So Hillary Clinton had a net gain of 4 delegates yesterday. Big deal.
Yow! Although you should see it out here in Los Angeles!
why the oil company's love the republicans!
Wow! That's some cheap gas. That guy must not live in Kansas! Makes us feel like suckers. All three dozen of us. :)

Johnny already lost after he won. The guy who sold weapons to those psychos in VA and IL not only has no guilt about it, but thinks students on campuses should be packing heat. The founder of the Weather Channel wants a Scopes-like trial against Gore for his views on global warming.

For the record:
I am not pissed off Hillary did so well yesterday and will hang on and split the Democratic Party leaving it vulnerable for a John McCain victory in November.
I am pissed off Hillary did so well yesterday by using racial images, fear of Muslims and other dirty tricks which in my mind really divide the Democratic Party leaving it vulnerable for a victory in November for John McCain.
mo_dem @ 1:
Her only goal needs to be to keep Obama from having enough of a delegate lead to claim a meaningful mandate at the convention, and thereby ruin the line of argumentation that supers need to follow the will of the people. If there is no clear will of the people, there will be less public backlash against supers in clinton's camp, and thus they will be more willing to support her. They are, after all, just a bunch of politicians!
I think she accomplished that just fine. Plus her big win in Ohio is predictive to some extent of Pennsylvania - the demographics and issues are similar.
3.16 gallon is cheap. Must be nice.
Holy oil company profits, Batman!
Yipes! That's some expensive habit that he's got there... too bad all of America is paying for his addiction too.
Hummer drivers will soon be the only drivers that can AFFORD to pay for any gas.
Holy crap, I was watching a video on youtube and the guy was demonstrating a hummer. At 85 mph the car was consuming 1 gallon per mile. I guess the moron driving the thing can make at least 130 miles with a full tank.
ah but "hummer's help"

I know about the dirty needles in Vegas (since i live here) today i heard the first of what i expect to be a deludge of Lawyer commercials urging you to get in contact with them and sue even if you have not contracted aids or Hepatitis C.

It is a measure of the general lunacy of C&R, Kos, etc that even this diary is hijacked by Obamanals.
Charlieboy @ 17:
Meaning what? Please don't speak in tongues, most of us will not be raptured.
here in the bay area it's $4.11 a gallon, and the fucking hummers abound. thanks arnold, you will be remembered for this contribution to the ecology.
This is an Open Thread. If you have cats and like to talk about them, feel free.
That's nothing, I drive a truck for a living. Try filling up 4 times @ 250 gals each time @ 3.59 avg a gallon just to go from N.J. to CA. FUCK BIG OIL. Maybe soon some people will start to wonder why there isn't any food at the grocery stores or clothes at the mall, etc.
Charlieboy @ 17:
Which thread are you reading?
That sucker would have a stroke in California. It was $3.49 a gallon the last time I gassed up.
Batocchio @ 2:
Yep - the gas prices are insane out here (I'm in Ventura county).
Karen @ 22:
I made a comment. It is my fault. I should have renounced my First Amendment rights before i offended anyone.
I paid $3.39 a gallon today in san diego. I drive a nissan versa that gets pretty good gas mileage and I still can't save any money. I wish I could've afforded to buy a hybrid! Fucking oil companies!
The Senile Saint of Arizona simply represents more of the McSame.
Chris @ 26:
I just got a 2002 Toyota Corrolla and it is getting a little more than $30 a gallon. My mini van was getting 16. Still, when Bush first took office i was spending less on gas.
Geopolitical instability is the main cause of the rise in oil prices. But the rightards blame China.
xoites defends Constitution @ 25:
Heh, I just find it funny that one or two comments against Sen. Clinton constitutes "hijacked by Obamanals."
Makes me glad I got a Prius over Thanksgiving. Filled it up yesterday at $3.15/gallon. It took 8.9 gallons for 429 miles. My wife laughs at me for getting such bad milage when I drive it, because she usually beats 50 mpg.
Both you and the Hummer guy are idiots. Ride a bike.
It took 70 years for the price of a barrel of crude to reach $24.
Bush quadrupled it in 7.
xoites defends Constitution @ 28:
Thirty dollars a gallon? And I thought we had it expensive here in the Bay Area! ;)
Karen @ 27:
Right now we have three possible candidates for President. If Obama wins we will have our first black President. If Hillary wins we will have our first female President, if McCain wins we will have our oldest President.
One of them will replace our whitest President.

