For me, Rush Limbaugh being "interviewed" for 30 minutes on Fox News was arguably the greatest advance in jaybird-naked cross-promotion since Mork showed up on Happy Days.

extended in Senate. House supposed to vote today. Prez expected to sign NLT next week.

14 weeks for all states. 20 weeks for states with UE above 9.8%.

One R Senator reminded everybody that "the American people have to realize this is the last extension."

Aimed at all who will lose their benefits NLT 31 Dec 09.

20 weeks from then - 1 Jun 10.

On that day all the jobs will miraculously come back. Hallelulah.

I thought this was going to be a long term disaster.

Good thing it's not....oh wait...it already is...and over 80% of economists believe that the job market won't get any better until 2012.

So....anybody know the best overpass in the country under which to pitch a tent?

Let's all meet there and build outward. The new urban sprawl.

I'll be in the tent with the US flag hung upside down flying but losing altitude sharply from the top.

Oops..didn't mean to do a reply. :/

...the cross-promotion on Happy Days was happened to introduce the spin-off, Mork & Mindy. And that was Mork's second appearance on the show. The first Mork episode on Happy Days, from the previous season, was so popular that Garry Marshall thought the character rated his own show- just as the first appearance of Laverne and Shirley led to it being spun off a few years earlier.

. . . and Rush's interview was just his visit to old characters from his spin-off of his show, which was, of course, FUX News. (The original episode included Rush imitating and mocking actual news hosts, all the while maintaining he was totally serious. Producers loved the idea, and ran with it.)

Of course, since Rush is the original and FUX the spin-off, I guess this is more like Mary Richards' and Lou Grant's appearance on Rhoda to attend Rhoda's wedding.

Cross-promotion? That totally blows my childhood image out of the water. I'd always thought Mork was a natural progression of the story line. The Fonze, his thumb, and "heeeyyy" had pretty much conquered the solar system by then. Facing Mork and his Nanu-nanu seemed like the next step. Ah, and what a battle it was....

Why didn't Fonzie ever take on Carmine, The Big Ragou?

And the Fonze had a past (I think there was some of the old vo-dee-o-do-do involved) with Laverne, not Shirley, iirc.

I created an account just to post it myself. In fact, I can't believe the White House's response:

"The Obama administration has expressed its disappointment at the convictions.

"We are disappointed by the verdicts," state department spokesman Ian Kelly said in Washington.

He declined to comment further pending a written opinion from the judge, but said an appeal was likely." [ From the BBC ]

Good thing we have a Democrat in the White House who is against illegal kidnappings and torture.

Disappointed? Really? This is an f*ing disgraceful response.

Many times I've wondered what would happen after Spain or Italy (or any other nation) convicts one of the many American War Criminals.

Will their names go on an InterPol Wanted List?

Could an international bounty hunter capture them and transport them to Italy or Spain or whereever for incarceration?

Clearly they're going to have to be careful about any international travel, but I wonder if they're even "safe" here in the US.

Nowwhat's picture
...

I liked happy days and mork and mindy.

I said a while back I was going to post my MRI. Well I was fooling around with the scans and Sony Vegas. Made a real short video, you'll see. The doctor that wrote the Mri official report neglected to write down this break in my thoractic. Since November 2007, I have been trying to get the proper information written down. Well just today, I finally did it. I finally got an orthopedic surgeon to put it on paper today, over 2 years later.

I have a question for a legal expert person! Can I still collect unemployment benifits after I applied for disability? I believe, I am officially, permanantly disabled, starting October 1st 2009..???

The unemployment will pay for my federal taxxes for this year, and maybe just enough to get me to a real spinal surgeon...

Whatever, heres the video of my broken back, that nobody could see for 2 years.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kp_jvg3-b4

curtilingus's picture
:p

No you cannot. You have to be an able-bodied person seeking work to collect unemployment. careful trying as you may have to pay it back.

Good luck with your medical stuff. I have, most of my family has been dealing with some serious issues lately so I can relate.

Nowwhat's picture
...

So starnge how my last 2 years went. "Their" refusal to put me in a disabled status left me collect unemployment for a long time. I did try to find a job, I am actually still looking for a managment type of postion. I don't want, to not work, I can't take it, just sitting here.

Looking back, if they didn't play the corporate games and just put me on bed rest and got me proper treatment from the begining. It for surely would've been cheaper. The state and Fed ended up paying allot of money for not helping me or protecting me. Retards.

Excelsior's picture

I'm on disability right now, and I've been told by both Unemployment and my worker's comp lawyer that there will be no unemployment benefits for me after my disability runs out...in January. So unless my lawyer can get AIG to cough up benefits for the injury I suffered while working (caused by something I was required by my employer to do) I'll be up Shit Creek without a paddle, as they say.

