This morning I received an email, for real, reminding me it's ten weeks until Christmas. Good thing I forced the brilliant duo Paul and Storm to make a video for their "Way Too Early Christmas Song."

Powell Announces the New ‘Colon Doctrine’
http://satiricalpolitical.com/?p=4146
It's funny cause he used his last doctrine to wipe his ass and he flushed that down the toilet too.
“IT IS NECESSARY ONLY, FOR THE GOOD MAN TO DO NOTHING FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH. – Edmund Burke
thanks powell
Went to Walmart the other day and found an area dedicated to Xmas trees. Unbelievable.
Good old fashioned Communist Chinese ones of course, nothing uplifts the spirits at Xmas like christian religious icons made by slave labor in Chinese gulags.
It would shock people if they knew how much Walmart crap is made by slave prison labor, including the children of inmates.
Ho Ho Ho, clink clink clink goes the chain production line gang.
This year I told everyone if they vote for Obama, I got my wish and they can cross me off their list.
We're not going to get very far if you keep injecting logic into the conversation!
I did the same for my BDay which is right before the election. Don't forget about the house and the senate.
http://www.wvgazette.com/News/200810170676
Now I've got to figure out a way to verify if those cheap relatives of mine did!
We're not going to get very far if you keep injecting logic into the conversation!
I realize that some people have no choice but to shop at Walmart as they have taken over many rural communities as the only game in town, as it were, but I will not buy anything at Walmart ever again. When they opted to not pay their taxes properly and several states had to sue them, that was the camel's straw for me. Those multimillions of dollars that the wealthiest corporation on the planet wouldn't pay cuts police, fire and other services to the states they are screwing.
Fuck Walmart. Talk about anti American!
I don't know about all of you, but the number of Obama signs I see in my city FAAAAAR outnumber the McCain signs. It's so awesome to observe that not only have people woken up, but the progressives and Dems have become much more passionate and vocal. I remain giddly idealistic--from what I can see, Obama's going to win in a landslide next month. People have no idea. I'm so giddy !
That's really cool. We lived in ABQ in 2000, when Gore barely won--and a number of ballots went missing. There was a hotly contested state Senate race and a lot of anti-Democratic sentiment. I remember large groups of people standing at the corner of San Pedro and Menaul with banners reading: "Sore/Loserman." (In LIEberman's case, that was quite prescient.)
It's really positive to see a turnaround like this. Good on ya!
Muslim For McCain Not Allowed To Talk To CNN
Daniel Zubairi, a Muslim McCain grassroots organizer who told racist rally attendees in Woodbridge, Virginia that the campaign didn't "endorse that behavior," was for some reason not allowed to talk to CNN about the incident.
Anchor Rick Sanchez said Zubairi was "ready and willing" to talk, but "the McCain camp won't let him do so."

How to end Voter Fraud and Vote Suppression: Reclassify the Crime as Treason
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/20/65427/321/517/636127
As far as I'm concerned, Voter Suppression = Treason. It a) Subverts the government, b) Directly harms the citizens, and c) Puts the whole nation at risk. Treason. What's the penalty for that again?

http://www.wvgazette.com/News/200810170676
I believe that what the GOP truly did in 2000 and 2004 was treason. They played with people's rights at the ballot box and no one got caught.
Sadly, they have the guts to try this again. There are actually hecklers who are actively trying to block early voters from making their choice at the ballot box, according the Washington Monthly.
When I read that, I thought we had been transported back into the days of Jim Crow! It is getting that ugly out there. O_o

Stock market sort of recovering, pundits waffling about how well Haliburton is doing, Haliburton shares down from $32 to $16 then at about $22-21 today, talk of OPEC cutting output to push crude oil prices up again, a glut of oil on the market, gas prices dropping, now $2.49 or so. more talk of how the banks need more and more money.
They got two trillion dollars from the Treasury over the week ending 10/15.
If theres a glut of oil, a lack of demand, and production is going to be cut, surely Haliburton shares would be toxic not the magic vehicle to profit and recovery.
methinks somebody is gaming the stock market.
I think that the gaming has taken place over the last several years. Oil was manipulated so that it sucked dry every penny it could from the masses. Everything which has happened to our economy and the people in this country has been a manipulation to suck any possible wealth from the middle classes ensuring that we are happy with whatever little crumbs are thrown our way. Got a job and hate it? Well, at least you have a job!
Nothing but manipulation, all across the board.
Retailers across the country are expecting such a lousy X-mas season that the only way they can figure out how to survive is to make the season longer. The big box stores put out X-mas stuff here in the Midwest right next to the Halloween candy. I kid you not. Its so sad, because its the everyday working people who are going to get it in the chops again. *sigh* Happy X-mas, everyone.
Roci
It's happening in CA as well.
What are you talking about? It's like this EVERY year now. It's got precisely ZERO to do with the recent crisis.
Here in The burbs of Chicago, during the BASEBALL season, I actually heard a radio advertisement, during a Chicago Cubs game, for CHRISTMAS TREES!.
Thats right, the very first one I heard I remember the exact day. It was August 1st.
Because advertising for that the day before, would have destroyed the universe in a blast of horrible cliche's.
(Christmas in July?)
"Identity Through Consumption" is what they sold us

"Identity Through Consumption" is what we bought.
Gotta find a new paradigm for our economy.
Democracy is too important to be entrusted to politicians.