I drive over 200 miles a day for a living. When i was on the east coast it was more like 400 to 500 a day.
i take the bus and the metro rail. $60/month.
if9Where5 @ 4:
As is living in Kansas isn't bad enough xD
That Hummer driver is getting off easy. The photo above is proof that America has the cheapest oil in the world outside the ME and maybe Venezuela.
FYI: where I live in Western Canada, gas is $1.17 per liter. That's $4.42 per US gallon in Canadian currency, more than $4.50US.
If the Hummer had been filled at the same pump I used today, he would have paid more than $180 US. $127 is a fucking bargain.
BTW, in the UK, gas prices are equivalent to about $8US per gallon. For Hummer Boy, that's $320 for a 40 gallon fill.
Count your blessings.

Annoyed Canuck @ 40:
you and britain overtax gas for a myriad of reasons...including better rapid transit systems
what is happening here is due to the weakened dollar
we are heading for a recession and possibly a depression
and we have a chimp in charge who likes to make jokes on the wh lawn while rome burns
Annoyed Canuck @ 40:
Yes, but in the UK a lot of that is tax that is used to provide decent Mass Transit. I understand that in Toronto Domino's Pizza delivers pizzas in thirty minutes using metro passes. We have have nothing comparable here to that kind of service.
NewPrius @ 31:
Thats a great comparison to the picture then, as I bet $127.00 gets that guy in the Hummer the same mileage for forty gallons to drive 429 miles.
I hate Hummers, but honestly, all the big assed pickups and SUV's are only a notch above that hog.
Americans love their gas guzzlers, its why I refuse to buy anything new made in the U.S., the Big Three cater to the oil industry and are why electric cars dont exist

odanny @ 44:
I just heard a report on NPR this afternoon that for the forst time in years gas consumption which has risen consistantly in the US in years has declined by 1% in the first quarter this year.
Annoyed Canuck @ 40:
Yep. And frankly, gas prices should just keep going up. I hope it forces innovation, and gets us off oil........eventually.
Ive never liked the rationale that 'at least youre not so-and-so' when things suck....
thats like telling a rape victim 'hey, last week a girl was rape and murdered...dont you feel lucky youre not her?'
as far as the HMV owner, watch the documentary 'who killed the electric car?' to get an example of the kind of tax breaks H2 owner can get if they claim to use it for business (this includes the legally valid usage of showing off to potential clients how successful they are). and it is worth noting that very few HMV are bought and geniune hardcore utility vehicles...most are bought pretty much entirely to say 'fuck you' to everyone else.
i do remember reading a news article about HMV and speedboat owners bragging about how theyre so rich that the price of gas doesnt affect them. so...how hard do you think they'll hit the roof if their taxes are raised to help people who cant afford rising heating costs?
Karen @ 47:
The innovation will have to be huge. Otherwise the price of everything else will go up with it. Everything we consume gets to us by consuming gas. The more gas goes up the more we pay.
We need FREE Mass Transit on a grand scale. Fuck this going to Mars shit.
bluegal,
That is so inconsiderate. Hummer drivers are not the reason gasoline is so expensive in dollars. The reason gasoline is so expensive in dollars is because the value of dollars is so low, due to the Fed's policy of massive inflation of the money supply.
To prove this, just look at the price of gold and the price of oil, and how they changed over the last few years. The price of oil relative to gold is ABSOLUTELY FLAT, i.e. CONSTANT. So even IF people drove hummers, the price of gasoline would be CONSTANT if gold were money.
But because our money is a cheap and worthless paper standard, whose amount can be increased at the click of a key on a PC, the price of not only gasoline, but of ALL goods, rises.
For Christ sake C&L, when are you going to address the problems of inflation due to the Fed? Isn't it about time? There are many "crooks and liars" on TV and in the news who like to divert attention away from this fact, why not call them on it??
[For Christ sake

