i'm beginning to believe in that kool-aid thingy.

VegasRage's picture

Bushco gave the banks a $140 billion extra glasses of that kool-aid thingy and they hid it inside the $700 billion glasses of kool-aid thingy.

A Quiet Windfall for US Banks
With attention on bailout debate, Treasury made change to tax policy.

The financial world was fixated on Capitol Hill as Congress battled over the Bush administration's request for a $700 billion bailout of the banking industry. In the midst of this late-September drama, the Treasury Department issued a five-sentence notice that attracted almost no public attention.

But corporate tax lawyers quickly realized the enormous implications of the document: Administration officials had just given American banks a windfall of as much as $140 billion.

Radix Omnium Malorum Avaritia

theWalrus's picture

Rightwing paranoia. Dontcha just love it? In his July 2 speech at Colorado University Obama pledged that enhanced public service and active citizenship would be a central cause of his presidency. Regarding the “civilian national security force” in the speech, Obama was referring to a proposal for a civilian reserve corps that could handle *foreign* postwar reconstruction efforts such as rebuilding infrastructure — an idea endorsed by the Bush administration.

The comments by Rep. Broun that, based on this speech, Obama is planning a Marxist dictatorship and actually Compares Obama to Hitler (!) are preposterous, delusional and just plain disgusting and deserves a public censure.

RobertD's picture

Why is it always seemingly OK for Republicans to compare anyone they dislike to Hitler if it's not OK for others to say that of Republicans (which it isn't, unless they're behaving as fascists)?

I recall Dick Durbin getting into trouble over this and having Faux lose its collective wig over it. So why is this being permitted now?

Karen's picture

Heh, yeah, I read that article earlier in the day, odanny. Wow. Rep. Broun's got some problems.

Funny how George Bush's behavior never worried him, but Obama's references to building up the Peace Corps, and having a civilian force to respond to disasters makes him think Obama is planning a Gestapo army answerable only to him.

I know your soul is unsettled because partisan hacks have stolen your stellar record of governing (WTF?). But, be not upset. The Republican Party, who have stolen your style, will go the way of the Whigs. Good riddance.

In 2004, the total vote count was nearly 312k.

In 2008, the vote count, with an Alaskan on the Republican ticket, is just a bit over 217k. That's a difference of ~95k votes, or 30%.

How is that possible? Where are the missing ballots? Begich is down by ~3,200 votes to convicted Felon Ted Stevens, with over 90k ballots missing. Why isn't anyone talking about this?

From: The Disenfranchisement of My Daughter

Because of the decisive margin of Obama’s victory, little attention has been paid to the widespread voter suppression which took place across the country this election. ..

There have been countless stories across the country of missing registrations, malfunctioning voting machines, polls opening late, insufficient numbers of ballots or voting machines, voter harassment and other issues, almost all of which took place in predominantly Democratic precincts. ..

Yes, Obama ended up winning in Indiana and the rest of the country. But there will be future presidential elections that will be a lot closer. And, as I am writing this, important Senate races in Minnesota, Georgia and Alaska are so tight that the winners have yet to be finalized.

Democracy is too important to be entrusted to politicians.

I totally agree, I bet way more areas went to Obama and many other different races went democrat, too. The voting machines were not fixed.

You know Alaska is corrupt, and Georgia has to be. Voter fraud is probably tradition in Georgia yet.

there are about 90k ballots which have yet to be counted (per the AK senator on Maddow tonight). He also said that Stevens' own pollster said that he thought Bagich (sic) would win.

he has been so entrenched in alaska politics that it's not beyond imagining that cheating happened here.

but look at nate silver's analysis. he's the most reliable. he got the results of the general election to 0.1 accuracy.

this is just freeloading. doesnt she have a house of her own? taxpayer money shouldnt be used to pay for living expenses for an extended relative. it's improper.

if obama is foisting his mother-in-law into the white house and letting the people pay for her expenses then he should at least help out his brother who is living in poverty in kenya. god knows he can afford it.

the robinson family seems to be more dominant than obama's family. maya may have been in hawaii because of their grandmother but in-laws should be more low-key.

That is about 200 billion over priced meals. Now let me see... There are 6 billion people on earth. If they were all lucky enough to eat three meals (three overpriced meals)a day that 2 trillion dollars could feed them for over three years.

45,000 people starve to death each day. That is 16 million people a year.

I am sure that if you could stick your head up your ass any further you would do your utmost.

RobertD's picture

Umm...that would come out of your pocket more so, as the Obamas don't have to pay the kids' grandmother, but they would have to pay a nanny. And since the president is a *government* employee, he is paid with tax dollars. Your tax dollars--and mine.

