It's a powerful video, but I for one have difficulty in understanding 'rap" lyrics. Would have been much better spoken a bit slower and with a quieter more menacing musical score.

I liked it 'til the rap started. Then I had to shut it off.

Hey, why not apply to a Soros foundation for a grant?
Here's one: The Open Society Institute:
http://www.soros.org/grants/application/grant...
Funding Priorities
The Open Society Institute’s National Security and Human Rights Campaign provides grants to U.S.-based organizations working to promote progressive national security policies that respect human rights, civil liberties, and the rule of law. The campaign’s grantmaking supports efforts to advance the following five policy goals:
1. End arbitrary detention and the use of secret prisons, restore due process, eliminate the use of torture and extraordinary rendition of terror suspects, and close the Guantanamo Bay detention center.
2. Reform surveillance laws and policies to restrict warrantless and unchecked surveillance and restore broad privacy protections at the federal, state, and local levels.
3. Ensure that anti-terrorism laws and law enforcement activities do not target freedom of speech, association, or religious expression.
4. Reduce the practice of racial, ethnic, and religious profiling of Muslim, Arab, South Asian, and Middle Eastern (MASA) individuals and communities, and build the capacity of MASA organizations to fight abusive national security policies disproportionately directed at them and promote the acceptance of MASA communities in American society.
5. Decrease government secrecy, restore strong oversight of executive action taken in the name of national security, and expose and hold U.S. government officials and private actors accountable for abuses and violations of the law.
An overarching goal of the campaign is to promote new thinking, engage new voices and constituencies, and strengthen capacity and collaboration within the field of organizations engaged in these issues.
The campaign provides funding for projects that address one or more of the above policy goals through at least one of the following strategies:
-- Policy advocacy
-- Grassroots organizing and field building
-- Mobilization of new voices and constituencies
-- Scholarship and research
-- Communications
-- Litigation
There's more at the above URL. It seems to me that C&L might qualify for a combination of grassroots organizing and field building, and communication. C&L is focusing on items 1, 2, 3, and 5 above.

More on the psycho
and the saint. Will we really be gone in '010? Today's seniors are stuck with the same shitty jobs they had when they were teens. The Army Corps doesn't care about saving trees. Our first Gitmo detainee on trial pleads not guilty. Global warming's already ruining our oceans. I got new, babe.
Does anyone really think that Letterman was referring to Palin's FOURTEEN year old daughter in those jokes of his?
If a drone kills a child in Kandahar, do the crying parents make a sound?
But she was the only kid with them in NYC. After I heard that today, I understood their reaction to his joke.
That said, I doubt anyone outside of Alaska would automatically think they have any kid other than Bristol. They aren't as famous as they think they are.
But since they think that they are as famous as the First Family, that they'd be instantly recognised as individuals, they automatically assumed that he would know that it was Sarah and Todd, traveling with Willow.
What I think Letterman saw was that wacky Palin woman, her husband and that kid of hers. And since Bristol is the one THEY pimped out, it's partly on them.
I think I saw a pic of them and just assumed it was Bristol, although thinking about it, I realise it was a younger girl.
I would recognise her, but not her husband. Or any of her kids.

I feel the same about Shawn of the Dead.

Oh, here's an odd story for yous guys.
I think this dog has watched "Up In Smoke" one too many times.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/06/12/dog-...
and he had a young (6 mos old) German Shepherd pup. We were all blazing away, and my friend had made up a 1/2 oz bag of good green for someone who was "right around the corner". Well, time went by, bud was burned, and a few hours later, the guy finally showed for his 1/2 ounce. No one could find it, though it had been on the bed. Well, in stumbles his dog, bouncing off walls and tables, before passing out cold on the living room floor...

