The headline on Drudge just now is of some wacko "Santa" who just killed 8 people.

Where have we gone so badly as human beings for such things to happen in the world?

The wars, the lying, the conniving, the raping and murder.

Why?

Where/when have we fucked up so badly to lead to where the planet is today?

It may sound trivial, but I cannot even find any dried black beans online that are NOT genetically modified!

It's a Frankenworld this Christmas day.

and I wonder if it will ever be possible to go back to Sanity Land or some semblance thereof.

Yes, it sure seems like western civilization has diverged since W took office. Imagine how much progress could've been made over the past 8 years with either Al Gore, or any leader of more intelligence. Obama may be the last-ditch effort to restore the American image.

As for when the country went on the wrong track there are at least 3 possibilities:

1) When Nixon came to power and pioneered divisive politics.

2) When Ford pardoned Nixon.

3) When George W. Bush was president-elect over default of the US Supreme Court.

All 3 +

Also, some people think the US has gone down hill since the JFK assassination along with the conspiracy theories of what likely happened.

If wimpy Carter would have tied a bow around the Shah's head and shipped his evil butt back to Iran the world would be so different.

No Iranian Crisis
No Reagan
2nd Carter term
More Alt energy

I see it over and over again. People saying that it's only been the last 8 years since America lost it's goodness. Wake up. The country has been going downhill for over a century. The American dream has been a myth for decades. The government of the country has raped and murdered millions of people the world over all in the name of American progress. If it's good for America, who the fuck cars what harm it does to the rest of the world. Americans have had their heads in the sand for years. Revelations come out time and again about some horror that was done in the American name in years past and everyone says: "that's horrible, but it wont happen again, we'll hold a commission and get to the bottom of it". Well, it's happened dozens and dozens of times in all parts of the globe. Face it, the United States of America has been and continues to be the worst empire of all time. More people have been harmed in this empires reign than in any other empire the world has seen.
For the poor simple schmucks that say that Gore would have changed everything or that now Obama is going to change everything, I say "wake up". Nothing at all will change until we as human beings change it ourselves. Al Gore could have challenged Bush in the Senate, he chose not too. He acquiesced without a fight. John Kerry could have challenged his loss as well. He too gave in without even the facade of a struggle. Politics is all a game. It's all an act that we the people keep falling for over and over again. If any person is elected who shows any signs of having a backbone and being willing to stand up and shout foul, he is either bought off or suffers a mysterious accidental death. Look at some of the so called progressives in politics now. They talk a really good talk about changing the system and helping the people but when it comes time to really stand up and fight. They sit down and hide.
We are ruled by the super rich who don't care about us at all. AT ALL. We are their slaves. We toil in our shitty jobs day after day, struggling to make enough to pay the rent and have food for the kids, so they can enjoy their lives of luxury and splendor. We must rise up and shake off the bonds that hold us as slaves. We must stop spending in their mega-stores. We must stop using credit that is killing any hope of progress we ever have. We must tear down the corporations that seek to enslave us further and further, killing unions, pitting workers one against the other, paying wages that do not even come up to the poverty line. We must rise against governments that pay lip service to the people ever 4 years and then continue sucking off their corporation masters.
The world belongs to US. We the people are supremely powerful, but only if we can unite as one and say: ENOUGH. We will no longer be the passive sheep that our schooling and media has made us. We will not be slaves any more. We will not continue to quietly bow down before our masters and submit.
We will be ONE. We will take control of our destinies and see a better world.

My thoughts exactly ..

And I certainly could not have said it better ..

Doubt I could have said it as well ..

The "Halcyon Days of Yore" simply do not exist. Sure, we were all taught in elementary school how wonderful "our" country is .. only to be disillusioned later when we awaken to the horror of what has been done in our name. But lacking in proper education in history (cf the American phrase "that's history" - ie, "who cares?) few of us have even the remotest understanding of the massacres "our" country has perpetrated in the past. The Mexican War was a put-up job (so said General Ulysses S. Grant, who was there & helped start it, under orders) and that's how the US acquired The West. Our "liberation" of the Phillipines was a carefully disguised (from the public) takeover. Count the American Natives slaughtered. Etc, etc, etc.

And what was the outcome to the American Civil War? Millions of ordinary folks died so that we all could be the indentured servants of the Rich, and yet our "history books" tell us how noble that war was, freeing the slaves - to become indentured servants with the rest of us.

Who won World War Two? The American Fascists who financed both sides, creating the Anglo-American Military Industrial Complex.

WAKE UP !!!

It's just that we are slowly waking up to how messed up it has been all along. A matter of perspective, really. The main difference is that now we have actual tangible means to change it for the better (and no, I'm not referring to Obabma's election, though that's a good start).

Yow. (hands MGA1619 the bullhorn)

)O(

Al Franken finally won?

Snow people can never take over the planet!!!! Global Warming will stop them. :D

You'll never be rid of the snow people...

they can migrate.

climate change doesnt mean the end of snow; just differences--"changes" (duh)--in the rate and where it falls. Portland and Seattle don't EXPECT this weather. They aren't prepared...they can't be...But it's probably gonna get MORE usual, as more global water vapor circulates, in consequence of rising temperatures thousands of miles away.

