wow

That was fun to watch!

...that was pretty incredible.

Truly wild!

miss_kitty's picture

and it's an ad for the BBC? Those damned mature English people and their ability to see nudity as 'not filth.'

cartoons in Le Monde, I am shocked. :S Some of that puritanical Americanness is a part of me whether I like it or not. :\

I've never seen change without a fire

calgarylady's picture

Those crazy Brits!

;)

SadButTrue's picture

It started off predictably with Dr. Who and Coronation Street, but now I'm addicted to Sarah Jane Adventures, Premier League Snooker, Merlin, Misfits, and Torchwood of course.

A lot of it, like Torchwood, dares to tackle things that US TV wouldn't be comfortable with. And Misfits is so out there it wouldn't even be up for consideration. The aforementioned puritanical American-ness is to blame.

ron's picture

it's all about how the terrorists are out there. NCIS, all of he CSI series and more for family viewing.

ron's picture

that these shows are another form of the brainwashing propaganda just like 24 don't ya?

calgarylady's picture

'I, Claudius' comes to mind ...

Another BBC masterpiece, imo.

miss_kitty's picture

I'm not getting sci fi anymore. so I'm missing the Dr Who stuff, but when PBS has the odd week they aren't running ass-tastic pledge shite, they have an occasional winner on there. I like New Tricks and Doc Martin. I just saw Collision on Masterpiece Theater and enjoyed it, too. If you hurry, you can watch it online.

Did you know that Ken Barlow's (Bill Roache) son is DA Cutter (Linus Roache) on Law and order? That's a fake American accent.

Edwin's picture

I followed Coronation Street for years: back in the days with Hilda Ogden. I don't get it in Asia. :(

I'm sick of all those CSI shows (see below). I have never liked cop shows to begin with. What's the fixation with crime and punishment over there?? The Koreans love it and they're all on, all the time. (gag) Good thing I'm finding goodies on the tubes.

miss_kitty's picture

They have to bring in a serial killer every few years to keep the numbers up. Some of the older actors can't keep up with the shooting schedule now that it's on 5 days a week. Maggie Jones, who played Diedre's mum since '74 just died after an op about 3 days ago.
The cast is getting younger and prettier with a bit more dosh, you know, Americanised. Eastenders did the same. We used to get that here, but not anymore. I liked it a lot too.

Edwin's picture

The aforementioned puritanical American-ness is to blame.

Much of the world has the mistaken idea that the USA is very liberal. I have to correct them. That's why they were so SHOCKED in 2004, when you-know-who was put back in the WH.

the only ones shocked Ken Blackwell and the whole Ohio election committee should be in prison.

Edwin's picture

I used a carefully chosen word there. I was shocked too. I thought surely... but nope.

There is a liberal America, but it's not in the mainstream and never has been.

elections 3 people were convicted in Ohio but most of the Nation doesn't know it because it doesn't play well in the MSM. No reason to parse words, spread it around, let the whole world know.

SadButTrue's picture

..is that you want to keep that particular tactic in your play book.

And BTW, if you really like Brit TV, just look for it on torrents.

"In theory theory and practice are alike. In practice they are very different."

Edwin's picture

For sure it is. It's transparent and nauseating.

Do you think they put an entire CSI team on every crime? Like say it's a hooker in a motel, or you or me. Nope.

One of Mittens 5 kittens-- absolutely.

Freerunning has had its day and its biking now?

Syncronicity. Rewatched the chasing scene from District 13, some parkour and freerunning on YouTube just the other day. Howard Gardner's physical intelligence. Amazing what a person can do when you hone the inner primate.

District B13 - Chase Scene
Andy K turned me on to it. It's the best chase evah...

Incredible. Thanks, miss_kitty and Andy K!

As I liked yesterday's Christmas video too, I looked for the movie. I've never seen it before. It seems it's on YouTube. Part 1:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJBZwnVcPCM

[edit: I was disappointed by the full feature: it sure wasn't Rudolph (Rankin/Bass). The songs bluegal posted were the best part. Also, the show was a bit too America-centric for me. I guess that's their right, but...]

Searching for Wiccan Chants on YouTube I found this.

I was spellbound.

A beautiful, sensual dance performed by Serena Pullen, filmed by Bob Thornburg, scored to "Burning" by Rumors Of The Big Wave. The dance takes place in a richly lit culvert painted with awesome grafitti.

Burning Dance

.. yet another use for grafitti'd culvert ..

The bike riding also.. seemed so real until I finally noticed that there were virtually no other people around and had there been, it wouldn't have worked and noticed that there were no safety precautions taken and that the young imitators impaling themselves were not on camera.. Interesting comparison, the bike riding and the dance.. the bike riding seeming so real yet actually fantasy and the dance seeming like fantasy but actually real..

Edwin's picture

Did you also notice it was filmed over a period of three months, and looked to be done around dawn and dusk? It's wasn't just a spin around town one day.

Guardian UK: Euros become currency of drug cartels

Smugglers and launderers use €500 notes instead of $100 bills to save space

International drug cartels have abandoned the US dollar for high denomination euros to launder millions in illegal profits, Europol has revealed. The gangs no longer use $100 bills because €500 notes – the largest denomination of euro – take up less room when transporting large amounts of cash across the world.

...a sign of impending implosion of the dollar. Look into the story: statistics are from 2007; it's about the physical room that the bills take up, although the mention of money coming in vs. going out of Colombia is telling.

Pentagon's War Pitch Belied by Taliban-Qaeda Conflict

In short ..

Pakistan Taliban is not same as Afghan Taliban. They have different objectives, each concentrated in its own country.

Pakistan Taliban have split ranks with Al Qaeda in Pakistan, as Al Qaeda wants to overthrow Pakistani govt but Pakistani Taliban receive benefits from the govt.

Fun tricks. But the REALLY AMAZING cyclists are the ones who, day in day out regardless of the weather commute from home to work on their bicycles.

THAT is vastly more impressive than grandstanding bike tricks.

...there's always someone that just HAS to down anything. This is an exhibition of incredible skill, and you're whining "Well, he's not riding to work..." (sneering, with lip curled)

Gimme a break. Yah, the YouTube video of people riding to work would be highly praised by Soviet Political Officers...(riding to work shows Class-Conciousness, Grandstanding Bike Tricks are Counter-Revolutionary and should be denounced by Right-Thinking Party Members...)

"Ronald Reagan is DEAD! His policies live on but we're doing something about THAT!"

Thanks for that, leftykook. I considered for just a moment that my bicycle enthusiast friend would enjoy this video, but he would have sneered at the fact it wasn't a fixed gear road bicycle and is not being used to obstruct traffic, therefore it is unworthy in his eyes.

Edwin's picture

tweaker... for 15 years I walked to work (regardless of the weather), thus no factories were engaged to produce anything, nor oil consumed. Whhaaa-nna see the video of that?

"Growth is not evil, it just isn't permanent. In nature, all growth stops. New organisms may replace the old, but there exist no cases in nature of endless growth. As Dr. Albert Bartlett at the University of Colorado points out, "After maturity, continued growth is either obesity or cancer." In a finite world, we cannot grow ourselves out of overshoot."

Above is a great short read/ reminder about biology, economics and growth.

Numbers ruin everything. It's something I discovered a long time ago. many of our problems can be traced back to the sheer numbers of us, and the density in which we live. Also our assumptions for economic growth are flawed and have made some of us downright evil.

MaryK's picture

Thanks.
