mccain's real record regarding MLK holiday....mcLie's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vfp5K6jwJ4U

Some people really really want to see Obama tonight (courtesy of wonkette):
http://denver.craigslist.org/tix/816812526.html

Meanwhile, you can't pay people to show up at McCain's rally:
http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/oh/story/news/local/2008/08/28/...

..well, its a matter of time when actually start paying people. Afterall, Mitt MoneyBags will be there.

McCain, to Counter Age Problem, Picks Chinese Gymnast as VP

Anybody see that Cindy McCain's half sister is voting for Obama? She said she wouldn't vote for McCain, even if her were a Democrat! She said that she believes Obama's messages are more positive, and that she is "not a big war believer.

So,
I have a quick question for the commentators here: I'm a steady C&L reader(not commentator), and have occasionally looked at some of the disgruntled Hillary websites(for amusement purposes), and found NoQuarter (i refuse to link to it) to be particularly batshit crazy.
My question is: WTF is the deal with the author; Larry C. Johnson? Seriously, this guy's resume sounds like he should be a relatively well adjusted, intelligent individual who seems like he would be politically aligned with the republicans, if nothing else. Is this why he's launching this die-hard Hillary thing? Is he hoping to drum up enough malcontent to swing things in favor of McCain? I know we're trying not to reopen this can of worms, and put this business behind us, but this is an honest question and I just want to know if this guy took a dive off the crazy tree or what. Because if it's genuine, and this guy really is a counter-terrorism adviser, I'm fucking scared.

Thanks

Greenwald sums up the GOP Personality War nicely:

http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/08/28/dnc/index.html

If, in fact, the polls are that close coupled with the Diebold paperless evoting machines (which should have been outlawed) we are on the verge of losing what should have been a massive landslide victory.

Looks like Grandpa is feeling just a bit grumpy:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/28/mccain-gets-prickly-durin_n_122...

If it's possible for the dead to be aware of things happening on earth (and I do not believe it is) but if it were, I think MLK would be pretty happy today.

Each week we call Thursday night, Bistro Night. My husband fixes something special for dinner and we celebrate only one day left in the work week. We've been doing this for years and we just have fun with it. So when we found out Obama was going to give his speech on Bistro Night, we joked that he arranged it that way just for us. So Happy Bistro night to everyone! Yes, cocktails are included.

remember this gem from mittens......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vfp5K6jwJ4U

I hope Obama asks him those questions during the first debate. Someone should show Obama episodes of MTV's "Boiling Point" show.

#8, Grumpy Grandpa:

I just love his short, curt answers.....sounds like something Bush does.

This guy's scaring me more and more every day.

McCain will be on Fox News Sunday. Lately the host of that show (Chris Wallace?) has been pretty fair handed with his guest. I'm wondering if he will pander to McCain or put a little pressure on him. Let's hope for the latter. Of course by that point in time McCain will have named his veep so talking about that will suck up most of the time.

40 years ago, MLK was in his grave, sadly.

I do hope Obama references McSame's blockade of the MLK holiday tonight.

Cheers POP! I'll be toasting this historic night right along with you!

Clintons appearance on the floor of the Democratic Convention during the states delegate count was incredible. She showed strength and an honest ability to put whats important in front of her own "defeat". I doubt former Pres. Clinton could have done the same with such honor and respect(though i still love the man).

I have been a strong supporter of Barack all year but with deep respect and secret hope for Sen. Clinton. I honestly would have been happy to see her with the primaries.

But now, after focused study of the past year of primary speeches and state-crawlings by all democatratic contenders, I find myself a little uneasy with the way things have ultimately panned out.

I think it was a mistake to choose the honorable and respected Sen. Biden. The initial polls seem to express my same discord.

Barack should have chosen who the people wanted, Sen. Hillary Clinton for Vice President. I feel that residual bad feelings from the hard-fought primaries may have influenced Baracks decision. His defiance to even vet her or choose her also may show his lack of true confidence and leadership abilities. Is this attitude he seems to hold against Hillary an example of the change he signifies? Because it looks like the same back-biting and grudge-holding that Washington has been famous for, forever.

I am disapointed. Thats all. Hopeful, but truly disapointed. But i have never, nor will i ever vote republican, so i stand behind our impressive Senators, the newest and nearly oldest members of the Washington "boys club"

Obama is criticized for thinking before he speaks. The repubs are just jealous because we have a candidate who can think.

McStain @ 15:

Cheers POP! I'll be toasting this historic night right along with you!

Can you see this big smile on my face? It's there!

Would MLK be happy? Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Obama supporter and can't wait until I get to elect him, but the point of MLK's speech is that he hoped for a day when a person would be judged not on the color of his skin but the content of his character. It just seems to me that we've learned an awful lot in the last year about how many people still judge people by the color of their skin. And it isn't just GOPers. Frankly, I think the only reason the polls are so close is because of the color of his skin, sadly, because this one election should be a cakewalk like never before.

It is unimaginably unbelieveable to me that there are still "Americans"who are fighting hard against any of our citizens being given an equal chance.

