McCain: I’d like to begin tonight by thanking Republican voters. We’re gearing up for one of the most pivotal elections in this nation’s history. And I’m honored to be part of it. But I also want to speak to Democrats. I know we don’t see eye to eye on every issue, but I also believe we respect one another. That’s why I want to give to you this piece of advice: Democrats, I have to urge you—do not, under any circumstances, pick a candidate too soon.
Myers: Oh, so you don’t think Hillary should drop out.
McCain: Absolutely not.
Poehler: I told you.
Myers: Cool it.
Poehler: You cool it.
McCain: That’s right, fight amongst yourselves.

McCain: That’s right, fight amongst yourselves.
There's a lot of truth in that and it's not funny.
john mcsame is a friggin robot. he reads from a teleprompter worse than bush, he i never thought i would see anything worse than bush.
"..fight amongst yourselves..."
and we do...
and we don't realize it...
I thought he was surprisingly good. It's kind of annoying when a candidate with poorly-thought-out, dangerous policies like John McCain manages to be genuinely funny and entertaining. He was at least as good as any of the political cartoons portraying him relaxing and eating popcorn while Obama and Hillary fight in the foreground.
This skit seems to be about a week late...Hillary has all but stopped fighting. From what I am hearing it sounds like she is wrapping up her campaign...maybe She'll just hanging on long enough to see if something happens to Obama to make her the last man standing (so to speak) but it sounds like the fighting is over...
That is a funny segment - particularly the "Fight among yourselves" part.
The only thing about SNL that makes me laugh is the fact that it's still on the air.
Most reich-wingers will not find it amusing because it didn't entail a death threat or McBush didn't call anyone a "fag".
It was reasonably funny. He's been on SNL before, and does as well as most non-entertainment folks.
His advice did come a little late though. But it's not too late for me to provide this advice for him:
Get as much public support for your candidacy from Bush and Cheney as you possibly can. Ride their coattails to, um, wherever it is that they lead.
He was actually pretty funny. And a good sport. Doesn't change the fact that I vehemently disagree with him on every position possible.
John McCain can be a pretty funny guy. Still, he'd make a horrible President. Also, he's not nearly as funny as Jesse Jackson reading Green Eggs and Ham.
I thought it was brilliant. He really should give up this whole politics thing and devote his remaining years to sketch comedy.
McCain moved to Arizona to run for office. He wasnt then and isnt now an Arizonan. Even republicans dont think much of him. He is in office because of the high recidivism rates in politics.
McCain doesnt care about the people of Arizona.
As an Arizonan - McCain has seen more of Poehler than he has me.
He fucks me while dreaming of Poehler.
fiver @ 11:
You do understand that SNL uses professional writers ... right?
Not bad, but I thought the funniest part was Amy Poehler's first joke after the McCain segment.
When McCain gets out of politics I can see him following in Bob Dole's footsteps.
anon @ 14:
Silly me, I thought it was Dr. Seuss.
Sen. McCain: Please, please give up your day job.
After the past 7 years how could anyone have any respect for your party Senator mccain? Your party has ignored the Constitution, ignored the laws, ignored normal social mores, ignored common decency and flat out done untold damage to the nation here at home and to our image abroad. Screw you!
If John McCain runs in the general election against both Obama and Clinton he will come in third.
McBush: Less Jobs, More Wars
fiver @ 17:
If Jon Stewart read those lines i would be rolling on the floor. It's all in the delivery.
How's the Keating 5 sketch play? Oh wait.
So he read some self-deprecating lines written by NBC comedy writers, and the lines were certainly pre-approved by his campaign. Not much there there. To me it seemed like somebody's great grandfather trying to be cool. It never works.
And FWIW, SNL jumped the shark decades ago.
He's only saying the exact McSame things we have been saying. Of course Hillary should drop out. but she won't http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/18/new-bin-laden-message-to_n_1022...
That was stupid. That right-wing asshole should not be on TV, ever.
He’s only saying the exact McSame things we have been saying. Of course Hillary should drop out. but she won’t

McLame.
Meaningless. All it's saying is that McCain and SNL feel comfortable, warm and cozy together in the celebrity green room. Not politics. Not satire. Nothing.
McSame's performance reeked of desperation.

McCain on SNL, Hopes Obama-Hillary Fight Lasts Longer than Sunni-Shia
That was pretty lame.
Man, oh man. That was way past Gampy's bedtime. I hope he gets to relax today and just lay in bed and watch his Murder She Wrote DVDs.