I think I have something in common with the "terrorists" in Iraq. I want to blow up every Hummer I see on the road.
Drew @ 50:
I am not buying that shit. Gas prices are certainly manipulated and the War in Iraq is screwing our economy, but the amount of gas available and the demand for it drives up the price. The more gas guzzlers on the road the less gas available.
Where did you learn economics?
$3.15 a gallon? you jammy jammy bastards! I'm going to Homewood next time I fill up. It's $3.50 a gallon here in Seatle for mid grade.
And Drew you speak of that which you know nothing. If what you said was true, then gas would cost the same all over the states. I'm 25 miles from refineries and 5 miles from pipelines here in Seattle.
Wrong, as usual, Drew.
Never owned a car myself. The bus went up 10 cents last year, but I figured that was OK. I do take taxis very regularly. Compared with car ownership, taxis are a bargain, and always warm in winter. I walk a lot, too. Best exercise going and it's free.

you lucky, lucky bastard!!

I'm warming up the tar and feathers....I'll meet y'all at Crawford for when Dubya gets back. If anybody every deserved this punishment, it's Bush and Cheney....
You know, I have always owned a 4 cylinder car. I'm 41 and have been driving since I was in high school.
I've never understood wanting to shell out a shitload of cash for the luxury of driving back and forth from one place to another. Even when I used to pay 89 cents a gallon.
My wife and I both own 4 cyl. modern VW's and that's perfectly fine with me.
Half a tank is gone on the new one and we've gone over 180 miles.
And we carpool.
So yea, I get a laugh out of shitheals in their hummers with Bush stickers as well.
Though I certainly feel for those that need to use larger vehicles for work and such..
miss_kitty @ 54:
No, I said OIL is the same price relative to gold, not gasoline. Gasoline is (one of) the final products. By the time it gets to your car or truck, transportation costs and local factors result in slightly different gasoline prices. But OVERALL, there is a rise, there is no question.
Oil production is about the same as it has been since oil was at $30 a barrel. China and India's demand for oil is the only logical factor that can explain increases in oil prices without a corresponding decrease in the prices for other goods. But because the price of oil has increased SO DRAMATICALLY over the last few years, the only way for inflation to NOT be a factor is if the prices of other goods DECREASED, on account of people having less money left over after having paid so much for oil. But because the prices of ALL goods are rising, the ONLY explanation can be an increase in the overall amount of money and spending. This last can only come into existence if there is more money in existence, meaning the Fed MUST have printed more money. It's simple supply and demand analysis used for the whole economy. Look at the prices of commodities, they are shooting through the roof. Look at the statistics for M1, M2 and M3 money supplies (before the Fed discontinued M3 because it was too embarrasing to show). They are rising REALLY fast. More money that is printed means more demand overall. That's why prices are rising.
This isn't just my opinion incidentally, many (intelligent) economists are saying the same exact thing.
Why are the talking head analyzing Hillary's wins?
They talk about her ho-hum answer to Sen. Obama religion, her 3am terror attack ad, her campaign spending (not much) etc. They want to know why Sen. Clinton won tx and oh.
Obama spent 3-4 times more money than Hillary. He knew these states were Hillary's country. But if you look at the numbers, Hillary didn't win by a landside.
Go Obama!
miss_kitty @ 64:
Well they are, are they not?
Being in a war, especially a war like the one in Iraq means human beings, to survive, have to stay angry all the time to survive. It raises their adreneline level which keeps them alert and able to surmount extrordinary challenges. that is what Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome is all about. In order to stay alive you get angry and stay angry. Day in and day out. (Hence the puppy.) When you leave the battlefield you can't just turn it off like it was a switch for the bathroom light. But here you are back in a safe place pissed as all hell and noone understands. That pisses you off even more.
I moved from San Francisco to Sydney Australia last year. Gas in Sydney is currently $5.59 USD per gallon. Mortgage loan rate is ~9%.

