Bill O'Reilly uses Fox's recent ratings to claim America is turning against Obama
In Bill O'Reilly's new Talking Points Memo he uses Fox News' ratings to justify his ludicrous position that America thinks they are the only fair and balanced news outlet in town and the other networks are sucking up to Obama's agenda.
My God, since Barack Obama became President, O'Reilly is only getting nuttier. The lunatic fringe will do everything they can to smear Obama because they fear his success tremendously. O'Reilly is worried about the "nanny state," a typical right-wing term, but whatever solutions Obama is implementing it's all because conservatism was such a failure. He reads off the FOX lineup and touts the diversity they have. Alan Colmes is no longer even host of a Fox show....
Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Greta, "the Sarah Palin Stalker," make up most of their prime time coverage. It's filled with anti-Obama, pro-Republican propaganda. Hey Bill, everybody knows it. Give up with this "Man of La Mancha" act.
He also believes Barack Obama's popularity is diminishing because people are scared over the state of the economy. In a new Gallup poll, President Obama's approval ratings just went higher.
But O'Reilly says that while Obama is popular, it's still not fanatical. What does that mean? Who would want a fanatical relationship with the president? I do remember members of the religious right believing George Bush was the Messiah. President Obama has an incredible amount of support from the American people, and for Bill O'Reilly to justify his position by claiming that Fox News' solid recent ratings means that Obama is somehow slipping in the minds of the American people is pure nonsense. Bill O'Reilly is becoming more and more ludicrous every day.
He blames himself for not being on top of the housing bubble as a journalist. Yet he always tells his audiences that he had a PDA either. As most rational people know, we can expect interest in politics to rise doing a presidential election. So it was not surprising that MSNBC and CNN trounced Fox news in the months leading up to November 4. What we have now is a typical cycle of average American families returning to the struggles of their daily life. What the ratings show is that Fox News has not lost their wingnut base. Congratulations to Rupert Murdoch, who by the way has just lost billions of dollars. But Bill O'Reilly will never tell you that.
Here's more of his drivel from his column on BillO's website: "The End of Obama-Mania". Right.
It all has to do with fear. While President Obama retains a high approval rating, many Americans are flat-out scared about the economy. The recession is bringing massive pain to America, and responsible citizens want the truth about public policy, not partisan cheerleading.
Thus, news operations and websites that have a vested interest in seeing Barack Obama succeed in the White House are not trusted by many news consumers. One look at NBC News, for example, and you know the company line is to help President Obama, not report the unvarnished truth.
Spinning the economy does not really help people whose jobs may be in jeopardy. They need solid information about what is actually happening in order to make difficult decisions on personal spending and, perhaps, seeking new employment in a more secure industry. So, self-protection dictates they secure the most reliable sources of information available.
The point is that concentrating on ideology rather than accumulating information can lead to a distorted view of reality. Much of the media these days is in business to promote a political philosophy rather than to protect the folks by exposing dangerous situations. The watchdog press that the Founders envisioned has been corrupted by ideology.
And so the folks are left to fend for themselves, and they are gravitating toward news agencies that seemingly tell it like it is. Committed left wing newspapers are folding in Seattle, Minneapolis and perhaps in San Francisco. The New York Times had to borrow money from a Mexican guy at 14% interest. The far-left TV news operations are sinking fast.
President Obama still has wide support, but not fanatical support. Most of the folks simply want the truth, even though these days the truth can be hard to handle.

