Newt Gingrich has the Rove playbook down on Obama

Here's the video of Hannity and Newt trying to frame Obama into the neat little narrative Rove has created for him.

icon Download | play icon Download | play

Gingrich: Narcissistic, stunningly arrogant---need, daring, stunning, full of himself, out of touch, he's floating 25 feet above the ground, take a week off and get back in touch with reality, sounding goofy...

And so it goes. Newt has the playbook down. Hannity can certainly take everything Obama says out of context like the best of them.

Did they leave anything out?

Update: It does sound like Newt is describing himself....

Fact are meaningless to Republicans

I had a customer yesterday who started talking politics. And as usual the first thing a Republican mentions is welfare and

socialized medicine. I asked if she was against corporate or personal welfare, she paused, and I added because we spend 10x on

corps than peeps. Running from this she mentioned universal health care. I asked her what country has the best health care, she

said the US of course. France said I, France, you remember the country that thought invading Iraq was a mistake. She jumped

to religion saying abortion as evil and America is historically a Christian country. This let me use my favorite comeback of all

time. I said, you might not want to bring up the history of Christian Americans, because it was in the name of Jesus Christ that

Native Americans, Africans, women, children and immigrants were systematically killed or marginalized in so many ways.

It is in the name of Christ that the Republicans are raping this country, with the Democrats taking pictures.

I’m sorry but if anyone is stupid enough to fall for crap like this, from two idiots who are far richer and have opposite interests than their audience, then they are too stupid to apply reason and logic with. This works on people too dense to think or have their minds made up already and are looking for a cheap and easy excuse to vote for more irrational policies that will continue to fail.

Seriously, does anyone know someone personally who listens to Hannity? If so, I feel your pain, what are these people like? I used to know a few of them but they've wised up a bit in the last few years. Back then though, they made my blood boil.

The antidote is to do the same back at McCain, but instead of emphasizing perceived weaknesses (as the Obama-smearers do) hammer on McCain's REAL weaknesses:

Guy Reel (Common Dreams): McCain Unhinged: The Must Issue for the Obama Campaign

..Just ask yourself — what are the broad resonant themes about Republicans and about McCain? That is, what negative truths do voters think of when they think of Republican government and when they think of McCain?
In the Republicans’ case, it’s policies that favor the rich but hurt the little guy. And, perhaps to a lesser extent, it’s incompetence in government, and a tendency toward corruption and arrogance.

Next, and this should be even easier: What is the overriding stereotypical view of John McCain? What charges about him resonate with voters? What are the most common images of him on cable, in print, on late-night talk shows? Heck, what’s the first thing you think of when you see him?

To be blunt: He’s a crazy old man who can’t keep his stories straight. He’s a doddering fool. He’s a dangerous, burning fuse that cannot be trusted with the reins of government. It’s not so much that he’s a flip-flopper but that he doesn’t even remember his flips or flops. Even his own campaign says to ignore him. He shouts at clouds and the children who run across his lawn.

You get the idea. And these resonant images and feelings fit in perfectly with voters’ resonant feelings about Republicans — the GOP nominee is an angry, arrogant, man whose policies, when he can remember them, will favor the rich and escalate the Bush incompetencies.

It must be said that this isn’t about mere politics, although it would be an effective way to fight back against the highly negative campaign McCain is running. This is THE crucial issue of the campaign. These are dangerous times. We cannot afford to elect a doltish, forgetful, rash warmonger to lead the nation...

Things have to get really bad in this country, and I mean REALLY bad, before people wake if, that is if the American public has the capacity to wake up and pay attention. If McCain gets elected, it will be just what the American people as a whole deserve. I will be voting for Kucinich since Obama has moved to the right after clinching the nomination.

Just remember this: we get the government we deserve, not the government we want. First, I agree with your assessment of the situation. However, I disagree with you on your vote. Obama has moved to the center, because that is where you need to be to win elections. His center, I would point out, is much more to the left than the GOP center.

You're vote is yours, so I'll leave it there. However, please do remember to vote.

The Republicans attack strengths, not weaknesses. They reframe the strengths into liabilities. Kerry's service record was attacked. His education was elitism. And so on.

The same thing is now happening to Obama. His popular appeal is silly celebrity.

We need to do the same thing to McCain.

Mavarick - not a team player (the Republicans have anticipated this, see their recent ads talking about how his efforts are so bi-partisan).

