McCain's Awful Record on Troop and Veterans' Issues
By Cernig Tuesday Sep 30, 2008 7:30pmDuring the recent debate with Barack Obama, John McCain stated that "I know the veterans, I know them well, and I know that they know that I'll take care of them". Obama let it slide, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Our good friend Brandon Freidman of VetVoice has done some excellent work researching and compiling the Master List of how little McCain cares for troops and veterans. It's a must-read post that's too detailled to excerpt but it comprehensively lists all the times McCain: refused to support veterans by refusing to vote for veteran benefits, healthcare and support; refused to support the troops in combat by voting against extra armor for them; refused to support the troops by first cheerleading for and then voting for enmiring America in Bush's war of choice in Iraq; refused to support the real front in Afghanistan by continually voting against any withdrawal from Iraq. It also lists a whole slew of McCain's foreign policy gaffes, pointing to systemic ignorance and bad judgement rather than a few accidental mis-speakings. Brandon has included sources for his list and YouTube videos to back many of the items.
Seriously, you'll want to read and cite this list often. His support for veterans and troops is a big part of McCain's pitch but in reality it's simply mythology created out of whole cloth.
And so is McCain's "judgement" on Iraq.
McCain: "We're going to win this victory. Tragically, we will lose American lives. But it will be brief. We're going to find massive evidence of weapons of mass destruction . . . It's going to send the message throughout the Middle East that democracy can take hold in the Middle East." (Fox News, Hannity & Colmes, 2/21/03)

We all know that McSame is a liar... and we all know he doesn't know the first thing about really supporting the troops. Hold his feet to the fire, people!!! This fucktard doesn't deserve to get away with this big fat lie.
seriously who says shit like this... We're going to win this victory?!
The man's a knob!
We must have victory in
VietnamIraq!! Must win! I didn't wind up a POW for five years for nothing, dammit.Did I mention I was a POW?
Can we please game this stupid MSNBC poll on whether Gwen Ifill is a good choice for moderator? It's 30/70 against her right now.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26979447/?GT1=43001
McCain created a personality for himself and a history too. It's all a sham and we know it. Other than being a POW, what about him is sincere and truthful. McCain, just like bush, is all about what's in it for him and to hell with anyone else or anyone who gets in his way.
When he drops his voice and goes into his "gentle" voice, beware because he's going to lie.
Keith just kicked ass about the bs coming from the right about Ifill. He had a time line regarding when her book was announced and when the McCain campaign agreed for her to be the debate monitor. He made them look like total fools.
Yep. I still can't believe Obama didn't cruicify McCain on this bullshit.
You know, I tired of the Repugs using our troops as Political points. Now I know why military members gave more money to Obama than McCain. This shit has got to end.
DRST @ 4:
I couldn't find the place to vote on that page.
The right is showing their desperation to the max with this bs about Ifill. Don't they understand that some people can be professional aside from their personal lives? I guess after being exposed to Fox for so long they have lost perspective.
ewwww look at that... The eye thing has happened before
My friends, these damn troops these days, don't know what it is like to be a POW. I didn't have any health care for 5 years, I didn't have a house or a chair.
pissed off patricia @ 8:
It took a while to load but it came right up, right at the top, for me.
I saw a McCain sticker on the back of a pickup truck this morning. Then a little further down a sticker claiming to support "Wounded Warriors" I wanted to ask the man how he could have both on his car since Johnny-boy clearly doesn't support the wounded veterans.
MsJoanne @ 11:
IMO, She will scrutinize Biden even more. And Obama.
I have no reason at this point, to question her integrity.
MsJoanne @ 11:
Tried it again, waited unitl the tray said it was "done"........and still nothing. Guess they don't care what I think.
At this point, any excuse the right can come up with to claim shenanigans and cover for Palin's total incompetence is better than none, I guess.
“We’re going to win this victory. Tragically, we will lose American lives. But it will be brief. We’re going to find massive evidence of weapons of mass destruction . . . It’s going to send the message throughout the Middle East that democracy can take hold in the Middle East.”
updated for the times...
“We’re going to win this victory. Tragically, we will lose American's money. But it will be brief.
We’re going to find massive evidence of fraud and deception . . . It’s going to send the message throughout Wall Street that democracy can take hold on Main Street.”
They have set the bar on Palin so low. As long as she doesn't fall on her face or fart, the MSM will call it a tie.
I'd like to see a TV ad run with McCain saying:
“I know the veterans, I know them well, and I know that they know that I’ll take care of them”.
While he speaks, list a few of his disgusting votes.
DRST @ 4:
Done!!
McManchurian Candidate made propaganda films for Viet Charley, yet you expect him to support veterans? If John McSongbird is a hero, so is Jane Fonda.
DRST @ 4:
I was going to vote, but I had no idea what the book she is writing is about. Also, I couldn't comment on her stellar record because I quit watching Washington Week because it was a bunch of right wing propaganda.
that is absolutely fucked up. that is all.
pissed off patricia @ 5:
KO doesn't need to make them look like fools. They are fools.
P.D. @ 17:
All this talk of a low bar. Maybe she'll just do a limbo dance and get declared a winner.
Oh, I see. We'll only lose those lives briefly. That makes me feel much better.
I recently moved to a very, very red state with a huge Army presence. I have to admit, I was absolutely shocked with the opinions I have heard regarding the war in Iraq.
I would say in the week and a half that I have lived here, I have talked to about 10 people where Iraq has come up.
Not one single person has shown even the slightest support for the war in Iraq. Not one.
Most of these people are vets, military brats or active duty personnel.
So...when John McCain says he knows these people, he is either a) lying or even worse, b) he just doesn't care about them.
For me, I came from being in a Navy community to an Army community. In 10 days, I have already seen more amputees than I care to see for the rest of my life.
I never supported the war. But now, it hits a lot closer to home. It's so very sad to see these Soldiers, so clearly stressed and so clearly burned out, trying to wade through the mountains of paperwork they have to go through to get the service they were promised when they joined.
I implore everyone, contact your representatives and spread the word that our troops deserve the service they were promised, without the endless red tape. These men and women really need someone to speak for them folks. I had no idea until now. They really need us.
I am convinced that hannity is an idiotic moron.
Incredible work by Brandon Friedman. Absolutely outstanding.
I can't help but wonder what Admirals Papa and Grampa McCain would be thinking of their boy if they were still alive... (I sorta wonder the same thing about George HW Bush...when I don't wanna bitch-slap him into next year for raising the overgrown Ivy League fratboy who currently parks his sorry @$$ in the Oval Office.)
...."And if elected, I McBraindead will make all thoes who died come back to life. Of course they will be taxed and charged funeral expences." "And I Shawn Hand-u-crap will be there reporting it, as it WON'T be televised."

