Gramm is no economist, he is trying to do the same thing that failed before, and expecting a different result - a.k.a. insanity.
At least it wasn't a surprise, and he got to spend the rest of his life with family instead of being blown apart in a war he helped cheerlead.

IndyMac Seized by U.S. Regulators; Schumer Blamed for Failure
By Ari Levy and David Mildenberg
July 12 (Bloomberg) -- IndyMac Bancorp Inc. became the second- biggest federally insured financial company to be seized by U.S. regulators after a run by depositors left the California mortgage lender short on cash.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. will run a successor institution, IndyMac Federal Bank FSB, starting next week, the Office of Thrift Supervision said in an e-mail yesterday. The regulator blamed U.S. Senator Charles Schumer for creating a ``liquidity crisis'' after a letter on June 26, in which he expressed concern that the bank may fail.
The Pasadena, California-based lender specialized in so-called Alt-A mortgages, which didn't require borrowers to provide documentation on their incomes.

Amygdala brings up some good points of view regarding the apparent photo shopped Iranian missile launch although all of them come from the U.S. point of view. However, there are other possibilities to consider. If the fourth missile was a misfire then why compound two other images to replicate another? Especially since they had to know it would be detected easily by even a casual observer. Why didn't they just remove that failed missile launch entirely from the picture and replace that portion of smoke with a duplicated portion of the background skyline? With the same tint and haze it would have been almost impossible to detect in my opinion and the area where the failed launch was at could have been smugged to look similar to the other terrain. Why was it so important to show four missiles instead of just three when all of them appear to be the same type of weapon? I see no motive for the Iranians to photo shop the image but I do see where the U.S. would want it viewed that way.
both cook and pz are/were being antagonistic... jeez, live and let live...
if it's "just a cracker", why such a to-do?
Joe O. @ 8:
I wonder what Iranian blogs are saying about all this. It'd be interesting to read their perspective and get some more info.

Report: Iran begins war game with warning to U.S. and Israel
"Mullen spoke after returning from a visit to Israel, during which he met with Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi and other senior IDF officers.
Cordesman said Mullen came to Israel to deliver a message that Israel did not have a green light to attack Iran and that it would not receive U.S. support for such a move."

Mona Charen over at National Review stirs up the inflammatory rhetoric in regard to Iran
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NjYxNWYxYjk3OGI0MzE3ZTNkODI4NDZmMjM...
What the Mullahs Should Mull
Attack Israel, and the response will not be a Security Council resolution.
"Cordesman estimates that Iran would launch a 100-kiloton bomb, which can inflict third-degree burns at a distance of 8 miles. But Israel would use one-megaton bombs that inflict such burns at 24 miles. Israel’s arsenal is also large, estimated to be in the neighborhood of 200 warheads, with multiple delivery methods including cruise missiles launched from submarines. If forced into a nuclear war (God forbid), Israel would probably aim for Tehran, a city of 15 million situated Cordesman says “in a topographical basin with mountain reflector. Nearly ideal nuclear killing ground.”
The great unknown is this: How crazy is the Iranian regime?"
MONA OBVIOUSLY HAS A HUGE AGENDA AND THAT IS LYING ABOUT IRAN. Mona has obviously been ignoring how may times Ariel Sharon and other Israeli leaders along with the neo-cons in the U.S. have threatened Iran with a pre-emptive attack. If only Mona and the other warmongers focused on an attack on Iran would listen to their own superheated and false claims about Iran. Her agenda is clear