Straight talker - shoots his mouth off.

Hero - two dimensional, not very experienced in other areas.

You don't have to attack the perceived strength, just reframe the issue using negative words.

Only Faux would choose the one man who shut down the government in 1996 because he was asked to sit in the back of Air Force One to comment on narcisism.

What had been a noble battle for fiscal sanity began to look like the tirade of a spoiled child..The revolution, I can tell you, was never the same."

this is more of the same. this is just another dose of culture war just on higher end. they know there demographics/viewership....isolated (R) conservatives looking for more empowerment to hate liberals. these people are convinced from being told we don't like them. this is a big part of this movement that has been going on for 8-10 years people are living/moving to a community where people think and act like them. it's the ultimate continuation of division. for the lower economic spectrum and possibly evangelicals there told we don't like them because they are religious. on the other end the wealthy we want to tax them more. it's much complicated then this but you get the idea. if your middle class and educated your a threat. these people on the (R) want/need reasons to dislike the liberals it gives empowerment and purpose. personally i believe obama is fully aware of this phenomena.

I'm not as big a fan of Obama as I was a month ago...but I say again, he's got my support, and my vote in Nov...
This country simply cannot afford McCain...he would bring this country down in a smoldering heap.
Which is why I ask those who would write in Kucinich, or Paul, or any other candidate...don't. If you're sick of BushCo's failed policies, ya gotta go for Obama.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I am tired of the intellectual dishonesty that is the whole argument that a vote not casted for Obama or McCain is a vote for McCain. No, it is not... it is a vote for another person who is not McCain nor Obama.

Last I checked this is a democracy, and people get to exercise their right to vote for whomever they feel like voting.

If all you and your fellow Dem supporters have to convince people to vote for them is fear, I am afraid to say that it doesn't make you guys look any better than the GOP. Alas peas of the same pod...

Regardless, I fail to see why you or any disgruntled progressive would vote for someone that has no chance of winning.

You forgot the "citizen of the (new) world (order)" and "replace the bowling alley with a basketball court" code words.

Funny how they never mention that it was Reagan that removed the solar panels from the White House and with a GOP Congress undid all of Jimmy Carter's legislation and directives to research and develop alternative fuels, promote conservation and see new energy sources.

Also, they never mention that deregulation is partially to blame for the current runaway state of the economy, and yes gas prices in particular.

A lot of our current troubles can be tracked to legislation executed by their saint Raygun. Alas, during that time... there were a few Dem houses if I recall.

i missed when powell and rice spoke in front of 200k in berlin

anyone know what newt was talking about? anyone care?

the last president who was a humble man was jimmy carter and the repugs reamed him for it

and we all know, these are code words for uppity

and newt is a fucking racist

Carter was a humble man...a TRUE Christian...who has lived the rest of his life being an example to others with his charity work...in which he GETS HIS HANDS DIRTY...and Jimmy Carter may have been the most intellectual of all our Presidents. The man was a freakin' nuclear scientist.

I have always said that Carter was too smart to be president. He was logical instead of political.

well... except for the shah....

hannity trains hasselbeck of the view as well. he gives her talking points. i was wondering where the ignorant and hateful rant was coming from. found out it was training on top of natural talent.

You know what frosts my butt about this whole exchange, more than anything, (and I concede that it's a minor point)?

The way the Hannity calls him "Mr. Speaker". He is NOT "Mr. Speaker" anymore. He is Former Georgia Rep. Gingrich. He is Former Speaker of the House...at best. He is NOT "Mr. Speaker".

That's Nancy Pelosi, (as frustrated as I am with her). Besides, how many Speakers of the House have there been since Newtie was in? Does Hannity call Denny Hastert "Mr. Speaker"?

He left out that he's a secret Muslim, that he's a secretly America-hating Christian, and that he is beloved by white women. This is all scheduled to come back the week before the election.

Well, according to some polls Obama is in a free fall wrt to McCain, so progressives should vote for McCain then?

Following similar lines of thought... should progressives eat shit, after all a trillion flys can't be wrong.

I am tired of the Dems assuming they have the liberal vote no matter what. I am starting to suspect that the DNC and DLC assumed that it was easier to leave the GOP on their own devices, let'em screw things royally and then simply get the votes by default. It seems a fairly easier approach than having to actually work and do something to earn votes, so I can't blame them... it is an optimal strategy is the main goal is to maximize results with the smallest effort.