Soldiers in Iraq are killing puppies, raping women and children, and torturing civilians. It will only get worse. Know why? Because the torturing of humans has now been accepted as just, in the eyes of the state and the media, and for many civilians here as well. Since people accept that torturing of humans is OK, killing puppies seems like not so big of a deal anymore.
I am heartbroken how bad things are getting; how morals and ethics, our very roadmaps to proper and civilized action, are becoming passe. This is big empire government in action folks, and it has been predicted by liberal (classical liberal) philosophers over a hundred years ago. There is NO excuse for those who become evil like that.
Dehumanization occurs when the message of liberty (individual freedom and hence respect) is lost.
The H2 has a 32 gallon tank. I'm not sure what the H3 has, but if it's 40 then there you have the philosophical Hummer owner mindset fix for a vehicle with shitty mileage, a bigger tank.

Auto Accident Facts:
There were an estimated 6,420,000 cars involved in accidents in the US in 2005. The cost of these accidents exceeds 230+ Billion dollars. There were about 2.9 million injury cases and 42,636 car accident deaths. An average of 115 persons die each day in motor vehicle crashes in the United States -- one every 13 minutes. According to the World Health Organization about 3000 people die in crashes each day worldwide.
Now i think i should be able to consider myself reasonably safe from being killed by an automobile on the second floor of my house 400 yards from the road. With flying cars that concept goes right out the window.

odanny @ 44:
You know the irony? Almost everything on the road gets 20-28 mpg these days. Everything is over-powered and suffers with poor economy.
. .. Ironically, the Detroit cars with the 3.8 v6 are now getting about the same mileage as almost every Honda/Toyota/Etc.... Outside the Civic and Corolla. Yes American cars are consistently less.. what I have noticed the last few years is that American cars have gotten SSSLLLOOOOWWWLLLYYYY better (both in quality and mileage) while Japanese cars are getting less and less fuel efficent and require Premium for those variable valve timing engines. Forget Korea.. Korean cars have always sucked (look at the Aveo! Crappy little car gets 30 mpg!) .. oh no.... here comes the "my Elantra gets 34 mpg...!!!"
I am not saying they AmCars are great... just pointing out that they are not much less anymore and usually run on Regular unleaded. 'Course what happened to all the 30+ mpg cars od the 80's?
My Dad's 87 Integra still gets 38 mpg and is quite powerful for a 1.6 lt 4-cylinder! What has happened since ....?

Welcome to FUH2.com, home of the official Hummer H2 salute. So...why all the fuss? Well, it breaks down like this:
* The H2 is the ultimate poseur vehicle. It has the chassis of a Chevy Tahoe and a body that looks like the original Hummer; i.e. it's a Chevy Tahoe in disguise.
* The H2 is a gas guzzler. Because it has a gross vehicle weight rating over 8500 lbs, the US government does not require it to meet federal fuel efficiency regulations. Hummer isn't even required to publish its fuel economy (owners indicate that they get around 10 mpg for normal use). So while our brothers and sisters are off in the Middle East risking their lives to secure America's fossil fuel future, H2 drivers are pissing away our "spoils of victory" during each trip to the grocery store.
* The H2 is a polluter. Based on G.M.'s optimistic claim that it gets13 mpg, an H2 will produce 3.4 metric tons of carbon emissions in a typical year, nearly double that of G.M.'s Chevrolet Malibu sedan.
* The H2 is a death machine. You'd better hope that you don't collide with an H2 in your economy car. You can kiss your ass goodbye thanks to the H2's massive weight and raised bumpers. Too bad you couldn't afford an urban assault vehicle of your own. Or could you...?
* The H2 is a tax loophole. Under the current tax laws, business owners can deduct nearly half the cost of their H2s. If you are in the highest tax bracket, that's a tax savings of nearly $10,000! The government rewards you more savings for buying an H2 than you'd get for buying an electric car.
"I don't give a shit about the planet, I am an American! If i want to throw trash out of my car window, I will! If i want to consume more so others have less, I will! Fuck you namby pamby bleeding heart Liberals with you big ideas for a better world! I GOT MINE! FUCK YOU!"

