Man I hope this new baby year grows up to be a better one than this one has been. Ten years ago the Supreme Court told us who our next president would be and everything went to hell from there.

Since the repeal of Glass-Steagall which prohibited such things, the insurance industry and the financial industry have in certain areas, merged.

Happy New Year's Eve to you as well........and I join you in hoping that this next decade is a million times better for everyone!
Let's hope the next 10 years are a whole lot better. Many thanks to C&L for keeping me sane during the awful aughts. Happy New Year, C&Lers; live long and prosper.
This decade is going out kicking and screaming but if we all pull together we can kick its butt out the door tonight. I haven't felt like celebrating New Year's Eve in a long time but I'm ready to do it tonight. Champagne is chilling! We stay in every year, have a nice dinner and dread the neighborhood fireworks.
Sometimes I feel like C&L is my little home away from home. It's where I go to talk to my sweet invisable friends from all around the world. You guys have kept me from losing it more than once as I could rant or rave to release the anger and frustration these past years have caused in all of us. Thank you for being there.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

That's part of what puts the "Happy" in Happy New Year.

likewise, back to you for your insightful, sanity-restoring expressions here. It has been a busy year for me, focusing on what I really needed to do. I am grateful for the relief of coming here to vent with people of like mind. there are too many to remember, but I count you among them. HNY!

... not that C&L is a troll-free wonderland, but it's head and shoulders above other sites (such as local newspapers).
On the whole, the C&L regulars are better educated, better informed, more eloquent, and have a far better sense of humor.
Thank goodness for a sense of humor. To quote Jimmy Buffett, "If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane" To which I would reply, No shit!
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
... had a similar quote (which I can't remember verbatim).
It was something like 'Laughter is God's gift to make up for all our problems. To be unable to laugh is to not be human.'
I'll take that personally.

Oh, thank you, if you were talking to me (sometimes it's kind of difficult to tell who is responding to whom)
This year was a very happy one for me in personal life as my husband and I finally found the right little rescue dog for us. We put our last little dog to sleep in Feb of 08 and a year had gone by without a dog in the house. It's been so much fun experiencing a new dog and all the love that has been exchanged with him. Every day since he came into our house and hearts has been special.

There's a lot of baggage left over from the past decade, but here's to a brighter future.
(That still doesn't mean you can sweep it under the carpet and call it cleaned up, Nancy ... and Harry ... and Barack ...)
Can we sweep Rush, Beck and Palin under the rug or at least into the dust pan or the garbage can?

whose avowed purpose is anti-Democratic and anti-progressive, parrots, quotes or paraphrases any repug. I wish they would take a New Year's resolution to stop that shit, but I'm not optimistic about that. Maybe a few of them could join Rush on the gurney. Maybe a few could have some sort of epiphany. Maybe. I can hope.

"Ratings" and "market share" are simply the tags on the puppet strings. We no longer have journalists like Cronkite and Murrow to lead or for us to emulate - we have 'perfect hair' types like Chip Reid and David Gregory.
What I would like to know is how much will this mandated cost for healthcare coverage be?
If the fine is anywhere close to the cost. hmph!
What's the problem?
Yeah, yeah yeah. I still would like to see single payer.
But something tells me that wouldn't be free.
If the fine for not paying into this is $750.00. The cost of the mandate can't be far off. And 750.00 for a yearly premium is cheap.
But we still don't know what the price of this mandated payment will be. Plus, subsidies.
I wish they would tell us what the fuck is going on.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
They won't tell you because it is a sham.
It is corporate welfare. See post above here with link here

But the people will get to see Dr's. They will get more help than they're getting now.
I'm not sold on this bill. That's why I asked the question.
What I want to know is the bottom line. The cost.
I said earlier(months ago) when my wifes med ins expired( from her work)
Cobra wanted almost $800.00 a month plus a 5K deductable.
And that's just for me. No one else.
I want to see the numbers on this.Plus people who can't afford it the govt supposedly will subsidize the cost.
I still want to see the numbers.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
Why do "better" when you can do "cover everyone"?
I don't get the mentality of this being slightly more affordable to a few million more people, while leaving many more figuratively out in the cold.
Single payer would save money over our current system, yet cover everyone. Why isn't this a no-brainer?
For more info on cost analyses:

I guess you didn't see that part.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
How about this one?
"The U.S. could save enough on administrative costs (almost $400 billion in 2009) with a single-payer system to cover the uninsured."
Reference : http://www.pnhp.org/publications/nejmadmin.pdf
Cobra is just a way of extending what you get from your employer after you've been canned. Does no one else any good, and only lasts a certain amount of time. It's a hack in lieu of a real way of dealing with healthcare payment for people who don't get it through their employers.
She became disabled. And yes, I understand the way Cobra works.
Short term fix for a long term problem.
I agree single payer is the best option.
I'm still curious about the bottom line with this bill in it's current form.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
about $900-1300/month, maybe. I have read numbers as low as $9000-13000/year. but the estimates are based on an income of $66k/yr., for some reason, there seems to be a helluve lot of similarity to the Massachussetts plan, which is a collosal mess. and since it's mandatory, it is essentially legally sponsored usury. the fine is roughly $1500 for not having insurance in Mass. Either way, if you're broke, you're fucked.
they are really fucking the people royally and they are bringing out lady LIEberman from Conn.

... a couple of weeks ago, I got rather ticked off at something Alice X said, and put her on my 'blocked' list. It was at that time that I realized I was in need of a news diet and pretty much went into background mode for about a week.
I still don't necessarily agree with Alice on some issues, but the block has been removed, and I apologize for taking an honest comment as a personal insult.

tomorrow morning not much will change.
"tomorrow morning not much will change."...BUT, we can only hope that some will be able to take a deep breath and exhale some of the strangeness we've all experienced this decade...
Here's a classic chuckle... For those of you old enough to remember the escapades of the infamous Oral Roberts in Tulsa - Televangelist - HACK extraordinaire - and all around sham/shame scam man, well we have a NEW one using the SAME scam asking for the SAME thing from the SAME strain of folks... For everyone's cheap, last-minute snicker I give you : (Poof!) Rick Warren and the Saddleback Church.. in Orange County, CA..
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/12...
Begging for money the same way Oral Roberts did back in 1987... WHAT A LOSER !!!
That should be "The Non Sequitur" -- "ur," not "or," and no hyphen. In case you tagged it wrong, you might want to fix it.
Good stuff - I might pass on that puppy video to some folks...