Weather is NOT "Climate." Chuy...

Snow people can never take over the planet!!!! Global Warming will stop them. :D

You can't stop us, we will disguise ourselves as water.

... resistance is futile!

we separate your components, H2O?

We have very effective contingency plans for people like you ...

And we for you.

:)

Hydrogen will be used for fuel. Your evil plot is foiled.

*Foiled again*! I hate that!

You'll be able to breath real oxogen.

is that like 'wok on the wild side'?

hehe

Yeah, you want to walk with me?

Nothing like a nice brisk walk in -20 weather! Ah, so invigorating!

walk real fast. Damn you for the climate change.

It's like eating Corn Flakes, you have to eat them really fast before they get soggy!

they came out with the sugar frosted flakes, so you would eat more of them faster.
Are we the only ones here?

Maybe everybody is passed out from turkey and pumpkin pie overload.

I myself just had some French chocolate truffles and I'm starting to feel a little drowsy, to be honest.

ps, I like it when the thread gets really narrow like this.

Will not makr things thinner.

though!

It's been a slice! I had fun tonight.

Good night, everyone ... and sleep well, ron!

GNA, I'm in the same mode.

... the discovery of Billo's breakdown!!

And there is new footage about that!!!

Green Solution To Holiday Obesity
Surgeon uses human fat to run his cars

With this technology the USA has licked it's energy problems. You've got enough fat to export fuel.

Chertoff re-writes the safety of our country in favor of Bush, especially in light of another anthrax scare. China's schools are now unsafe. If you can pay free tuition for 60 students, then why not the whole lot of 'em?
Mom and Pop toy companies which make safe products won't be victims of new lead rules.

When they got the PDAs saying there was going to be an attack, they ignored them. Now they use B.S. to scare us. How gullible do they think we are?

VERY.

they didn't ignore them.

they just knew they weren't the targets.

see: secret service responses.

figure it out.

The show "Russia Today" is being run late night on San Diego's ABC TV affiliate. I don't know if the station is paying for it, or if "Russia Today" is being run like an infomercial. I think it's really creepy to have this on.

Bush Grants Then Revokes a Pardon

On Dec. 23 President Bush pardoned Isaac Toussie, who had defrauded low-income home buyers, then on Dec. 24 he revoked the pardon. It is a bit early to tell how this will play out, but suppose Toussie goes to federal court to claimed "once a pardonee, always a pardonee" and loses. In other words, supposes the courts rule that if President's have to power to pardon, they also have the power to revoke a pardon. That could have implications if President Bush pardons members of his administration on his last day in office and then incoming President Barack Obama revokes the pardons. This is definitely uncharted territory.

Or its shows he is surrounded by the dregs of the Repug's legal staff now.
Fancy establishing a precedent that could be used on himself and Cheney, DOH !

The best post I came up with so far during the Christmas Season.

Christmas Tree Surgery Harder Than It Looks

Broke the big toe on my right foot by kicking one (whilst in a fit of anger) which had evolved into a big, frozen metaball. That was in my younger and more reckless days though..

Now, whenever I see one of those cold and imposing bastards, I run home first and grab my blowtorch :D

President-elect Barack Obama has replaced US President George W. Bush as the most admired man in America, according to a poll published Friday in the USA Today newspaper.

One-third of the 1,008 respondents surveyed named Obama as their first or second choice, with Bush falling to a distant second after seven years as the country's most-admired man.

Thirty-two percent of respondents chose Obama against five percent for Bush. It was the first time a president-elect topped the poll since Dwight Eisenhower in 1952.

More here.

No wonder I never read USA Today, even when it is given away at motels where I travel...

Too little, too late.
see above link.

It’s the Christmas mornings that really make you remember the important things in life.
As my wife once said when she found me in the living room naked and waiting for her to come down stairs for her special Christmas Surprise.
“I’m not your wife! And the restraining order said you can’t be within five miles of my house!”
I can still smell the hot coffee she threw in my face, as she speed dialed the police. I always thought it was cute the way she had reduced 911 to a single button push. And you know I don’t drag my leg now as much as I did after she had hit me on the head with her Blackberry. It was almost a laughable moment for me later in the cell when I passed bloody stool with several teeth imbedded in it from when she had caressed my cheek with a faux Tiffany lamp, you know, the ones with the yellow and red butterflies; that seemed to have left an impression on the plate they had installed in my head after our last wedding anniversary.
Family, that’s what Christmas is all about.

Brings to mind Chimp's response to 911 was for Americans to go out and shop some more.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/26/world/asia/...

Chimp used 911 to go into Iraq AND to get us more in debited to the Chinese.

Thanks again Chimp, great job and great legacy, you've wrecked 2 countries and brought to an end America's dominance in the world.

I'm starting to think, the entire US economy, under BushCo., was one big ponzi scheme, and now it's collapsing.

Lend homeowners enough money to get into the stock market, pay the top tier impressive dividends, salaries and bonuses; expand; unlimted. But now the bottom tier of the pyramid is broke, and the flow upward has ceased, and now it's all crumbling.

The idea was, some of it would trickle back down (but not much), with interest, making the rich even richer.

It's really that simple, if anyone has watched the Madoff story.

)O(

It's Snowzilla!!!
