Larry King Live: Michael Moore On Obama, Clinton, Wright and McCain

Michael Moore appeared on Larry King Live Wednesday to talk about his support for Barack Obama, his views on Hillary Clinton's campaign, the Rev. Wright distraction and as expected, spoke some serious truth about John McCain and how he's wrong for America.

icon Download | play icon Download | play

While Moore hasn't been shy about his dismay with Hillary Clinton's campaign, he talks about party reconciliation after the Democratic primary is over and acknowledges that he hears from a lot of women, many of them older women, who support Hillary and rightfully so. Larry King tries to get Moore to praise McCain, as all elite media pundits do, but Michael hits him hard on vowing to run a third Bush term with disastrous policies that as an "elderly American" would hurt him, were he not a U.S. Senator:

"...And we've seen him angry. And as a senior citizen maybe he's experiencing things now, as an elderly American where it's not the same as if he were a young person in this country. Certainly, if he wanted to go and get a job other than U.S. Senator, at his age, he'd have a pretty hard time, wouldn't he?"

HA!

HA!

I gotta get a tv so I can watch stuff. Ah to hell with it.

Heh. Nobody ticks off the tighty righties like Moore.

Like many uninfomed Americans, I was angry at Moore's outburst at the Oscars in 2003(or 2002). But he was right and I was more than wrong. So Mr. Moore, I apologize for being an idiot.

I'm just waiting for someone to say: "Isn't there enough commentators and anchors humping McCain's leg? I don't think I want to get in there."

The way the media sucks up to McCain is pathetic. Hagee, Keating Five, Temper issues are all swept under the rug, at least Moore shows he has the balls to say it like it is.

didn't michael moore here the news?

"the surge has been a huuuuuge success"TM

gee what's new, another good old white boy supporting obama. Even after knowing that obama sat in a church for 20 years listening to a preacher tell his congregation to HATE ALL WHITES. And damning America and above all blaming ourselves for 9/11. I guess it doesn't matter what kind of a piece of crap you support as long as it isn't a WOMAN. Hate predjuice and out and out phobias...what else are the good old boys gonna foster.??????

Michael Moore is a big bag of wind...

Wow Marge, you seem a little ticked off.

Kevin, Moore may be blustery, but he is usually right.

I'm not questioning the validity of his statements.... I'm saying sometimes he needs to stfu (not necessarily in this case), just overall.

Well, regardless of who gets the nomination, I will be voting Democrat. Just thinking of McCain winning gives me the heebie-jeebies.

Talk Radio-Talk TV

Talk talk talk

The right hate Moore because Mike is smarter than to talk out of his ass like the frightwing pundits. Mikes facts are always well vetted and supported. Right down to every last nuance and scenes in his movies. He wont walk into the right wing spin trap and it drives them crazy. I respect Mike but don't always agree with his delivery too but im sure his message is properly intended. More Moores and less Hannitys would be a good start to a better America. Mike loves his country.. Hannity loves his paycheque and his 15 minutes which should be just about up by now.

I'm not feeling a lot of love at this post.

Moore haters are generally the people that need to STFU, in my opinion, or just go watch "The View" or some shit.

Republicans like Marge love to spread lies.

Bottom Line: All republicans are liars and cannot be trusted.

You know mcstain is completely wrong for the US because the reich wants him in power.

People are tiring of talk. It's been 7 years and we may as well be treading water barely staying alfoat with some guys in a boat giving us a lecture on why we shouldn't have gotten into that situation to begin with then they leave and we're thinking. . .uhhhh why didn't they pull us out of the water? I mean we're like drowning ya know?

People, people, lets chill for a minute. This is what the right-wing fringe want us to do. They practically drooling over the Obama and Clinton match-up. The more we beat each other up, the more McCain slips under the radar.

Yeah I kind of scratched my head at that one too. The solution of course is to change the channel.

sharkcellar @ 21:

Moore haters are generally the people that need to STFU, in my opinion, or just go watch "The View" or some shit.

