NEW HAMPSHIRE? Bill doesn't have that much power! Let's focus here. He needs to get off that schtick when the real problem is drooling at the desk across from him.

It is all about him and his "good heart".

He didn't apologize for saying that she did not win her Senate seat on MERIT. He needs to apologize for that specifically.

He tried to pass it off as it sounded wrong rather than it was absolutely wrong. He is an experienced pundit and he knows it isn't a full apology.

I think it is time for MSNBC to hire some female hosts instead of the wall-to-wall boy's club. No women with their own show in this day and age? Pretty backward, how about some equal time.

does he suck the oxegen out the room or what?

Matthews does'nt love politics.....he is OBSESSED with it !!He's actually obsessed with everything !! Someone MUST call for an INTERVENTION , soon. Better still ,have his story portrayed on the TV Intervention show. Maybe then we will accept him, when he is healed.

I think the Women need to complain more .... this put all women down to suggest that they are better off if their husbands cheat on them... We need Rosie back on the View.... Do you think Al Sharpton would take this if he was talking about a black?

Self-serving yet I give him credit for the apology. On the plus sign he did net out the mistake. On the minus side he qualified it as part of the hardball style of bluntness (bogusness). Ill give him a pass on this one...

oh, boo G**damned hoo. half of what matthews said is right. hillary thinks she's owed the presidency because she put up with bill's bull$#!+ all those years. it's just an episode of "dynasty" for ms. rodham.

is this her plan for dealing with the rulers of the world? sniffle whenever vlad putin hurts her feelings?

i've already made up my mind... if america lets slick willie back in through the back door i'm working for either the republicans or an independent.

no more clintons, no more bushes. they're two-sides of the same rusty penny. and for god's sake, no more "dynasties" -i believe our ancestors shed their blood to prevent this very predicament.

and i'm sorry, hillary's hairdo makes her look like a nazi.

curls, darling, curls. they look so lovely on your daughter... don't you think?

Did he ever apologize for pinching her cheek? ("Chris, baby...") I thought Hillary handled that as well as anyone could and I'm glad to see this jerk have to make some kind of mea culpa.

i don't mind matthews -- i think this site is a bit harsh on him.

amato,

the problem with bill messing around is that it likely leads to hillary messing around.

and a cheating president is an easily blackmailed president.

like it or not, she's probably been under relentless surveillance during the bush years.

see where i'm going?

What a load of malarkey.
Its not all about what you said or how you said it stupid:its about your endless obsession with the women, and your endless hatred for the Clintons in general. Finally this "apology" isn't about any thing other than your ego and your realization that someone might not like you because of what you said.Too bad.

He sure must have gotten his ass handed to him in the morning meeting. But that was no apology. He's still full of crap. And he's still a creep.

MSNBC needs to get rid of him. Hey, then he'll have more free time to kiss up McCrazy.

There was no apology in that.

God he's such a fucking whiner. I can't stand his voice. He's as annoying as Bill O'Reilly. I just want to slap him. His good heart. Oh sweet Tweety. Yes Tweety, it's all about you and your heart and how much you care.

He "hurt people." WTF? Did he repeat himself enough?

Bitch slap. That's what he needs.

I always thought his program should be called "Hardball with Screwball".

What a dolt. It's an apology, of sorts, but man. He even manages to make an apology to Hillary Clinton a big, sloppy wet kiss to McCain.

Chris Matthews still hasn't gotten over his obsession with Bill Clinton's manhood. I've said for a number of years now that he needs to be whipped with a motorcycle chain.

A small SPEED-BUMP in Tweety's SUPERHIGHWAY of HILLARY BASHING.

He spoke several minutes here about ONE COMMENT... not even made on his show! How about all the hundreds of snide comments, rude observations, and slanted insults when talking about Senator Clinton on Hardball?

Chris Matthews is not an even-handed journalist. He has shown an obvious anti-Hillary bias since this campaign began. He should not be reporting on her appearances OR her speeches OR her personality OR her positions on the issues.

Watched it again. This ain't an apology.

This is absolutely not Matthews proclaiming, "I'm sorry for what I said".