You're right. But this occupation is different because now WE THE PEOPLE know about it. But society is not rejecting it, because we are being screwed economically, which was the plan all along. When people are scrounging to make a living, they have less time to worry about liberty, morality, and other "leisure" type pondering of human nature. This is why rich nations, i.e. prosperous nations, can have the time to produce moral and beneficial theories of liberty and ethics.
Socieities in decline always become restless and bickering becomes more pronounced. Fear rises, panic sets in, and all the while the economy is being set up for a MAJOR collapse of catastrophic proportions. I think maybe only 1% of the population knows that our way of life is going to come to an abrupt end in our lifetime. Our economy is consumer driven, for a number of reasons, the most important of which is the mainstream intellectuals poisoning the academic environment. They overwhelmingly think that the key to economic success is to "stimulate consumer demand", ignoring the fact that real consumer demand COMES from, and is created by, SAVING, not consuming, as contradictory as it sounds.
All of our consumption, be it on gasoline, groceries, cars, houses, you name it, EVERYTHING comes from DEBT, i.e. BORROWED money from foreigners. None of it comes from real savings, because savings have been systematically attacked for over 3 generations by government and fed interventions that destroy the incentive to save voluntarily. I hate to be the one who has to say this, but no matter who gets elected next year, if our monetary system stays intact, this country's money unit, the dollar, is going to be destroyed. Future generations are going to write stories about how the Amero currency came to be.

Hi Tyree. :)
Don't worry, he will get older and eat the neihbors. :)

I've pretty much had to park my ten year old compact that gets 39.4 mpg on the highway just because some don't give a f%#k fat bastards are going to drive their battleship sized SUVS no matter what, just because they can afford to. Bite me, rich boy!

Don't tempt me to get started on how much jets contribute to global warming. At least the pilots are very well trained and regulated. Have you driven any distance recently? Can you imagine the 200 million flying cars overhead?
xoites defends Constitution @ 105:
What fantasy of America do YOU live in? Don't you know the Bill of Rights was "enhanced":
1st amendment: "The right of the Christians shall not be... " and all other rights are "subservient to corporate interest"
2nd amendment: Deleted clause, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, "
3rd Amendment: Unchanged.
4th Amendment: deleted
5th Amendment: deleted DUH!
6th Amendment: deleted
7th Amendment: deleted
8th Amendment: Added, "Determination of what is cruel made by Corporate Interest..."
9th Amendment: Re-drafted to: The right to rape pillage and steal from anyone non-American (including Mother Earth except as owned by Corporate Interest) shall not be infringed." (directed at Hummer owners)
10th Amendment: Added, "The phrase 'people' shall mean "Corporate Interests."
Check! Your Democratic Senator voted for this Republican Amendment!
Oh, flying car bombs. Now there is a concept!
Or just a drunk or a pissed off "sky rage" incident once an hour every day.

All i got is Harry Reid. I am not entirely sure he is a Democrat.

Jets don't contribute to global warming. It's a hoax.
Earth has cooled so much in recent years that the last 100 years of warming has been erased!

