Today I heard that the guy here in San Diego whose Prius hit 94 MPH and had to be assisted by CHP never put the car in neutral despite repeated questioning and later urging by 911 operator. His reason? It might rollover ???
Clearly, this guy is either a fraud, or a moron. Though nowadays, I think most 'Mericans are too stupid even to handle an automatic transmission. Sure, many could answer that "N" means "neutral", but how many, really, can explain what the neutral position of a transmission does! Think about it; most Americans can only name three of our presidents. Many kids don't have dads, shop classes, a beater car in someone's garage where kids wrench and learn.
I think we're dismissing this Toyota problem too easily. Sure, Toyota's probably got some problems here. But we should look closely at whether some of our skills behind the wheel are not up to the level needed to make emergency diagnoses and decisions behind the wheel.