Ain't America grand?

There's always free cheddar in the mousetrap, baby. - Tom Waits

Nowwhat's picture
...

Sounds to me like you are recieving Workers Comp Benefits?
That should last max 3 years, as far as I know.

I would have got 3200 a month for 3 years, I was denied Workers Compensation. I was fired and told by my Lawyers to apply for unemployment. They have been investigating me since my injury, testing me, hurting me, starving me.

I will get disablility, but I thought there was no limit to the length of time for permanent conditions?
Worst case for me, I get medicare after 2 years and maybe they will pay for my surgery.

Isn't that a bitch, the big corporation I worked for dumped me, lied about me, and refused to help me after thier broken!!! equipment injured me. My health insurence policy was cancelled about 2 weeks after the 6 month window workers comp had a hold on me. They blocked me from proper care, refused to pay up the health care costs, now the TAX payer has to pay for me for life?????? When I want to work, when I paid for health insurence........

I am not sure I would call America Grand.

It is the people running the local government around here, I am not the proper class of citizen to recieve such things like health care, that is reserved for the ultra rich, evanjellokill christians in this area.

Nowwhat's picture

It may be a 90 day hold with workers comp stuff, I forgot.

The Congressional Budget Office said on Wednesday that an alternative health care bill put forward by House Republicans would have little impact in extending health benefits to the roughly 30 million uninsured Americans, but would reduce average insurance premium costs for people who have coverage.

The Republican bill, which has no chance of passage, would extend insurance coverage to about 3 million people by 2019, and would leave about 52 million people uninsured, the budget office said, meaning the proportion of non-elderly Americans with coverage would remain about the same as now, at roughly 83 percent.

The budget office has said that the Democrats’ health care proposal would extend coverage to 36 million people, meaning that 96 percent of legal residents would have health benefits. The Democrats’ bill would cost $1.1 trillion, with the costs more than covered by revenues from new taxes or cuts in government spending, particularly on Medicare.

House Republicans, including their leader, Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, have said that they did not intend for their legislation to expand insurance coverage, because they viewed that goal as unaffordable. Instead, they said the bill was tailored narrowly to reduce costs.

Former UK ambassador: CIA sent people to be ‘raped with broken bottles’

By Daniel Tencer
Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

http://rawstory.com/2009/11/ambassador-cia-pe...

The CIA relied on intelligence based on torture in prisons in Uzbekistan, a place where widespread torture practices include raping suspects with broken bottles and boiling them alive, says a former British ambassador to the central Asian country.

Craig Murray, the rector of the University of Dundee in Scotland and until 2004 the UK's ambassador to Uzbekistan, said the CIA not only relied on confessions gleaned through extreme torture, it sent terror war suspects to Uzbekistan as part of its extraordinary rendition program.

"I'm talking of people being raped with broken bottles," he said at a lecture late last month that was re-broadcast by the Real News Network. "I'm talking of people having their children tortured in front of them until they sign a confession. I'm talking of people being boiled alive. And the intelligence from these torture sessions was being received by the CIA, and was being passed on."

Human rights groups have long been raising the alarm about the legal system in Uzbekistan. In 2007, Human Rights Watch declared that torture is "endemic" to the country's justice system.

I had to listen to smarmy Yankees triumphalism today. Apart from the phony Celine Dion wannabe calling Yankees games. those cobags had the audacity to say that only they play baseball "the right way." Sure thing. They did it "the right way" for so long each inning, baseball is going to have to change their rules on mound conferences just to undo the damage that the Yankees have done to the game of baseball this series.

And another thing - the Batting Practice League only has half of its teams with any hope in March. The Senior Circuit only has two utterly hopeless teams in the Pirates and the Nats. I like the NL better for that and other reasons - mainly because the Yankees and Sawx and their overbearing fan bases aren't in it.

Actually, the Yankees picked up a significant portion of the cost of the Stadium. If you want to complain....complain to the Mets who got a sweet deal from the City of NY and then have their fans coming to a park named after a discredited institution.

The Yankees also gifted the land and old stadium site to the city, for conversion to a public park and HS baseball fields.

The Yankmees are bad for baseball; only New Yawkers refuse to see it. They are primarily responsible for the unsustainable escalation in players' salaries that have made a family outing to a MLB game unaffordable for the average American. Wonderful role models they have employed over the years as well, Clemens, Sheffield, Giambi, and on, and on. But A-Roid is a champion at last, so who cares if he cheated for years.