Pretty sums up what happens here so often.
"Identity Through Consumption" is the sales technique designed by psychiatrists hired by Madison Avenue advertising firms in the late 50's and early 60's to tap into the American public's amorphous sense of identity, to sell them more stuff.
You *are* the brand of car, beer, clothes, etc that you buy.
I consume therefore I am.
Consumito ergo Sum.
Democracy is too important to be entrusted to politicians.
Rise Up!

Conspicuous Consumption, perhaps?
That used to be called "Keeping up with the Jones'". Last week Mr. and Mrs. Jones across the street had their house foreclosed and their possessions were thrown into the street.
I just don't know how I'm going to keep up?
that voting for Chimpy in 2004 was a bad decision, as they sort and load up their gear into their car.

side slips down and chokes the baby.
This is basic engineering not rocket science, and modern crib design was pretty well sorted decades ago.
Strange way to enforce the one-child per family rule.
The major drawback to "letting the market decide" is that someone has to die to force the market to decide.
Of course people stop buying the inferior product - after a few tragedies that could have been avoided by sensible regulation.
Democracy is too important to be entrusted to politicians.
Rise Up!
Protest!
The regulations seem to be overbearing, but they do make sense most of the time.
But any company making shoddy here in the US generally gets serious sanctions by trading standards and the legal process.
Importers literally get away with murder by hiding behind the excuse that they merely import not manufacture.

McCain event draws 15 people
"A crowd of about 15 people assembled outside the airport's fence to see him descend from the plane."
"Phillips, who also saw John F. Kennedy at the Joplin Airport in 1962, said she was upset at the small size of the crowd gathered to see McCain.
McCain campaign volunteer Jane Stuart agreed. In 2000, when then-Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush visited the airport there was a much larger crowd, Stuart said."
you are in a chippy mood tonight. And presenting most excellent tuneage, if I may say so.
That was the coolest Christmas song ever.
'So you're an elf but you'd rather be a dentist'? Love it!
First of all, Christmas is way too commercialized these days.
BUY BUY BUY Presents and for those who don't buy YOU a present, well, they'll be on your shit list. Fuck it.
Fuck Christmas. Fuck Kerstmis.
Kerstmis used to be a commercial-free holiday in the Netherlands. 'Sinterklaas' (St. Nicholas) used to be the kinda-sorta-gift-giving holiday.
No longer. Also, I no longer celebrate either one. I just like the candy.... ;-)
I can't even begin to get into the spirit.
The gift of love is the best gift anyone can get. I hate the commercialism of a holiday. I remember some years ago there was an ad on a bus for a local mall; It's all about giving, it said.
At that point, I started boycotting Xmas. It is NOT all about giving THINGS. It is about giving and receiving love.

If they can stimulate jobs vs throwing money out to be spent I might agree. Otherwise people will just pay off bills which only helps out banks which already got a stimulus pkg. of $700,000,000,000.
My health care, or lack there of in the form of funding, needs a stimulus.
The Food Bank from which I once lived on, needs a stimulus.
However, throwing good taxpayer's money after bad gamblers of private monies, is NOT sound fiscal responsibility.

Far be it from me to point fingers at anyone who substitutes a public figure's actual name with a derisive and derivative nick name when criticizing. I indulge in that sophomoric and juvenile behavior all the time. You know, John McCain is Gone InSane, Romney is Mittens the Pander Bear, etc.
Yes, it's silly. And petty. But, the idea is to be at least marginally clever. The nick name should be not just derivative, but descriptive. And accurately descriptive. Otherwise, it's not even close to funny. It's only immature.

Greta van Susteren: "Reform Government" is a great phrase, but what exactly do you want to reform?
Sarah Palin: Well, you have to be willing to take on the good old boys. You have to be willing to take on your party at the right time if you must do so, which I have done also, which, of course, John McCain has done his entire career, put the people whom he was serving first, before party, before obsessive partisanship, and I so admire him in that.

Cartoonist Depicts Powell As Benedict Arnold In Blackface
As if Colin Powell needed one more reminder of the toxic level of political discourse that, in part, fueled his decision to endorse Barack Obama, political cartoonist Gordon Campbell has captured the moment by portraying Powell as Benedict Arnold, in blackface. Inscribed at the bottom of the cartoon is the phrase, "Benedict Powell, Race Patriot."
In remarks reported on by Politicker, Campbell echoed the sentiments of Rush Limbaugh, saying:
Some stuff you can't make up!
If you want another good song along these lines, check out Jackson Browne's "The Rebel Jesus."
We have early voting here in Nevada and Janet and i went to the polls together today and voted for Obama.
These are the polls that really count (as long as they are counted) and having gone early we know that no one is going to try to hand us a "provisional" ballot and try to convince us to use it.
Vote early!
That way you know you have not been denied your right by some sleight of hand and if there is a problem, a screw up, a phantom messing with your registration you have time to correct it.

