Living a Republican War

CNN's Kyra Phillips speaks to some Iraqi soldiers about the U.S. presidential election and democracy in Iraq. While they spoke enthusiastically about the American soldiers teaching them discipline and how to effectively combat their enemies in Iraq, the soldiers were less effusive in their praise for those managing the war and their plans for bringing about democracy. Phillips tried in vain to locate any McCain supporters among the group.

"Just to be perfectly clear here, I did ask them are you following any of the republican candidates?...Do you want to talk about John McCain? Within that whole group, not one wanted a republican in the US presidential seat. They were all for a democrat. They were all for that type of change because they said they were living a republican war."

McCain arrived in Baghdad on Sunday, with his BFF's Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham, where they'll no doubt provide yet another upbeat assessment of the amazing progress going on.

Just in time for the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion, presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain made an unannounced visit to Iraq. Unfortunately for him, this week's anniversary highlights that at almost every turn, John McCain has been disastrously wrong about Iraq.

For a catalog of McCain's erroneous statements, see:
"Forever Wrong: Five Years of John McCain on Iraq."

Living a republican war, like us here in the U.S., but too many are dying in the republican war, as well.

Wow...now THAT'S a ringing endorsement if I ever heard one...

This will be spun to say the "insurgents" want a Democrat in the White House. Just watch.

Oh they're going to have to shut these people up because it goes against the Muslims don't liek women meme

And why didn't they let us here why the guy wanted Obama?

Ya that's proof Al-KKayda supports Obama and the Democrats....

These terrorist in the video clearly....wait a minute these were Iraqi soldier trained by the US to hunt terrorist....sh*t

Also, did you notice how even the Iraqi Army who is our Ally in Iraq, is sick of living under Bush...

Damn liberal media!!!

Prava-Lite, as usual, has NO CLUE....Maybe they need to get out of Atlanta someday and go get the talking points directly from their owner - Ailes.

What fools...

Amazing. They actually asked the **Iraqis**? I wasn't aware that members of the punditocracy even cared about them, let alone was willing to ask them for their opinions.

For the amazing amount of progress Republicans constantly praise it of having made, Iraq should be some kind of fucking Shanrgi-La by now.

God, War, Cheap Eats, and Nascar

The soldiers telling the truth..."Republican War".

"They were all for that type of change because they said they were living a republican war.”

At first glance I thought it said, "They were all for that type of change because they said they were living with a republican whore.”

I thought maybe some of them were shacking up with Malkin or Coulter or something...

So Iraqis do not want US military to stay in their country for a hundred years?

Pull Halliburton out, the troops can stay,-- if we send in the Home Make Over team! Give them the money we give Hall and KBR in one week and let's see what Ty and the team can pull off!

In all honesty, if we stopped bombing and shooting and had a real Marshall Plan in force, maybe we would be treated as liberators and be given flowers. Let's forget about "taking" towns and just start MAKING the towns we have. I think the Iraqis would come on board if they saw us helping and not killing them.

McCain does know they can't vote for him in Iraq, right?

First, let me say that if Lieberman and Graham are McCain's best friends, doesn't say much for his judgement. Two of the greasiest scumbags in congress. Sorry but I thought McCain had more sense than that. But maybe those two are the only ones who will be his best friends. A thought.

OMG, now I've got the headline stuck in my head to the tune of "Material Girl"

Some wars bomb and some invade
and sometimes it's a gas,
But every war it sometimes ends
and this just lasts and lasts

We can beg and we can plead
but these troops never go (oh no)
Cause Kellogg Root makes cold hard cash
And Cheney runs the show-ow

[Chorus]
Oh we are living in a Republican war,
I'm missing the Republican Guard,
Oh yes we are living in a Republican war,
And no one knows just what they're here for.

Some U.S. troops keep to themselves,
and some give our kids candies.
The trigger-happy troublemakers?
Blackwater mercenaries.

The Kurds and Christians, Sunni's, Shi'a's
We all got along,
But now we are all segregated
And what did we do wrong?

[Chorus]

[Chorus]

Living in a Republican war.

The U.S. troops have lost four thousand
and that is truly tragic,
But simply counting all our losses
that would take some magic.

Oh we are dying in a Republican war,
I'm missing the Republican Guard,
Oh yes we are dying in a Republican war,
And no one knows just what they die for.

A Republican. A Republican. A Republican war.

Boston Globe Editorial: NEARLY FIVE years since the start of the Iraq war, the Bush administration is still funding much of it through emergency appropriations, and only partially through the regular defense budget. This is one of several ways in which the administration has managed to hide the true cost of the war from the American people. Until Congress insists on a full and open accounting, the nation won't know how much of a drag it is on the economy. 3/16BuzzFlash

Wow I bet all the Corporate News people, all the 'political editors' stationed at their key posts at the various propaganda outlets like NBC, CBS, ABC, and the rest of them, must have run to put on extra strength DEPENDS in order to deal with this degree of honesty. What the fuck they have not only taken Iraq off the news, but of course been peddling that 'the surge is working' in order to get their Corporate Boy McCain installed as the next president. At least the stockholders of DEPENDS will make a killing today.

