Andy K here blogging about Andy Kaufman (no relation), who's on the same stage with Wolfman Jack? Whelp, there goes that theory.
h/t to Ben Folds (yes, THAT Ben Folds) for sending us the link.
Open thread below...

hope he pops in tonite
ben, i want to thank you for remaining the most innovative and original talents in pop
your idea for an accapella album of your songs is brilliant
and thank you for having julia nunez open for you
and i wish is was a woman so i could bare your children
the battle for who could care less is tied with white punks on dope for the best teen slacker song of all time
and i still miss andy
We'll have to ask Max about that.
I'll give you an inside look at the sausage-making process that produced this post:
Ben sent the clip to Max. Max forwarded the clip to the team at C&L. I made the comment to the team about having my Andy Kaufman is Wolfman Jack theory blown to pieces (my original comment was a bit more salty). bluegal laughed, and I shared with her that one of our old pals- lafin gas or Stanley Rosenthal (HIYA, STANLEY!), I think- once asked me if C&L commenter Andy K is actually Andy Kaufman. The rest, as they say, is history. Group effort. I thank bluegal for crediting me with this post, but I just cracked a joke. Much credit to go around.
BTW, I've been a big Kaufman fan for over three decades now. I recall seeing Andy for the first time on, iirc, a Dick VanD-Y-K-E(guess which word gets automatically censored here) summer variety show doing It's A Small World (this is another recording, made later, I think), and ROFLMFAO. I was 11 or 12. Good times...
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
now that is funny
From his original name:
Penis van Lesbian.
Take it from someone who lives amongst the largest population of Dutch people outside of the Netherlands. Our phonebook has got to have the largest "V" section in the US.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
I was lucky enough to see Andy perform on various TV shows and this clip is a classic of what he liked to do.
Taking your assumptions and turning them on their ear.
The best one besides his Mighty Mouse bit on SNL was the staged fight on the show "Fridays".
...he uses big words like 'particularly' and 'delicatessen.' -- Jack
which made it even funnier
i still think his take on wrestling was the greatest performance art ever created...as it went on for months
This guy was so far ahead of his time. The world really misses you Andy.
depressed this week.
for 17 years, this very weekend, i would make the trek down to san diego for the greatest gathering of freaks and geeks the world has ever known...san diego comic con.
it was the only time during the year that i felt normal, surrounded by thousands who shared my same passion.
i got to meet the greats...there was nothing more thrilling than shaking hands and chatting with jack kirby, neal gaimna, neil adams, etc (once had an hour chat with adams about quantum physics and his theories on the creation of the universe...brilliant)
then, in 2000, hollywood discovered the con...and they destroyed it
sure...the comic geeks still come...but they are dwarfed by the likes of the twilight moms and their fucking tweener brats.
the same people who think there is something wrong with me, now fill the halls and have turned my kind into a minority at our own con
and so...i no longer make the trek...no longer get that release...and have to live with my geekiness alone
and so...this weekend, i am pretty bummed out
That sucks. Is nothing 'sacred' anymore.
That's the route Toronto's Gay Pride has gone. When I saw the mayor on the lead float and all the banks advertising like crazy, well, it kinda lost its original flavour. Now it's a big TV commercial.
far left loon >.<
Do you like to fish??
If you have the dough for the gasoline I'll bet you could get my boys to take you out on their tuna fishing boat for a little trip to Catalina!
Depending on the weather, you'd have a great time and maybe catch some choice albacore or hali's?
They're good guys! (And sober too!)
Hate to see you have a bummer weekend in So. Cal. (especially when I'm in The Berkshires enduring the northern jet streams relentless dumping of 60 degree rain/thunder and lightning on us day after freakin' day!)
At least you're having SUMMER!!!
"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn
but it aint comic con...
and i cant eat the fish...sorta have an aversion to fish
and im not really getting a summer...thanks to the economy, im working twice as hard, for half the pay...and im scared everyday that ill screw something up and lose even this part time pay/full time job
its why i really needed the con this year
guess ill just head over the comics journal board and bitch with all the other elitest geeks
I had a bad feeling that John Waters' films were going to get too diluted when I saw Crybaby on opening day. It was Good Friday, I think, so the kids were out of school, and I was surrounded in the theater by teenaged girls and their moms who came to see a Johnny Depp (then just the star of 21 Jump Street) flick. I'm cracking up left and right at every trashy joke, and these girls are staring at me like I'm some kinda freak.
Thankfully Waters continued to do what made me love him and his films in the first place...But it was a very close call.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
And some day I'll tell you about my visit to Harlan Ellison's house, "Ellison Wonderland". In the meantime...speaking of Comic-Con, there's a panel tomorrow with the creator of this:

