In his Wisconsin victory speech this evening, John McCain wasted no time in firing shots across Barack Obama's bow. Hoping to highlight the Democratic frontrunner's inexperience, McCain to partisan cheers ridiculed Obama's promises as "eloquent but empty." But in a preview of Republican duplicity to come, McCain blasted Obama's past advocacy of unilateral American attacks against Al Qaeda targets in Pakistan, attacks the Bush administration itself is now finally carrying out.

Update: John Amato:

When Bash confronts McCain on this issue---saying that the WH wants to do the same thing, he gets a little nasty. He tries to make the case that Obama should keep quiet about his intentions.Sure, just like Bush has. And what about McCrazy singing bomb Iran?

He's still very hostile to Dana Bash of CNN...

You think in this day and age, McCain will get away with this? I mean, I'm sure he doesn't read blogs that connect the dots.. but someone in his campaign must now that this may backfire?

the double-talk express has left the building with john insane as conductor...

CHOO! CHOO!

The Strange Talk Express is pulling out of the station now with no conductor.......

Wha - ?

That's one dumb attack on several levels from John "100 years" McCain.

I think great-grampa is getting confused.

McGrandpa needs a nap....and perhaps a diaper change.

McCain is totally hypocritical. First he backs Bush, then he doesn't, then he does once again. McCain is putting on the Bush cloak and trying to appear that he is not. That's not going to play well in the general election. Too transparent and disingenous.

It's too bad that this confrontation has to come from someone like McCain.

Obama should have been confronted long ago by liberals and people who love peace and justice.
Instead, the left has done nothing but suck up to this phony.

Clinton, as flawed as she is, is head and shoulders above Barack.
But the left is so lazy and stupid and sheep-like, they can be led by the nose to some vague promised land in Obamaville.

well, we gotta hold the media's feet to the fire.

Those comments came out of the neocon playbook. Fox News Sunday Chris Wallace's interview with Bush. Bush said almost the same exact thing.

Remember the first Rule of the GOP.

Never let the facts get in the way.

Also...play THEIR game...don't respond...ATTACK!! Attack their patriotism! Attack the useless deaths of young Americans! Talk about gas prices...link them to the war! Talk about the housing crisis...talk about the collapsing stock market...food costs....c'mon...GW Bush has given us enuf material to win THREE elections.

Oh yeah?? Really? Name one thing Hillary has done which places her "head and shoulders above Barack"? Last time I checked, Obama opposed the war in Iraq. Hillary, on the other hand, remained a loyal Bush dog in cheerleading for the war, torturing prisoners, spying on Americans. So tell us. What makes Hillary "head and shoulders above Barack"?

i had, in some ways, feared that mccain might prove to be a strong candidate... but, after witnessing this dishonest rambling i couldn't be happier that the GOP has chosen such an angry and confused man.

and, from mccain's speech, one can see the way the GOP is going to try to frame the 08 race (that the GOP is pro-people, while the dems are pro-big-govt).

bwahahaa. this is just too easy. the GOP has lost its edge if that is the best they can do. not to mention mccain's suck-up to al qaeda-coddlng pakistan...

"America cannot risk a confused leader who had proposed bombing America’s ally Pakistan. and said he would negotiate without preconditions with America’s enemies such as Iran, who deny the Holocaust" _ john mccain

Is the Bush administration guilty of plagiarism?

mccain is so full of it. he will be lucky once the real
campaign begins that his heart does not give out
from all the bullshit lies and crap that comes out of
his ass-kissing mouth.

he should remove the ass-snap from his mouth
so it's not so obvious that he has been attached
to cheney's butthole.

If McCain is really giving us "straight talk," he would condemn Bush, who is actually behind a missile attack in Pakistan, more harshly than Obama, who raised the possibility.

Funny that McInsane would bring up Holocaust denial. After all, there are quite a few AmeriKKKans who deny the Holocaust. I'll bet a fair number of them comprise his base.

So true.

McCain can try to smear Obama as much as he wants. People are rejecting this rhetoric. Bush is at a 19% approval rate, why would this country vote for the Republicans.

I think McCain is as scared as Clinton. They are trying to throw as much mud as they can and hope that it could slow the Obamentum. It didn't work in Wisconsin, it won't work in Ohio or Texas either.

This is good for Obama, because people are getting real tired of these negative attacks and I think McCains attacks will backfire. I bet by next week Obama will have over a 10 lead on Hillary and a way bigger lead over McCain.

John McCain plays his role well, that being an angry, frustrated runner-up who never becomes president, upon whom we'll look back and say, "How the fuck did he ever get that close?"

