"What's the Committee to Re-Invade Vietnam!?"

The whole episode was chock full of great political jokes about the GOP. Check out NBC's Video Rewind to see the full thing.

I can only think of a handful of GOP supporting celebrities, and the only one who might be considered cool is Angie Harmon.

There is absolutely nothing cool about being Republican. Dull, self absorbed, bores. I wouldn't want to have a beer with any of you cocksuckers.

Wilford Brimley, Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart Simpson), Chad Everett, Kelsey Grammer, and Larry The Cable Guy. A listers for sure.

Even so this clip is dismal. Rotten writing and worse acting. Smug and self-satisfied. Gives liberals a bad name.

I guess the Dixie Chicks wouldn't be on the A-list.

Most country singers would qualify.

I'm not saying people have to give up TV and The Net but it's turned into an electronic leash-ankle collar we need to cut lose of rather then a tool for progress.

I agree. Comedy is easy in your mind but difficult to pull off. The ideas were right but I didn't even snicker. It's still ten times funnier than the half hour snooze hour though.

I seldom watch tv at night and from what I see, I'm not missing much.

The ads for some of the night time shows look frightening as hell. Graphic pictures of people murdered in horrific ways and all sorts of stuff. None for me thanks.

I'm proud to say I haven't watched TV since '98 (except when it's inflicted on me which isn't often). The internet is far more entertaining and exponentially more educational.

The pathology goes deep and it would probably take a couple thick books to really cover it.

But just to get started:

* Fear of almost everything including fear that a brown person may be better than they are.
* Ignorance of most things (which is where a lot of intolerance comes from).

The MSM, newspapers and mainstream television are running into fierce headwinds from competition based on the internet and niche news operations that meet specialized needs.

It's a good thing, but people are still going to have to work at some point. I mean they don't have to if thats what they choose to do but sitting at the Computer 24/7 isn't going to accomplish much.

Having been in the Tech business (professional evangelist) all during the 90's I expected too much and I am really disappointed the interconnectivity and potential of this technology has stalled at Youtube, myspace, gossip, and stuff like that. Thats okay though I have to accept that commercial and corporate interests pretty much are dominating it and milking it for every dime they can and there's not much I can do to change that trend right now.

I could just wear blinders so I don't have to be witness to seeing this country crumbling before my very eyes.

But there comes a point when that doesn't even help.

I'll agree that the vast majority of television programing is rotten to the core, but it's hard for me to blame the medium. 30 Rock is one of the few programs I watch on commercial television any longer, but there's a wide array of quality on PBS. My local PBS showed back-to-back episodes of The American Experience Monday night (biographies of Buffalo Bill Cody and Walt Whitman), and I actually learned something. Add Frontline, Nova and Masterpiece Theater- and guilty pleasure Antiques Roadshow- and I think you could say that we are capable of being better.

Now what motivates the majority of Americans to embrace and hones their capabilities is beyond me, but I'm pretty sure that Survivor isn't helping.

Oh, and if these guys weren't watching TV, how would they know to find the clips of Olbermann, Colbert, Stewart, etc.. C&L made it's bones posting video grabbed from TV, don'tcha know?

The closest I can think of to a "cool Republican celebrity" is probably Ah-nold.

BaddogLtd's picture

Cool Republicans? Never heard of one with the exception of Johnny Ramone.
Creative Republicans? Naw...to be creative you have to have an imagination and that's not in the nature of the conservative. If they could imagine what it's like to be black, gay, female, muslim, poor, etc....they wouldn't be Republicans.
Which is why it's so easy for them to attack "Hollywood" while their own Conservapedia version of Tinsel Town hacks up angry windbags like O'reilly, Coulter, Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingram, Miller, etc....
Yup, THAT kind of celebrity is somehow different because...well...uhmmmm.....

Cool Republicans? You know the George Carlin gag....it's like Jumbo Shrimp.

I once heard an athlete say the main reason that many pro sports stars latch on to conservative BS is because "It's hard to be mad at what's going on when you get a two hundred thousand dollar pay check each month."

As some others have said, it is a bit smug and self-satisfied. It's also preachy which is all too often the case with progressive comedy writing.

Still, Tim Conway has a guest spot which is really, really funny and not at all political. I haven't seen him in years and it was great to see that he hasn't lost his chops.

The GOP wouldn't be what it is without decades of Democratic Party enabling. My own House Rep., Lynn Woolsey, conceded as much yesterday when she acknowledged that the Democratic Party will do nothing to end the Iraq War and have pretty much folded in the face of GOP threats to tar them as unpatriotic.

So, easy to make fun of Republicans but they're a team with the Democrats, just like Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Bush and Cheney.

Think about it: Athletes, since their first t-ball swing or Pop Warner run are conditioned from early on to follow their coach(es) and ONLY their coach(es). It's a one way street with the coach calling all the shots, as any kind of non-adherence to him or her simply isn't tolerated. It's an environment simply not conducive to an open exchange of dialogue or ideas, as it is ULTIMATELY the coach who calls all the shots. One falls in place and simply follows what the coach says as their (the players) thinking, tactics, and strategy is all done for them. "My team and coach, right or wrong!" is a hard line stance not compatible with an open, liberal mind. Also at work is this attitude that one must do everything and anything to defeat their opponent on all phases at all costs -- sportsmanship has its limits, folks, as giving your opponent a break, any break, simply isn't part of the game. They grow up with that mindset, but only the team has now been replaced by such things as the flag, taxes, nativism, immigration issues, security, etc. Anyone who would dare take pause, reflect, and question, the good ol' red, white, and blue's motives or actions, is simply complicating things and isn't a team player, therefore un-American.

Now, for my take on why most in Hollywood are liberal minded ... Oh, nevermind. That is much lengthier to explain.

That was my Freud at work. ;)

POdVet's picture

Chuck Norris definitely cool and undoubtedly an A lister, and sadly a republican. But the bigger question is why anyone cares what Alec Baldwin thinks? He's an idiot, has always been an idiot, and probably always will be an idiot! This is the same moron who said the jerk off who was behind Bill Clinton's impeachment should be taken out and stoned to death along with his wife and kids! Now while I agree the guy was a complete immoral ass, spouting off that someones wife and children should be murdered because you don't like their politics is a definite sign of mental instability. Add this to the multiple instances of his ranting, including his oh so loving phone call to his own daughter and you can see a clear pattern of behavior. If he wasn't a celebrity this guy would have been court ordered to take anger management classes if not institutionalized by now.

Jocks are kind of dopey and have a bit of cruelty about them (just ask any kid who was considered a "geek" in high school). The Repubs are the perfect party for them.

Mind you, there are a few exceptions to the rule, like John Amaechi.

Oh, I get it. When the GOP is mocked, it's clever political satire. When any negative comment is even attempted on a democrat, it's a mean-spirited, uncalled for attack. No wonder you - never mind