Micheal "faster please" Ledeen still pushing his warmongering with Iran
All failed. As Ken Pollack recounts in his book, The Persian Puzzle, every carrot was offered and every stick was brandished. We tried everything. The Iranians were not interested. It reminds me of that great scene from Goldfinger, with James Bond spread-eagled on a sheet of gold, and a laser beam slicing through it, headed for his private parts.
“Do you expect me talk, Goldfinger?” he asks.
“No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die.”
Micheal "faster please" Ledeen still pushing hard for a pre-emptive attack on Iran by promoting "they want us all to die" rhetoric". JUST WHEN WILL THIS GUY BE THROWN IN PRISON FOR HIS WAR CRIMES INSTEAD OF PROMOTING MORE WARS?
Flynt Leverett has stated that it is Iran who has made endless efforts to negotiate with many U.S. administrations

everett: Bush Administration ‘Not Serious’ About Dealing With Iran

Flynt Leverett Flynt L. Leverett, who served in senior posts at the National Security Council, the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency, says that the United States has gotten itself into a diplomatic dilemma with Iran “because we essentially don’t have a strategy” for dealing with the Iranian nuclear issue. Asserting that the Bush administration rejected an invitation made by Iran in 2003 to open a strategic dialogue, Leverett says that Bush “is, on this issue, very, very resistant to the idea of doing a deal, even a deal that would solve the nuclear problem.”

How to Defuse Iran

IN the wake of the new National Intelligence Estimate on Iran’s nuclear program, Democrats and others are criticizing President Bush for again having “hyped” a nuclear weapons threat. This criticism, while deserved, does not address the critical policy question: What do we do now?
Clearly, the United States cannot ignore Iran. Tehran may have suspended the purely weapons-related aspects of its nuclear program, but it continues to master uranium enrichment, with no agreed limits in place. And Iran is well positioned either to facilitate or thwart American objectives in Iraq and across the Middle East.
NOW WHO ARE YOU GOING TO BELIEVE A COMPULSIVE LIAR AND FABRICATOR LIKE LEDEEN OR FLYNT LEVERETT WHO QUIT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION DUE TO THE FALSE CLAIMS BEING REPEATED IN THE RUN UP TO THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF IRAQ/
If you ask almost anybody, you will hear how much of a grave threat Iran is to the global village. It's already been pounded into their heads from the Corporate Media (TM). Meet Iraqnam Part 2. Sad how stupid people really are.
For those of you who want something to share the facts about McCain, I encourage you to check out this blog site.
Here is a blog post with quotes with a blast from the past. These quotes can be read back to the current members of the Judiciary Committee as a perfect argument for impeaching Bush. The hypocrisy may, or may not, stun you.

American casualties in Iraq as of today--4118: *Crickets*
Estimated Iraqi deaths since the invasion--1,236,604: Silence.
Hey, everyone is equal in the end. Be nice.
Webster @ 17:
What's your point?
We are one of the few blogs that weekly updates the casualty count in Iraq and Afghanistan. We also do the In Memoriam segment every Sunday, and I'm sure Snow's passing will be acknowledged.
And just for your information, we are NOT a news blog. Never have been. There are plenty of outlets for that on the internet with larger staffs than we have. This is a political opinion/media watchdog blog.
Nicole Belle @ 19:
More objectivity on the former would lead to doing a better job on the latter. ;)
rip tony snow
guess he wasnt in remission afterall
disagreed with him about everything, but 51 is way to young

What's the URL of your site? I'd like to evaluate it?
Why can't C&L be exactly the way I want it to be?!? ;-)
Thanks for covering the PZ Myers story. Donohue is a bully and a fraud.
Webster @ 17:
You have a solid point
Uncle Joe Mccarthy @ 21:
Way to young. Watched Fox's memorial for him this morning. Tony Snow said the words he loved to hear the most was when he came home and his three kids would run to meet him calling him "Daddy". Very sad. Prayers for his family. May he rest in Peace
Nicole Belle @ 19:
Stupid block quotes.
The point was not Crooks and Liars (the blog) not mentioning this, but the Crooks and Liars who run our CorporateMSM making may-he-rest-in-peace Snow the big story while continually ignoring the ever-so-much bigger story of what the hades is going on in the world. Getting your knickers in a twist over perceived insults is sort of childish of you in view of the facts of 4118/1,235,604.
Good grief.
And you can apologize anytime.