Nope. It's a case of, "I'm sorry you all misunderstood what I said and I'll try to be more precise in the future.."

Um, OK, Chris, we'll all try harder from now on. Our bad.

Chris Mathews handing out the IMUS characterization, I’m a good person. Yah right, and Chris show me your bank account bump, and those bonus checks. The wing dinger of the right wing ding pathological neo-con spasmatic context twisting sliders to home base, master of contour thick word sling, calling a double hitter for Neo fouls. The Conservo-Neo-Maniac of right, dedicated to tails and the fairly smith to create political doubt to do just one thing sway the voter. No, thrust the vote to hit a home run for the Neo-Con’s that are just plain wrong.

Chris you are caught by the public eye and defined for what you are a Journalistic Mercenary with one side called greed, worse you do like what you do. scambling America and perversing the electorate. To you thats fun, because you know it can be done.

Life's a campaign.
You can always hire new consultants.

I had to applaud Chris for his comments... I am not a Hillary supporter, yet I am not a Hillary basher, I think she has some good qualities and will consider voting for her until we get to the end of the race and I make my final decision.

But Chris's comments were not nice, were not accurate, and he recognized that and he apologized for what he said. If he was honest and the comments were intended as he clarified then I agree with him, the events with Bill were what catapulted her to the limelight.... What she did there was all her, but had those events not happened she would have never been out there with the chance to shine, which she did.

Most of all though, I really think a lot of a TV personality who can muster the guts, the "sack" to come on TV and say "This is not what I meant" or "I said something that did not come out with the meaning I wanted", in other words to say "I WAS WRONG" Chris Matthews did that I I give him a A+ for it....
Jim

I think his show should be now called BLUEBALL!!!

If there is any validity to what Tweety says is the reason for Hillary's rising then I say eat your heart out Right wingers for giving Hillary the necessary fodder to rise
....That includes you Tweety..You big GOP dope!! Irony Can Be So Ironic..

This is an apology?

Hillary Clinton has a potential for greatness.

This guy....this guy....I don't know about this guy.

Fuck you, Dhris.

"..hope, a uniquely American hope that we can actually make things better"

Right... so no other country in the world is capable of hoping to make things better? ..what?

He talks about his show being fearless, blunt, direct, provocative, tough.. all are cheap gimmicks, Chris! A substitute for the real thing.
Give us good quality journalism! Journalism is not a blunt instrument. It has tact, subtlety, wit!

He said he "gets it". So, hopefully he does now realize how he came across when women especially Hillary are concerned. I am sick and tired of people trashing women just because they are women. Trash a woman because she is a thief, inept, stubborn, etc. just like when it is a man. Also, this crying thing is really a stinker. I wished Hillary had not cried. But it happens. Why can a man tear up and cry over things and not a woman? We see politicians, athletes, all sorts of men cry all the time, but Hillary tear up and lord help us. It stinks! The media is so stupid.

He's right in that she probably gets *some* sympathy for it but its not the only reason. She likely would have done well even without Monica. It's not like she dropped the cookie tray and passed the bar post-lewinsky.

But I'd feel better if he would at least point out that Bush is only president due to Daddy...fairs fair in the brutal honesty department.

L.A. Confidential @ 17:

the other night with Bill Mahre, there were two hecklers escorted out of the audience. Unlike Chimpy Bush and Darth Cheney, I don't think Jay pre-screens his audiences to ensure only "favorable" applause.

bubba @ 86:

But I'd feel better if he would at least point out that Bush is only president due to Daddy...fairs fair in the brutal honesty department.

Amen to that. Bush only won because of (1) a White House blowjob, and (2) name recognition and the [untrue] assumption that the son would be as docile and nice as the father.

Impeach cheney and bush @ 85:

Seems to me that Ed Muskie's crying spell was the end of his career. And Howard Dean lost any hope of the presidency with his "I have a scream" speech.

To suggest that most of what he says is unscripted is a partial excuse only confirms what I've thought. He's lazy. Do a little homework or your going to continue to be a political tabloid hack.

Eh, it would be easy to be hard on Tweety... but I think this was his way of making it clear, publicly, that he realizes he stepped over the line. It's more of a non-story. I mean, he's not going to suddenly change a great deal but he has at least been reeled in somewhat.

