This is just disgusting. In a new Quinnipiac Poll, Americans favor the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor: 52-24.
A new Quinnipiac poll finds that a majority of Americans approve of President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor.
With Obama's Supreme Court Justice pick still pending approval by the Senate, the national survey found that 54 percent support the pick and 24 percent disapprove, with 22 percent undecided. The poll surveyed 1, 438 registered voters nationwide.

Now just two days after Gingrich branded Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor "racist," convicted Watergate felon and right-wing radio host G. Gordon Liddy agreed that both of Newt's arguments disqualify Sotomayor. Period.
After echoing Tom Tancredo's slander that the National Council of La Raza to which Sotomayor belongs is a "Latino KKK," Liddy Thursday recycled Gingrich's theory of menstrual disqualification:
"Let's hope that the key conferences aren't when she's menstruating or something, or just before she's going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then."

I would very much love for her to make the following statement in her opening remarks to Congress
"I would like to set Mr. G. Gordon Liddy's mind at rest as well as others who share his concerns: I am a postmenopausal woman and, therefore, my menstrual cycles are no longer an issue. I hope this assuages their fears that somehow PMS will make my decisions."

OK, I'm a woman. I menstruated regularly for decades. So did my mother, my sisters, and numerous friends. Not one of us was unable to make a decision or attend "key conferences" because of these purely natural and unremarkable bodily functions. Menstruation is not as shocking and freakish as males (with no practical experience of the process) would have us believe.
That's really the proper response to Liddy's comment. Common sense trumps all, even among those who do not possess it.

Many years ago, I wasted a few days of my life reading Liddy's biography, Will. Very weird book.
Liddy as a kid loved Nazi imagery, though he claimed Hitler went too far. As a political operative in the White House, he used to show his colleagues the Nazi films of Leni Riefenstal, as examples of effective campaigns.
I was struck at the time by one of the main themes of the book, which was Liddy's ongoing fight to toughen himself up and stop being a weakling and a mama's boy. He seemed obsessed from a young age with putting up an appearance of extreme toughness and masculinity so that no one would think him a sissy.
To me, he came off as a paranoid, overcompensating closet case. This petty, condescending comment about menstruation fits the mold.
I read it, too. Describing it as very weird is probably an understatement. I kept thinking that the man is very smart, very determined, and WAY off paranoid/crazy scale.

Why is it that women think THEY can use PMS as an excuse for all kinds of off-the-wall nasty behaviour, But they don't want to take any criticism for that same behaviour when us MEN blame it on their periods.