The site seems to be back and as good as new. Hopefully it can stay that way. A big thanks to every one of the C&L crew who have been working to get things back to normal. You guys and ladies did good and we all appreciate it.

It is also extremely important and relevant to recall the words that Dr. King spoke on April 4, 1967 at Manhattan's Riverside Church when he noted that "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today [is] my own government." One wonders if Barack Obama will cite Dr. King's words from that speech, when MLK stated that "in the North [of Vietnam], where our bombs now pummel the land..." during his acceptance speech tonight. But that prospect seems extremely dubious since the [alleged] antiwar candidate wishes not to lessen but to ADD more troops to the occupation of Afghanistan. Will Obama point out how the United States should be charged with war crimes, especially with the latest slaughter of Aghans, when U.S. planes dropped 500 lb. bombs which killed 90 civilians and 60 of those killed were children? The chances of that happening also are quite dim since Obama desire to add more troops will then add more misery and suffering to the Afghan people.

Dems need to promise to start working on the separation of church and state thing.

I wish his Vietnam Speech was canonized as much as his I Have a Dream is. The issues of classism, militarism and justice he touched on in that speech was just stunning.

Erroll@22
Thank you, that was a great and relevant speech. MLK was lambasted by the "Conservatives"(and the MSM) after that speech.....The same lying fucking conservatives who now claim that MLK was their "hero".

And of course to get it really out there on YouTube, title it "Hot Lesbian Sex." That usually works.

So... should we be making wagers now on whether the Republicans 45 years hence will be claiming to represent Obama better than the Democrats of that day do?

she is “not a big war believer. well we will try to keep it as small as we can!

The best thing this country could do to honor MLK would be to have a real, honest investigation into who killed him and why.

Bob Schieffer was just on Fox. He says he is close friends with McCain and has known him for a long time. Which explains why Bob thinks being shot down in a plane is a qualification for being president. Anyway he thinks Meg Whitman is a good possibility to be McCain's choice for vice president. I didn't know who she was so I looked her up on Wiki. Seems she's worth, as of 2007, 1.4 billion dollars. She was "President and Chief Executive Officer of eBay from March 1998 to March 2008..."

Sounds about right to me. A rich woman much younger than McCain (she was born in 1956) If he doesn't choose her, maybe he could marry her.

Preview of the Republican National Convention

Day 1: American Freedom

Pat Buchanan
Reviving his "pyromaniac with a flamethrower" act from 1992, Pat will talk about the necessity of keeping America free -- free of gays, free of Jews, free of Muslims, free of health care, free of liberals, free of uppity blacks who think they can be president.

Mitt Romney
Building on a theme from his candidacy, Romney will elaborate on how it is simply impossible to maintain a free society without a theocracy. Boos, hisses and cries of "Burn the Mormon heretic!" coming from the evangelical delegation will be spun on FUX News as "what real unity looks like."

Video
Loyal Americans will be treated to a poignant montage of all the suffering in the world we have caused with our foreign policy. Backed up by flutes and snare drums merrily whistling tunes from the American Revolutionary war, and occasionally punctuated by applause and canned laugher, images of death and destruction in the Middle East will be flashed across the screen, with the words "Freedom and Democracy on the March" transposed in red, white and blue.

Pat Roberts
The Kansas Senator will deliver an address entitled, "You Don't Have Civil Liberties If Your Dead."

Headline Speaker: Cindy McCain
Hopped up on pain killers, heiress and wife of the presumptive presidential nominee will deliver a beautifully soporific stream of consciousness about how America is the best country in the world -- and how she's ALWAYS thought so -- as it has given her everything she ever wanted: Her own pony when she was young; a fortune she did not need to share with her non-existent siblings; and a guy to marry to take her to yet another among her innumerable houses, this one known by its purity of color -- WHITE!

Benediction: Mike Huckabee
Huckabee will lead the congregation of Republicans in a prayer that the Constitution be amended to conform to the standards of the living god.

Day 2: IOKIYAR

Larry Craig
Toilet paper awkwardly stuck to his shoes, Craig will deliver an impassioned speech about how he is not gay, has never been gay, hates gays, and imploring everyone in the world to hate gays as much as he does.

David Vitter
Stepford wife on his right are, hooker on his left, Vitter, dressed in nothing but a diaper, will speak to the Republicans' sole ability to maintain family values.

Musical Interlude: Just One More Rat
Breaking protocol, the four justices from the RATS wing of the Supreme Court -- Roberts, Alito, Thomas and Scalia -- will send up a musical endorsement of the Republican Party with the song, "Give Us Just One More RAT." The song will highlight the need to curb the kind of judicial activism that recognizes civil liberties and rights not desired by majority white people, and pay tribute to the Confederacy.

Headline Speakers: Tom DeLay and Duke Cunningham
Brought out as part of a chain gang, DeLay and Cunningham will make a special joint appearance, holding themselves out as victims of an oppressive Democratic regime, but reminding people not to lose hope, as the international sex slave trade is still strong.

Benediction: Rick Warren
Warren will remind the world that the purpose of the purpose driven life is to vote Republican.

