What an elitist old fool.

It's an excellent ad!

All the Democrats need to do is keep pointing out the strong connection between McCain and Bush, as well as keep McCain's lurching proclamations that change every day and his volatile temper before the voters, and McCain becomes pitiable, not presidential.

The only way to defeat this right wing wacko is to destroy his character.

The DNC has not realized this tactic yet but notice the right wing uses it each and every election cycle.

Its time to stop playing nice with the conservatives!!

Today one of McCain's lapdogs stated that Obama is a new politician with old ideas. that's odd, as McCain is the consummate washington experienced insider, and also old. so, lapdog, if there's anyone this country doesn't need is more of the confirmed 'same old same old. for you know with McCain, everything old is still old. and that includes ideas.

Can someone explain to me how the last statistic compares to population growth? Does the number of jobs lost appear smaller when compared to a larger population?

Ever since Ronald Reagan famously asked Americans in 1980 if they were better off now than four years ago, answering the question has been a pre-requisite for aspiring White House hopefuls. This week, Republican nominee John McCain twice tried to supply a response when asked about the eight years of the Bush economy. His changing answers of "yes" and "no" on consecutive days set a new flip-flopping record, even for John McCain.

For the details, see:
"McCain's 24 Hour Flip-Flop on the Bush Economy."

This sinile old fart better not pack, he ain't going near the White House. I see the glass half full; America won't f**k this up again, and the only scenario (from hell by the way) that this person becomes president would be if they cheat again or SCOTUS "divinely" appoint him.

Wingnut cap on/

Facts?!!! Logic?!!! Only sissy weenie boys use that!!!

/Wingnut cap off.

I agree with Motorfingaz in post #3, it's the only way to beat the Repub attack machine.

That seems to be McCain's line, "some people argue" or "you could argue." It's sort of a way to flip flop out of what you say. You could later say, "I didn't that the economy is good, I said you could argue that it is."

I have a question perhaps someone on here could answer. Um, the US government is bailing out it's banks. England is bailing out it's banks. Nations involved with Iraqi invasion are in financial turmoil. Yet, government leaders from these nations all say the same thing---- that it is not "war" related......well, then is this just some sheer coinkydink that every nation involved in this fiasco just happens to all have banks with the exact same bad judgements? I smell a big ass rich corporate rat.

This ad is only half finished.

As Furious (is that you Jon?) notes above, McCain more recently answered the "better off" question saying that "Americans are not better off than they were eight years ago."

Tack that quote onto the end of this ad and you've got something really powerful.

News Corpse, The Internet's Chronicle Of Media Decay.

It looks good to me, but you're preaching to the choir here.

The Democrats are going to want to remind the people who still have their homes how much value they have lost.

It is about 25% around Detroit.

If that doesn't float some Democrat's boats then they should go into a different line of work, if they can find it.

Oil prices are expected to continue their upward march. It recently crossed the $100/barrel threshold that energy analysts have predicted. Their next prediction: "Black gold" could reach price points up near $200 within 12 months.

http://www.moneymorning.com/ppc/oil_2008_je9.html?gclid=CMz_y8zo6pICFQFq...

Wow...I like this one. Hopefully it's one in long string of others...SOMETHING has to counter the positive media attention the man gets. I don't understand why / how people view him as an outsider...we need to show them reality.

When you add up the inflation figures, which by the way, do NOT account for FOOD or FUEL, The amount of inflation since 1990 is 105%.

I want to know how many workers have had a 105% increase in wages to keep up with that?

Not counting food and fuel.

As far as I can tell our pay has been cut in half since then. I don't know many people who make 61K a year anymore. The talking heads call that MEDIUM income right now.

Any observations?

I'd love to see his first wife interviewed. It would end it for him.

Best strategy to beat McCain is to make him speak before the country without a teleprompter for 20 minutes. Oh, and we'd have to gag the press, since they'd all clamour to defend his "insight", "experience", and "legacy". Puke.

My cousin Aaron is better off....he just got released after ten years in the Illinois State Pen.

Howard Dean's Fifty State Strategy and Barack's message of Hope is really going to help come this fall. Some things are coming together that could provide for a more peaceful and optimistic future.

word!

These points are worth making and worth remembering, but if I hadn't read them first in your commentary, I wouldn't have gotten them all from the ad, because the first few points flashed on and off the screen so fast I could barely take it in. The other thing is that in a short ad like this, McCain's words can be heard, but the main information, what you want people to remember and maybe even repeat! is only in text flashing on the screen. What's wrong with this picture? That's freaking risky, because a lot of people are often listening to the TV but not looking directly at the screen. Which turns this into free promotion for McCain...do these folks have any professional producers working with them?

you know what america really oughta do? we oughta give this guy a nuclear arsenal!

TED BUNDY, EAT YOUR HEART OUT!

To alert the american people the ad can also be tweaked to slam certain media outlets
and pundits that spew disinformation and lies.

.... and put the ad right in the middle of "those certain pundit's shows".

apparently, you're NOT an american if you're not doing better. I guess the number of americans is dropping steadily.

Anyone who votes for McCain is a glutten for punishment.

What teh Dems should do is recycle some of the crap the Bush Repigs used in 2000. I know it's dirty but damn it, we can't allow that man near the White House. Some has said and it's true, that we are one wacko away in the supreme court from moving decades backwards.

population grew about 6% in that period from about 280M to 300M
unemployment (in people) went up 30%

Every state and DNC should also do some investigating....