Therefore, YOU would pay for a nanny. But you won't be paying for a grandma.

live-out nannies wont have living expenses 24/7, 365 days/year.

will she redecorate her future room? at whose expense?

RobertD's picture

And I think you're nit-picking. Presidents typically try to influence governors and others in positions of power in order to best insure their program's success. Elections have consequences.

I don't see cronyism here. Jarrett's clearly capable, and she's trusted. What the governor decides to do is up to the governor. If Jarrett were incompetent, that might be another story. It's not like she's Michael Brown and has been picked to run FEMA because she's a big donor, or Harriet Miers to be on the Supreme Court because she happens to have a law degree. *That's* cronyism.

Not to mention an absurd distortion of the "Peter Principle."

masha's picture

cronyism is just defined as favoring your friends. if obama truly wants to be a different kind of politician then let the governor be as he said he would.

thanks for the correction on *your*.

You put up your point, and it's been refuted multiple times without name-calling.

But you keep coming back with 'I'm a liberal, just like you!' and 'Wah! Don't name call, discuss!' - the empty platitudes of the faux liberal/troll.

Your argument consists of 'It costs too much!' and has no substance beyond that. There's no legal reason for not allowing the girls' grandmother to stay as part of the family - in fact, the question that needs to be asked is if she routinely played a role in their upbringing, either living with the Obamas in Chicago, or if the girls went to grandma's before/after school, or if she relies on Barack & Michelle for some measure of care.

From the National Journal (via Digby):

Obama thinks he is a good talker, but he is often undisciplined when he speaks. He needs to understand that as President, his words will be scrutinized and will have impact whether he intends it or not. In this regard, President Bush is an excellent model; Obama should take a lesson from his example. Bush never gets sloppy when he is speaking publicly. He chooses his words with care and precision, which is why his style sometimes seems halting. In the eight years he has been President, it is remarkable how few gaffes or verbal blunders he has committed. If Obama doesn't raise his standards, he will exceed Bush's total before he is inaugurated.

Holy. Shit.

But wait, there's more (via They gave us a republic):

Earlier this year, 12,000 people in San Francisco signed a petition in support of a proposition on a local ballot to rename an Oceanside sewage plant after George W. Bush. The proposition is only one example of the classless disrespect many Americans have shown the president.
...
It seems that no matter what Mr. Bush does, he is blamed for everything.
...
This is the price Mr. Bush is paying for trying to work with both Democrats and Republicans.

...
Just as Americans have gained perspective on how challenging Truman's presidency was in the wake of World War II, our country will recognize the hardship President Bush faced these past eight years -- and how extraordinary it was that he accomplished what he did in the wake of the September 11 attacks.

The treatment President Bush has received from this country is nothing less than a disgrace.

What country has the guy who wrote that been living in?

i would like to salute the veterans of the korean war ! thoes who died in combat thoes who have died over the years since many who were my fellow shipmates , to thoes who fought on land sea and in the air you were magnifcent! i talked to a guy yesterday who was giveing me an estimate on some work that needs done on my house ,we got started on veterans day and after he found out i was a korean war vet he thanked me for fighting for americas freedoms , i said no i didnt fight for your freedom it wasnt your freedom i fought for, he seemed as if i was rebuffing him for saying that! i told him dont be offended im only stateing a fact , my and thoes who fought in korea were fighting for the freedoms of the koreans and america had no freedoms to lose if we hadnt fought there, then i explained the reasons that the war happened then he understood why i said what i did, at any event korea was my contribution to anothers country as gregory peck said in the movie pork chop hill at the end when after ly clemons walked down the hill with the few men he had left , millions of koreans would live in freedom because of what these few did there in two days of desperate fighting , to the rest of the veterans of other wars ill let them say thier own praises for thier fellow vets!

service to this country.

I know it sounds cliche some times, but folks, we would not be able to be here typing away at our damn keyboards were it not for the sacrifices of brave men and women over the years.

In observance of Veterans Day, please call up any family or friends who have served and thank them, attend a parade, or raise a flag if you have one.

Here in Texas they call shit on shingle biscuits in sausage gravy, and people slurp it up.

Why you haven'nt lived until you've had a nice USMC under cooked runny white of an egg. The cooks finally let us cook our own eggs, while the cook sat and read a fuck book.

ysbaddaden's picture

At Edwards AFB we had our own short order cook who made omelets to order. He used fresh eggs, and presumably the powder stuff. It was pretty good.

But the bacon was limp and greasy, and the cakes in the display stand I think used to be door stops until they got too hard.

For a month lunch and dinner was chicken fried steak, minute steak, salisbury steak, beef croquets etc. The name kept changing but it seemed to be the same piece of meat.