Check out the trailer, I'd be interested in hearing what you think.
"Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous Communist plot we have ever had to face?" - General Jack D. Ripper
ive been to a couple of his lectures....but his real home? and he didnt kick you out?
warren ellis is finally returning to the con this year...and im missing it
im still checking to see if hell hath frozen over
nice preview for the game
is that hamill doing the joker?
That was one amazing house. Looked like the set from "Alien" crossed with a labrynthine Mayan temple...inside AND out...and filled with thousands and thousands of books. Books floor to ceiling everywhere...in ornately carved built-in bookcases...and those were some TALL ceilings. Twenty feet in places.
I was there in one of my former incarnations...as a photographer...shooting the album cover for a thing he did called "On the Road with Ellison" back about 1983. I believe it was Volume One...him hitch-hiking with his typewriter. I wanted to do it out in the Mojave desert...he wanted to do it in his house against a white backing. Whatever.
Funny thing was...I pitched him an idea for another photo I wanted to do of him...based on a painting called "The Death of Marat" by Jacques-Louis David. Just thought it was a great image, and would be a cool image for a contemporary writer like him. Hell, I even told him just let me do it...use it for your Christmas cards....anything. He knew the image, thought about it for a second, then told me it was too bizarre. Told me it was a crazy idea.
Now, when you've been told that your idea is too crazy and bizarre...by Harlan Ellison of all people...that's quite an honor.
As for the preview...yeah, maybe you're right about Mark Hamill. That sounds like his laugh.
"Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous Communist plot we have ever had to face?" - General Jack D. Ripper
and yes, to be called too bizarre by harlan is quite a compliment
I have to wait for the dvd to come out.
Heyas Uncle Joe, sounds like it was a great time.
Neil Adams? Is he the same guy who drew Batman comics during 70's 80's? If he is, he has a couple theories about the Earth being hollow, the expanding Earth, and abiotic oil all of which are pretty wild stuff.
he is truly brilliant
and while all the fan boys were chasing autographs...they would always ignore neil and his family (very nice wife and kids) so it gave me plenty of time to chat it up with him....i just let him talk every year...i think he dug it
They keep coming up with distractions. IMO the question on Bates should never been asked. It was a healthcare presser. That will be one of the talking points all weekend. Another will be the birthers. Why give them the time of the day? They are a bunch of haters. A third will be about blue dogs as democrats backing away from true reform. I could write the news for the WSJ, NYTimes and WAPO and it would be everything we've already seen all week long with no progressive input whatsoever. The Sunday taalk shows won't haave any progressives at all. For many, thaat is the only time for them to catch up on the news and all they get is propaganda.
God help us all!
coincidence? i think not
the librul press still won't talk about the Downing St. memos. I tell ya, there ain't no far left media.
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2009/072409d.html
How much money is getting moved around? I think that's what fuels everything. These guys are robbing the treaury and need distractions. It's the biggest heist in the history of mankind. Don't kid yourself. They're probably stealing enough money, right now, to give everyone FREE healthcare.
far left loon >.<
to give everyone free healthcare
The AV Club has been blogging from Comic Con all week. I know it isn't the same thing as being there, but there are some good reads over by there.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
but the fucking con still refuses to live stream....which makes no sense
although someone said to me that if they live stream and charge, pannelists will request compensation...which i think is bs
It sounds like you've invested a lot of yourself into the con, and then to have Twilight and other people come in and change thinks drastically, must be hard...
And yes, Twilight is every rotten where. In my case, as a dark/gothic crafter on Etsy, who belongs to an approriate group of crafters, I find that the bonafide dark crafters are being alienated (including by religious folks who want to know why dark crafters get recognition and nothing for Christian crafters) and pushed aside in favor of everybody and their Aunt Sue who is doing Twilight related crafts because anything actually dark is too much for them. Oh well.
I hope you're able to find a nice comics outlet so you don't feel alone anymore!

