Result - a scandal which says that Obama would like to drive the coal industry bankrupt. One good enough for Sarah Palin to tout on the stump.
The original quote, presented in a cropped clip of an Obama interview that discussed his policy on climate change and carbon "cap and trade", looked terrible for Obama. Especially in places like West Virginia and Ohio:
That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants are being built, they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted-down caps that are imposed every year. So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted. That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel, and other alternative energy approaches.
But it's just the Right cherry-picking its quotes again to fabricate a smear out of whole cloth.
This from the same interview - and unmentioned by the unethical smear-merchants at Newsbusters, who first floated the rightwing's version of the truth:
"But this notion of no coal, I think, is an illusion. Because the fact of the matter is, is that right now we are getting a lot of our energy from coal. And China is building a coal-powered plant once a week. So what we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon. And how can we sequester that carbon and capture it. If we can’t, then we’re gonna still be working on alternatives."
Shows clearly that Obama meant only plants not using clean-coal technology would be hit.
And that is also McCain's position.
On June 21, 2005, Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH) told McCain in a Senate debate that his legislation to curb climate change would "put coal of out of business." McCain didn't contest that claim. Indeed McCain agreed that his legislation would "require sacrifice" acknowledging that critics said it would cost "thousands of jobs."
But you won't be hearing that from Newsbusters, Drudge, Malkin, Fox News, Palin or any of the many others who climbed on this "November Surprise" bandwagon.

The GOP is trying to insure that the wingnuts don't stay home, or this election will be a rout. They are fighting uphill against Obama having a clear mandate.
A five point popular vote margin is a ROUT in national politics. A 100 point electoral win is a landslide.

The outcome of this election, one fact remains, clean coal is a myth. Only alternative clean fuels can be considered. Coal is not one of them. The sooner people realize this, the sooner we can start to clean up the gigantic mess we are in.
After this election is over...will Caribou Barbie take a vacation...or will she immediately begin giving lapdances to the GOP elite as she tries to build herself up in the Party.

I saw these losers on "Fox and Friends" touting this BS just this morning. For the record, I NEVER watch Fox, but it was on the televisions above the treadmills at my gym. Good lord, is that station in a perpetual Obama hate-fest. You could almost feel the vitriol coming through the screen - what a bunch of whiny, pathetic losers.
That shower after the workout was needed not just for sweat.

I would simply say, "If I wanted to watch this propaganda, I have a TV at home." CNN is not much of an alternative either.
What are they gonna have on the tv's at that time of morning (5:30am)? People like to watch news - they air local news as well. I agree, Fox is vile - but if it's what the majority of members choose to watch, who cares?

and played it up a bit. the governor put it in perspective. he said he read the entire transcript and that's NOT what obama was saying. more deception from Palin/mcLiar

I had the radio on in my car while driving to the park for my daily walk. I like to listen to L-D when I drive over and Hannity when I drive back - it's only a few minutes, and usually good for a laugh.
Today, L-D was ranting about Obama from the "not who you think he is" angle (there's a surprise!) and was repeatedly playing an ad being aired mostly the south/bible-belt, in which the announcer says scary things about Obama and Rev. Wright - and the only lines from Wright that you hear are him screaming (and the volume goes up): "Not God Bless America!! God Damn America!"
I wasn't laughing this time. I don't even believe in god, but I pray every day that Limp-Dick, Hannity, O'Reilly, Rove, and all the other bleating bastards who have created such an atmosphere of hate in this country will stroke-out next time they're shouting such crap.
Palin is displaying her character and she has proven she is just as heartless and just as much of a liar as many of the others we have witnessed in that party the past eight years. She fits in nicely with the crooks and liars in DC. No wonder McCaing said she was his soul mate.

John McCain should be shunned in the senate until he resigns. He needs to resign for having unleashed this first class head case Sarah Palin on the United States. I never thought I'd live to see the day when a know-nothing pig who thinks the earth was created in 7 days and who denies women the right to their own medical care and who ok'd charging rape victims for forensic evidence-gathering and who believes in witch fucking doctors could run on a national ticket. I'm infuriated that this nonsense is continuing into the 21st century.

automobile companies put covered wagon manufacturers out of business. They probably put up a good fight, too. Imagine if, in 2008, we still had companies that made covered wagons, supported only by government collusion. That's the same situation that exists with energy today.

having worked with the obama campaign since august (most people in the 5th ward in philly know me as the guy doing chair massage there on 1500 Sansom), ive found that the campaigners are a lot less on edge than they were this time 4 years ago. Im sure it has nothing to do with the fact that we're voting FOR obama rather than AGAINST the other guy.
so i would encourage you guys to only get worked up enough to volunteer on the big day tomorrow and certainly enough to vote. but seriously guys...dont let it cause you an aneurysm.