To be a loyal McInsane supporter, you must understand that everything he says supersedes everything else. The "Straight Talk Express" takes a lot of detours, so when he talks tomorrow, you must erase from your memory everything he had said today.

Is McCain denying that he plans to bomb Iran?

If I knew that OBL was hiding in Pakistan I'd be authorizing some attacks too because obviously Pakistan is too pussified or too weak to do anything about it. Of course I'da had 500 or so Special Forces in Pakistan looking for his ass since 2001 anyway but that's beside the point.

You have people on left that are split on Clinton, whether she is just to the left of Joe McCarthy or a good enough Dem, and the Right split over whether McNut is a conservative or a dirty, pinko-commie hippie. Obama is outside the fray kicking ass.

Let that old dried up fart, less jobs, more wars McCain target Obama. Last night, Obama threw some strong punches at McCain. “Shorter lists are funnier” generally holds true, and very well may re the McList. C&L’ers are diverse and eclectic, and I’ve enjoyed many lols, LOLs, LOL!s and Ha ha’s here. I’m reluctant to exclude any McEntry, ’cause they’re all funny/pointed/cathartic to varying degrees, and the sheer length of the entire list (posted Tuesdays and Fridays) has a humorous quality of its own.
We are also generating denigrating McMemes, some of which may be useful, in a memie sort of way. The thuglicontards are very aware of the usefulness of denigrating memes, and it won’t hurt to put out a few of our own.
That being said, a Top 11, Dirty Dozen, etc. are eventual considerations, for those (myself included, usually) who like things condensed to essentials.
Pile on, C&L'ers!

Will update at my convenience on pertinent threads.

I realize that some people post silly outrageous crap on here just to watch the reaction but I must say that yours is one of the stupidest posts I have ever ever read.

Obama has been a work horse in both the state and federal senate, sponsoring or writing hundreds of bills... Hillary has merely named courthouses after political heroes.

McCain will be 72 when he takes office. That's no spring chicken. As long as Huckabee stays in the race, McCain still has to keep up a hell of a campaign schedule. He's gotta be getting tired. It wouldn't surprise me to hear him say some bizarre things during the coming months.

He must never be forgiven for that vote for the use of torture. He sold his soul when he did that.

I personally will not forget that when people were having their lives devastated during Katrina, both Bush and McCain were on stage together laughing singing eating cake and having a good ol time.

If there is a Obama v McCain debate, I would bet a hundred dollars that Obama will be very respectful of McCain. He won't treat him with kid gloves, but he will be respectful in the way he talks to him.

Of course he'll be respectful. Obama has to know simply the picture of him on stage next to the old man is going to win votes

So true.

Damn, who needs McCain when you've got rabid Hillary supporters?

You make an assumption that because it is obvious that Hillary Clinton is vastly more intelligent and accomplished and dedicated that Obama that I am a supporter of Hillary Clinton.

What is obvious to me is that Obama is one flawed candidate.
Doesn't it say something to you that this guy went to CAMPAIGN FOR LIEBERMAN????
Not only that - but he said that Lieberman was working in "our behalf". Do YOU think that Lieberman is working is YOUR behalf? Idiot Obama does.

And Obama's comment about going into Pakistan was incredibly stupid and jingoistic - worthy of a Cheney.

But he has not been confronted by the left - or his supporters.
But McCain will fry his behind and embarrass liberals and progressives for supporting this phony.

I could care less if you or anyone doesn't want to vote for Hillary Clinton because she voted for the Iraq war resolution and she should have known better.

But I can't stand the idiotic crap that Obama is putting out there and the adoring swallowing of it by people who claim to be educated and/or progressive.

Pete, Pete, Pete, let me first say I'm undecided on who I think s/b the Dem nominee -- but your tossing in the red herring about Obama supporting LIEberman is ridiculous. Once LaMont was the Dem's choice, Obama supported him.

A Republican strategist on Wolf's show just said he didn't think the people of the US wanted to turn the keys over to someone with the lack of experience that Obama has.

I hope McCain keeps these attacks up and that they get even more vile and personal. Because I believe that's the only way Obama will finally realize that there's no 'coming together' with these bastards...that his desire to bring some degree of civility to the process is a joke to them. If Obama is to be 'the man', then I hope that by the time he's buried that short-armed SOB with a 20-point landslide, he'll know that the only way to govern with these bigoted, racist, homophobic, greedy pricks on the other side of the aisle is to ram it down their throats and shove it up their asses.