In spite of all the damage done our nation by the reich wingers McSame still sees the nation as leaning right and plans to campaign that way. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080518/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_beating_obama
Please, please, please do!!
Exactly what will give the USA President McCain in 2008. Thank God for his candidacy.
Isn't EVERY presidential election pivotal?
MargeAggedon @ 7:
I was always under the impression that SNL was supposed to be funny,
maybe it has been in the past, but to my Brit eyes it was mediocre.
xoites (One White Vote for Obama) defends Constitution @ 22:
He really isnt a funny guy - this is a performance. He is an angry and viscious man.
I repeat - SNL uses professional writers, its not McCain. I didnt comment on Green Eggs and Ham.
ferrofluid @ 37:
with all the events of the last seven years and the endless material, SNL could be awesome (if it had a decent producer and good awake writers)
SNL stopped being funny when all the good comedians left. McSame isn't one of those good comedians.
ferrofluid @ 37:
Depends on the decade and performer. Except for the first few years, SNL has been generally mediocre with moments of brilliance. Saturday night isnt a strong night for TV in the colony - otherwise, it would have been replaced long ago.
Ruthless People @ 34:
Be careful what you wish for. Remember that the administration has that color-coded bag of alerts to fall back upon. It worked for them the last time. Watch for the colors to get increasingly warmer leading up to the conventions, and especially hot in November.
As a comedy nerd I have to admit that of all the candidates in this entire race, McCain is one of the best when it comes to stuff like TDS or SNL. As much as I love Obama he still seems a little stiff and corny sometimes with his humor. Of course, one has to be especially weary of charming old codger republicans...
J @ 43:
I'd rather have a candidate who is a stiff and corny comedian but smooth and charismatic off the cuff than vice versa. And for what its worth, although the sketch was somewhat humorous McCain is incredibly stiff and robotic when he is reading off the prompter.
In 2000, I might have though a SNL appearance by "Straight Talk" McCain was cute and endearing, but not this McCain, this wrinkled up pandering nutjob.
I got a little sinking feeling out of watching him do such a good job. He sold those lines and got genuine laughs out of a crowd that was stacked against him.
ferrofluid @ 37:
I have no clue why that show is still in the air.
The worst part is that they keep enabling these dolts by hiring them for those awful movies...
I'm surprised that grandpa could stay up that late!!
blue lanugo @ 45:
Well, he is the one laughing all the way to the bank. He should have been booed...
Then again, with Bush 30% approval rate, I have no clue how on Jehovah's name McCain gets to have rankings in par with Hillary and Obama. I swear half of this country is lobotomized or something, because there is just no way to explain the logical dissonance.
I just came from a Brunch with my better half's family. A few GOP die hards, racist rednecks. One doesn't trust Obama because he is a muslim and because of his angry preacher. I just wanted to stick a fork in that idiot's forehead: a muslim with a preacher??? WTF jackass!
Ok, I thought it was hilarious.
And why the hell would you go around calling conservatives "Reich Wingers", they don't run around and call liberals "communists", though on a relativity scale, that term is much more appropriate.
This was the best episode of SNL in a long while and I greatly enjoyed both McCain and Steve Carrel.
flatworld @ 49:
Well the nazi party was a both reactionary and right wing. Heck even your boy Bush's grandad was a fascist fanboy... so the term is rather appropriate.
Oh, and spare me the victimization bullshit. If anything liberals are tame when labeling the christo-fascist for what they are, and that is a correct term: Christian extremists in bed with corporate interests. Remember how mussolini defined fascism as corporatism. Reading a couple of comments in free republic or any other right win site will prove that you are full of shit.
Once again, pseudoprogs are linking hands with neocons and singing about unity. Colored me shocked.
You're all welcome to drop by No Blood For Hubris and catch up on what people are saying and thinking outside the pseudoprog hermetically-sealed-fart-chamber-sphere.
That was really well written.
Lest you think SNL gives Mc Lame has any genuine credibility, let Robert Greenwald of Brave New Films convince you otherwise:
www.bravenewfilms.org/watch/27103822/39179
Or as Cliff Schechter said: " It is dangerous for a democracy when a presidential candidate can lie with impunity, change positions on a whim, and physically and verbally threaten others, and virutally none of it is reported by a besotted media eagerly awaiting the next moment when he might slap their backs in friendship."
