Media Problems

I can not view any of your media files?
Please make sure you meet our minimum system requirements, which can be viewed here. Some third party applications install their own codecs (media decoders), which overwrite the codecs installed with the required viewer. If you are having problems using our required players, then this is most likely the case. You are urged to uninstall any offending programs, or seek advice from a computer professional. We test all our videos in the required software to make sure they operate properly.

I clicked a link from another site to download one of your videos and was just taken to the front page.
We use a system to protect our videos from being "hot linked" to other sites. You are allowed to only download videos directly from the Crooks and Liars site.

When viewing an embed video, I get no sound or the video just stops

This is not a problem with Crooks and Liars, but rather a bug that existed in Flash Player version 9 when used in Firefox. Updating to the latest version of Flash Player 10 seems to clear this problem up for most people. Adobe and Firefox are working to come up with a permanent fix.

When I click on download, the video opens up in a full browser window.
Our server attempts to force your browser to download the media files, however this is very dependent upon browser, operating system and your system's configuration. If you are not prompted to download the video, then you can simple right click on the link and select "save link as" (sometimes also called "save target as").

What version of the Flash Player does your embed player require?

Our Flash embed player is built upon the latest Flash technologies and requires Flash Player version 9.0.45.0 and above. You can always get the latest version of Flash Player free of charge from Adobe, by clicking here.
