Ah Sorry about the screw up John.

I wrote before that I'm starting to like the idea of Tim Kaine as Obama's VP.

He's from a swing state, he's got a degree in economics, he's been basically running a medium state for six years, and he really seems to care about people.

If we're fighting them there so we don't have to here, then why did the Brits get 3,000 passports- worth millions on the black market-stolen? Home prices suffer a record drop. The House finally apologizes for slavery and Jim Crow. Global warming hits Canada, eh? Stevens might make it easy for the Dems to win a majority, especially since he thinks he can continue to run for office, and hope people ignore his crime. The U.S. and India doesn't care about poor farmers.

then, the neighborhood bullies found out. and when my friend was away, they came up and killed the bullfrog.

Sad day, RedlLasso is being shut down by the TV networks they were supporting and advertising. RedLasso was a site where bloggers could go to create clips of streamed media and then post those clips via a URL. It was free advertisement for news networks. It was also a way to create a real history of what was said and when it was said. I'm quite sure the networks and the administration don't want that power in the hands of normal people.

We could ask why the British civil service and MoD MI6 MI5 and assorted other government depts lose laptops with confidential and top secret data on them almost on a monthly basis.
If it wasnt so serious for security it would be hilarious.
In Britain its socially acceptable to go to the pub and have a drink at lunchtime, and people drink after work, so what does the average Brit civil servant do ? they take their work laptop with them and then lose them in taxis or in some bar.
It happens here in the US too, but they keep it more under wraps.

Good. The "war on terror" is the biggest fraud/hoax played upon humanity. We aren't going after Bin Laden. We aren't investigating the Anthrax. We are going after Iraq's natural resources and setting up the world for a corporate dictatorship. It's hard to accept the predicament we are in I agree.. but it is the only way out as well.

The Systematic Destruction of Voting Rights in America (Part 1) Heidi Stevenson, (NaturalNews)

You might think you have the right to vote. You might think your vote counts. You might think that there's a problem here or there, but that they're the exceptions. You might think that the 2000 presidential election was an aberration, in which the U.S. Supreme Court violated ethical and court precedents to crown the election loser, countering the will of the people. You might think it can't possibly be an ongoing problem.

You might be very sadly mistaken.

Voting rights are under systematic attack in the United States. Techniques include:

* Outright disenfranchisement.

* Vote switching in election machines.

* Refusal to allow the public to see how votes are counted.

* Use of the people's courts by political parties and corporations to subvert the law.

* Use of lawsuit threats by large corporations against cash-strapped local governments to prevent them from examining voting machines.

Each one might not seem like a major issue, but taken together, it's clear that there's a coordinated attack on American citizens' rights to vote.

In swing-state Colorado, the Republican Secretary of State conducted the biggest purge of voters in history, dumping a fifth of all registrations. Guess their color.

In swing-state Florida, the state is refusing to accept about 85,000 new registrations from voter drives – overwhelming Black voters.

In swing state New Mexico, HALF of the Democrats of Mora, a dirt poor and overwhelmingly Hispanic county, found their registrations disappeared this year, courtesy of a Republican voting contractor.

In swing states Ohio and Nevada, new federal law is knocking out tens of thousands of voters who lost their homes to foreclosure.

Merrill Lynch, if you havent read whats going on there, go do so.
They are the poster child for the Repug economic miracle and atypical of whats going down in the financial world at the moment.
Their CEO got a 161 million dollar golden goodbye last december as they kicked his sorry ass out the door.
Third quarter this year will be the fifth quarterly loss in a row, CDOs sold off at effectively 5c on the dollar.
Share price down to 1/3 of what it was a year ago and going lower, they are paying out billions in compensation to the corporate investors who bought their shares when they were $48.
Posted a loss of $10 a share, plus share dilution scheme going on so shares halved in value for ordinary stockholders, so any non corporate suckers who still have shares owe Merill money.
So its just a matter of time before they do a Bear Sterns and get rescued and or sold off for pennies to another Wall Street shark.
And a last minor comment on Wall Street, they paid out a mere thirty eight billion dollars in bonuses (because they did so well in 06/07) to their execs and staff late 2007, just before it went all pear shaped :)
Its rather farcical in a way, Republican economic wolves gone wild, but effects us all, some more so than others and everybody with a 401K and prices and to an extent the general economic health of the nation.