While Mc Cain may come off as credible to some, his reality is very different. Don't be fooled by his pandering image, because that's all it is.
bmw H. 528 @ 53:
Try this link for the Mc Cain video, sorry about the first one:

McCain has always played well to a crowd in these informal settings. As long as he doesn't have to talk politics, he can seem charming and even witty at times. That, along with his faux Maverick schtick, is why John Stewart and similarly shallow liberals have loved him for so long.
I'm still not convinced McCain will be as easy to beat as everyone is saying. After all, he's white, male, beloved by the media, and somewhat personable. Lets just hope disgust with all things Republican will be enough to sink him. And since he has allowed himself to be shackled to all of their most hated policies in order to snag the nomination, I'm starting to wonder if for once the optimists may not be right…
Still, my cynicism remains firmly in place. McCain will not be as easy to beat as you think. Always start with the assumption the American people can be talked into selling themselves up the river by shysters who appeal to their fears and innate selfishness. You rarely go wrong that way.
anon @ 38:
Careful there, with Dr. Seuss. He's one of my heroes. Don't use his name in vain. "I do not like green eggs and ham... " Great stuff.
paul @ 52:
Someone's read their Emily Post.
Sorry, but, a waste of a post, he is lame as hell, he is a condescending jackass, thinks hes funny, and he thinks he's an everybody's man. go to Hell, just cause your sorry ass survived Vietnam does NOT mean a thing. 100,000+ more did the same, does that entitle them to use that as a justification for running for office on?
once again....Go to Hell, along with all the other war criminals rotting their.
PS: So, if I am not mistaken, McCain is a war hero because of the following:
- Flew a jet in a war of tyranny and aggression
- Flew missions in which the attacked, bombed, and killed were for a majority of the time, INNOCENT civilians
- Flew missions in which civilian centers of population were carpet bombed, and doused with Agent Orange
- Supports more wars of aggression and tyranny
- And does not believe in diplomacy.
And we call his lame Hell-bound ass a hero? C'mon America, wake up, get Real, and stop being spoon fed your information and your wisdon, or lack thereof, via the MSM.
Wake up
Hillary will win the popular vote.
Then it will be Gore Bush all over again. Once again the popular vote winner gets screwed, and rightly, all hell will break loose in the party.
Ah hell everyone, lighten up!
It was funny. If we all lose our sense of humour, this is really going to be a long campaign.
Robert
Dahgrostabphri @ 5:
Aaron,
You mean before or after she blows out Obama by 35 points in Kentucky?
Ben @ 61:
believe it or not, I think she'll take Montana and S Dakota too. I'm not sure if it will help her at this point though. But I think she should be the Veep, just to garner all the votes to make sure we win this election without any doubt left. McCain Can Win this. All he needs is for the Dem party to stay split, and it's his for the taking.
"And why the hell would you go around calling conservatives "Reich Wingers", they don't run around and call liberals "communists", though on a relativity scale, that term is much more appropriate."
"Well the nazi party was a both reactionary and right wing. Heck even your boy Bush's grandad was a fascist fanboy... so the term is rather appropriate."
Uh, the Nazi party also killed about 9 million people because they didn't like their ethnicity. You may not like today's right wing of American politics (for the record, I can't stand them) but it's the height of stupidity to try to connect them to the Nazi party. They're not committing genocide. They are not committing World War. They are not separating people out because of ethnicity and leading to the gas chambers. Your comment, while glib and actually pretty cliche, has no connection to reality and just serves to validate the view folks have of extremists like you.
Ben @ 63:
The Republicans armed Saddam Hussein with chemical weapons, which were used against Iran, and then later, against the Kurds. Then we went to war with Iraq, with no discernable connections to terrorism, based off the fact they had the same weapons we armed them with in the 80s. The lid was blown off the shit-pot, and there is sectarian cleansing.
And hell, it was only black people in New Orleans when it got flooded, who cares if some of them die? They weren't voting R anyway, and the displaced people were better off for it.
All of these actions and inactions were committed under Republican presidents, and symbolic of the right-wing fringe of the Republican party's mindset. Tell me again how they're not responsible?
Hmm...so all of you here believe he is all about bush...Interesting..no one here really reads eh? Well, thank god that Obama and hillary have lead their party in two directions..Now, many hillary supporters will now vote for Obama..but for mccain. good job there..
oh..and just to remind people...It was a democrat who got us into Vietnam. and a republican out of it. A democrat who waited till we were attacked..then entered us into a war. guess they were both bad and wrong too
DT @ 66:
Yeah, you tell' em, DT. Provocation is soooo twentieth century. Everyone knows you should just attack any old country you feel like, right?