WINFIELD, W.Va. -- Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.
This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain".
In both counties, Republicans are responsible for overseeing elections. Both county clerks said the problem is isolated.
They also blamed voters for not being more careful.

The long lines, boisterous voter rallies and handful of equipment hiccups that marked the first day of early voting Monday could portend a crush of voters through Nov. 4 for a history-making presidential election, Broward and Miami-Dade officials say.
From Coral Gables to Aventura, South Beach to Fort Lauderdale, polling places Monday had the feel of Election Day. The deep lines easily surpassed the first day of early voting four years earlier.
"I get this sense from my callers. Some have a sense of resignation but prayerful hope for divine intervention..."

Today's scandal: The news and the right have latched onto Biden's dumb remarks yesterday about Barack "being tested." It sure didn't take long for that blowhard/jackass to put his foot in his mouth. And with just two weeks to go, Barack is taking two days off to be with the ailing grandmother who raised him..? Is she so important you should lose? What better tribute to her, than to stay in the game and win?
Ugh... Why am I democrat again? PATHETIC!
Let me guess.
You are a Democrat because you are not a racist or a xenophobe?
Some ideas for pro-Obama campaign slogans:
EXPERIENCE WITHOUT JUDGMENT IS DANGEROUS
YOU CAN EVOLVE YOUR STAND ON ISSUES; YOU CAN'T CHANGE YOUR ABILITY TO MAKE SOUND JUDGMENTS AND DECISIONS
WHEN GOVERNMENT REDISTRIBUTES MONEY FROM TAXPAYERS AND GIVES TO THE WEALTHY AND CORPORATIONS, THAT'S GOOD GOVERNMENT; WHEN GOVERNMENT TAKES FROM CORPORATIONS AND THE WEALTHY AND GIVES TO THE MIDDLE CLASS, THAT'S SOCIALISM
THE ANTI-CHOICE POSITION ON ABORTION IS NOT ABOUT "WHEN LIFE BEGINS"; IT IS ABOUT THE END OF THE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE
I think those are good arguments, not great slogans.
One thing i do like about Obama is his disinterest in slogans.
McCain's slogans change every week. Last week it was "Joe the Plumber" and this week it is Socialism.
I voted for Obama yesterday and it was so much fun i wanted to do it again.
Noone would let me...

'Climate change is happening faster than previously predicted according to a new World Wildlife Fund report. Bringing together some of the most recent scientific reports and data, "Climate change: faster, stronger, sooner" reveals that global warming is accelerating more rapidly than the predictions made in the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report published in 2007. One of the most concerning aspects of recent data is evidence that, in some places, the Arctic Ocean is losing sea ice 30 years ahead of current IPCC predictions.
Summer sea ice is now forecasted to completely disappear in the summer months sometime between 2013 and 2040 -- something which hasn't happened for over a million years. ... World food production is also feeling the heat as yields of wheat, maize and barley had dwindled in recent months. In Europe, ecosystems in the North and Baltic Sea are believed to be experiencing their warmest temperatures since records began. And the Mediterranean is likely to experience an increased frequency of droughts.

Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught
will we realize we cannot eat money.
Loudon said it all years ago John :
Suddenly it's Christmas
Right after Hallowe'en
Forget about Thanksgiving
It's just a buffet in between.
There's lights and tinsel in the window
They're stocking up the shelves.
Santa's slaving at the North Pole
In his sweatshop full of elves.
There's got to be a build-up
To the day that Christ was born.
The halls are decked with pumpkins
And ears of Indian corn.
Dragging through the falling leaves
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Suddenly it's Christmas
Seven weeks before the day.
Suddenly it's Christmas
The longest holiday.
When they say "Season's Greetings"
They mean just what they say.
It's a season, it's a marathon
Retail eternity
And it's not over "til it's over
And you throw away the tree.
Outside it's positively balmy/barmy
In the air nary a nip.
Suddenly it's Christmas
Unbuttoned and unzipped.
Yes, they're working overtime
Santa's little runts.
Christmas comes but once a year
And goes on for two months.
Christmas carols in December
And November too.
It's no wonder we're depressed
When the whole thing is through.
Finally it's January
Let's sing "Auld Lang Syne"
But here comes another party
Shaped like a Valentine.
Suddenly it's Christmas
The longest holiday.
The season is upon us
A pox! It won't go away.
It's a season, it's a marathon
Retail eternity.
And it's not over until it's over
And you throw away the tree.
No it's not over until it's over
And you throw away the tree.