The Clown!
What is your conceptual, continuity?
Reading that blurb which was on O'Reilly's site has to be the most surreal thing I have seen or heard from that moron.
There really are alternate realities.
Wow. I am stunned.
Frist!!
Billo is still a clown. He's one of those people who play the odds.
He'll never be happy with anything . Unless it's a GOPer calling the shots. Hmmmmmmm?
What is your conceptual, continuity?
Wow, John Amato has a lot of courage to go to O'Numbnuts' website. You will never find me there. Not even to write an article for any reason.
O'Dipshit is nuts. Unbelievably crazy. Why do people watch him for anything other than entertainment? Just why?
By the way, Obama's approval rating went up from 27% to 42% in one week. This from Republicans!!!!! 42% Republicans approve Obama.
Obama's approval rebound is due to increased support from all political groups, but especially from independents and Republicans, whose support had been waning. Over the past week, independents' approval of Obama dropped from 62% to 54%, but is now back to 62%. There has been a sharp increase in support among Republicans, from 27% to 42%. Democrats' support for Obama was already extremely high at 86%, but even this has climbed slightly, to 90% in the latest polling.
I suspect the only reason the Fox News' ratings have gone up, is because so many people get a kick from watching the wingnuts implode. Its the most hilarious, and fascinating figurative train wreck in slow motion I've ever witnessed.
Watching the Opposite worlders corkscrew in borders on high art.
Hearing them claim their ratings are because they're RIGHT? Even better.
It will encourage their see-through lunacy. As they ramp up the rhetoric their break from reality is even more distinct.
WOW. and to think...I helped!
I have a theory about why Fox's ratings may be staying steady. I have even tuned them in more than usual because I want to see what twisted logic they are using to criticize the Democrats and Obama, specifically. It's like watching a sitcom. They're hilarious. They take every tiny detail and blow it out of proportion in order to find something to find fault with. But what is far more entertaining is watching them fail at finding any substantive points to criticize.
For example, Biden momentarily forgot the url of the recovery.gov website. But he did come back with it quickly. Fox jumped all over that as a gaffe. They really have to go pretty far, even with Biden. He usually gives it up pretty easily, but even he has very little to poke at.
So now that they are pretty harmless, it's fun to watch them writhe and wriggle in pain. Not to mention that they are showing just how weak they really are. That's reassuring. Watching Fox these days actually gives me a good feeling. I know we're on the right track.
I expect to see the headline "Are the American Poeple Starting Tu Turn Against Obama?" on the O'Reilly Factor every other week for the next 8 years. Bill'O will seize on every one point drop in any given poll, and ignore the story when Obama's numbers rise in a different poll. It's a racket that's bound to keep O'Reilly emplyed for a long time to come.
Somebody said that O'Loofa was probably abused as a child. Personally I don't think there is much doubt of that. I hate to give him an excuse but there has to be a good reason for him. Doesn't there?
i was expecting this sooner from oLIElly... however:
[...] Liberal hosts Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow posted gains of 32% and 134%, respectively, in total viewers since one year ago. [...]

O'Reilly is worried about the "nanny state,"
Translation:he's worried about paying his fair share of taxes.
"To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And,
at the same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and everything in between,
plus some things I can't remember, all rolled into one big "thing."
This is truth, to me. "

More people are tuning to Fox News to watch them squirm and drop into a fetus position. We waiting 8 years for this moment, so count me as guilty.
is because there's more people watching his show.
out of work, people ... people who - have already applied for all the unique white collar jobs they used to work at, and are seeing the jobs they applied for yesterday on those job search websites - by 11:30 am the next day...
sad, hopeless, angry, out of work dittoheads...
we're all doomed. ;)
Man, you'd think they'd have something else... some way of somehow having people decide who should govern the country... just can't seem to think what it could be.

Anybody else savoring the irony that O'Loofa is becoming more and more Ludicrus every day? :)

Waaaaay Off-Topic Warning: By the way, if you posted "Wishing Well" in the LNMC this past week, give yourself extra credit. If you posted "Pass the Dutchie," then take your current point total and double it. Now on to the bonus round...
Glad to see Keith and Rachel's ratings go up. They actually look at what is happening and report it, not just read off the party line. In fact, both Keith and Rachel have been critical of some of the moves Obama has been making latetly; a "Special Comment" from KO might be coming soon.
And that's the big difference between us and the Repuke base which are told what to think by their favorite a-hole talking head and are quite happy with the arrangement.
I certainly don't like a few of Obama's decisions. I can see why some people are critical of him. For me personally, I'm not going to pass judgment on his Presidency yet. He has the biggest tasks any President has had before him. Ceptin fer mebe FDR.
So with regards to that, I'll reserve my judgment for a later date.
But, He needs to be called out when people disagree with him.
But you can only beat a dead horse for so long.

