Conservatives starting to panic about Palin

Prominent conservatives are finally starting to realize that an unqualified half-term hockey mom from Alaska might not be the best choice to be a 72 year old heartbeat away from the presidency. Here's the brutal roundup.

Kathleen Parker:

It was fun while it lasted.

Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I’ve been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted. Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there’s not much content there.

Wingnut extaordinaire K-Lo:

I’m not where my friend Kathleen Parker is — wanting her to step aside to spend more time with her family and Alaska — but that’s not a crazy suggestion.

McCain campaign insiders, via Ed Schultz:

McCain Camp insiders say Palin “clueless”

Capitol Hill sources are telling me that senior McCain people are more than concerned about Palin. The campaign has held a mock debate and a mock press conference; both are being described as “disastrous.” One senior McCain aide was quoted as saying, “What are we going to do?” The McCain people want to move this first debate to some later, undetermined date, possibly never. People on the inside are saying the Alaska Governor is “clueless.”

Etc., etc., etc., etc.

The should panic after all if something happends to McCain and he wins ( which I doubt) Palin would be their President too and that woman is clueless to say the least.

She's hot!

She's coming undone.

The question now is, who will McCain put in her place?

Lieberman will be just as bad.

i can't help but to absolutely love this.

it amazes me that they were so careless in their VP pick. this woman is a nightmare!

my fear is this: why isn't joe biden saying ANYTHING about her? i realize that they don't want to participate in the negative aspect of campaigning -- but it's kind of an elephant in the room that this woman is an absolute disaster of a candidate and CLEARLY does not have a grasp of any important issues.

bravo C&L keep the pressure on palin. palin is the weakest link. this choice was made by mccain...it was
a poor choice.
mccain would rather win an election than use proper
judgement.

don't be surprised if the repigs
refuse to debate biden and cancel.

there will be some excuse...wait and see.

and if they do give it a try.......
they will be EMBARRASSED !!!!!!!!!!!!

Duh.

Although this sounds like the rats leaving a sinking ship, there is more pressing news to report.

I just heard that Kennedy has been hospitalized. Is that true?

when someone has fallen overboard, you can't help
them if they chose to grab a lead weight instead of a preserver.

Meanwhile, citing Palin, Putin to Seek Governorship of Alaska

She will be back in Wasilla on October 2nd. That is when her tax records are due and when she has to debate Biden.

I don't like her but I feel really sorry for her, McCain used her and damaged her severly. Had she stayed in Alaska no one would have noticed that she is lacking a few things, she would have been a fine semi-crooked gov. and could have grown old with respect. Now she is the laughing stock of the country.

These are falling like skeeters at a ddt convention. Look now of lose your chance, at the CandidateI'dLiketoFornicatewith...

when given the proverbial rope some people hang
themselves. the people that support palin want the
opposition to say something negative so they can cry
'sexism'....i don't agree with it, but we have a demographic that is living in a world of self-deception.

i cant wait for her debate. i hope shes as bad as they say she is. should be a good watch.

you know though, this may be a ploy! you know, get our expectations low. she'll still lose the debate, but if she doesn't bomb it and comes out swinging at least a couple of times, she might be praised anyway.

I'm betting that she "resigns" suddenly about Monday and Mitt comes to the Rescue Sunday night - yeah she will be forced out and Mitt will come out with his "business" background. The other alternative is Rudy who will talk about his vast experience as mayor of New York City. But, she will never debate - that would be the end. McCain is impulsive, volatile and kind of mean down to the bone these days. It is really looking like early dementia to me - I watched my dad turn very quickly into a mean, racist, impulsive ass with a temper that would go off on a dime - but it was not the man I knew all my life - it was the result of early Alzheimer's. I really hope that it isn't, but damn - it looks like it.

Palin can be described in two words: Dan Quayle.

What's this? Palin's a retard and the connies are figuring it out?

$700 billion says she'll never debate

By the way, I've got a pal who's in the landscape binness and when the half-yard bucket on his skip loader developed a bad crack, I suggested he examine Scarah's jaw for a replacement, since shes gonna need a real job someday...

SURPRISE! (not!)

That was OT and you know it. But its your sandbox.

rudy'd not take it now, when his firm stands to make millions and millions in the rectification process after the "credit crisis" is funded...

Political Animal has a great discussion of Palin's comments about passports:

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2008_09/014908.php

Come on. She is pro-gun, anti-abortion, and loves Jesus. For many r/w voters, that is enough. Just because some GOP heavyweights are getting nervous about Sarah, it doesn't mean the rank and file GOP, Evangelical voter is. Even if she comes off looking dumber than a log in a debate, they will prefer her. Come on - they didn't vote twice for GWB because of his brains.

