Republican Short Term Memory Loss - Remember The Jokes About Chelsea?

While talking about the dustup between David Letterman and Sarah Palin, Republican strategist John Feehery instantly tried to say that no one made jokes about Chelsea Clinton. Contessa Brewer wouldn’t let that go and stopped him right in his tracks, which led Feehery to try and claim that Chelsea wasn’t 14 when the jokes were being made. Brewer then corrected that and reminded him, complete with finger wag and all, that Chelsea was only 12.
Considering how offended Sarah Palin is by Letterman’s jokes, I am sitting here wondering if she will boycott Rush Limbaugh now. Ok you caught me – I’m not wondering. We all know the answer to that, just like we saw how she never seemed to worry about the “jokes” her former running-mate made about Chelsea.

As for Dave, the joke was in poor taste, his staffers should have researched what child was at the game with her mother and it should have never happened. Furthermore, I personally would like to hear Dave say "I'm sorry" instead of the half apology that he gave

Dave's joke was aimed at Bristol who is not only an adult (18 years old) but also a public figure. When you voluntarily go onto mourning news and talk shows you open yourself up to ridicule. Thats part of the deal.
Dave's joke wasn't funny. He is a funny guy, but not every joke works.

Schuster thought it appropriate to refer to Chelsea as being "pimped out" for something as ordinary as making campaign appearances for her mother. And Schuster is supposed to be a reporter, not a comedian.
Now, that said, Letterman's joke was tasteless, given that the daughter that attended the ballgame was 14 year old Willow, not her older sister.

Letterman's jokes were aimed at the daughter that DID get knocked up. However - she didn't go to the ballpark and so Palin claims the joke was deliberately directed at the 14 year old daughter that DID.

The way re=Thugs treated Chelsea was reprehensible and is completely relevant to this issue - and I am glad to see it's being mentioned. Most of the Corporate owned and run media will ignore the abuse Chelsea had to endure - but at least a few are mentioning it.

Letterman, like most Americans by a 2 to 1 margin and the overwhelming majority of the international community, was no fan of George Bush and you could tell it. Which is one of the reasons I watched Letterman because like Steve Colbert and Jon Stewart, Letterman had balls to give Bush the treatment he deserved and that what part if this is all about (that and Sarah getting another 15 minutes for herself). I really have some issues with the clip though. First off, the Bush twins were going out and getting plastered in the early to mid parts of W's administration so I have a little less sympathy for them. Secondly mentioning SNL's reference to Chelsea Clinton was a cop out. Limbaugh has said some very offensive things about Chelsea and they should have called that out.
The bottom line is that comedians say offensive things sometimes. The real problem is when the offensive comedian is passing himself off as a political pundit.
