You'd think (here in Seoul) the big gab would be all about North Korea, but I didn't hear a peep from anyone. Life goes on; no panic. It was all about the deceased President Roh.

I didn't really care for the guy, but who cares what I thought?

low blow. Airheaded as Steele is, he has no connection to Liddy's comments other the the fact that they share a political party. By that logic, all us democrats are power hungry sluts thanks to John Edwards

The more those overweight gray haired blowhards try to trash Sotomayor they more they alienate the young, the thinking and the confused.

They are doing a better job recruiting new liberals than the DNC.

Keep the trash coming... you are just guaranteeing your obsolescence.

whole fucked up week.

The Republicans are certainly doing a great job of getting noticed.

But gaining any traction or expanding their popularity?

I don't think so.

Could this really be The Republican Death Spiral?

The reason I'm glad I didn't vote for Billary in '08: Bubba still refuses to challenge Bush on the Iraq invasion. The family of the woman who died waiting for help in the hospital got $2 million in compensation. Where Greenland goes, so goes the eastern edge of the nation. Even though oil is plentiful supply right now, Wall Street is rigging its future shares to rip off consumers. A Montana town is more than happy to take in Gitmo detainees. The Scientologists try to erase damaging facts about them on Wikipedia. Sotomayor had to deal with discrimination, even at Bush's school. Another stupid Cali driver. What bothers me isn't that Barry is trying to block those torture photos, but that Congress is trying to follow him. America's freest states. A school prom crowns a local gay student prom queen. One of our terrorist suspects ended up talking after we offered him a cookie. Dubya misses living vicariously through non-draft dodgers.

Notice the 3 metrics used: life, liberty and property.

Recall "Property" was changed to "Pursuit of Happiness" in the Declaration of Independence.

Not surprising moderately conservative states would rank high given "life, liberty and property" as a metric.

I'll take Pursuit of Happiness over Property anyday!

Repeal of Glass Steagal and deregulating the bankster class.

UCITA (Uniform Computer forgot the rest) to add further insult to the telecom bill and DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act).

DOMA and let's add a Constitutional amendment banning teh gays (yes, I'm aware the chimp only campaigned for banning gay marriage, but if it had passed it would eventually led to banning gay people).

of the Bush/Clinton "brothers" lovefest in Toronto, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I have been completely wrong about American politics. There is, without a doubt, major differences in the two political parties. Why, just listening to them, one could tell that Clinton was very obviously the liberal/progressive of the duo. Right down to where he basically defended Bushies policies, and Bushie in turn defended his. Ah yes. What a display.

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.

The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.
A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.

Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.

(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.

(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

Obama's GM Plan Looks Like a Raw Deal
Congress, not a secret task force, should decide the company's fate.

RALPH NADER and ROBERT WEISSMAN in the WSJ

here

excerpt:

If not motivated by their constitutional duty, members of Congress might perhaps listen to political arguments to assert their rightful authority. If GM and the task force take the company into bankruptcy, more than displaced workers will be demanding that Congress answer: "Why are we bailing out the auto companies and then facilitating their moving production overseas? Why aren't we leveraging the public investment to protect jobs and manufacturing capacity, as well as facilitate investments in environmentally appropriate technologies?"

My response is, we already know the answer. Congress is bought and paid for.

ConcernedCanuck's picture

basically bankrupt in the US and Canada, GM has publicly admitted it's Asian expansion, and stated it makes good profit over there. So, it only makes sense that they transfer production. You produce where you make money. That was in North America at one time, but now in the days of the $50,000 work truck, sales were bound to drop.

Tax the Rich's picture

They made tons of money here until just a few years ago, when they conspired with the politicians to screw their workers.

Living in Michigan, I had several family members who bought 2 or 3 new cars and trucks very year or two. Now, they buy nothing, or Toyota, because the american companies fired them.

And just because they sell a few cars in Asia, and have no labor obligations, does not mean it is going to be a highly successful adventure. All those $.50 an hour workers in Asia, are not very likely to buy cars. They are just selling to the aristocracy rght now.

Please take future insulting rightwing corporate bullshit talking points to deadstate, or some other venue.

Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.

Edwin's picture

What do you mean? Asia is packed with cars. People can't get enough of them. Buy buy buy. This isn't old Asia, it's new Asia!!! Big big difference.

They won't be selling $50,000 vehicles, but there's a huge market for buying cars.

History Repeats Itself – or Does It?

In his well-researched article, Hutchinson notes that Weimar Germany had been suffering from inflation ever since World War I; but it was in the two year period between 1921 and 1923 that the true “Weimar hyperinflation” occurred. By the time it had ended in November 1923, the mark was worth only one-trillionth of what it had been worth back in 1914. Hutchinson goes on:

“The current policy mix reflects those of Germany during the period between 1919 and 1923. The Weimar government was unwilling to raise taxes to fund post-war reconstruction and war-reparations payments, and so it ran large budget deficits. It kept interest rates far below inflation, expanding money supply rapidly and raising 50% of government spending through seigniorage (printing money and living off the profits from issuing it). . . .

Weimar Hyperinflation? Could it Happen Again?

Where else can you walk down the street with a Mai Tai in hand?

You've seen how all of the Right and most of the Dems/Republican-lites -including our new President, are quick to "stand by the Intelligence community" while leaving Pelosi to the wolves for daring to claim they've been dishonest??

Well I hope Pelosi's attackers and the President choke on this story. An Israeli spy, who traded top secret defense information - during the Reagen era - was just charged after 25 years. His punishment? No jail time, and a fine of $50,000.

The real crime here however is that they did convict the American Intelligence official involved in the same crime - and he sits in jail today serving a life sentence.

So the hell with justice and accountability here in America anymore -we are, without a doubt, owned and operated by Israel.

"He was incarcerated at the federal penitentiary in Marion, Illinois in solitary confinement for seven years... then onto Butner FCI (medium/low/medical) for the rest of his life sentance"

Assuming they broke his mind after seven years of torture, reducing him to a slobbering state.

Isolation like that is designed to destroy the mind of the person.

No matter the crime or what anybody thinks of a convicted prisoner, they still are human beings with some rights.

Torture in the US penal system seem to be the norm for high profile or annoying prisoners.

hazmaq's picture

Hopefully someone gets to him now and pleads for his release under the present circumstances, before he mysteriously dies.

Of course silence.

Seven years would reduce him to wrecked mind state.

Ditto with the innocent Gitmo inmates, they would be unable to defend themselves at a trial after that many years being abused/tortured. Even when released they would be human wrecks.

Ferrofluid's picture

as in E. Howard Hunt and that other alleged Dealey Plaza hobo, in the Fed Supermax, both dead within days.

..within hours of his arrival in his home country -after years of pleading with the US and the UK to allow him to serve out his sentence in his home country's prison.

And that was just recently, also under Obamas' watch.
