Countdown: Bushed! Nexus of Terror, No-Bids & Soldier Deployments

Monday's edition of Bushed! on Countdown begins with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Chair Admiral Mike Mullen who said he wanted to give combat troops 1-2 years rest time in between deployments, but didn't see that happening in the next year or two. Next up was the eight figure no-bid contract awarded to former Attorney General John Ashcroft by scandal-ridden US Attorney Christopher Christie to monitor a settlement for the DoJ. And finally, one of the many Nexus of Politics & Terror scandals, this one involved Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell and Attorney General Michael Mukasey, who blatantly lied by saying they had lost intelligence because the telecom companies stopped cooperating with the government for fear of lawsuits -- only to announce later that day that all of those companies had, in fact, fallen into line and were all continuing to participate in the government's surveillance programs.

And as deluded in their smug sense of superiority as their serfs are.
When Paul Krugman said it wasn't the fired US Attys that we had to worry about, it was the ones who kept their jobs by being partisan hacks he was referring to Chris Christie. What a scumbag. In the months leading up to a close race for the Senate in NJ in 06, he announced an investigation of the Dem candidate, insinuated that an indictment was imminent, leaked grand jury testimony that was unflattering though not an indication of anything illegal. The Dem won a narrow victory and 2 years later not a peep out of Christie on the subject.
How about former Justice Department official who now works for Google?
Jane Horvath was Justice's chief privacy and civil liberties officer when Google fought a broad request for information by the department.
And why is Google now being sued because they refuse to release requested information?
Privacy?
HAHAHA! Right.

Adm. Mullen's non-committal comment re rest for combat-weary soldiers is similar to the comment he made when asked by the states' governors at the National Governors' Association when they could expect to be reimbursed for National Guard equipment destroyed or damaged in Iraq and Afghanistan: "The Pentagon plans to pay to replace some of the equipment, but the compensation could take several years because of budget constraints."
Imagine having to sleep at night after spending the day providing non-answers like that to serious, legitimate questions.

Can't these fucktards like Christie be sued for slander and possibly libel? Shit! This kinda crap has got to have consequences before it's gonna stop. Just look at the repiglians and their attacks on the Dem nominees. It's repulsive. If we were back in school, I'd kick the crap outta each and every one of 'em.
Clarke, Other Experts Contradict Administration Line on Wiretapping
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/02/national_security_expe...
And they're also not buying the administration line on how crucial it is that the telecoms be granted retroactive immunity for cooperating with the administration's warrantless wiretapping program:
Telecommunications companies will continue to cooperate with lawful government requests, particularly since FISA orders legally compel cooperation with the government. Again, it is unclear to us that the immunity debate will affect our surveillance capabilities....
The Administration has made it clear it believes this entire debate hinges on liability protection. As previously stated, it is unclear that liability protection would significantly improve our surveillance capabilities. It is wrong to make this one issue an immovable impediment to Congress passing strong legislation to protect the American people.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but didn't there used to be some LAWS against no-bid government contracts? Or, at least when a no-bid contract is awarded, there is a transparent documentation of the rationale for awarding it?
Golly!
What a surprise!

I'm secretly hoping that 'President Obama' taps Dick Clarke to be Homeland Security Chief in 2009.
I've watched Countdown nearly every night for many months, but I quit this week. KO's nearly hysterical, unwarranted attacks on Hillary are yet another disgusting example of the "Clinton Rules." I'm voting for Obama, but KO has become just another hack.
Couldn't make it through it.
Maybe I've just insulated myself too much from TV during the last 8 years, but the constant canned musak during Olbermann's piece did me in.
I'm also tired of his tone, although I may agree with his conclusions.
What I want is news delivered by people I have confidence in. I want believable people to deliver news WITHOUT bias.
This, I thought, is what other progressives wanted. This ISN'T what I'm seeing in Keith Olbermann anymore.
Remember, it's not just Americans living through this presidency: the whole world has to. (We should be able to vote, as your president influences all other nations. A world vote. It would be an end to neocons FOREVER.)
We, from Missouri, have heard so many times that John Ashcroft is the son of a minister. So, really, how could he NOT be earning every dollar of that 8 figure, no-bid contract? Yeeeesh! Why, the man is practically a saint. Just ask every repub jerk in my state.
For the record, once again, our Treasury is being looted. By what special skill set does John Ashcroft merit an eight-figure recompense? Who says you can't get rich in Public Service. Look at Ashcroft and Cheney.
I’m not paying for this shit.
John Ashcroft after being beaten in Senate by Gene Carnahan, was just itching to get in a position were he could make tons of money and retire on his pension. Does new AG find anything werong, No because slime all seem to want to roll around with each other like they will be doing in Hell.