Olbermann has recently given an interview (I'm desperatly trying to find it) where he admits he was biased against Clinton during the primaries. He is also hardly a reporter and falls under the opinion category. Personally, even though I agree with the progressive point of view, to me he is in the same league as O'Reilly and has lost his journalist credentials long time ago. It's a talk show, not news.
Search on youtube for a video titled "Olbermann defends his attacks on the Clintons, then shows their grace". This is not honest journalism or even honest opinion.
Olbermann doesn't pretend to be hosting a news show. It's his soap box. And lots of people enjoy watching him poke the right with a sharp stick. That's the point. If you have been watching and thinking that it was supposed to be news, you were missing the point. Glad you finally got it!
I was expecting that at least he would be truthfull, don't You. You can't put other people on the spot, accuse them of being immoral, BIASED, liars (and I completely agree that republicans are just that)and commit the same infractions. He calls himself a reporter and reporters are supposed to give us facts without bias. We can poke the right without lying or manipulating the truth, in fact it's the easiest thing to do. I don't dislike O'Reilly because I disagree 100% with him, I don't like him because he is a damn liar. Why should I hold Olbermann under a different standart?
..KO doesn't lie the way BiLLO does.
Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"
Hey, isn't that the same tie that Bobby Jindal wore?
It is! LOL.
What is your conceptual, continuity?
that FoxNews presents a range of opinions? The only non-anti-Obama person he mentions is Colmes, who doesn't work for Fox News anymore...
lol, O'Reilly is so frickin' stupid...
Your right mudshark, it may be to early for a KO "Special Comment" but I am still glad they are questioning his decisions. It's what seperates us from the Pukes.
Maybe that tie means something to Reichwingers?
Since it is a candy cane stripe affair I'm thinking it has something to do with the war on Christmas.
..how that war on Christmas is going?
Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"
"Yet he always tells his audiences that he had a PDA either" mean?
I noticed that, too. I read it a few times, trying to get it, then gave up and moved on.
Fox News and it's commentators are seriously affecting the minds of some of it's loyal viewers. All you have to do is read the rightwing blogs to see the vileness of the threads and comments. I live in Arizona and in a city that is 97% "red." The local blogs here are so viscious and vulgar it sickens me.
The media is out of control. It's not about reporting news anymore but about injecting a journalists own views. For two years Sean Hannity was obsessed with portraying Obama as a muslim terrorist. He probably still is.
I quit watching the 'news' on tv and stopped watching anything related to the Fox network....I refuse to contribute to their ratings.
I'm doing ok economic wise but I'm really scared of these rightwing nutcases walking amongst us.
Call me paranoid but after watching Alexandra Pelosi's documentary last night, I really have the heebeejeebees!
Irrelevant :-)
NOBODY 2012
We'll see.
SORRY, BUT i can't place the blame any longer on rush o'reilley savage or any of the other right wing blowhards. The blame rests securely on the people of the heartland of america who are too lazy, too complacent, too damned dumb to find other sources for their news.
they need only turn on their right wing radio and they have the gospel, the gospel that is turning this country to the dogs. apologies to our canine friends, but this country really is turning to shit and it may be too late to cease the tide.
thank you bush and all those who were complicit in swaying one-tooth one digit iq america into your america.
I like talk radio, and sites like this. I don't listen like a worshipper or a sheep needing to be led. That's because I don't place myself in some particular category; liberal or conservative, democrat or republican. More importantly, I don't place others into a category so as to react to them in a particular way(unless they place themselves into a category). I listen and judge what they say, a little about how they choose to say it, and make a judgement about the content of their words. You don't have to love every word a person says to listen to or watch the show, or read their article. How else can a person develop an opinion if they don't absorb it all?
If Fox's ratings are going up, there's a simple explanation for that: Most Americans hate to think and are incapable of forming their own opinions. They rely on having opinions formed for them, and the more simplistic the better. Hence Bill-o, Sean, and Fox News in general. Like nematodes, they do perform a necesary function in society regardless of the fact they themselves are primitive, mindless creatures.
Fox News was mercifully removed from the free-to-air satellite channel Astra here in Europe a long time ago.
Only in America, thank God!
..the audience collective IQ is going down.
Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"
We won the election and Obama continues to ride very high in the polls. Liberals are only tuning into Fox to smerk at the goons and listen to all of their whinning.
America is turning against Obama also??
Here's a video of a call into the O'Reilly Radio Factor that is making a different point...pretty funny

