I have to say this Birther movement is starting to get on my last nerve. Seriously, what more has to be done to get through their thick, dense skulls that Obama was born in the U.S.? And now, to add "credibility", they trot out G. (apparently for Geezer) Gordon Liddy--a convicted criminal, mind you--to express all the same ridiculous doubts ("That's not a birth certificate--it's a certificate of live birth!") and to assert that the "preponderance" of evidence (which is limited to his grandmother saying he was born in Kenya and the screaming mimis of some very unhinged people) suggests that he is, in fact, an illegal alien, and all the other evidence (the certificate of live birth, the birth announcement in the Honolulu papers, etc., the verification by state officials, the fact that courts have already thrown this ridiculous charge out, the fact that he was certified as a legitimate candidate for POTUS, etc.) entirely dismissable.
Chris Matthews ever-so-gently (perhaps in deference to the feeble appearance of Liddy?) smacks down the insane hate and logic spiraling out of control.
Media Matters looks at the nutwing conspiracists who should be relegated to the outer fringes of the national dialogue being instead mainstreamed by the likes of Lou Dobbs.

Hating Obama because he's black is not politically correct. But to white America, he is an "other". He is not one of us. In that video of that crazy woman confronting that congressman, she talked about how she wants her country back. This is the key to the issue about the birth certificate. Obama represents this "other". But this is too much of an abstraction for people.
Labeling Obama as not having been born in the US allows people to put a concrete label on this abstraction. Since its not about the facts, but rather this abstraction, poring more and more facts on the whereabouts of his birth becomes irrelevant. Proving that he was born here won't stop making these people from seeing him as this "other".

Not True. I was born in South Africa to an American mother and a British father. I was granted dual South-African and British citizenship. I had to move to the US and go through naturalization at age 11 to become a citizen.
That said, Obama is a citizen. To my knowledge, Hawaii does not issue birth certificates, but a Certificate of Live Birth. Funny enough, my birth certificate is a Republic of South Africa Certificate of Live Birth.

The birthers want to see the original "long form", not the short form we keep seeing on the TV.
For example, my birth certificate from North Carolina has the original doctor's signature, hospital of birth, along with ink prints of the bottom of my feet and hands. It also has a raised state stamp.
So, the questions are...does Hawaii even have such a thing as a "long form" birth certificate? An easy way to solve this would be to examine other birth certificates from babies born in Hawaii at around the same time as Obama. Do they have "long forms"?
Also, to my knowledge, most states issue "certificates of live birth" like Obama's because original birth certificates get lost all the time. Basements flood, houses burn down, etc....If an original birth certificate is lost, the state will issue one like Obama has produced to provide legal certification of the birth.
So either:
1. Hawaii has no "long form" the birthers want to see;
2. Obama has no idea where the long form is because it's lost.
Of course, option 2 would carry no weight with the birthers. Also, even if a long form is produced, most of the whack jobs would say something along the lines of "Why did it take so long for Obama to produce it? Ahhhh..it's a fake manufactured by the CIA!", or something along those lines.
It seems the best way to settle this would be to see if any long forms were issued in Hawaii for other births in 1961.

Liddy made a point about the BC posted on the internet being a "Certificate of Live Birth" and NOT a birth certificate. What's the difference?
I pulled mine out of mothballs, and sure enough, it says "Certificate of Live Birth" but it does state place of birth, mom's info, dad's info etc., etc. Isn't that enough to establish citizenship? I mean, I'm 99.999999% sure that if you're born in the 50 states, you are automatically a US citizen.
My "COLB" was good enough for my first driver's license, good enough to allow me to enlist in the US Army, get a "Secret" (not Top Secret) security clearance, a US Passport (now that it's required to visit Vancouver, BC) and even federal student aid while in college. Why is it not good enough for the "Birthers"? As I understand it, it is against state law in Hawaii to release the original to anyone BUT Obama.

I ordered birth certificates for each of my children right after they were born and they all say "Certificate of Live Birth." Birth certificate for short, right? My husband's is from 1963 and it also says "Certificate of Live Birth."

"Certificate of Live Birth" I applied for a passport recently and this is an original copy of mine from Georgia from 1963. Interesting. So I got my passport recently my question is: Since mine also reads "Certificate of Live Birth" like Obama's does that mean I'm illegal? WHAT... Dobbs is a nut.

Even if there is, isn't it possible that the birthers BRIBED her to sign a deposition? It's her word against everyone else's. Can you sue someone for making a false deposition? Where does this step grandma live, is she still alive, etc? If she lived in Kenya and sold out for some money that might be understandable (not condoning it) if she's poor.