Kathy, Already done... I put this out over the weekend:

Mccain hates the average vet as he feels they are stupid for not marrying a rich younger woman. he is without honor.
McCain and the rightwingers do not support "the troops", what they support is the military option. Any trouble in the world (i.e., any trouble for corporate interests) don't bother with trying to figure out the reasons for the trouble or use diplomacy to solve it, simply send in "the troops" and any criticism of the tactic is criticism of our "brave fighting men and women who deserve our support and a victory!" Meanwhile, the war profiteers have carte blanche to drain the treasury.
I'm still waiting for someone to dig up the article Sydney Schanberg published in the Village Voice a few years ago. Schanberg described how McCain and John Kerry, together on a Senate investigative committee, colluded to bury evidence, including photographic and eyewitness evidence, that U.S. POWs abandoned by the U.S. in SE Asia survived for perhaps decades after 1975. That Kerry was in on it too suggests that both parties wanted to be able to blackmail the other into silence about the issue. I can't think of a more evil thing than what these two did, and I'd love for the truth to be hung around both their necks.
"France will be isolated from Europe?!?!?" What a freaken moron. The U.S. has been isolated from the world!
Go find a country with a drum to beat you dead-beat moron.
Please do go to the list at Vet Voices everybody. Spend the paper on printing it out and showing it to your diehard Maverick Believers.
It's an encyclopedia of betrayal of our troops by John Sidney McCain III.
how about a link, No One You Know, to the article that incriminates both Kerry and McCain?
Shouldn't these two morons be in jail??? Yes.
Why isn't McCain's awful record on veteran's issues getting out to the veterans. A few days ago I read this ridiculous piece in WaPo about a core group of "brothers in arms" supporting him. This information needs to get out there.
Word is that the troops are 6:1 in favor of Obama. After seeing this vid, I'm surprised McCain has got even this much support.
McSame deserves to share the same trash can of history that Bush will occupy after Jan09.
Hannity always seems to have a confused expression on his face. It's weird.
It's as if he pretends to listen, and can't wait to hear his own voice?
It should be the Veterans' Organizations that have already called McCain on his record that should be all over the MSM telling the country exactly how they feel about it. MSM should not let him get away with it but of course, they will. I hope responsible journalists, the two or three still out there, will at least offer Veterans' Organizations a forum to pound the elder Senator every day until the election on it. The sad truth, a large part of the electorate won't believe it.
Wow! Nathan Lane worked for Fox...!
The quotes from McCain get to the heart of why he is unfit for the Presidency. His wisdom, judgment, and intelligence are nonexistent. I am reminded of Martin Luther King's comment that the longevity of one's life is not so important as its quality. The same can be said about the longevity of one's tenure on the political scene. All this ballyhooed nonsense about experience is meaningless, if your judgment and wisdom are as worthless as McCain's, Cheney's, Palin's, Rumsfeld's, etc. This is why Barack Obama stands head and shoulders above all these idiots.
This clip should be shown on the networks every time that McCain brags about his support for the surge. In hindsight, we ignored the good counsel of the French and the Germans and we bought off the Latvians and Romanians. Where did it get us?
McCain: "Tragically, we will lose American lives. But it will be brief..."
Why don't you tell the families of these soldiers that 'it'll be brief'?
"We’re going to find massive evidence of weapons of mass destruction..."
Um, yeah, good luck with that Grampa.
Common/Sense '08
Ok, I want someone, anyone, to help me. It all started when I couldn't figure out why veterans were so angry at McCain. I looked at his voting record and it became very clear, it's like he hates them. He doesn't support anything that benefits them. Then I started digging to figure out why he would do such a thing. Logic says, this is a no brainer, support the troops, they save our butts, especially when you are a veteran.
Then I came across the hearings on the MIA's from the Vietnam war and it dawned on me. He doesn't want those records unsealed, of his own doings while a POW.
Kerry, personally unsealed his when the Swiftboat thing came up, but McCain never has and I bet he never will.
So, my logic says, If you are using your "hero" status to qualify you for being the President, then your record is fair game.
I understand why Obama can't do it, but how about some of you and I guess we have to hand feed it to the press. Although I just saw that a British TV station was beginning to interview Vietnamese who were involved. Check out link below for some very interesting reading. Sorry I lost the link for the TV broadcast. I'll try to find it again.