True to my (new) laodicean ways, I haven't been around much lately. I'm planning to move to Europe soon, and American politics is more of the same (fucked), and I'm not American so...
I do get into a 'good newsy' torture thread or other outrageous "foreign policy" (bullying) thread. I'm still keen on what happens there. Other than that, I'm thinking about the future and learning about music.

i hear ya, ed. i haven't been around much, either.
just doesn't quite seem like the good old days. no sphinx, no tyree, no orangutan, no truthbtold.
it's kinda like walkin' through a ghost town...
i'm still here, until the 4th of july, then i will be done with politics for good, and thinking about music and the future, as well.
good luck in europe. don't drink the tapwater.
here in the US either!
if'n it ain't the mercury, it's the flouride. if'n it ain't the flouride, it's the radiation. if'n it ain't the radiation, it's the alligator p!ss.
I drink tap water all over the place (in different countries). In SE Asia, I'm a little more carfeul, but otherwise...
"If the US government enforced its banking laws like it did its park regulations, we wouldn't be

I fear tyree was driven out. There is only so much negative energy (directed at a person) one can take before one must leave. He had every right to say what he wanted about poiticians: that's the life they chose. Most of them deserve our criticism, if not scorn.

Yeah, its a shame that some of those people have left here.

Another win for the Wall Street Oligarchy vs Democracy: Another Missed Opportunity: Obama Retreats on Wall Street Compensation
- http://finance.yahoo.com/tech-ticker/article/...
News the Obama administration plans to back away from dictating compensation for all of Wall Street is a victory for those who worry about overzealous government meddling and the dangers of wage controls. But it's also another missed opportunity by the administration to take advantage of the crisis to materially change behavior on Wall Street, which is becoming something of a hallmark of the Obama administration. Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has said "you never want a serious crisis to go to waste," but that's exactly what's happening when it comes to the issue of reforming Wall Street.

bauer here. erstwhile, bullfrog.
sorry about that terrible 'lord blauschild' stunt i pulled last saturday. and a special thanks to andy k. for pulling me back to my senses (you were right... you were right...)
i guess i thought if i made up some bull$#!+ cult around a "blue symbol", and changed my name to "blau schild", all my dreams would come true; i'd be tap-dancing forever on the sunny side of broadway, and i'd live happily ever after.
i was wrong. that name brought me nothing but wretchedness and misery. i was promptly revealed to be a fraudulent huckster, and i deserved everything i got.
but, i'm back. BAUER. it's german for farmer, or peasant, ya know. neither of which is anything to be ashamed of.
i'll be dropping comments for a few weeks, before i retire from the internets tubes for good.
i'll try to keep it real, not be an @$$, and spread the mellow peace vibes as best as i can.

good luck!
Apologies accepted, Bluegal, for the OReilly video....but, boy it was tough! Because of Keith Olbermann's request last week, I've been trying not to watch BOR, and not send him any emails....but every time I see that guy, I get pissed off and want to send him a nastygram again! I'll see how long I last before I start sending him emails again.
If C&L gets money from Soros, perhaps BOR will mention them on his show more often! After all, Soros is the "most dangerous man" in this country, according to BOR.
As far as the "radicals" BOR talks about, I wonder what his definition of "radical" is? My brother-in-law runs an organization with funding from George Soros, and I don't consider him to be a "radical" at all. He's rather mild mannered and even keeled. I guess anyone who disagrees with BillO is a "radical."
Where are the feminists, where is NOW on Lettermen's comments about Palin and her daughter? NOW is really only for liberal women, not ALL women. Where is C&L on this? This is not a political issue. It's awful no matter whose 14 year old daughter is the the subject of a joke about rape. HYPOCRISY!!!!!
he wasn't joking about rape, nor was he joking about a 14 yo doing it. He was talking about Bristol, the Pimped Out Pride of the Palins.
So your fake outrage is just that, and your call to arms is hollow and achingly stupid.
What a fucking idiot. Is your last name Palin by any chance?
me-oww!
Exactly. The jokes were not about rape. David, or his writers, I assume, thought that Bristol was accompaning Sarah to New York. You can say the jokes were in bad taste and even Letterman agrees to this, but to say they were about raping a 14 year old is really, really reaching.