I watched this being shown as an ad-on to BBC. Kyra was right on the point and not one wanted a Republican, they all said, "We already know they are bad. so we want something different" To a man.

And yet the news polls are saying that McCain is neck and neck with either Democrat running. This is your press at work, they own the polls and they are owned by the likes of Ruppert Murdoch etc.

Feel like your being played?

Seriously folks, it is easy to poke fun of an OBVIOUS TRAIN WRECK that this administration has been, but we MUST NOT allow this administration to get away with what they have done. It would be every bit as paramount a catastrophe to allow that as it was to have allowed them to railroad a war down the throat of the world. WE MUST IMPEACH!

Is a Republican war anything like...

I like the chandeliers.

I'm kind of surprised the troops didn't just up and leave when they realized they were being used as pawns in a game where only the masters profit while they risk life and limb.

Oh and Lieberman isn't BFF with McCain. He's more like BFN (Best Friends for Now). When McCain loses the elections Lieberman will be looking for another horse to ride. It's his modus operandi. He can't help it.

Now this is an issue that deserves 24/7 conversation. 12 billion dollars a month to finance this immoral waste of time, blood and treasure. Those numbers make me dizzy. And McCain wants more of this bullshit. I can't wait until November.

clintons connection to blackwater is not discussed. her public relations group are the same people who coached the blackwater chief before his congressional hearings.

I do believe this is a bit skewed against Obama simply because he presented enough of a platform to analyze and criticize.
Hillary dodges the bullet by not elaborating on her own promise. Thankfully, Scahill doesn't really let her off the hook.

Scahill was quite evenhanded in his summation of the duplicity of the candidates' positions with respect to bringing an end to the war.

President McCain, Secy of Defense Lieberman and AG Lindsey Graham - (the Three Stooges). Makes my blood run cold at the thought of what these three could do to our Country.

You have to be kidding yourselves if you really think that this "Iraqi Army" is really an Army.

After we leave, they are just going to start killing themselves. Unfortunately, that is the way things are in the Middle East. If you don't believe me, read today's news about a suicide bomber killing 32. This will never stop. If Middle Eastern people want to keep killing themselves, that is fine, just don't get any of our American soldiers over there killed.

The Iraqis are right on the money. The failures have always been with the Republicans themselves. The Republicans need to face the facts that they are much better at ruining a nation than building one and the Iraqis see that. The Democrats on the other hand are much better equiped and have more social policies that are able to handle a situation of this magnitude. The U.S. military has and continues to do what it has been trained to do. The U.S. military personnel (especially infantry, armor, etc.) have no training in setting up the political, social or economic framework that has been failing miserably in Iraq. Those tasks simply are not their job. They fight wars, period. A combat soldier can teach another soldier combat tactics and security because that is what he was trained to do. If you ask that same soldier to set up a stock exchange or health care system you will get a blank stare right back at you.

Cheney visits Iraq, says US must stay

Cheney's motorcade zigzagged through Baghdad to meetings as helicopter gunships circled overhead. Explosions were heard in parts of the city, but none were near the vice president.

"There is still a lot of difficult work that must be done," Cheney said after sitting down with Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, the leader of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council and one of the most powerful politicians in the country.

"But as we move forward, the Iraqi people should know that they will have the unwavering support of President Bush and the United States in consolidating their democracy," Cheney said.

Fu*K You Buddy!

Sadly but true, none of the soliders can vote.

Bush admin and his cohorts in the army, navy and airforce, has made sure that soldiers will have a hard time to vote this election.

Only senior NCO officers who show their oath to the Bush admin can vote easily, the rest, they will have to go through hurdles in order to vote.

So completely true as to MSM failing to report current conditions in Iraq. In fact on
the Yahoo New yesterday(Reuters) there was a report by the ICRC(International Committee of the Red Cross) that says that the civilians/natives of Iraq are now facing
the worse situation of ALL times as to clean drinking water and medical facilities to
provide care for the sick/injured. But, do we see this kind of report by the MSM? Hell
"NO"...instead they report how wonderfully well the Surge is going...and you can be sure

propoganda. The MSM, being owned/controlled by BIG business is downright dishonest
and deceitful and misleading in it's reporting of the "facts on the ground". They should
be, but are not, ashamed of the lies reported.

I wonder if some of the question was lost in translation. I could see Iraqis being puzzled about this American reporter asking if they support a Republican candidate when they clearly remember Saddam and his Republican Guard.

At the same time, Kyra almost sounds like she was trying to lead them into saying something positive to bolster McCain's 'fact-finding' trip, or Cheney's little 'surprise visit'.

Having Dick 'Go F*** Yourself' Cheney come in to pitch political unity is like asking China to head up a commission on human rights.

