Must be heard to be believed: this stud muffin's voicemails to a woman he hit on in a bar, is making the viral rounds quickly. After the second voicemail from "Dimitri the Stud," the woman in question gave it to her local radio station. Hilarity (and outrage) ensued. Found at one of my favorite literary blogs, Smart Bitches, Trashy Books.

the one with issues and is DERANGED is the caller.
hope she did not call back...the guy is a loser.

What was amazing was how he had worked himself up to defensive accusations about "why she wasn't calling him" and listing all her flaws, like it was two years into a relationship that was now angrily breaking up. Rather than calling someone who he had basically not even met, except for cruising quickly in a bar.

I shudder to imagine what he'd be like after it was two years in, and pray that no woman is foolish enough to find out.

I've gotten this reaction from men *in* bars.

Guy walks up to me and starts hitting on me. I give him several politely vague "I'm here with someone/I'm in a relationship" responses which he responds to not by taking the hint and walking away by becoming more aggressive.

I finally point blank tell him as politely as I can that I'm not interested and to please leave me alone.

Guy flips his shit and starts cursing at me, calling me a "frigid, ugly bitch" who should be grateful he was interested. Even though a couple minutes earlier he was trying desperately to get into my pants.

Took about 5 minutes, tops.

If you think this is a freakish or rare case, you're not paying attention.

Excellent article about varieties of universal health care programs in the advanced nations.

All the more remarkable in that it appeared in the Washington Post.

From Washington Post by way of Common Dreams:

Socialized Medicine? Not Quite

by T.R. Reid

As Americans search for the cure to what ails our health-care system, we've overlooked an invaluable source of ideas and solutions: the rest of the world. All the other industrialized democracies have faced problems like ours, yet they've found ways to cover everybody -- and still spend far less than we do.

I've traveled the world from Oslo to Osaka to see how other developed democracies provide health care. Instead of dismissing these models as "socialist," we could adapt their solutions to fix our problems. To do that, we first have to dispel a few myths about health care abroad:

the DLC / DSCC / DCCC will not sabotage the bill in two ways:
1) no general public option of any form, just privatized bullshit like Medicare part D. no one with a gubmint plan is allowed to sue.
2) mandated insurance (works so well in Mass.) for all over 18 years of age with stiff penalties. they must also make sure there is a wide gap to penalize the most people that they can. prison terms for unpaid fines. debtors prisons will be part of the budget.

The Commonwealth Connector can help you learn more about the health care reform law. The Connector administers two programs: Commonwealth Care and Commonwealth Choice. However, the employer-based system has two major weaknesses. First, and most obviously, it means keeping your health insurance is dependent on keeping your job. That means that your health is only insured to the extent that your job is insured -- and your job isn't insured. If you lose your job, or get a divorce from the spouse whose employer covers you, you have to find a new employer who offers a health plan, or you will be stuck in the individual market. Alternatively, if you get sick, you may be stuck in your job, no matter how much you may want or need to leave it.

Second, employers are dropping their health plans; the percentage of people covered through an employer has dropped from 64 percent in 2000 to 59 percent in 2007, and that decline is likely to accelerate. Why? Because, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation survey, the average annual premium for family coverage has already increased from $5,791 in 1999 to $12,680 in 2008 -- a 9 percent annual increase -- and a study published in Health Affairs forecasts that national health spending will grow at an average annual rate of 6.7 percent until 2017. Arithmetically, with each year that passes, it becomes harder for companies to keep their health plans without reducing benefits, reducing wages or increasing employee contributions to health plans.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/...

history. That directly effects the economy. What is it that you hourly wage earners and salaried employees don't get? Lower wages, higher insurance premiums equal less disposable income and the economy goes into the dirt. You and your families suffer more just because you want to accept the status quo.

constituent's picture

wages have been stagnate partially due to health care premium costs. like you said ron. health care premium/ins. is part of a person's wage. the rise in health care premiums does not allow for wage increase. with consumerism down business aren't hiring but laying off. consequently, health care insurance becomes less of a priority. i think we agree amongst other factors this is the blowback/result of NAFTA in my opinion. bringing down health care ins. cost will make us competitive. the notion that president obama is doing this on a whim is ridiculous. this is economic necessity.