Report: Clinton Camp At Heart Of NAFTA-Gate
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/03/05/canada-obama.html?ref=rss
.....Brodie allegedly also discussed musings by Obama's Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, saying people from her camp also told Canadians to take her NAFTA concerns with a grain of salt.
CTV News went to air with the information on Feb. 27, focusing on the Obama side of the story, and it caused an uproar in the United States. Clinton accused Obama of double-talk, while the Republican front-runner and now nominee, John McCain, said Obama wasn't a straight-talker.
They say Obama will start to go negative now. I hate that but I guess it's what gets attention. I just hope he sticks to the truth unlike HRC.
Can he attack without being called sexist? Is that fair? Will she cry that the mean man is picking on her because she is a woman?
I saw the darkened photo. I saw the "As far as I know" interview. I heard her say McCain was better than Obama. Now this.
All her speeches are me me me.
The pundits and idiots keep saying how tough she is and she can play hardball. Is that what she was doing when she pointed her finger and said "Shame on you Obama", or was she having a bitch fit like bush does when he doesn't get his way?
Is this what you want in your President?
Hello everyone. The oil is not gone . The control of oil production is in the hands of a few corporations. Iraq still is not able to produce what it was before we invaded Iraq. Oil is up 3+ times what it was in 2000. Gas is up to 2.5 times what it was in 2000. Oil companies are making profits higher than any other corporations ever. It's not the supply of oil, It's who controls the supply of oil. something like what Stalin said about voting.
that is still nothing compared to what we pay in Europe per liter NOT gallon. ok hopefully you know how many liters are in a gallon
Janet @ 130:
If the press doesn't pick up on this, it will turn out it was the media offering Clinton another pillow. I'm sorry, this is a 100% case of Clinton accusing others of what she was doing herself. You don't get a more credible news source in Canada than the CBC.
xoites defends Constitution @ 128:
Wait, what?
Me or the article describing 4 independent studies, including NASA??
some1 @ 132:
The problem is Europe does not rely on fuel to run its economy like the US does. They have been investing in efficient means of transportation for the last one hundred years. America has been overly dependant on the automobile since Eisenhower. The rise in gas prices will be our downfall.
xoites defends Constitution @ 128:
hEH. actually Jets do contribute to climate change. This was proven during the 'no fly' time following 9/11. I can't remember which way. I think it contribute to Solar dimming, which is offset by global warming. And global warming offsets solar dimming-So far. So Far. Jets DO fuck with climate.
Dimming of the Sun
Drew is full of it though...
Drew @ 134:
NASA is not independant. Bush has fired people in NASA for talking about global warming. Where have YOU been?
It costs $385 to fill a Hummer in the UK and people still drive them!!!
IS this another scam of Hillarys to win over undecideds? Is it just a ploy?
Everyone's buzzing about Hillary's "superticket" talk today. Clearly that's a strategic campaign move for her, and is in no way a part of her oft-hidden gracious nature. If she can convince enough people that it's a strong possibility for her to choose Obama as VP, she can stem the flow of on-the-fencers and cause them to lean her way. Because with her, they get a chance at having it both ways! And that's a guiltless, easy win-win choice for an undecided voter to make. Conversely, Obama hasn't mentioned her as a possibility, which could start hurting him when it comes down the undecideds he's got to move in the coming primaries.

Janet @ 139:
Yeah, i heard her hint at that today. I did not believe a word of it.
APupdated 5:10 a.m. PT, Wed., Oct. 27, 2004
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Bush administration is trying to stifle scientific evidence of the dangers of global warming in an effort to keep the public uninformed, a NASA scientist said Tuesday night.
“In my more than three decades in government, I have never seen anything approaching the degree to which information flow from scientists to the public has been screened and controlled as it is now,” James Hansen told a University of Iowa audience.
Hansen is director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York and has twice briefed a task force headed by Vice President Dick Cheney on global warming. He was also one of the first government scientists tasked with briefing congressional committees on the dangers of global warming, testifying as far back as the 1980s.
As IF i had to actually go fucking look for it.
How low will she go? Pander much?

“This is a time to remember the victims of the Katyn massacre and also to reflect on the importance of remembrance itself. Only by preserving the memory of past inhumanities can we hope to avoid inhumanity in the future. Only by seeking the truth about the past can we be confident about our pursuit of peace and justice today.
Hey Hillary, lets not wait 68 years to seek the truth. How about promising to investigate bush NOW.
Janet @ 143:
Will she, like McCain, promise no investigations into Bush's misdeeds?
xoites defends Constitution @ 137:
Oh...
So what about the other three?
Janet @ 139:
I have to say the superticket idea doesnt bother me like it used to, but the fact is that by say this Clinton just moved into stage four of the grief of her loss
Denial "Those states dont matter"
Anger "Shame on you Obama!"
Bargaining "well I guess we could share the ticket?"
Depression - coming soon
Acceptance - coming soon, for the best of the Party
Drew @ 145:
I disproved your NASA bullshit and now i have to track down proof on the other three?
Hell no i don't!
You used one bad sourse, your most "reliable" source. I don't have to track down every lunatic you can come up with after that.
I heard an interview with HRC today where she said the Superdelegates should vote on experience and not the popular vote.
Didn't we get cheated on the popular vote before? Whatever happened with that? Oh yeah we got over a million dead Iraqis
thanks to the unpopular one. Do we really want to go there again? If the popular vote doesn't count this time I will never vote
again.
Batocchio @ 2:
My thoughts exactly. It only takes about 15 gallons to fill my car, but I don't pay $3.16 per gallon.
Drew @ 145:
I think it's safe to assume that if one of your sources is bullshit-and it's the one you cite highly, the rest are time wasters.
Get over yourself dude. You don't know that much.