I agree with almost everything he says and his movies are brilliant, but there's something about him that grates on me. Maybe I'd like to hear a positive take on some things, sometimes.

Alright, Mike! If only all Dems would be courageous enough to say what they think like this. Ever noticed how conservatives supposedly win points by saying things that enrage liberals, but liberals live in terror of saying things that enrage conservatives? What is so bad about pissing them off?

And for the record, I'm an Obama supporter (former Edwards supporter), and I will be voting for whoever wins the nomination. I never planned to do otherwise.

Moore is a National treasure!

14All, I agree. I just want this President out! Now! 71% disapprove of his performance. The lowest rating ever, even lower than Nixon's 66%. WTF.

P.D. @ 4:

Like many uninfomed Americans, I was angry at Moore's outburst at the Oscars in 2003(or 2002). But he was right and I was more than wrong. So Mr. Moore, I apologize for being an idiot.

Well, I don't think you're wrong. I really like Michael Moore but there are times that he's so passionate he comes off as a raving lunatic even though what he is saying is right.

The problem with that is it makes it easy for people who don't like him to dismiss everything he says.

This clip shows him in what I think is really his element. He's not being interrupted, there's an underlying tone of anger at what's happening in this country but he's addressing everything in a calm, rational and thoughtful manner.

His enemies will still bash him but if they use this clip as an example to try to convince somebody who doesn't know Moore or is undecided that Moore is an extremist they won't get too far.

My only problem with Mr. Moore is that he sometimes has to stretch the facts he presents to reach the conclusions he believes. He's still right but instead of using facts that take you straight there he takes the long route and then somewhere makes a huge jump across a chasm before getting to the conclusion. I wish I could think of an example to back that up, but I can't think of any at the moment. I just know that's the impression I've had more than once with him.

Actually he sort of does this at the end of this clip. He says, "John McCain wants to raise taxes." OK, I can see the logic there but he doesn't really spell out how that would happen even though I can figure it out. But if I didn't want to figure it out I could just call him a liar because he said it without backing it up and in the mean time McCain keeps talking about lowering taxes even more.

The obvious problem there is that it makes it easy for his enemies to say he didn't have his facts straight and therefore everything he says can be dismissed with no further discussion.

If he's left out that last sentence this clip would have been 100% solid.

Rev. Wright = Distraction
Angry = Distraction
Elitist = Distraction
Repeal of Gas Tax = Distraction

When will the mainstream media start to address the paid military analyst dust up? They're all guilty, and this is a crime! It is a travesty that we allow them to distract the sheep with all this mundane horsehockey they throw against the wall.

Matthews, Morning Joe crew, Howard Kurtz and CNN, Andrea Mitchell, Brian Williams, Timmeh; I hope that they all shit in bed tonight!

OT: The NYT is reporting that the DC Madam has killed herself in FLA.

Pissed off Patricia, I said it before and I'll say it again. I will vote for SpongeBob if he was the Democrat. I used to be an Independant, but the last seven years have been a nightmare. It will take decades to fix this country, if we can fix it at all. Pray.

I wonder what was in the Madam's suicide note. I'm wondering if Vitter is sweating a little?

The media is just reporting that the DC Madam committed suicide. I believe that there are so many in the DC area (high govt. officials) that wanted this woman dead for obvious reasons. I would ask the justice dept. to investigate, but they are most likely part of the plot. She had lots of people that wanted her shut up for good in my opinion.

I'm really not into conspiracy theories, but this seems really convenient for a lot of politicians who individually or collectively have the power to make a death look like suicide. If there's a note, it's probably a lot of mea culpas for causing so much trouble to everyone while globally stating that never ever did a republican enter her place of whoreship.

That's right up the road from me. They're mainly famous for their sponge docks. A large Greek community lives there. It's about the only interesting place within a few hundred miles of here (Spring Hill, FL).

