The arrest of ten Baptists in Haiti for attempting to kidnap and deal in child trafficking (allegedly) brings out the usual right wing defenders. Too bad the religious right acts more like a partisan political party instead of promoting true religious thoughts.

Glenn Greenwald documents the hypocrisy.

To J-Lo, human decency and real human rights are only to be delivered to her tribe.

(I'm thinking The Torygraph) claim very early off this was a case of "No good deed" going unpunished.

So let's get it straight:
Torture: good, effective;
Kidnapping: good deed, horribly misunderstood

...illegally crossing into North Korea, or manipulating a catastrophic tragedy to impose your fucking religion or way of life on the desperate, Americans need to learn to respect the sovereignty of other Nations...no matter how poor or unchristian they might be.

When a nuclear bomb finally goes off, and threatens the survival of our entire species, it will not be at the hands of an al Qaeda jihadi. It will be at the hands of some insane American Christian with too much political power here.

Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?

Here is my guess as to what these scammers were up to. They were going to "rescue" these kids and bring them tot he U.S. and sell them. Find families who wanted to adopt kids and who maybe were having a hard time or just don't want to go through the hassle of adopting foreign kids so they pay these Idahoan kid dealers big money an the kid dealers take the money to the bank. These are not the type of people who care about poor "colored" children.

the best thing for them. I guess ....

As always, Glenn Greenwald articulates a most cogent argument. In my humble opinion, right wingers are just plain nuts, and the Christian right even nuttier. These people don't respond to facts or reason, so there's little point in arguing with them. Then, politics gets thrown in on top of it, and we have a real mess.

J-Lo as in Jennifer Lopez? Sometimes I don't get the inside references.

If they were from ACORN instead, or if it had been shown on Fox first, filmed by Mr OKeefe, then they would be all up in arms ;) But since it was a nice XTian lady it has to be OK

Um, what does that last link have to do with J-Lo?

It goes to a Digby post on Glenn's column.

Please fix this? I'd really like to know what you were talking about.

Digby's post links to Greenwald's post, where she is named.

Glenn's column reminds me of the situation when a condemned criminal gets born again in prison, and the same folks who want the death penalty for all those scummy young brown males now want these pure-souled penitants released because of their religion. So much hypocracy, so little time.

Two groups with a long record of child endangerment, the repubs and the religious right. I'm willing to bet good money that these idiots have either knowingly, or unknowingly (doubt it) done business with both groups, and that a lot of people are worried that these guys will squeal if convicted.

These guys need to be in a dark, nasty prison and to drop some names.

There's more going on here than meets the eye, and Haiti is a known stomping ground for child traffickers.

These people need to pay.