Day 3: Not a Jedi Yet

President George W. Bush
Drunk as a skunk, Bush will mangle a bunch of words as only he can, and dare the world to capture and try him for his crimes as history eventually vindicates his every move.

Vice President Dick Cheney
To the tune of the Imperial March, and covered in new, jet black robotic parts that have replaced his heart, right leg, left arm and most of his torso, Cheney walk onto the stage, lift his helmet, and scare the living shit out of everyone in attendance. He'll point out that while Obama's intelligence, education and values might make him strong, he's not a Jedi yet, and poses no threat to the American Empire. No, the only threat, he will remind us all, comes from evil Muslims, within and without, all of whom must be crushed, along with their supporters in the Democratic Party.

Keynote Address: Rudy Guiliani
Picking up where Cheney left off, Giuliani will repeat the words "Nine Eleven" nine hundred eleven times, and remind everyone that we're not safe without the strongarm tactics of the Republicans, and lambaste the youth and inexperience of a black Muslim named Hussein.

Roll Call
At Cheney's signal, all attendants on the floor will stand instantly, raise their arms and hands in a Hitlerian salute, and shout McCain! (And the as-yet-unknown name of the Vice Presidential Nominee).

Vice Presidential Acceptance Speech
Whoever it is, he'll be dressed in storm trooper uniforms, and his speech will continue the theme. Hussein Obama is a naive Jedi-in-training.

Benediction
Fred Phelps will burn pictures of fags to the tune of Onward Christian Soldier.

Day 4: The World Is Not Enough

Neo-Cons
Everyone from Bill Krystol to David Frum will regale the convention bold plans to start wars everywhere.

Preachers
Everyone from Pat Robertson to James Dobson to John Hageewill will hail the glorious end of the world, sure to come as McCain follows the neo-con plans to take over the world, spread democracy, and bring back Jesus.

Presidential Acceptance Speech
Hoisted out in a wheel barrow, and propped up on a slab, an increasingly senile John McCain will mumble non-sequiturs, talk about how he has wanted this job ever since he spent time as a POW in Vietnam so that he could finally dole out the treatment he received to POWs he captures, and declare himself president, explaining that elections are quaint anachronisms in a time of terror.

Benediction
Karl Rove will ask everyone to pray for the Democrat soles they're about to go kill to prevent an election.

Ah, Romney's almost as good a pick as Lieberman (for the Democrats, that is!). First it means TWO multi-millionaires on the ticket.
Second, it's not going to reassure the religious wingnuts who are already sceptical of McCain. Quite the opposite probably.

Personally, I was not a big MLK fan. I never embraced the idea of peacefully marching down the street while black women and children got beat with billy clubs, hosed down by water cannon and chewed on by police dogs. Malcolm X was my hero. The US govt could not risk massive nationwide armed rebellion combined with the looming danger that the communist Russian Bear might take advantage of US instability to win the Cold War. The militancy of Malcolm X forced the US govt to seek a peaceful resolution by negotiating with the much kinder & gentler negro leader, MLK. If it wasn't for Malcolm X the bad cop, MLK the good cop didn't stand a chance dealing with the criminal US Govt of the 1960s.

For example, the Republicans can only win this thing by suggesting that the less-wealthy African-American candidate who was raised by a single mother and who only recently paid off his student loans is too "exotic." Scarborough's Law dictates that Senator Obama either defend himself or Republican shills on cable and talk radio will repeat this lie over and over. And when someone from the Obama campaign responds, there's no vindication from the press -- instead, the Obama campaign is inexplicably and incongruously accused of dishonoring Senator McCain's POW experience. As Rachel pointed out, there shouldn't even be a debate about this specious GOP attack in the first place -- rather, it should be reported as false, or not reported at all considering how ass backwards it is."

In a way, I kind of hope McSame does pick Meg Whitman.....not only another example of extremely wealthy individuals trying to run this country; but also someone without political experience. McCain did mention her as one of the 3 people he would rely on heavily when Rick Warren asked him that question.

On Wikipedia, I noticed that she has given money to both Democrats and Republicans, but apparently more to Republicans....including Romney and George Macaca Allen.

That's actually true. Same choice happened generations ago with Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois.

FORTY-FIVE years ago today.

Wasn't he shot the day after he made this speech? He was shot in 1968.

#55 Alexdem....I'm not sure about Romney. He does scare the hell out of me. He's a greasy-haired cheeseball as far as I'm concerned. He is way too fake....just don't know what the hell that guy is thinking behind that eery grin of his.

pissed off patricia @ 52,

Thank you. And yes. :)

Wow! You are good.

Alexdern@55
If Grandpa McPow is really a fucking "maverick", he'll buck the GOP and pick Romney or Lieberman. This fall will be a laugh riot with either one.

Bistro Night, huh? What a great and unique way to celebrate a marriage, the end of the week and Barach Obama. Happy Bistro night to you and your hubby.

The best thing this country could do to honor MLK would be to have a real, honest investigation into who killed him and why.

Exactly. It's like supporting the troops but forgetting to provide them with assistance when the get home. It's fake.
