irritating me. A war?
The war is between supporters of PP and Komen. PP hasn't said anything inflamatory that I can find. The goddamn media makes it sound like PP is a bunch of flamethrowers. No...that would be the women of America who feel betrayed and are pissed off.
PP issued this press release:
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/about-us/new...
"We are alarmed and saddened that the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation appears to have succumbed to political pressure. Our greatest desire is for Komen to reconsider this policy and recommit to the partnership on which so many women count,” said Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America."
"The Komen Foundation’s leadership did not respond to Planned Parenthood requests to meet with the Komen Board of Directors about the decision"
“While this is deeply disturbing and disappointing, we want to assure women who rely on Planned Parenthood for breast care that we’re still here for them, and we always will be. The new fund we’re launching to support these services will ensure that the Komen Foundation’s decision doesn’t jeopardize women’s health,” added Richards."
..............
Is that a declation of war? Not unless the facts are inflamatory, and that is generaly how the right-wing percieves the facts.

It's GLOBAL .. just ask Newsweek ..

From one end of the muslim world to the other, Christians are being murdered for their faith.

We hear so often about Muslims as victims of abuse in the West and combatants in the Arab Spring’s fight against tyranny. But, in fact, a wholly different kind of war is underway—an unrecognized battle costing thousands of lives. Christians are being killed in the Islamic world because of their religion. It is a rising genocide that ought to provoke global alarm. ..

"Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob"

Nineteen members of three NGOS funded by the US State Dept have been put on trial in Egypt for interfering with their government.

The three NGOs are the International Republican Institute (that's "Republican" as in "Republican Party"), the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (yup .. you guessed it .. that's "Democratic" as in "Democratic Party") and Freedom House.

How many of you (let alone the American public) even know that our taxpayers' dollars are used to finance NGOs run by "the two parties" with the goal of meddling in the affairs of advancing democracy in other nations?

All three NGOs are financed by the National Endowment for Democracy, a "a bipartisan, private, non-profit corporation" proposed by President Ronald Reagan in 1982 and created by an act of Congress in 1983.

In other words, The Two Parties voted themselves money to conduct operations in other nations. Are the Green Party or the Working Families Party or any other American political party so funded? No.

More troubling are some of the activities of these NGOs. For instance the International Republican Institute (whose chair since 1993 has been John McCain) was involved in the 2004 coup in Haiti, the 2009 coup in Honduras, and has helped organize the right wing in Poland.

And WE pay the bill - both in the money given to these groups, and in the consequences of their actions.

John Williams, of Shadowstats, notes that manipulated government statistics are not changing the fact that the true SGS Unemployment Measure now sits at a staggering 22.5%. Williams can only use comparisons from the Great Depression to put things into proper perspective. Here is what Williams had to say: “The Economy Still Is Not Recovering. As discussed in the Opening Comments and Executive Summary, irrespective of the nature of the factors that helped to boost (recent) labor data, the general outlook has not changed. Even after the 2011 upside benchmark revisions, the January 2012 payroll employment level remains below the level that preceded the 2001 recession, more than a decade ago.”

MountainMan23's picture

And in truth it's usually difficult or impossible to tell whom to believe.

But on the face of it it looks kinda fishy that just as the election starts to really heat up the jobs numbers start to improve. And even if the improvement is real, there's still a long way to go to dig out of the ditch.

What kind of jobs? Just as good as the jobs lost? Not from what I read. Sure, there are fulltime jobs, but the pay is significantly less than it used to be.

And the longterm unemployed numbers don't seem to have changed a bit.

Then there's the massive student loan burdens - and by law you can't get out from under student loan debt by going bankrupt (altho any corporation is allowed to do exactly that).

Then the housing market is still in the toilet.

And (yeah, I'm gonna bash Obama) at the end of three years I don't see him having done much of anything to address the issues. And when he did his efforts have been pathetic. For instance his recent move to reduce the interest rate or rate of repayment for students currently in college is a drop in the bucket compared to the $1 Trillion debt held collectively by all students who have already graduated and don't benefit a bit from this change.

I also blame him 100% for losing the House in 2010, so I don't hear the excuse that the Republicans won't let him do anything. If he'd come out all FDR in 2009 when he took office the Dems could well not have lost the House.