Plus, the main reason is that all of the MSM is bought up by just a few individual Corporations. If you as a reporter ask too many hard questions of the preferred candidate or about situations your Boss the corporation does not want covered you will lose your MSM job. Also, they, the corporations, will blackball you the reporter. So the MSM reporters keep their mouths shut and the propaganda going that the government and corporations want released to the public. So the American Public goes around in blissful ignorance discussing information that really does not matter and never seeing the true problems facing the country. When a candidate tries to address the issues facing America then they try to bury him or her in other distractions to nulify his or her message.

That's how I see it too. Probably, the best thing for the Democratic party right now would be to just get it straight (call in the superduperdelegates if need be!), select your candidate and then concentrate on blowing McCain right out of the Blackwater.

McCain has changed position on so many issues no one can really say what he really stands for. For instance he has not yet released his wife's income tax statements. This is where most of his money comes from, so the public has a right to know. Another example of McCain's secrecy is what do these lobbist he is surrounded by expect in return for their support of his presidential campaign.

Taken out of context, don't you think? MM says he doesn't recycle, but in that book (which one was it again? I can't remember off the top of my head) he also laid out his reasons. He claims that recycling is a placebo (right word? Anyway...), meant to make us feel good about ourselves by throwing our cans and bottles into a bin and thus we have done our part to help the cause of conservation. But in reality, he says, these bins are in the end tossed in with the rest of the garbage. That isn't verbatim, but it is the gist of what he wrote in that book. Now, agree or disgree with his paranoia about recycling, his story is not quite the same as your take, your implication, that he "just don't do it. I'm Michael Moore! Harumph!"

And by the way we are likely all hypocrites in one or the other. We just don't all have our lives examined under a microscope.

I expect it from Repubs, but it is unfathomable that intelligent Democrats would buy into the discrediting of individuals like Michael Moore and Cindy Sheehan. As Democrats, we should support the real progressive voices in this country that the GOP and MSM work so hard to silence.

Who has discredited them? Discredited right wing blowhards? Moore and Sheehan have had the guts to tell it like it is and put themselves on the line. I have read his books and use his films to teach documentary filmmaking to my students- they love it. You might buy into the discredited myth because the MSM likes to make caracatures out of them but they are the true American patriots speaking truth to power.

gee what's new, another good old white boy supporting obama.

I fail to see why people have such outrage over the Rev. Wright's comment about the attacks of 9/11 being a result of America's policies. Osama bin Laden has said that, several times. He issued a fatwa in 1996 demanding that U. S. soldiers leave Saudi Arabia immediately. Two years later, he issued another fatwa and stated that is was "the duty of every Muslim" to "kill Americans everywhere." In that same statement, Osama objected to U. S. policy toward Israel and the continued presence of U. S. troops in Saudi Arabia. He reiterated those comments after 9/11. Thus, the Rev. Wright was merely reporting facts.

One wonders why all the lunatic comments of white pastors such as Robertson, Falwell, Hagee, etc. who claim that the 9/11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, tornados in Kansas, etc. are God's punishment for a variety of perceived sins are not the subject of incessant nightly discourse by the bloviators on talk radio and cable news shows. Might racism have something to do with this double standard?

(P. S.--I'm an old white guy from a very red state.)

P.D.@27 - Before the Donna Brazile (Obama) spin was super d's better not decide this election. We have nine contests left and now all of a sudden super d's need to vote and need to vote NOW.

Get over it. This is going to the end; all states will vote. Then the party elders can decide how to seat Michigan and Florida and tell us who our nominee will be - just like the rules state.

Eeyeeeeewwwwwwww! I thought only "Borat" wore that kind of bathing suit.

I predict that CNN will now use Moore's unwillingness to praise McCain as proof he is an shrill, member of the far-left fringe.

Because we all know, even the slightest criticism of a right-winger, no matter how deserved, is considered shrill and hateful by the media. But on the other hand, you can smear a left-wing candidate all day long, and spread long debunked lies...and you are just "asking questions that ordinary people want to know".