"...the question isn't whether or not ABC set out to lynch Obama..

....No, the only question is for whom the network was performing the deed? "

You are correct. Here is everything needed to do that.

Excuse me, but none of McLiar’s claims are based on fact. What comes out of his mouth is determined by who he is speaking to at the moment. Facts, and even truth, have nothing to do with it.

Out of touch.

THIS MAN IS DREAMING, WHILE WE ARE IN A NIGHTMEAR!!!!, DON'T LET IT GO ON, STOP HIS DREAMING, NOW!!!!.

They should have McCheatunHeart's first wife do the voice over.

He's out of touch with the ordinary American. No wonder, with his 100 million dollar household income. Oh well, what can one expect from the elites but elitism?

They needed to add food prices up 40% to 70%... and food riots in 33 countries... we're next!

It is related. Consider the twin deficiets, trade and US budget. We are 9 trillion dollars in debet and climbing. Borrowing half a trillion dollars a year to carry on this illegal war. We have printed so many dollars the world is awash in dollars. Foriegn central banks are sitting on trillions because they are trying to keep the dollar strong (theirs weak) for the trade advantage and buying more of our debet even as the dollar drops faster in value. Things may start to come apart when one of these countries decides it's no longer going to take the loss and start bailing out of the dollar. That may start the race for the bottom. We already see the oil producing countries begining to sell there oil for other currencies. We have in the past demanded that these countries sell the oil for dollars an artificial prop for the dollar (other countries must buy dollars on the open market to buy oil).
Even the drug lords are begining to demand Euros. That should be a wake up call.
This house of cards is about to collapse.

Typical Dem ad, talking about issues the president does not control.

Senator McCain is not wearing an American Flag lapel pin.

Shame... shame... shame...

Ron Paul was right. Get rid of the FED and the CIA.

The DNC should run a commercial explaining that with our military in the shape that it is now, if we stay in Iraq much longer we are going to have to have a draft. There is no way around it. McCain in the White House in 2009, draft by 2010.

ROFL!

If you're talking about war, I'd agree that this president certainly hasn't seemed to be controlling things...

but he did enable spending money on this fiasco, and pretends to control it.

Go to: www.democrats.org and show Howard some support!

Typical Republican, all bluster, but no understanding of what the issues even are.

*edit*

Sorry Otay; my quote got mingled with your's somehow!

The democrats hold the power of the purse, why haven't they ended the war? What were the mid-term elections about again? Why should we listen to these clowns regarding the economy when they have been just as complicit in helping the economy slide as the Repuglicans who have asked for the billions of dollars they continue shell out for this ill conceived illegal war? Neither party deserve our vote or trust.

One thing that puzzles me when comparing British party politics to American is...

The Democrat party seems to be rudderless or gives out that impression, where is the strong visible leadership of the Congressional people.
I know there is a massive separation between the pop star President role and the mundane Congressional jobs.
In the UK the Prime Minister is the leader of the party and also the top party dog in the House of Commons.
British party leaders both the in power and opposition both appear on TV and give interviews and promote policy and action.
Here in the US, the party leadership seems or tries to be invisible and toothless.

16 months of mostly leaderless inaction apart from a handful of dedicated committee types.
time to pull the rug out and stop funding bad Republican policys.

hey chris was that you doing that Faux ambush interview earlier !
certainly sounded like a crackly voiced teenygopper.
dont forget you have to be in bed by 9pm so up in time for school tomorrow.

McCain is blatantly lying. And you can bet the interviewer didn't bother to challenge him on any of those points. Are Americas really that gullible? I feel like we're living in Oz with the Wizard standing behind the curtain pulling his little levers blowing smoke up everyone's behinds. Yes everything is wonderful, peachy kin, and pay no attention to that mind behind the curtain and all those facts that suggest otherwise.

# 44 says.."Typical Dem ad, talking about issues the president does not control."

I always find it of interesting how when the Dems are in control and the economy goes to crap, it's the Dems fault. On the other hand, when the REthugs are in control and the economy goes to crap, which it inevitably does, it's not their fault. And of course, the economy was great under Clinton (a Democrat), and he gets no credit, and in fact is blamed for the problems that ensued once he left office. So, not only do the Dems get blamed when they're in control, they get blamed when they're not. It's truly amazing. Republicans are such hypocrites.

chris Says: Typical Dem ad, talking about issues the president does not control.

hahahahaha!

You fascists must really enjoy making asses out of yourselves.

Amen to those demanding the dems take off the kid gloves and slap this grump old hasbeen in from off all to see. McCain may have been an American hero as a young man, but those days are long gone. Since the war, he's cheated on his wife with an heiress he's referred to as a c--t, married into her 100 million dollar family, and like to vote against financial aid for our current veterans. Some hero.

While the ad attempts to compare and contrast McCain's "reality" with the world as it is, all you hear are McCain's words. Anyone not watching the ad (just listening to it while doing something else) could easily assume that the ad was pro-McCain. Try it. Close your eyes and just listen to the ad. It's only at the end where the question is asked "Do you feel better off?"

The DNC ran these types of ads in the last two election cycles. They're lousy - they put forth the other sides positions better than our own.

Worst disclaimer ever! "The Democratic National Committee is responsible for the content of this advertisement." NOT! Should have ended, "The Bush administration is RESPONSIBLE for the content of this advertisement. The DNRC just paid for the air time!"

correction, "DNC".

McCain's nickname in Vietnam "Songbird"