P.D. @ 3:

I just saw it. That was no apology. He went on and on how much he loves politics and blah, blah, blah. Then he spends another 20 odd minutes on Hillary! The man is obsessed. It's getting tiresome.

I could not agree more with the above. Saying I am sorry reminds me of the honesty defense. Under the virtue of something noble, Chris Matthews is trying to gain forgiveness for his many transgression against Hillary Clinton.

Honesty and saying your are sorry is no more acceptable defense then using rationalization, displacement or projection. It is, in the many defenses against anxiety, just another defense to save one self from feeling "bad."

Maybe Matthews has scene the candidates get away with this line of defense, so he decided to use for his own problems. Recall Barack Obama disclosed he used drugs as a young adult. Every time other candidates dare use this disclosure against him, there seemed to be this shared agreement, since Obama was being honest, criticism is off limits. It should not be, if everyone is to be held responsible for what they do. We have not heard the last of this issue. In the general elections, the Republicans will let Obama know what his honest brings: Fresh talking points in which to knock him over the head with.

Joseph

yeah, it looked to me like he was told to apologize by msnbc. it didn't look at all like he was speaking from that "heart" of his. and he wasffled and parsed so much it, it was obvious he didn't mean to apologize at all.

As I have said before and last week, Chris Matthews "criticism" of Hillary Clinton moves way beyond "political critique."

Chris Matthews hatred of Hillary Clinton has shown a consisten pattern of hatred which is nothing less than pathological, In short, Matthews so-called "political critique" of Hillary Clinton is pathological, rooted in hate.

This so-called "apology" in my view, is a little too little and a little too late. Matthews so-called "apology" is supetficial and you and I know that he cannot mean a word he says. The "apology" was most likely written for Matthews to read, but pathological hatred cannot be rectified with mere words.

No, Matthews still has a patjological hatred of Hillary Clinton and he still holds the same views about her as he did when challenging the women on the 'View' to a political debate and telling others that only "real journalists" as himself "have a right to criticize politicians.

Wow, tough crowd. I, for one, thought he was totally wrong with that he said about Hillary recently but I'm willing to accept his apology as face value.

He didn't apologize. He blamed people with sensitive feelings for not taking his good heart into consideration.
He also said that he would have realized it was wrong to do such a thing to John McCain, but it had to be explained to him over and over that it was wrong to say it about Clinton.
He is nothing more than a professional liar in fear of losing his status.

Go back to your dark cave, Tweety, and write a REAL apology. Don't come back til you've done it. On second thought, take Tucker & the MoJo bunch with you and don't come back.

What?, allow tweety to screw up all the money they have placed on their candidate? They will kick his puffy ass off the network first.

You better believe they have been kicking his ass all over MSN, for pulling the shit he has pulled. I wondered how long he would take to spew his bullshit apology and I still can't understand what it was for . In his own little sick way, he simply was telling the truth.

But he was supposed to wait until the general election for this kind of shit.

"I apologize to those offended by what I said, because they're too stupid to understand what I meant" _Tweety

Chris Matthews always claims he is a "straight-shooter." I take him at his word, thus do not believe a word stated in that phony-ass apology. From Media Matters via Raw Story, so people realize that Matthews hatred of Hillary Clinton is, indeed, pathological beyond normal “criticism,” but, rather, pathological hatred.

It should be noted that I am not part of any women’s organizations when I make my analysis here. I think it would be a great thing if beyond women’s organization’s that others let the vultures over at MSNBC know what you think of Chris Matthews hatred towards Hillary Clinton, and even the marginalization of candidates like John Edwards while over-emphasizing the loser campaign of Rudy Guiliani.

http://mediamatters.org/items/200801110002

From Media Matters is the following to prove that Matthews has an intense hatred for Hillary Clinton and resorts to typical sexist remarks about her. Here it is folks:

“Using overtly sexist language, he has referred to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) as a "she devil" and compared her to a "strip-teaser." He has called her "witchy" and likened her voice to "fingernails on a blackboard." He has referred to men who support her as "castratos in the eunuch chorus." He has suggested Clinton is not "a convincing mom" and said "modern women" like Clinton are unacceptable to "Midwest guys." He has called her "Madame Defarge" and "Nurse Ratched.””