new comics day...and i dont feel like having deep discussions on who would win a fight...superman or the hulk
I was once in a state of depression, that looking back upon, frightens me. One of the things that shook me out of it was when the following video was posted, right here at C&L.
It still brings tears to my eyes whenever I watch it because it fills my heart and soul.
So...I offer it to you and also say thanks to whoever it was here at C&L that originally posted it about a year ago.

Peace,
Tim
i know what depression is...and i have had bouts, leading to the need for medication
this is more being maudlin
life is very stressful right now
Goofy dancing, showing cultural unity, set to cool music, just does it for me. It really does. Hope it did for you too.
I hope you find happiness soon.
me-oww!
Terry Austin inked my sketch of Jean Grey/Phoenix, and he said John Byrne (X-Men artist-co-writer) asked who had drawn it. Good times!
American hero Dick Freedom is rooting out communist plots and giving them what for in this thrilling adventure!

Other than that, I loved that song!
Me too! What was the title of it, again?
Andy K spotlighting Andy K ... I love it!
Thanks, but please read my reply to the first comment in the thread.
I do have to say that I was, at first, a bit pissed that Ben Folds disproved my theory that Andy Kaufman and Wolfman Jack are, indeed, the same person...But then I looked more closely, and I realized that I was only being led to believe that these were, indeed, those two fellows on the same stage at the same time. I'm sure that there are more than a few of my fellow believers who think that it's a Wolfman Jack or Andy Kaufman impersonator on stage, but upon closer inspection, it appears that the Wolfman Jack image is actually the result of video manipulation. I don't know who's behind this elaborate hoax, exactly, but I suspect Israel. And Dick Cheney. And Ben Folds just needs to open his eyes. Also. And such.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
lafingas and Stan, where are you? Car 54 needs you!

some interesting graphs regarding the healthCare COST crisis now and the future.
At least the Cali Dems stopped Arnie's oil drill and literal highway robbery. Fortunately, L.A. County will sue for the rest of the theft. So Barry's envoy acknowledges we're not actually making Afghanistan more democratic, and shouldn't expect otherwise. So why are we there then? Bush was willing to violate states' rights by invading Buffalo to capture terrorist suspects. Looks like computers and cell phones could also be fueling those amputations in the Congo. Thanks, "free" trade! Broke states borrow from emergency funds. Why is Obama suddenly forced to apologize for racial profiling? Swine flu could nail 40% of Americans. The AP goes after the new minimum wage hike, even though waiters don't benefit from it, and even though the average worker made more money 40 years ago. Oh, and it conveniently ignores obstructionists for the lack of health care legislation, and blames it on fear of "big government". Palin's exit hardly reflects fiscal conservatism. Barry's still re-considering sending detainees to American prisons. Tony Alamo wants to be remembered as a prophet. Of course, so did David Koresh...Agent Orange does other nasty stuff to our vets. The feds needs a new place to dump our unwanted mercury. Fourteen abused children left behind.
why you feel the need to degrade the president by using the name he chose as a kid, but discarded as an adult
the fucking wingnuts do that...isnt it enough?
I feel weird calling him by his formal name. Maybe I should stick with POTUS.
obama is fine too
you do know that the wingnuts use "barry" as a put down...right?
and thought T was using it the same way. I thought, "what ever." But I'm with U.J.M.
I just read that he called himself that, and he so I rolled with it. My bad.
Let's not help the corporatists fascist nazi rightwing neocons dominate a label.
... when me and friends were all pumped to watch the pretenders. andy came on and did some trippy psychobabble routine while chrissie and the original members waited in the background. production had to cut to a commercial break. andy k. had an interesting sense of artistry, but once in a while it came at everyone else's expense. may he rest in peace in a performance space where nobody crowds one another out.
A racist old lady in Azle, Texas is in the news for putting a sign on her house that says Hispanics Keep Out?
She says she's talking about illegals, but evidently, she means all us "illegals" with last names of Spanish origin, per what her sign says.
Reminds me of the old "No N_____s, Mexicans, or Dogs" signs that used to be in some places....