Her name is Tracy and she told me the other day that when the Mass Plan started she had to sign up for insurance or face the penalty.

She told the Mass Plan folks her yearly salary (based on federal tax returns) and they estimated which plans she would qualify for. Then she shopped around and found what she thought was the best plan for the money.

Tracy is about 50 years old and her premium is about $100/wk. out of her check. Her deductible/year is $5000!

She said to me, "This is like not having insurance at all! And if something really bad happens to me, like a heart attack or car accident, how the hell is a person like me supposed to come up with $5000?!"

I've spent a good part of the past 6 weeks chatting it up with the locals here in The Berkshires and I'm telling you, the average Joe and Jane are NOT happy with the Mass Plan. Here's a website for all of you to check out:

Coal industry won't give up easily on using atmosphere as a dumping ground - http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/cif-gre...
Within the coal lobby itself, the biggest player is a multi-million dollar powerhouse called the "American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity" (ACCCE), an organisation receiving big bucks from major coal companies like Peabody Energy. A glance at ACCCE's website and its slick advertising would have you believe that the US can continue to burn "clean" green coal while at the same time deal with the issue of climate change.
Its website asks: "can we use coal and meet the commitment of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in response to climate change concerns? In a word — yes!" The reality is that the answer is actually an emphatic "no." Coal continues to be the largest contributor to climate change in the world, and emits around 1.7 times more carbon per unit of energy when burned than natural gas and 1.25 times as much as oil.

Private Insurance Companies to Make Out Like Bandits Under So-Called "Healthcare Reform." -- BuzzFlash Editor's Blog
- http://blog.buzzflash.com/node/9268
In a stunninng revelation in the LA Times today, it appears that that the for-profit health insurance companies are poised to make out like bandits under the so-called "health reform" bills being considered by Congress, particularly if they succeed in defeating the "government option" in the Senate.
The LA Times article is a must read because it shows that the "change" being supported by the WH is going to make the for-profit companies fatter and wealthier at the expense of a healthcare system bloated by the excessive administrative, profits, and grossly high salaries of the health insurance and drug companies.
Must Read - http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/washi...
As BuzzFlash has observed, "The health of the individual insures the health of the American nation."
It is tragic for us that President Obama doesn't have the courage of his promises to ensure such a goal.

Who's Tom Daschle, 'Architect' of Health Reform Working For? - http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheat-sheet/item...
Now, Senate leaders and President Obama are moving towards that plan and away from the public-option, to the dismay of the left. Daschle is a highly paid adviser to health care industry clients of a law and lobbying firm, though he is not a registered lobbyist himself. Critics say his advisory role to the White House is inappropriate, due to his lobbying ties.
But Obama and Daschle met as recently as Friday, and Daschle was introduced at one event as "the architect of President Obama's health care plan." Daschle says he favors a government-run insurance plan, but doesn't think it could pass, and that his support for a non-profit cooperative model has nothing to do with the interests of his industry clients.
I have a feeling quite a few Obama 08/Obama-Biden bumper stickers will be coming off of vehicles in the next 2 months....and his approval ratings will fall to Bushevik levels soon...

Screwing the Self Employed Out of Health Insurance - http://www.smirkingchimp.com/thread/23407
If you work for yourself, you are literally screwed out of large sums of money every year for health insurance. There are few differences in cost based on region or state regulation. Ultimately, plans in Salt Lake City and Boston cost the same, about $17,000 a year (premiums plus deductibles).
Despite the costs, many self employed are grateful to just have insurance since without it a major acute or chronic illness can bankrupt a family and the absence of care can be fatal.

Bob Herbert on the Obama Roll of the Dice with Expectations of Change - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/22/opinion/22h...
Maybe they’re wrong. Maybe the economy really is turning around. Maybe Mr. Obama is working on a bipartisan deal that will take us a few small steps down the road to real health care reform.
It’s possible that we’ve been without mature leadership for so long that it’s difficult to recognize it when we see it. Mr. Obama has proved the naysayers wrong time and again. But if it turns out that this time he’s wrong, hold onto your hats. Because right now there is no Plan B.

