Beware those unelected, power-crazy Czars. Larger version here.

In related news, an Australian news executive has publicly called out Murdoch's News Corporation as a "diminishing empire." (h/t Ken W.)

Why the fuck do we have to pay into insurance when there's no guarantee that we can get covered when we need it? Might as well just play the goddamn lottery.

God, I hate these people!

That is why I believe we need to put the insurance companies out of business through boycott. At the rate things are going it will be the same as if people just dumped gasoline on their money and lite a match.

I wonder if he said that with a straight face. This is the guy that oversaw the dismantling of regulations practiced for 60 years. And initiated the super bubble, the bubble to end all bubbles.

This is the firebug who poured the gasoline, lit the fire and now shows up with a firemen's helmet. Actually it is good advise, too big to fail is to big to jail and is to big to exist. Break them up, do meticulous audits and march the crooks off to the hoosegow.

Doesn't the notion of "too big to fail" describe that the public interest in something is so great that it should/must be under public stewardship? These companies' losses have already been socialized. If the societal impact of their failure is so catastrophic, then why not pull the rest of the entire enterprise into the public domain along with the losses?

Yeah, I know. That will happen real soon. Holding breath starting.......now "ah-humph!"

he was the first person I heard utter the word FRAUD in connection with the 2008 'banking crisis' - I think on Moyers show back at the beginning of the year.

And, Elizabeth Warren is cool, too. Each of them is a truth-teller and does so in plain, easy to understand English. More Americans should listen to them. Problem is, neither has any power to put their ideas about regulations and systemic changes to the banking/finance wing of the Corpora-fascists into effect.

Unfortunately, the people with the power to change things - the Congress critters - are all wholly-owned subsidiaries of the banksters and their Fed friends. We are so-o-o-oooo screwed!!!

supposed to be regulating the content of these stations that are using the "People's airwaves"???

As a progressive I am of course dead set against the definition of the corporation under law, which says that the interests of stockholders MUST come above all else, including any vestiges of moral or ethical standards. Which is why Joel Bakan's excellent documentary The Corporation concludes that if the idea that a corporation as a person is to be accepted, that person would be an unprincipled sociopath.

But this definition could really bite Murdoch on the ass. It's quite clear that he has been running his empire counter to his fiduciary responsibilities -- the dispensing of propaganda has been elevated above the bottom line as a priority.

If a block of stockholders were to launch a class action suit, he could conceivably lose it all. What poetic justice there would be in that. Oh, the irony!

Vogue France doesn't care about black people. A Louisiana justice of the peace thinks he's doing interracial couples a favor by refusing to marry them. Brazilians and Lithuanians have more vacation days than Americans. Housing insurers are dropping policies of home-owners screwed over by toxic Chinese drywall. Kate Hutchinson's only concern about Perry fucking up an execution is it gives ammo to anti-death penalty advocates. No bonus for Ken Lewis, for some reason. Foreclosures went up 5% in September. One billion people around the world are hungry. Economists lack confidence in the "rebound" and are even speculating that it's another bubble. You might want to go easy on the Tylenol for your baby(ies). Obama forced to defend his record on New Orleans. At least children's dental needs are covered in health care. Jeb's doing a heckuva job on education. Insurers are lying and Geithner is incompetent. The Senate is all that's left in protecting gays from hate crimes. Goodbye, Arctic ice.

Why doesn't George Soros BUY Fox "News"?

If you were a billionaire...had the cash...hated everything they've done to America...

Just a few days ago...Oct. 14th (from CleanTechnica):

"Philanthropist and businessman George Soros announced this week that he would be the next in a line of wealthy front-runners to fund initiatives in clean technology. Soros is the founder of hedge fund Soros Fund Management LLC, and has been known for making monetary contributions to other charitable efforts that effect the well-being of society, such as health care and eduction; now he’s shifting his focus to play a part in reducing the impact of climate change.
Soros will establish the Climate Policy Initiative, an organization that will work with the US, China, India, Brazil and Europe and ensure that public interests are represented as new issues that affect climate change are established. According to Thomas Holler, who will lead the initiative, “It will be part advisory service, part policy developer and part watchdog,” Soros’ major role in the Climate Policy Initiative will be through his contribution of $10 million for year for the next 10 years.
Soros has also pledged to invest $1 billion in clean energy technology, contributing to the estimated $1 trillion needed to keep the globe’s temperatures in check; ensuring that they don’t rise beyond 2 degrees Celsius per year as a result of global warming."

Just imagine if you could turn Fox "News" into a 24-hour a day channel devoted to fighting global warming...isn't that worth a few bucks?
