Counting down the scandals...
First up is an update on the Liberty 7 "terror" trial. Remember these guys? They were a bunch of paintballers in Florida who the government said threatened to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago. Well, surprise, surprise, after two trials, we have not one conviction but a second hung jury, with one of the jurors weighing in on a third trial:
"They are wasting time and money…unless they change the evidence or approach they might get another hung jury."
But never fear, waste is nothing in the pursuit of the "War on Terror," as U.S. Assistant Attorney Richard Gregorie says that the Feds will seek a third trial.
And then we have the story Steve brought you yesterday, that is Evidence #2,846 that the country wants us as dumbed down as possible and doesn't mind if kids get pregnant to do that. At the news (which is not new--just a confirmation of what we've known for decades) that the studies show abstinence-only sex education program the federal government has been pouring money into is not working. But don't tell that to Rep. John Duncan (R-TN), who found trusting a scientific study by academics with those high-falutin' degrees "elitist."
And finally, the sad story recounted by Dana Milbank at the Washington Post. When Lt. Col. Billy Hall lost his life in Iraq, his grieving family gave permission for the media to cover his funeral at Arlington Cemetary. But the Pentagon had other ideas and cordoned off the media so that they could get no usable audio and only a few, distant photos with yellow ropes blocking the face of his loved ones.
Whatever this war does and does not mean to the history of this country nothing could have more greatly impacted the family of Lt. Col. Billy Hall. And if his story, and the story of other American heroes are kept from the American public, it is not the doing of the American media that somehow dishonors the troops. The blame lies clearly and completely at the foot of the Bush administration. IT does not want our heroes honored. It wants itself honored. And all else — Lt. Col. Hall, his family and their wishes – they can all, Mr. Bush is saying, go to hell.
Bush is such a fuck-up..
Hunter voted against the war, so he's not dumb as some.
How much more insult can we take?
Our government is made up of fascist pigs, and the rights of Americans is not of importance any longer.
Shame on us. We have lost the nation we were once proud of.

Anyone who thinks the Bush administration is going to go quietly into the night following the next election is smoking crack. They're either going to install their man (McCain) or their she-man (Hillary). Obama might actually try to hold them to account for their crimes, so he's going to have to be assassinated if the media can't destroy his candidacy first.
They'll always try character assassination first, but when that fails, they have no reservations about falling back on actual assassination.

A Great Idea ....how 'bout a constitutional amendment guaranteeing a free press so we could clearly see the results of the business end of the war machine in human terms. And I'm quite sure Bush ,who swore to defend and uphold the constitution, would not attempt to hide any of many failures by blocking any press coverage.

In my opinion, no cost is too high to sorta give the hint of an impression that we might possibly be winning a very, very small skirmish in the public relations battle being waged as part of the larger War Against Terror.

The ironic thing about it is that by not supporting real sex education, they're increasing the number of pregnancies, and thereby increasing the number of abortions that happen. I think in this argument against abstinance only education, we really need to make that point everytime it comes up.

Where do I find a ranking of the states that have the lowest graduation rates and of failing schools? want to try to corralate that with teen pregancy rates and abstinance only sex ed also did Duncan graduate college or was it one of those paper mills that turn out a diploma DSU.
I guess the rethugs want to keep the population barefoot and stupid they are easier to control that way. Final note this abstinance only sex ed sounds like another no child left behind failure unless your on the gravy train didn't one of the worthless bush family make a killing out od selling programs