I expect a lot worse in the future I'm afraid. Interesting story, thanks for posting it.
they have ruined California. Racism? If so, so be it. The illegal mexicans crowded into California and bankrupted us. and our societal managers let it happen.
Has a DNA test been done on Andy Kaufman and Sasha Baron Cohen? I do believe Andy must be Sasha's daddy.
he goes right for the laughs, and you know he isnt being serious
with andy, you were never really sure
and i dont think that cohen would take a gig as a bus boy to keep himself grounded in reality
Vitter, most republican congresspersons and blue dogs can now order their depends and other incontinence products by telephone and get them in an plain brown wrapper.
Hey, Uncle Joe.
So sorry about your depression.
Take care of yourself, and hope you feel better real soon.
Time for me to go to bed....late here in St. Louis.
to hit the rack. GNA!
but was that vid supposed to be funny? I mean Andy Kaufman was a comic genius, but on that vid? Not so much.
Oh and Uncle Joe? Cheer up dude. Life right now in this greedy corporate run world sucks the big one, but don't let it get you down. I'm so far in debt now that I might never be able to get out. F*ck them all. Twice if you need to:-)
Millions wait for delayed jobless checks

Unreal...but they can sure rush through bailouts for banks and corporations, now can't they? Priorities!
If we start claiming plagiarism for any pattern of chords, then we are all plagiarists. The rhythm is different and the whole "environment" of the song is different.
How many songs have the old I - IV - V pattern? With this standard, you can claim plagiarism with nearly every country or blues tune.
oops... first time out and I commented on the wrong thread. Mea Culpa, please forgive me.
If conservatives get to call universal health care "socialized medicine," I get to call private health care "soulless vampires making money off human pain." The problem with President Obama's health care plan isn't socialism, it's capitalism.
And if medicine is for profit, and war, and the news, and the penal system, my question is: what's wrong with firemen? Why don't they charge? They must be commies. Oh my God! That explains the red trucks!
New Rule: Not Everything in America Has to Make a Profit

Politics is for the present, but an equation is for eternity. Albert Einstein
Particulates mask GW
But if CO2 is pollution, and particulates are pollution too, does not one cancel out the other, or does one become the prime or secondary pollution, or does it depend on which lobby group has the most cash and the biggest mouth, or which section of the public is the more easiest bullied into being 'guilty' and thus paying for whatever to clean up the x, or should we even give a damn.
that the greenhouse gases are going to overtake the particulate pollution:
"The aerosol particles don't stay in the atmosphere for very long, so we don't expect their concentration - their effect - to grow over the next century. The greenhouse gases, on the other hand - carbon dioxide and methane - they keep accumulating in the atmosphere because they have long lifetimes. Whether we want it or not, the warming forces are going to overpower the cooling forces and the big question now is just how strong that effect is going to be. Predictions of the rise in global temperatures may therefore have to be revised upwards, Professor Andreae argued."
Its science it doesn't depend on which lobby group is paying you and yes we should give a damn.
I never thought he was that funny and definitely not the comedic genius so far ahead of his time that everyone else seems to think. I thought the wrestling women thing especially was stupid and sexist, especially at the time when many people thought all feminists were butch lesbians. He seemed to have one joke to me, trying to make his audience feel uncomfortable, which got old pretty fast.
I thought I'd never heard of him, and finally watched the vid. Isn't he that guy that was in the TV show Taxi? If so, BIG SNORE.
far left loon >.<
Please come back! Andy? Andy, please come back! Please come back, Andy!
