Please Fire Isiah Thomas

Philly is laughing at you, James Dolan. Please-fire-Isiah. Wasn't it enough that he lost a sexual harassment suit? The Knicks are an embarrassment. Bring basketball back to Madison Square Garden.

LOL

John, I feel for ya.

My team, the Warriors, are really playing some good ball lately, in spite of the Webber aquisition. Fun, fun, fun!

Amen to that! I am a lifelong Knicks fan and I have grown used to losing seasons and disappointment, but this is just ridiculous.

Pilatunes's picture

I am a Leafs fan, y'all have nothing to complain about.

Back to the subject at hand...they didn't fire Bill O'Turdly. There are no standards anymore.

Forget the Knicks, the Rangers just blew a 5-0 lead for the first time ever, our GM also knows he is going nowhere and makes some bizarre moves because of it and our coach is so dumb he thinks Ryan Hollweg is a hockey player. Watching Tom Renney coach hockey is like watching Bush do anything, you just keep screaming, "STOP! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T!" Then you grimace as we send more troops into Iraq or watch the Rangers try and kill the 5 minute boarding major that shithead just took.

Oops, I'm in the wrong room, I think. Are these basketball teams? They are? Yep, I'm in the wrong room. Sorry. I was looking for the football team room. Guess that's farther down the road. Okay, have a good evening and I'll just show myself out.

How many times does Isiah Thomas have to scream to the world that he has no class before he gets fired? This has got to be bad for business. Then again, by the looks of most NBA fans, he's exactly what they want. Sad.

To talk about it, as if it were important, makes it even more ridiculous!!

what would having class have anything to do with it, aren't coaches hired and fired based on winning?

if thomas had any class he would be building houses in new orleans with his millions 24/7/365

Sorry, John, but no-class is as no-class does. See the 91 Eastern Finals walk-off. Thomas is just cementing his legacy as the Ty Cobb of Springfield, and Dolan's enabling him. With the noest-classest point guard in the league, no less. Coincidence?

And as a Bulls fan, it's been a shitty season on our end, but still, BWAH-hahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Maybe he can bring X McDaniel back to shore up his ranks!

Ugh.

There are SO MANY sports sites out there, SO MANY sports outlets, do we need ANOTHER ONE? Please, leave it out of my political sites. Those of us who don't share this bougie obsession with professional sports corporations are desperate for some sort of sanctuary from this talk. It's everywhere in our lives, whether we search it out or not.

I, for one, don't give a flying fuck whether or not basketball comes back to Madison Square Garden. Must we have yet another site that does? I dig this blog, I hate to see it sink to that level. Politics? Yes. Culture? Yes. Literature? Yes.

But as long as you're briefing us on basketball, shall we talk Britney and WWF next? It has exactly as much relevance to, and impact on, my life. Just so you know.

You could have the Sonics. But you'll have to beat the crap out of the Oklahomans who bought them.

Our sports teams inevitably wind up in court over the circumstances of their departure. This is all Howard 'Charfucks' Schultz's fault for selling the team after the city turned down his demand for more welfare...the bonds on the last refurb on the Sonics' home still aren't paid.

Gah I hate them all. Greedy fucks.

In Isiah Thomas' embarrassing incompetence, Dolan sees a reflection of himself. Thus the louder the boos get, the deeper Dolan's heels dig in. Thomas' ain't leaving on his own volition and leaving those contractually guaranteed millions on the table. It makes one wonder what would qualify as catastrophic enough to force Jimmy to cut the cord.

Thankfully, when I do follow b-ball I root for the league-leading Celtics.

Posting about sports on a political blog is an abuse of power. But, John holds the power.

backwoods's picture

John, I don't think that they have hit bottom yet. Dolan is not going to admit this was an idiots' move. Thomas and Dolan both have to go. Also If the right wing hadn't stolen the country, politics would have been a minor irritant for us librul Progressives and we wouldn't even have a web site called Crooks and Liars. For those of you who don't give a wit about sports, I say you don't know what you are missing. I'm proud of my obsession with (NY) sports. If you didn't follow the Giants trail from start to finish with the kind of intense obsessional devotion that I did then you missed the really good stuff in life. And the Knicks are a deep embarrassment to the devotees. Also, to continue the rant, we progressives don't even have a horse in this race. If Obama doesn't quickly clean up the horseshit mess the repugs will have left, and establish that he is a true progressive and if he doesn't work at straightening up the SCOTUS, US foreign policy, and our internal affairs, then we will have wasted eight year of our lives pissing and moaning about those assholes on the right. Go Knicks, Rangers etc.

Is James Dolan the Pinch Sultzberger of the basketball world or is Sultzberger the James Dolan of the newspaper world? Two of New York City's most important institutions being mismanaged by men who inherited their positions instead of earning them. Both went to college and majored in pre-dad. Great work, Jimmy and Pinch!