"we dont need no stinkin regulation"

And the amazing thing about the various large financial companies and other companies liek Starbucks is the fact that they are being driven into the ground by their current boards of management, and the share holders who own the companies seem to be happy about the directors doing it.

If I was a Starbucks share holder in this situation, I would be very peed off that the company was decimating itself and destroying 10% of its regional outlets that cost so much to build up, both in cash and peoples efforts.
The amount of work and resources required to create all those cafes around the country and the top management decimate the company to save their short term profits and hang onto their jobs, they are appeasing the big investors who dont really give a damn about the long term survival of Starbucks or its presence in the high (main) street.
To keep the cafes/stores open (and as a Starbucks outlet in its district) it should be a basic business strategy to say half the cafe floor space, and maybe sell catfood or organic bread or newspaper/ books anyhting to keep it alive and running as a Starbucks outlet.
OK so expensive coffee is a bit of a luxury thing at the moment and not in demand so much in this climate, they could sell other products to coffee lovers in a Starbucks, its not rocket science to realize this and implement it.

WASHINGTON — More than 22,000 veterans have sought help from a special suicide hot line in its first year, and 1,221 suicides have been averted, the government says.

According to a recent RAND Corp. study, roughly one in five soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan displays symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, putting them at a higher risk for suicide. Researchers at Portland State University found that male veterans are twice as likely to commit suicide than men who are not veterans.

Great article in the WaPo this morning about the McCain campaign's repeated lies about Obama's trip to Germany last week.

McCain Charge Against Obama Lacks Evidence

For four days, Sen. John McCain and his allies have accused Sen. Barack Obama of snubbing wounded soldiers by canceling a visit to a military hospital because he could not take reporters with him, despite no evidence that the charge is true.

The attacks are part of a newly aggressive McCain operation whose aim is to portray the Democratic presidential candidate as a craven politician more interested in his image than in ailing soldiers, a senior McCain adviser said. They come despite repeated pledges by the Republican that he will never question his rival's patriotism.

The essence of McCain's allegation is that Obama planned to take a media entourage, including television cameras, to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany during his week-long foreign trip, and that he canceled the visit when he learned he could not do so. "I know that, according to reports, that he wanted to bring media people and cameras and his campaign staffers," McCain said Monday night on CNN's "Larry King Live."

The Obama campaign has denied that was the reason he called off the visit. In fact, there is no evidence that he planned to take anyone to the American hospital other than a military adviser, whose status as a campaign staff member sparked last-minute concern among Pentagon officials that the visit would be an improper political event.

"Absolutely, unequivocally wrong," Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor said in an e-mail after McCain's comments to Larry King.

Despite serious and repeated queries about the charge over several days, McCain and his allies continued yesterday to question Obama's patriotism by focusing attention on the canceled hospital visit.

Giant sheets of ice totaling almost eight square miles broke off an ice shelf in the Canadian Arctic last week and more could follow later this year, scientists said on Tuesday July 29. Temperatures in large parts of the Arctic have risen far faster than the global average in recent decades, a development that experts say is linked to global warming. The ice broke away from the shelf on Ward Hunt Island, an small island just off giant Ellesmere Island in one of the northernmost parts of Canada. It was the largest fracture of its kind since the nearby Ayles ice shelf -- which measured 25 square miles -- broke away in 2005.

McCain’s endorsement of the “surge” in January 2007 also represented a repudiation of his previous support for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s concept of using a light force of mobile U.S. troops, backed by technology and air power, to win the war.