McCain as an old man wouldn't have to look for a job... he's already got one servicing his wealthy wife, although, I should think that with her money she could trade him in on a younger, cuter model that wouldn't call her a trollop or a C word.

Let's all stop being so divisive for a second. Every time a Hillary supporter goes off on Obama, Karl Rove gets an erection. Stop the madness. We're all on the same team. The goal is too precious not to unite.

You are right. Sicko is an extremely relevant and important film. One wonders, however, if Michael Moore has seen his own film, since Moore decided in the Larry King interview to inexplicably trash Ralph Nader, who, unlike the other three major candidates, has endorsed the idea of single payer health care in this country. It appears that Moore is willing to back any Democratic candidate, despite the fact that both Obama and Clinton have elected to keep the insurance and pharmaceutical in their health care proposals. Yet Moore has decided to excoriate Nader who, unlike the other two, is willing to place people above the needs of the big corporations.

It will certainly be difficult for Michael Moore to retain his credibility after backing a Democrat who is not in favor of what his film logically portrays as the best health plan that will aid all Americans in this country.

No, I know exactly what you meant. You used the military example as aid to your point. Whatever that was. Moore spent thousands upon thousands of hours at the top of his voice trying to convince Americans to vote for a candidate that he later claimed cost the democrats the election in 04. Fact. End of story.
That history alone is enough for me to be wary of any candidate he endorses. Period.

The fact that his dad served in the military is irrelevant. But since you brought it up...have you served? I have. And you don’t have a clue what harsh is. My dad did as well and gave his life. So what has that got to do with anything?

Moore has a history of being dead and dangerously WRONG. And history backs up my point.

I guess you must have missed the first time HRC took a run at the health issue. Those corporations ran a real well-financed attack that took on very personal dimensions. I rather like her new proposals. Firstly she's co-opted the deep pocket adversaries by lulling them into thinking gov't mandated health insurance will be a windfall for them. And it will for a while. When people finally look to cut costs it won't be health insurance (which is a mom and apple pie issue if ever there was one). No about that time people will think about cutting out the middle man: health insurance companies. It is a beautiful example of using the thin edge of the wedge to get the ball rolling on universal health care. The beauty of it is these corporations are so blinded by short term greed they are missing the inevitable consequences. This is one of the policy issues that I believe shows Clinton's political insight into the art of the possible.

14All, I agree. I just want this President out! Now! 71% disapprove of his performance. The lowest rating ever, even lower than Nixon's 66%. WTF.

Again, it's not the 71% that leaps-out at me. Who the hell are the 29% morons that still support this asshole. There is not anywhere near 87,000,000 rich people in this country. WTF!!

...And my Dad died in Vietnam. So what's your point? Mine was that even good intentions can lead to mistakes. And he has been wrong - so very wrong - which was my Nader reference. He was the one on his knees on national television begging Ralph not to run and admitting he WAS WRONG.

Your point seems to be no one can make points except you and your hate.

If you truly believe in the first amendment, you shouldn't try to stop Moore or anyone from exercising that right....even if you completely disagree. I may be harsh, but I'm not a hypocrite.

No.... I did not serve. So now you pull a McCain on me and use the "I served" card as if that makes your point stronger. I mentioned Moore's father having fought in WWII because so many people over the years have questioned his loyalty to Country. He mentions that fact in his book "will they ever trust us again" as an example that his father, a vet, taught him to always question authority. You can divert the subject as much as you need to in order to feel right, but Moore has been right WAY more than wrong.

It would seem that the weight you give to having served or even having a relative who served would make McCain your logical candidate.

Actually, I served during peacetime, although at the VA they call me a Cold War Veteran, since I had a Top Secret Clearance, and ray gun was still in office.

However, I'm a Moore supporter, and I don't care who he supports for office. That's not what I base my opinions on.