Good fucking god, people, how are we gonna save the world if you don't take the sticks outta your asses.

Hell, we know it's not public campaign financing, but it does speak to the entrenchment of the wealthy and privileged via dogma and "who they know" versus real value and common sense and fulfilling a public license to serve a community, and, oh, yeah, some of us like the hoop. Big deal. Even Trekkies should get laid now and then, however implausible the prospect.

Isiah is the Gee-dubya of the NBA. What an embarrassment.

person who votes's picture

usually, arm chair coaches are wrong -

in the case of the knicks - they are right

why do they keep hiring bums that absolutely no one else in the NBA wants? Is it that hard to trade or buy the contract of a decent player? Knicks are the only team to give a complete bum a 100 mil contract.

I think there must be some backroom scandal where they hire bums and the bum players give them a cut of their salary in exchange for being signed. The knicks literally have players that no one would trade or buy and they have passed on many great trades and 1st round picks.

As a New Yorker, I'm ashamed that these jokers call themselves a team. I miss the Knicks of old. When Patrick Ewing was there, the team and the management had class. They had WINS too! Fire Isiah!!!

Mark's picture

John, as a New Yorker I'm definitely felling the pain with the Knicks. Isiah Thomas & Jim Dolan are above the law & no stain of Adam's sin can ever stop them. And the Nets are looking like they are rebuilding after the Jason Kidd trade so basketball is a bummer for me in New York. Maybe all 3 hockey teams will make the playoffs if we play our cards right. And the Mets better not collapse at the end of 2008 like they did in 2007. Seeing Jimmy Rollins being proven right was agonizing & embarassing. Well, there is at least one good news story in the NBA & that is the New Orleans Hornets are in first place & beat Dallas 104-93. After all the hell the city went through it feels good to see the Hornets come out from the other side.

Between Bush and the Rangers I am this close to running headfirst into a buidling over and over again until it collapses or I am unconscious. Given the thickness of my skull this could take awhile. That said when they get on a winning streak it does keep me sane enough to discuss the issues instead of foaming at the mouth like Rush Limbaugh.

Old Billy's picture

Bad boys, bad boys, what you gonna do?

Random observations:

Isiah has to be the worst GM, but Kevin McHale isn't exactly setting the world on fire.

Joe Dumars is doing a good job.

I'm a Pistons fan and I never liked the Knicks.

Patrick Ewing was a chump and I never liked him.

Dr. J was awesome. Still is.

The Red Wings lost 6 straight then finally won but lost Lidstrom for 3 - 4 weeks.

Barry Melrose is the most annoying sportscaster who is frequently right.

Kyle's picture

It could be worse Billy, you could have 6 defensemen who you wouldn't miss if they went down for a month.

Ed's picture

It's a sad state of affairs. I've been a lifelong Knicks fan, but I won't spend a second watching or rooting for them while that scumbag is running the team.

Sadder still, my 6-year old son has discovered and become obsessed with all things sports, and now that football season is over, he wants to start following the Knicks. I have to distract him with college basketball. Go Rutgers! At least they lose honorably.

I'm going to channel (ewww) Rumsfeld:

"You go with the idiotic coach you have; not the one you'd like to have on the bench."

I honestly don't know what happened to Isaiah, but that's what he gets for turning on Magic Johnson when the brotha came up HIV-positive. They haven't been seen in one another's company since.

Magic rebounded - successful business man, even if he's carrying water for Hillary - while Isaiah is reduced to coaching the lamest NBA team since the Golden State Warriors (and I should know, I've suffered as a Warriors fan since the Franklin Mieuli days), and sexually harassing Knicks management employees.

Anyone costing an organization big dollars because he's ignoring the sexual harassment policy usually has been fired or reassigned to the corporate equivalent of Siberia. The fact that Dolan hasn't done this continues to put a pox on his house at MSG,

Wouldn't be the first stupid thing the Yankees management under Hank Steinbrenner has done.

I'm an A's fan (which means I wouldn't piss on the Yankees if they were on fire), but the way Joe Torre was hung out to dry was pure stank, even for the Yankees. They should have told Joe right after the WS he wasn't returning and not let him twist in the wind like that for two weeks and come back with an offer that Ty Cobb would have busted a bat over their heads for. If they were going with Girardi, they shouldn't have engaged in that drama.

And kicking Don Mattingly to the curb, not to mention the treatment of Don Zimmer, gave me indigestion because if you're a baseball fan, you know those guys were classy.

The Yankees used to represent CLASS. Now, they're just 25 guys in $10,000 suits with thug life for owners.

Renney deserves the hammering for that one because we all know Jagr cannot score in the shootout. He has never been good one on one and never will be, Straka should have been in there, and Dubinsky or Dawes should have been in over Drury. I swear Renney is going to come up with a surge plan that will result in a too many men on the ice penalty one game.