Well, we certainly need to begin shutting down all those plants that were built in the 60s and 70s, and without at least some new nuclear plants, we will have to go back to candles, iceboxes, hand washed cloths, and closing up of factories that require lots of power to operate. Romney opposes alternative and renewable energy, in favor of oil, while President Obama supports developing renewable sources. The President believes we will need all forms of energy for the near future, and he's probably right - IMO. But President Obama seems clearly to interested in developing new forms of safe and renewable energy that can replace oil and the existing generation of nuclear plants. I'm sure he would welcome any and all alternatives to nuclear power that can be offered, while we ween America off oil.

It's an obvious ratings ploy in the same vein as most reality TV. bring in people who are known to act out and let 'em at it.

I really like MIA's music and think she's done a good job bringing awareness to some important causes in the past. I also think she has gotten way too addicted to being "controversial" and being a part of the Superbowl only discredits any shred of integrity she claims to have on issues she speaks about. NBC and the Superbowl didn't have any integrity to lose and their apology is fraudulent considering they wanted MIA to do something to make headlines.

Starring Joanne Whalley as Christine Keeler and John Hurt as Stephen Ward, personalities at the heart of the affair, the film details the 1963 scandal that rocked the government of British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan and may have contributed to the defeat of the ruling Conservative Party at the following year's general election.

The cast also includes Ian McKellen as John Profumo, Britt Ekland as Mariella Novotny, Bridget Fonda as Mandy Rice-Davies, Leslie Phillips as Lord Astor, and Roland Gift as Johnnie Edgecombe.

It's great to see that jobs are on the rise again and in many ways our economy is gaining momentum again. These are things to be happy about no matter what our ideological bent may be since it means there are fewer people down and out... for now.

My fears are not alleviated by this since all the causes of our crash are not only still in place but bigger and badder than ever. The only reason this "recovery" is happening is because trillions of dollars have been funneled to corporations through bailouts, tax breaks, anti-union measures, and war profiteering. I'm not a proponent of austerity measures in the standard sense they are discussed, but I do think our nation is living on borrowed money and with now that those trillions have gone into bombing brown people and lining rich people's pockets there is less available to actually invest in our infrastructure, emerging technologies and green energy. So, when will this bubble burst and where will we get the money to fill in the pot hole again?

Annoyed by media frenzy re PM & sexism. Would prefer that media talked about the fact that 70% of world's poor are female (1/2) (2/2) or maybe media could get worked up about the fact that women do 66% of world's work, earn 10% of the income & own 1% of the property.

I have a T-shirt/bumper sticker idea that I would like to market. Does anyone know how one would go about doing so?

"Better." It's what we should ask of ourselves and of our leaders.

mudshark's picture

I had Tshirts made a few years ago with my paint company logo on it.
It's not that expensive. And they're pretty easy to find. I took the logo off of my business card. You can pretty much get anything if you have something to work off of(like my card)
Then, wear them around town and see what kind of feed back you get.
You can always start at selling them at art fairs, or farmers markets. It'll take off from there. Sell them online too. just an idea.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

Big Bone Lick State Park's T-Shirts, or Golgotha Fun Park's or The Creationist Museum's for that matter? Wanna buy my Fuck BACK or ATF, or Safe as MILK or God Bless President Obama t-shirt to wear to the meeting-house? http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/index.aspx

If you do so, you'll find smokers are most grateful and may well buy your shirts, even if it's an anti-smoking message...

statusquObama, change you can only pretend in

after waiting two weeks without a peep from CA EDD, who just ignored my claim and told me I needed to file in FL...

Florida's form (assuming you can survive the initial shock of Gov Skeletor's mugshot on the homepage) requires you to complete an "Initial Skills Test" in three categories-- Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information. Fifteen questions in each category, at three different skill levels (pretty much indistinguishable from each other...) beginning at Level 3 (??!!). The test was more difficult than I'd have expected (yeah, missed 2/45), but apparently, there was no minimum number of correct answers needed to receive benefits-- so why the fuck have it??? FWIW, I'd be willing to bet that the average Florida goober gets only about 25% correct-- all were four-option multiple choice questions.

Also, their UI site's acronym is FLUID, and their site to check claim status is: https://www2.myflorida.com/flccid.

Though it wasn't required, I feel like sending a piss sample to Gov Skeletor just for the Hell of it.