After Clinton won the New Hampshire Democratic primary, Matthews asserted: "[T]he reason she may be a front-runner is her husband messed around." He described her performance at a debate last Saturday as apparently "good enough to seem good enough here for women who wanted to root for her anyway."
His sexism is hardly limited to comments about Clinton. During coverage of the New Hampshire primary, he said that Clinton is the only viable woman presidential candidate "on the horizon." He couldn't think of a single female governor eligible to run: "Where are the big-state women governors?" he asked. "Where are they? Name one." In fact, several of the states that currently have women governors are comparable in population to the states in which the male presidential candidates serve or have served as governor.

In November 2006, shortly after the Democrats took the majority in Congress, Matthews asked a guest if then-presumptive speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was "going to castrate Steny Hoyer" if Hoyer (D-MD) were elected House majority leader.
During coverage of a presidential debate last spring, NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell was compelled to remind Matthews that Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) wife, Michelle, is a Harvard-educated lawyer after he focused obsessively on her physical appearance.

The good news is that people are speaking out against Matthews' flagrant, persistent sexism.

Of the New Hampshire primary results, the blog TalkLeft, observed:

"It was a revolt of women sick and tired of the likes of Chris Tweety Matthews and the Media Misogynists.

Barack Obama did not lose New Hampshire. The Media did. Their misogynist hatred of Hillary Clinton was soundly rejected by the voters. Especially the women voters of New Hampshire.
How the Media will react to this well deserved rebuke is the question. And let's be clear, Chris Matthews should be removed from covering this race. His offensive behavior is a disgrace to NBC."

It's time to play a little "Hardball." Please contact MSNBC and Chris Matthews today and let them know what you think.

Especially, if you think MSNBC is trying to save face, and that Matthews did not mean a word he said last night!!!!

Lame. For him to talk about his own good heart as a prelude to an apology was self-serving, self-centered and annoying.

This wasn't an apology, it was a calculated strategic retreat. He knows he won't be able, at least for a llttle while, to sneer and whine about Liberals when voters are turning out to vote for progressive Democrats in such overwhelming numbers.

Let's see, how can I put this as accurately and fairly as possible? Chris Matthews does not have a good heart. He is a bad, irresponsible punk that thinks women are incapable of being leaders on their own merits. He is also a member of a cabal of fake journalists that have been undermining honest political and social discourse in this country for the past thirty years. These people are sucking the life out of America, and Tweety is one of the hardest, most vicious suckers.

And don't you EVER tell me that this isn't a conspiracy. It's all about mergers and acquisitions, influencing and manipulating government regulations and contracts. This is how the economic royalists rule over the masses. It stinks, and Tweety's pushing it like a good little fish monger.

The words "sorry" or "apologize" never crossed Tweetys lips. It was more like the usual
"It's your fault that you misunderstood me" crapola.

He didn't even give us the courtesy of the fake, passive, it's your fault apology language, such as: "to the extent that I...."

If that was an apology, I want my 3 minutes of remorse-acceptance back.

What a loser. He knows he's an ass but hey HE LOVES POLITICS. HE LOVES POLITICS. I'm sorry, man. HE LOVES POLITICS. Isn't that a good enough reason to be an ass?

That "WHEWSHHH!" at the end says it all. Did anyone else but me see the gun pointed at his head while he was READING his faithless-based apology?

I would like to be able to somewhat trust someone in the media to ask the proper, tough and relevent questions of politicians that will be informative beyond the Britny Spears news range.

Maybe someday I'll find one I can trust and watch with some sort of confidence.....

When a news pundit makes an apology based solely upon public opinion you know it's gonna be a pile of stuff. Watching the clip you can feel the misogyny dripping off the man, yet he makes it sound like he was doing business as usual and everyone else is wrong. As George Costanza said, Stick your sorrys in a sack

YOU! call that an APOLOGY, I guess that is all you will get from (NOBALLS) Matthews.

