Jan Brewer refuses to answer questions about 'headless bodies' -- even after the debate to reporters
We pointed out awhile back that Gov. Jan Brewer's fearmongering about immigration in Arizona -- painting the state as the nation's kidnapping capital, a violent place where "headless bodies" were being left in the desert -- was effectively destroying the state's economy.
Last night, it came back to bite Brewer in her televised debate with Democrat Terry Goddard -- and afterward with reporters, too:
Goddard accused Brewer of damaging Arizona's image and business prospects by portraying the state as a violent place because of border-related crime.
Goddard said that's untrue and outrageous and she should admit she's wrong. "There are no beheadings that was a false statement and it needs to be cleared up right now," he said.
She responded, "Terry I will call you out, I think you ought to renounce your support of the unions that are boycotting our state." He dismissed her demand, saying he opposes the boycott.
Afterward, reporters asked her why she didn't answer Goddard about the beheadings. They said, "About the headless bodies? Why won't you recant that… do you still believe that?" She turned on her heel and left the post-debate news conference -- and the reporters were left grumbling.
Of course, as scarce observes, it wasn't exactly Brewer's best night anyway.
So even the local Fox station was trashing her astonishing performance:
Yeah, you have to wonder how well it's going to sit with Arizona voters that Brewer will make herself into a national celebrity by appearing on the propaganda channel, Fox News, 20-plus times, but won't even talk to local reporters at all. Wonder how well that 20-point lead is going to hold up.
Of course one won't get honesty or even sanity out of extremist cult loons.
If you look at this crazy, she is expressing the same ideologies and mindset of the average Christanic Creationist. Confronted by undeniable truth, demonstrable evidence, and every reason and logic, these insane cultists merely draw a deep breath, blink their eyes a few times, then re-spew their delusional lies, confident that at least 30% of their followers will continue to swallow their lies.
Kent Hovind, anyone? This insane cultloon has the same IQ, the same honesty, the same credibility as any well known Creationist criminal either currently in prison (like Hovind) or running around free (like Morris.)
Republicans think these people are wonderful because Republicans are just as willfully stupid, just as occult-driven, just as seeped in delusional blather, just as racist and hate-filled and unamerican as their cult leaders are.
The GOP is smart. By not confronting these idiots, or offering some "faux" alternative candidate in the primaries, they will forego certain seats in this election in order to try and purge the crazies from the Party.
It's a viable long term strategy that the Democrats are unwilling to engage in.

Each of these candidates has tried to move more center now that the primaries are over. The problem is a) their past statement remain out there and the media LOVES controversy and b)

The indictment of this country is that in a Presidential election in which one candidate was someone of such an obvious dim intelligence, frat-boy maturity, and had such a horrible track record, the outcome was so close that they could steal it. And just to prove it wasn't an anomaly, after four years of utter incompetence, we actually kept him in office. It is hard to have any respect for this country as a whole after that. Now it appears that electing Obama was the anomaly. Had the economy held out just a couple more months, is there any doubt who would be running things right now?

they won't talk to local reporters, the people that really matter, but they will show up at Fox News with bells on. Sharon Angle is notorious for that at this point. Like when she called a press conference and didn't take questions. WTF? Rachel Maddow showed last night when a reporter tried to question Brewer about the CCA/SB1070 connection and she refused to answer.
She's lying about the "headless bodies" in an effort to try to justify the need for a law like SB1070. I think the idea of people being beheaded by illegals in drug cartels would scare more people away from AZ than opposing SB1070 IMO.
She appeals to the nutjobs that believe as long as she's "fighting" the Federal government on the immigration issue, they'll vote for her.

I'm actually really impressed by the reporting of that local FOX station, especially when compared to FOX News Channel. And I think that Terry Goddard is right on the money about her: she makes Arizona sound terrifying! I'm so glad that people are getting called out for using fear tactics.
At about 2:20 in the first video in response to the reporters pushing on Brewer about 'headless bodies', he leans in and quite clearly says "F*ck her", at which point Brewer turns and walks away.

Our legislature and Jan Brewer are as bad as they come - they are total Karl Rove FUCK YOU we have the majority, you can't even come to the meeting type politicians. I am fortunate to at least live in the most progressive state legislative district in Arizona, but our local legislature is full of racist and theocratic nutjobs who are total slaves to the special interests.

I am always amazed at the idiocy of republicans. This woman can't speak, lies constantly, and seems to basically be a jerk. Do her supporters, like Palin's and Angle's, simply not care about her lack of integrity, knowledge, and ability? I am unable to determine what standard republicans use to evaluate candidates: is it now actually required for them to be crazy goofball liars?
That woman has to be either high on something, bat-shit crazy, or just plain stooooopid. Or maybe all three. If by chance she gets re-elected, there's something major wrong (I mean besides Sheriff Joe) in Arizona. It would not have been difficult for her to say that she had misspoken about the Arizona beheadings, and perhaps gained a little respect. Dodging it the way she did... and the bizarre opening at the debate, make her look like a lunatic.
And her use twice of "we have did" makes her look illiterate.