..how many televisions FAUX has to turn on in the basement of BillO's show in order to get those higher numbers of "viewers".
Seriously (somehow, that's a word I hate to use when discussing anything, "BillO"), seriously, who really watches BillO's show? Probably the same people who watch car races for the crashes.
Mickey: "It was an epiphany. Do you know what an epipany is?"
Keoni: "NOT NOW MICKEY!"
Is that sentence kidding? One conservative, two even crazier conservatives, and one liberalish guy who doesn't even work there anymore?! It's like saying "We have a great variety of ice cream flavors, from chocolate to dark chocolate to Dutch chocolate to chocolate chunk!"
Do you people who keep ranting on and on about Oreilly and Fox realise just how pathetic you sound...this is a non stop ongoing moan whinge about the fox network and its commentators that serves no purpose except indicate thats all you lot do is moan and whine like spoilt brats and keep the owner of this blog in the wealthy existance he is used to...ask yourselves why he keeps throwing OReilly at you all the time and Fox, because he is an indignant left wing Democratic and concerned author? CRAP!!! He runs a blog to make money and is as guilty as the wankers he throws up at you to criticise...grow up people its a game, a great big fat money making game.
What freaking planet are you from? Last time I checked, blogging was NOT on the list of Top Ten Moneymaking jobs out there.
Srsly, dude...you've just made yourself out to be one of the biggest wankers I've ever seen.

FYI-
This site has been a really informative, entertaining and thought-provoking medium for me. If John is successful--good for him he has worked hard. Ya sound a lil jealous though--heehee just sayin.
But I bet this site takes a lot of hard work, ..... Writing a daily blog I guess is really time consuming and I don't know how they all do it -
Even more important though, and not to sound terribly corny but isn`t communication good, and getting both side of a story good also, And really, isn't that what Open Source is all about???
I hope that Crooks and Liars and the ppl who post here -never- ever lose their compassion or the desire to reach and inform people . Thank you for bringing awareness & inspiring me to jump into the fight to make a difference - (cue the harp, release the doves-hee)
Kudos John- & your staff you are helping make a difference.
P.S some of the ppl here crack me up -our country is in such a serious state I appreciate the laughs.

How much is being a troll paying?
By using Bill's sense of reasoning, the disaster of any accident are what viewer want to see happen because they are in support for it, for showing such huge number in tuning for it. The 9/11 attack was the all time record for being the biggest news worthy story. Million of Americans tune it for the event. Does Bill think because its what Americans want to see?
Bill! people tuned in because it was a disaster, just like millions tune in for your show! It's a disaster and we are watching to see what screwball ideas you would say next! It's better than daytime soap opera, when we get soap and loofa jokes. It's better than "law and order", when we get the fox news security(goons) team doing homeland monitoring from abusive phone call in to your show. It's better than "Hogan's Hero" when you tell the account of Normandy of Americans gunning down the Germans in WWII!
The only difference between the "Steven Colbert report" show and your Fear Facter show is that Colbert KNOWS he funny.
If I decided to save myself $50/month by switching my satellite package to "basic", I would lose MSNBC and CNN. I would, though, still get FAUX. Same was true of my cable package when I lived in DC 'burbs. Not many of my rural neighbors can afford more than basic.
Just saying.
And I saw Geraldo's "NUDGE"---Years ago The NYTs' Allesandra Stanley published a critic article(that I did not read) saying Geraldo "nudged" an Airman out of the way to lift a woman in a wheelchair to safety. well I saw it with my own eyes. however BO' from farceNews commited libel by accusing ms stanley and the NYT of intentionally telling a lie. He used footage that I believe was from an edited, produced, Geraldo at large segment. The footage was in fact not evidence at all, any judge on earth would have laughed in their face. Probably why farceNews didn't file charges and sue the NYT for libel.
If the "journalist" BO actually looked past his nose, he would have realized that the footage he presented as evidence, prooved absolutely nothing. well except that he is a sloppy journalist who is easily fooled and was too lazy to do any work himself and pursue the issue; ie:ask the woman in the wheeelchair or one of the airmen about it. Many newspapers were fooled by the NYT half hearted retraction admitting only that the burden of proof is on NYT and they didn't have proof, and those papers said Geraldo was vindicated, they fell for a poorly presented argument that was meant to prop up what was then a new show on FOX's local affiliates:"Geraldo at large", which was so good it was replaced by the gossip show TMZ