This was a non-apologetic apology. This is one sick puppy. And one sicker network for condoning it and promoting it all over hell's harbor.

There's this adorable little spit of a show called COUNTDOWN with KEITH OLBERMANN. Airs at 8 PM and midnight, NY time. I hate to mention MSNBC in this post, but that's where you'll find the show-- and find Olbermann. THE voice you CAN trust. The man is brilliant.

I emailed them as well...telling them "nutball" needs a new host!..so they must have received enough shit to make him do something.

Chris matthews should be about number 20 on the hit list. He just doesnt like hillary. Big deal.

Did the brass at MSNBC toss ALL OF CHRIS'S NASTY COMMENTS IN A BASKET AND ASK CHRIS TO PICK OUT ONE? ONE!

His apology was a non-event. As expected IT WAS ALL ABOUT CHRIS.

MSNBC this morning has Joe Scarborough, Mika and Pat Buchanan, all, praising Chris. Duh!

Worthless! Time for MSNBC TO CLEAN HOUSE AND BRING IN NEW YOUNG TALENT.

EXCEPT FOR KEITH OLBERMANN.

Obermann is an idiot, saying empty partisan things loudly, of course childish Hillary partisans prefer Obermann's support over Matthews criticism... it's sort of a good parent/bad parent syndrome, all babies want to be loved.

souljaEXVOTO @ 80:

I think his show should be now called BLUEBALL!!!

That's Limbaugh's unofficial name for his show, isn't it?

Wow... a troll... and not even a good one.

Olberman has displayed far more intelligence upon political matters than Matthews, Scarborough, Limbaugh, Coulter, O'Reilly, Savage combined. Olberman has been just as critical upon the Democrats and its leadership as he's been of the Bush administration. He doesn't give anyone a free pass just because they may possess a [D] next to their name. Matthew's criticism is rooted in pettiness and he tends to make it personal.

At least it had the appearance of an apology. That's as close as it gets. He spent 5 minutes on it though. About 15 seconds apologizing to Hillary and then about 4 min and 45 seconds talking about himself.

I liked the mea culpa - and I also like Chris Matthews and his show.

As he said in his apology, he loves politics and loves politicians, and that comes across every night, regardless is they are left or right.

Could it be he has so many detractors on both sides of the political fence simply because he doesn't demonstrate too much of a liberal bias?

All I see is an entertaining guy who gets good guests and who talks about issues that interest me. What's wrong with that?

RE: thundermonkey (is that a macho play on Filipino Monkey)

Obermann's grand cause has been to target O'Reilly, topically - for ratings, Obermann growing numbers of fans quite consciously support this positioning. If you deny this you're a revisionist is a class with Rommney, or Hillary (can you believe she's now claiming to be an opponent of the Iraq war?).

By contrast, Matthews doesn't set up his show in opposition to Fox or anything else and his understanding of the US political system well above Obermann's. Obermann's simple opposition strategy is successfull, but so is American Idol.

Ahh, I see, Chris Matthews gets to make his apology to Hillary by first serving up royal fellatio on his viewers by talking about "hope," or, more precisely, "our uniquely American hope." Because no other nation, and no other people can possibly have the 110% hope that only an American knows and, well, feels.

Isn't this the sort of rancid cliched BULLSHIT that gets us into policing the world and provoking and starting pre-emptive wars where we don't belong??!!

Tweety is part of the "National Greatness" crowd. He's one of them, he's a D.C. neighbor, he pals around with these people eating weenies on Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard.

Mind you, Chris Matthews is not the only beltway phony liberal blowhard who should be apologizing this week. Be sure to check Justin Raimondo's rip-snorting slapdown against The New Republic.

After this message, I'll be deleting this website from my bookmarks permanently. How collectively stupid are the bunch of you? Take your time now; don't rush to answer. As a matter of fact, FUCK IT! I'LL tell you how stupid you are. If Bill Clinton had a son (assuming he existed and was old enough) running for office, everybody - I mean everybody - would be claiming that Bill Jr. (let's say that was his name) was trading on his name to get into power. This is true of the Kennedy's and, more recently, the Bushes. So why isn't true for the Clintons? Fuck you people are stupid....Don't you recognize entitlement when you see it. But no! Its because Hilary is a woman and Chris Matthews is misogynist pig (if Chelsea ran, you'd be saying the same shit). So you know what? Fuck all of you and Sayonara losers

.....either I dozed off or he forgot to add the "I was wrong and I apologize" ......guess he is taking his cues from Bush, never apologize.