Honduras: Military Coup Engineered By Two US Companies? by John Perkins - http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?contex...
In writing my new book Hoodwinked (Random House, Nov 2009 publication date), I recently visited Central America. Everyone I talked with there was convinced that the military coup that had overthrown the democratically-elected president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, had been engineered by two US companies, with CIA support.
And that the US and its new president were not standing up for democracy. Earlier in the year Chiquita Brands International Inc. (formerly United Fruit) and Dole Food Co had severely criticized Zelaya for advocating an increase of 60% in Honduras's minimum wage, claiming that the policy would cut into corporate profits.
They were joined by a coalition of textile manufacturers and exporters, companies that rely on cheap labor to work in their sweatshops. Memories are short in the US, but not in Central America.
I kept hearing people who claimed that it was a matter of record that Chiquita (United Fruit) and the CIA had toppled Guatemala's democratically-elected president Jacobo Arbenz in 1954 and that International Telephone & Telegraph (ITT), Henry Kissinger, and the CIA had brought down Chile's Salvador Allende in 1973.
These people were certain that Haiti's president Jean-Bertrand Aristide had been ousted by the CIA in 2004 because he proposed a minimum wage increase, like Zelaya's.

Obama to health care critics: end `phony claims.' Barack, they won't stop until you start punching back. They've been doing this for 40 years. The only thing that stops them is a hard right to the jaw.

Illinois GOP forgets flag so they Pledge Allegiance to Gene, a man in a American flag t-shirt. What more can one say than we have a species of morons among us.

We don't inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children - Native American proverb
If being cold means there's no such thing as global warming, does being full mean there's no such thing as world hunger?

For someone who claims to be Greek, he displays some of the most tritely American "I'm Number One!" attitudes I've ever heard.

As other posters have noted, this is most likely a viral marketing thing done for a parody of all those pickup and "how to deal with women" sites out there.
Some of those sites actually do pass on some good information to men about how to approach women.
It's funny/sad that a lot of women take this seriously, it speaks about how many lame guys are out there.
On the other hand, I can't help wondering how well most of the women posters who think Dimitri is a piece of work would react to a post with real life recordings of some of the craziness that women do with men.
Cuz some ladies do...
No gender has a franchise on cheesy clueless and revolting behavior towards the other gender. Women give as well as get in that area.

I was commenting more on the reaction from women here and on other sites.
My comments about how both genders mess with the other and engage in inappropriate, crazy making behavior don't really change, however.
I'm not defending this guy, whether it is a stunt or not.
I'm just saying that there is plenty of misunderstanding and bad behavior on both sides of the gender aisle.
Some of the behavior of certain men is blood-curdling, without a doubt.
Certain types of female behavior is pretty bad as well.

It may be a hoax, but I've known guys who use the same kinds of attitudes and lines when trying to pick somebody up. In a salesman-dominated culture where honest self-reflection is equated with "thinking negative" and "depression", this kind of behavior probably isn't that uncommon.

I work in the military healthcare realm and we're trying to push online appointment scheduling. When I asked for some information for a point paper, I was informed that many junior Soldiers with families don't have internet access.
I had no idea.
I assumed everyone could afford at least dial-up service, if they are in the military. I guess that's not necessarily the case.
Granted, a lot of the problem boils down to poor management of finances, but for our younger and junior servicemembers, life is a little more difficult than it was for me when I joined in 1990.
The amount of predatory lenders, insurance hoaxes and internet scams have really taken their toll on our more vulnerable service members.

"Now Olga, I'm not going to leave another message...if you don't call me by 3pm tomorrow then I'm not interested. This time I really-really-really-really mean it, umkay. I am a very intelligent guy, now I know that some people including my doctors and the Toronto authorities would have you believe otherwise...don't believe them...they are just jealous of my infinite intelligence. Now, when you call me back, if you should hear a woman screaming for help in the background, don't take it as a sign that I am a bad person..."