And for the record. The "Civil war" (if one can call it that) that has taken place in the occupied territories since 2007 is a result of U.S. meddling. Vanity Fair has a good article about it, describing how the U.S. supports one war lord against the elected government in hopes of brining it down and replacing it with a puppet president.

http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/04/gaza200804

There is also evidence that the U.S. is responsible for starting sectarian violence in Iraq. I'll have to dig up the information I had and post it, but it's pretty obvious who's benefiting.

You are correct. In fact, its been proven that they were selling weapons to both sides during the Iran/Iraq war. Rumsfeld's meeting with Saddam in 1983 was a clear indication of those deals. If the Regan Administration didn't actually sell the chemical weapons to Saddam, they sure as hell know who did and they know who actually used them against the Kurds. This is a bi-partisan war. It was lead by the right wing but it is a product of crony bi-partisan war profiteering, our economy depends on war to function now and it sadly creates a lot of jobs and wealth. The Democrats voted for it and many former Democrats are on the boards of defense companies & consulting firms making hand over fist in this war. It's, like usual, an elite war, and none of the Democrats would have taken back their vote for the war if it didn't cost so much money and American lives. The Democrats are not standing in the way, they're actually on the whole calling for it, of the privatization of Iraq's oil, even though the vast majority of Iraqis are against it.

However, the looting of Iraq thanks to Bremer and the CPA were under a Republican admin and those policies, besides being horribly inept, were immoral and have caused much of the violence against US soldiers. They've also destroyed the Iraqi economy and handed it over to foreign interests.

Yeah, he might mean that we'll keep the present bases but not build any new ones.

I hope if the Bush junta decides to declare martial law that the split is about the same in the military as regards who will disobey and side with the American People versus who will salute the Fuhrer and be a good little brown shirt.

Where are the Bob Dylans of this generation, or do we first need a draft?

When are we gonna get topless news?

Just no Willard Scott or Bryant Gumbel, puhleeeze!

McCain's problem is the old "If the only tool you know is a hammer, then every problem looks like a nail" concept. All he sees is military solutions so all the problems present themselves to him as solveable through military force. If this guy gets elected we will be in Iraq, Iran and Afghanastan simultaneously. Well, that sounds almost, well, by gosh, I'll say it, that sounds so romantic!!

We get it. The spin will be a diametrically opposite conclusion. Something like, "terrorists for Obama" (or Clinton, if you like). They won't distinguish between insurgent or Iraqi army, just all "brown" "rag heads". Know what I mean?

I'm stunned and also OUTRAGED at the clip. The average American has no idea how the Iraqis feel because of the constant propaganda by the Bush pigs. McCain and Bush tell us that Al Quaida is praying for Democrats to win and then "surrender". WTF?!! The Iraqi people have said in polls again and again that they want the US forces to LEAVE Iraq immediately. Now they openly say they support the Democratic candidates and not the Republicans. Where is the fucking media? This should be a blue light flashing bold headline on Drudge. Goddam I am pissed.

Yes this is a republican war owned and operated that's why it's so fucked up.
have you ever seen anything a republican did that wasn't fucked up?
Anything?

I do believe that I've found a way to get the troops home. If someone could just penetrate the information vacuum that protects George from knowledge and showed him that video of Iraqis supporting democratic candidates the troops would be on their way back before the tantrum was over.

I haven't seen or heard a thing about it today. Of course, I didn't see or hear a thing about it 20 years ago when Reagan was up to his incompetent Iran/Contra ass trying to cover his tracks. The sclm didn't make a fuss about it then, either.

If I'm not mistook...weren't Cheney and Rumsfelt the ones behind the DOD deal to sell Saddam the mustard gas he used on the Kurds? Waaay back when.

The intelligence agencies around the globe may provide bad intelligence from time to time but its not THAT bad.

I'm not surprised that Saddam was found guilty and hanged without much of a trial. He might have had a thing to say about who supplied the gas that killed the Kurds at Hallabjah.

Not that I support Pelosi. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are the enablers of Bush and GOP. They represent the worst Democratic congressional leadership (or leadershit) in the history of this country.

Both Al Gore and John Kerry "cut and run" from Bush during both presidential elections. I am sure when Hillary becomes the presidential candidate that she will "cut and run" from John "Insane" Sydney McCain. I am sure I can count on the Democrats to "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" this fall.

When the interviewer heard one of the soldiers say he was for Obama, she practically had an orgasm.
Watch the video if you don't believe me.

I think it was unfair not to interview any of the war profiteers, including Iraqis, in the Green Zone. I am sure she would have found some support for the "Republican War".

Good point...though even if he'd been able to implicate Rumsfelt and Cheney in that mustard gas deal...the GOP spin machine (aka fox news) would have just poo-pooed anything that Saddam may have said.

I'm just surprised that Ms. Phillips did not do her best, earnest "but do they understand Operation Iraqi Freedom?" routine like she did in the beginning when she was interviewing the doctor treating that little boy who got his limbs blown off by the "Shock and Awe" campaign