Well for starters... Bill O'Reilly is a liar, and actually the way that Olberman points out the fallcies of O'Reilly's arguments and assertions is really quite humorous. Then again... Olberman isn't the only one that does this. Of course ratings become an issue... it's an issue for all of the talking heads. To simply say that it's only Olberman, then you're really reaching. They all strive to make good ratings, that's the way they keep their jobs. But I don't think that's Olberman's grand cause. I think Olberman's grand cause would be accountability. That as talking heads, legislators, political leaders, business leaders and heads of state — all should be held accountable for their actions (or lack of inaction).

Matthews sets himself up to be heard, and it's not his style to really tackle issues or the persistent inconsistancies that spew forth from other talking heads. Matthews "understanding" of the political system stems from his unhealthy man-love of McCain and sometimes Rudy. He has shown in the past that he isn't capable of "understanding" the political system beyond his own bias.

No my name isn't some macho play. It comes from the nickname of an old RPG character of mine that was Kung-Fu monkey that could hurl lightning bolts. Is is stupid? Oh, yeah. Is it childish? You better believe it. At least I could come up with four-syllable word for my callsign and not resort to a Neanderthal's guttural muttering.

And... you're still a troll (and a bad one at that).

Hey SPIT Matthews, while you're at it , apologize to your 10 viewer and sylvester the cat that you are going to stop excreting phlegm on them when you talk.

School out early today, Ed? You obviously haven't ever watch Hardball or Chris Matthews, especiallly in the past year or so. He doesn't attack Senator Clinton's record or views, he attacks HER and viciously too. Funny, he doesn't attack male candidates like that. He seems to have problems with ALL women. You have totally missed the point of the entire thread. You seem more like (and sound like) a Bill O'Reilly type of guy. Why don't you go troll around over at the Faux News site?

Gavin @ 119:

Could it be he has so many detractors on both sides of the political fence simply because he doesn't demonstrate too much of a liberal bias?

All I see is an entertaining guy who gets good guests and who talks about issues that interest me. What's wrong with that?

i agree with you.

i watch "hardball" every day, and while matthews does come off as a sputtering, interrupting putz sometimes, i also think he is clearly a liberal who is excited about the obama phenomenon. reading the comments on this website, you'd think he was michael savage.

he's not perfect. not even close. but i'll take him over olbermann any day. while i may agree more with olbermann, generally speaking, his show is about as interesting as installing new software or shopping for slacks. wow, he's going after "billo" again. how exciting.

I think that this is an overstatement and misleading to use this circumstance to justify that Chris Matthews is a "crook" or "liar." It's immature and somewhat malicious to leave comments that are entirely based on your political views and ignoring the subject at hand; Chris Matthews made a mistake, and he owned up to it. He apologized for how it may have sounded but I believe that it was genuine. I don't watch Hardball often but I am reading his book. From what I have read so far, he tries hard not to be bias and it shows. I have read books from both left and right bias and I was impressed by Matthews' ability to say what he means without much bias. (Yes, I know that bias is always present and is nearly impossible to exclude from any piece of writing)
For those who are being blatantly offensive, be a bit more charitable for those who are brave enough to state their opinion in public instead of being passive aggressive.

That was the lamest apology I have ever seen. The only reason he apologized was that MSNBC was getting lots of angry mail regarding his comments. And I was one of them who sent angry emails. I do not support Hillary in this election, but I think his comments regarding her were an insult not just to her, but all women. He suggested that Hillary gained the female vote because they felt sorry for her because of Bill cheating. That is an insult to any woman's intelligence. I would never vote for someone out of sympathy. And Matthews needs to be treated for his OCD about anything Clinton. I personally hope he sticks his foot in his mouth again and MSNBC yanks him.