[Topic: Conservatives starting to panic about Palin. Site Monitor]

This is what you get when you mix religion and politics.
She was the hand picked choice of the agents of intolerance and McCain had to cave to their demands if he wanted their support.
The Repugs should be mad at Dobson, Lehay,Scaith et al for forcing Palin onto the ticket.

She wasn't smart enough to say, "No" when she was asked to join the ticket. She's clueless to her own un-electability. She has the arrogance of ignorance. I'm sure she believed that she was the missing piece to the presidential puzzle, Yup, Yup.

I agree that "Cut and Run" McCain used her, but she was a willing participant.

I honestly thought that McCain couldn't have made a worse choice than Lieberman, but then Palin came along. I was and remain astounded.

Do you think that they're trying to tank this election? Did Bush the lesser fu(k things up so badly that they want a Democrat to choke on it?

Agreed. No need to pour gasoline on a house already ablaze. Every time she opens her mouth, it gets worse. Let her bring herself down: she's doing a great job of that on her own. Biden needn't say a thing, not yet.

Just a word of caution here.

This may be all part of a massive Lowering Expectations Plan™ by the GOP, timed to peak at the time of the VP debate. They're very very good at this.

If she manages to not be a complete embarrassment vs Biden, look for all of the MSM to be positively ecstatic and swooning once again...

And for her not to speak to the press again...

and McCain gains 5 points in the polls.

The sad thing about this?

McCain made this choice for purely political reasons............not for a second did he think about the country. This was all about making a choice that would help him win the election.

Contrast that with Obama's pick of Biden. Biden is absolutely qualified for the VP job, and could easily be the President. He provided strength against Obama's weakness; and he's a solid choice in anyone's book.

McCain has made his bed, and now he's going to have to sleep in it. The right thing to do for everyone concerned is admit the mistake and have Palin bow out gracefully. But that will never happen.

Oh well............sucks to be McCain!

I have to believe that many conservatives who profess "Country First" will be forced to reconsider their support of McCain.

McCain's judgement is what is most frightening. Sarah Palin is simply in way over her head. She's the perfect neo-con candidate. Easily manipulated by her advisors. Cocksure like 'W' with a Cheney worldview. Scary. Scary.

Evangelicals will be praying for McCain's demise if elected... the Rapture the Rapture.

You are right. She has the right way to answer. Talking points. Keith noted the other day. All she has to do is fill in the blanks when key words are given to her. I can't understand why no one is ever called on not answering the question posed. It would seem like a very good move against her rote repetition of the talking points fed to her by the campaign. Reflect her answer back to her and ask if she answered then ask her again! Then you'd really see the dear in the headlights look that beauty contestant types generally have.

If anyone thinks McCain is in charge, I have bridge I'll let you have cheap. There hasn't been a republican president in the last 30 years that was in charge. They all have been talking heads for greater powers behind them. Hell, Ronald Reagan slept through most of his last term.

As for Hockey Mom, just give her some more rope, there's lots more rakes to step on...

While I admire some of the wingnuts fessing up to not being impressed with Palin, it only makes them look all the more stupid. These are primarily the same people who backed her immediately without knowing the slightest thing about her. They praised her and to an extend still do, they are just saying she is a PR disaster. When your instincts pan out to be dead wrong, it is probably better to just be quiet and keep it to yourself. They are admitting that they are complete fools, yet still want to provide their so-called wisdom on other matters.

All that are having this sudden unease should be reminded of their fine judgement each time they preach about something in the future.

I haven't quite finished reading this, but it is about the 2000 campaign and "The Trashing of John McCain" and how that works into his campaign in 2008. Ruthless Republicans. Just unbelievable.

Speaking in tongues can be subconsciously triggered, or so I've read.

Can anyone quote a passage in the Bible that refers to witches?

"Turn out the lights, the party's over"
Sara, don't let the doorknob hit you in your ass as your leave.
PS-would the LAST republican loser in Washington, please turn off the lights?

Although this sounds like the rats leaving a sinking ship, there is more pressing news to report.

I just heard that Kennedy has been hospitalized. Is that true?

Yes, true

Tweety just said he'll go home tonight and probably watch the debate.

Been there, done tat. It is not subconsciously triggered. It is peer pressure plain and simple.

The McPain Kampf is putting this out, just to lower the bar* so much, that if she can put two meaningful

sentences together in the VP debate, the news the next day will range from..

she did fine to SHE WON THE DEBATE!

*remember how GWB won the debate because they lowered the expectations so low
