Open Thread: New Blue America Candidate Saturday

OMG! What every Shakespearian tragic stupid beyotch heroine totes needs is a sassy gay friend! From the new YouTube channel for The Second City Network.

UPDATED via Howie Klein:

So far Blue America has only endorsed two candidates for 2010. Howie, Digby and I are being very picky and very careful. We only want to ask for contributions for candidates who are going to make the Democratic caucus more responsive to working families instead of special interests. So we endorsed two old friends, Alan Grayson and Mary Winograd.

But tomorrow at 11am (PT) we'll be introducing you to a brand new candidate, a fearless progressive from the north, a highly decorated military officer who isn't afraid to stand with women for their right to Choice and with gays for their right to marry. And we're talking about someone in an evenly split swing district. And... it's Howie's birthday tomorrow, so, in lieu of a present (or some gibberish on his Facebook wall) how about one dollar for the new Blue America candidate?

I am sick of the coverage of CPAC. Reminds me of the KKK having a convention. Staying away from TV and web articles because of that. Did Netroots convention or like liberal meeting get as much press? Like hours of CSPAN video. Just sick of the lying and the press looking the other way.

fastfeat's picture

Between CPAC and the "Bagger convention, I don't think I've seen 1000 people get this much coverage since, well, I don't recall.

Wait What? Your posting a video on a progressive website that shows conservatives booing an anti-gay person?

DaveZ's picture

when Kyle's mom does it. I think it's great how you went through the trouble of using a '-' in anti-gay, but you don't know how to abbreviate "you are."

Timjoebillybob's picture

yes I do. It's you're. But pardon my mistake, it doesn't matter to the comment I made since you obviously understood it.

DaveZ's picture

I was very confused. It completely ruined your sarcastic joke! I thought through that entire sentence you were describing a course of action... Until I got the the end and was disappointed by the question mark.

To be honest, it is a cliche answering a cliche that made me want to pick on a typo. Just felt right at the time.

Timjoebillybob's picture

you weren't that confused since you commented on my grammatical error.

But yes I understood that you were just attempting to bash a right-wing poster.

DaveZ's picture

You ever hear Alan Rickman's answering machine?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6s6A1tsavo

Maybe you just used up all the good ideas for today? I don't know!

Please tell me when you figure out I'm not at all serious...

Timjoebillybob's picture
No

I hadn't heard that before but thanks for the link.

And are you saying that you wouldn't of called me out for the mistake if it wasn't against what you think?

DaveZ's picture

was the equivalent of asking a fireman where he's driving his truck so fast. Yeah I guess it's sarcasm but to me it just screamed "Pick on my grammar, I deserve it!"

It's ok. Ricky didn't get my humor either. But that's probably cause he was the first person Carrot Top beat up when he got all buff. I know there's a steroid joke in there somewhere; it will make me rich one day. You'll see.

ron's picture

Timbillyblowjob, you're a right wing poster? Please, please don't say it.

Timjoebillybob's picture
Ron

can't you come up with an actual rebuttal of my post? Must you attempt to make 3rd grade insults of my posting name? Please, please try harder.

ron's picture

that's the best I can come up with tonight.

Timjoebillybob's picture
You

should of left of tonight.

ron's picture

Hmmm, what does that mean?

frank lee speakin's picture

Susie lee done fell in love.
She planned to marry joe.
She was so happy bout it all,
She told her pappy so.

Pappy told her, Susie gal,
You’ll have to find another.
I’d just as soon yo’ ma don’t know,
But joe is yo half brother.

So Susie put aside her joe
And planned to marry will.
But after telling pappy this,
He said there’s trouble still.

You can’t marry will, my gal,
And please don’t tell yo’ mother.
But will and joe and several mo’
I know is yo’ half brother.

But mama knew and said, my child,
Just do what makes yo’ happy.
Marry will or marry joe;
You ain’t no kin to pappy!

Timjoebillybob's picture

I made another typo, should of been "Should of left off tonight" If you can't figure that out, enough said.

ron's picture

about time.

DaveZ's picture

The phrase "should of" appears enough to make it clear that wasn't the typo he referring to.

ron's picture

Is everyone having a few drinks tonight?

DaveZ's picture

I find it funny in my way. But intoxication may be an element involved. That's between me and my conscience and on party lines, my behavioral justices all decided to take lunch at the same time.

ron's picture

I have to go bed. GNA.

Pennsylvania parents are suing their son's school, alleging it watched him through his laptop's webcam while he was at home and unaware he was being observed.

Michael and Holly Robbins of Penn Valley are suing the Lower Merion School District, its board of directors and the superintendent. The parents allege the district unlawfully used its ability to access a webcam remotely on their son's district-issued laptop computer.

The lawsuit seeking class-action status was filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The suit said that on November 11, an assistant principal at Harriton High School told the plaintiffs' son that he was caught engaging in "improper behavior" in his home and it was captured in an image via the webcam.

fastfeat's picture

but certainly bears repeating.

I guess I want to know is does the computer have to be left on? Can it be awoke from "Hibernate" mode by someone wanting to use the webcam from the school's end?

Until tonight. There are really times when I wonder why bother even reading about the world. Then I talk to people who don't and decide there are, indeed worse things I could be than a news junkie.

fastfeat's picture

Too much to absorb if you try to keep up with it all. But trying to bury your head and ignore it all, well, makes you a Palin.

Timjoebillybob's picture

the little I know about this (no idea of the program used) it can or cannot turn a computer or the webcam on by remote. Some can wake a computer that's on hibernate or even turned off depending on the computers settings. It all depends on the program used.

And the main question is why just a civil suit? Why the hell are they not pressing criminal charges?

MountainMan23's picture

The FBI began a criminal investigation as soon as the civil suit was filed.

Not soon enough!

Which means he probably didn't even recognize how bad it was. Unless he wanted that information to go straight back to the parents.

Timjoebillybob's picture

But what about state laws? Which the FBI can't enforce? Pennsylvania has pretty tough laws laws from what I understand about invasion of privacy, which includes things such as this.

"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn

surfjac's picture

..I'm going to write to my Senators and Congressmen but essentially since the DOJ is telling us the "torture memos" were okay, just, what was it, misguided or "in poor judgment", I am going to ask them to introduce legislation to require the judgments of Nuremburg to be set aside as well as ALL past convictions of any war criminal accused of torture. This will include the cops who sodomized Abner Louima (my apologies to Mr. Louima and his family for re-visiting that horrible episode.) and any other law enforcement officer who was caught abusing/torturing a suspect. After all, it was just "poor judgment". AND they announced it on a Friday.

I'm done with the Obama administration. Gutless cowards! For all the good they have done, all the good they could do is being giving a short shrift. I almost feel as if they are forcing through the Public Option, if indeed they actually get something of value like that done, as a "gift" to the American people to compensate for all of their failings. If I can make a case for impeachment of the President over this, I will do that too. Except, ms. pelosi will only take impeachment off the table and deny us our right to checks and balances much the same way she did with w, who is the living, breathing example of poor judgment.

I'm utterly, thoroughly disgusted with this nation's leaders at this point. I use to think they had something to offer, I used to think they'd get the country back on track. But in a way, they're worse than w and his crime family because they are being covert about stabbing America, this once great nation of laws, in the back and turning it into somewhere I don't want to live any more.

Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"

Throw this on top of the SC ruling a couple weeks back and I'm ready to go. Lost my job this week too. The only thing keeping me in this country is my 12-year old dog. If it weren't for her, I'd be on a plane to Darwin or Costa Rica.

Mentally at least, I'm just about done here.