THE LEGEND OF BULLFROG

bullfrogs show up in the blues, the doors wrote "peace frog", etc.

the frog is amphibious, hard to keep up with, hopping about like yoda in star wars 2.

my best buddy a few years back, the most gifted musician i've ever known, got jacked on smack and f#cked some stuff up really bad. E-V-I-L, dig?

i asked a mutual friend, "what happened?"

and this friend told me that when this guy was young, he found a bullfrog. brought the frog up to his treehouse, built a terrarium, filled it with vegetation and water.

then, the neighborhood bullies found out. and when my friend was away, they came up and killed the bullfrog.

and THAT's when it started.

rove reminds me of my friend, that's why i stand up for him.

Dude, I'm not buying the "sympathy for the devil" logic on Rove. I was horribly bullied in grade school and jr high, I did not let it turn me into a vile sociopathic scum bag. We are responsible for our adult selves.

That's a sad story man.

Oh fuckin PLEASE!!!
That's the BIGGEST pile of steaming horseshit I ever heard...not the story so much, but using it as a reason to defend Karl fucking Rove! WTF?!
Sorry, but that don't wash...I had bad things happen to me in my childhood...I was bullied some...I never became an evil SOB because of it. Once you're an adult, you can no longer blame past events on present behaviors.

If you're invited to bill o'really's house to eat falafel sandwiches be careful

Not only would the falafel be awful

But be wary of the white sauce that goes on them.

It might not be tzatziki sauce.

Just something speciall o'really personally whipped up.

I am a California transplant living in Ms. (Going back in 2 weeks). I have been in all of the quakes since I arrived in California in 1954 when my father's job took us there from Michigan. The magnitude of the quakes have been varied in intensity but the 1989 Loma Prieta quake took the cake IMO. I was living in Santa Cruz and driving a bus and had just pulled out of the Capitola mall when the quake hit. I was headed back to the downtown transit center when my bus started rolling on a wave on the asphalt below. I watched a truck skip across the lawn sideways. I announced to my passengers that we were having an earthquake and to remain calm. I was able to navigate my bus through the damaged pavement which was raised and buckled. 'When I approach 7th and Capitola Rd., a yellow car was on the other side of the intersection, abandoned because the rolling pavement had caught its undercarriage and rendering it inoperable. I proceeded up the hill and it was apparent that it was a bad quake with all the broken windows that I saw going down Soquel avenue. I made it to the transit center watching the downtown skyline filled with fire and smoke. This was the same day for the opening of the World Series at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, so the effects of the quake was felt over a wide area. Living here in the south has its moments with the tornadoes and severe thunderstorms but I much rather be in California because even with the aftershocks, it is more tolerable than the uncertainty of the weather here in the south.

GOPnot4me @ 9:

Hey, any of you C&Lers get to experience the earthquake this AM?

Woof, it was a good one. I thought for a bit I was going to be found under a pile of patient charts when the filing cabinets began to sway. Lasted a while, too.

More fun than the tornado's of my youth, I'll tell ya'.

Nobody is asking you to take a dump. That is a personal issue. If you want this erosion on the civil liberities of all of us to end then you should sign the petition.
Remember what Mark Twain quoted. "You should support your country all of the time but only support the government when it deserves it." We are not supposed to answer to their BS. We need to take a lesson in civics from our other Democratic allies like France so that we will have a manual on what it means to live in a Democracy and instructions on what to do when the government does something that is contrary to the Constitution'

Problems are solved by those people who care about their country but problems are created by those who don't.

Yuck! O'Reilly is one twisted, lying nutcase. I read on NEwshounds today that he edited out good stuff from the video tape of his radio interview with Scott McClellan. He thrives on twisting and lying. Check out the comment section to see his spin. McClellan should be pissed at the editing.

Voter caging? Question: Has anyone realized how many people will not be able to vote in the next election because they have lost their homes recently due to bad mortgage decisions and mortgage fraud. If they don't bother to re-register and try to go to their old polling place they may get turned away. The only question is, will this problem benefit one party more than the other? Are the people loosing their homes more likely democratic voters or republican? Hmmmmm? Is there a correlation between democratic precincts and sub-prime loans? Look at this data and one gets the idea that voter turnout may be less than expected in some communities. http://www.economicmodeling.com/resources/397_data-spotlight-a-map-of-su... I wonder what the results are if we overlay this on a county basis? http://www-personal.umich.edu/~mejn/election/
