Since Bush snubbed Helen Thomas like a classless heel on his last presser, C&L's Prairie Sunshine writes:

May Helen Thomas get the first question on the first day that President Obama stands at that podium in the White House Press Room.

Obama simply must call on Helen Thomas first, as has been the practice at the white house since JFK. Only the total 4$$hole Bush Administration refused to call on her, just to make the point that they have no respect for anyone or anything. And Bush's refusal to call on Helen AT ALL the other day simply points out what a colossal 4$$hole Bush really is.

LOL

{ Deleted, Off Topic. We've been doing threads on the Middle East crisis for weeks. You're late. SiteMonitor}

...into this discussion? HMMMMMM??? OH YEAH, a black President..... { OK Left, bring it down a notch. SiteMonitor}

He likes to reply to the first post without talking about that first post just so he can see his name at the top of the screen. That should give you an idea as to his level of maturity.

Very polite response. I brought up race because it is more

ridiculous than picking Hunt. Left and left

and left and left....it's called walking in a circle LOL!!!!

you do it often. Replying to the first post on the page, without commenting on what that poster said. Why not just hit "Post New Comment" if you're not going to reply to the poster you are replying to? I conclude its because you're immature and like to see your name at the top of the page.

Filthy. Of all the words you could use you pick Filthy.

From the dictionary....

Filthy: disgustingly dirty; filled or smeared with offensive matter;

Nice choice

Ok so you have a dictionary.

Good job. I read C&L every 15 minutes or so.

Why can't we have a room full of Helen Thomases? That's what American media needs, not a room full of inane sycophants.

I actually saw a BBC reporter demand an apology from Israel's press person, Mark Regev, over Israel's refusal to let the Red Cross rescue starving children after they killed their parents and destroyed their home.

You would never see that on American television, and no American reporter would dare to ask anything from Israel other than a high-five.

Giving credit where credit is due, during Katrina there were some reporters who went to the Gulf Coast and raised some hell about what was going on down there. Even a Fox news reporter was included.

Hey, p.o.p., why don't you really piss off "Leadership" and add George Carlin's other 6 words to your name!

But I wish Sarah McClendon was still around for the second!

"Mr. President! Mr. President!"

She was a really cool and very saucy reporter who didn't beat around the bush.

Comrade said it all.

First thing I thought when I read Bush snubbed her. Obama should pick her first, and should be extremely deferential when he does.

Everything Obama does should highlight what a classless prick Bush is.

the recommendation somewhere (besides here?)

He treated Grandpa with deference during the campaign even when the old man refused to reciprocate. I'm sure Helen Thomas will be a well deserved first questioner.

I concur with this concurence!!!

Yes, I like the idea of President Obama showing respect for Ms Thomas. Obama should begin the news conference with the question: "Ms Thomas, what was the question that you were trying to ask President Bush at the Monday press conference"?

Good one.

If Thomas is going to be a darling then who would Obama's nemesis be?

...and hopefully, he'll ignore their questions.

I would bet big bucks that he will. He's very repectful of women and of his elders. I think he will just do it without any instruction at all, it's just his nature.

I just realized...your "handle" has the word piss in it.

Of all the words you could pick to represent yourself in this forum

you use a word you can't say in polite society and that represents

the main component of sewage.

Nice choice.

Well thank you for your opinion and you are welcome to it. You might check under your saddle, I believe you might find a bur there.

I like your posts. You are a progressive.

Checking saddle. Yes. Bur found, it's called my HATRED for the

mainstream media, which Hunt is a part of. Of course she is one

of the better ones, but still part of the most visible and

powerful enemy of working men and women on this planet.

are you Cheney?

Isn't she a sit-com actress?

Yep!

Linda Hunt is going to get the first question?? She was great in Year of Living Dangerously, which gives her insight into issues in Viet Nam and Cambodia. I hope she's sitting in the first row or Obama will never see her!

Huntz Hall for ambassador to The Bowery!

is a feature actress who I believe won the Academy Award for Best Actress in "As Good As It Gets" with Jack Nicholson.

She's way better than a sit-com (TEEVEE) actor.

I think Leadership is just generally confused or isn't paying attention.

He's the classic kid in fifth grade who was constantly being told by the teacher to shut up and pay attention and to stop disrupting the discussion.

BTW, PissedoffPatricia. What do you think of Lauderdale?? I'm thinking about heading down your way.

I haven't spent much time there but I known it's way too close to Miami for me. I like the Vero Beach area. I live not terribly far from Vero and it's one of my favorite places to visit and have lunch on Sunday.

Linda Hunt could play Helen Thomas...

)O(

I thought sit-coms were supposed to be funny

Unlike Mad About You.

If there wasn't a laugh track, nobody would laugh. I don't think any of them are funny. Part of the dumbing down of America.

Happy to hear that you are feeling better. Now are we talking about Helen Hunt (the actress) or Helen Thomas (the reporter)?

I chose to place the words "pissed off" before my name the night my friend told me he was being sent to Iraq when the invasion began. He was 49 yrs old and in the Fla. Nat'l Guard. Thankfully he returned home 13 months later safe and sound.

Who is Hunt?

RE: "Yes. Bur found, it's called my HATRED for the
mainstream media, which Hunt is a part of."

you've never made a habit of reading Ms. Thomas' columns. They may appear in MS newspapers, but she asks good questions writes about what it true and what she thinks needs to be said. She is hardly an enemy of "working" people.

... that Helen Thomas has been among the White House Press Corps before 'mainstream media' came into usage as a conservative/neocon boogeyman.

And if you truly believe the media is the most visible and powerful enemy of working men and women, boy, have you bought into the drivel Rush Limbaugh and others have been feeding you.

Beyond that, what's with the dissecting of people's names? If you're questioning others, then we have to ask what your credentials/claim to 'leadership' are. 'Cause we've had eight years of a Decider and a Leader, and he's proven to be nothing but a little boy who's frightened of an old woman to the point that he has to ignore her at news conferences.

)O(

Isn't that burr?

..

)O(

Before or after his split with his comedy partner?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Z40Msk2jys&fe...

Your name has "lead" in it. Lead has been known to cause brain deficiencies. just saying....

)O(

That's what caused the downfall of Rome.

Question: What other direction can you fall?

over and backward ;)

...in love???

)O(

That sounds like falling into a trap.

The worst of all traps! Yet we willingly jump in...

)O(

But it cost half of everything to get you out.

Why should we deny gays that priviledge?

I agree. They should have the right to be as miserable as the rest of us!

Awww, you old romantic you. ;)

)O(

But ain'tcha still sonna hit the floor?

Or is it just the theory of gravity?

..a tee shirt I gave my nephew:

"GRAVITY: Not Just a Good Idea > It's The LAW!"

the main component of sewage is water.

Get a grip.

...isn't it "Leadership"? A black guy in your White House on January 20th night, making love to his "sculptured" butt wife....if you need a suicude hotline number I can help you...Lol.

I voted for him, campaigned and organized for him, cried like a

child when he won. Attack me, like a Republican would, instead

of what I say. It's like in the Army, sure Lt. Smith is a good

officer, but he is still an officer. Thomas is a good member of

the mainstream media, but still a member of the mainstream media.

Still a member of the Washington establishment, still goes to parties and drinks with criminals.

And you don't appear to be a good communicator.

Not much of a leader either.

)O(

So what other market would you prefer she be in?

Mainstream media is not so bad, it's corporate infotainment, and lapdog journalism that is.

Stop parroting Rush Limbaugh-style memes like an obedient conservative drone.

The Mainstream Media is a boogeyman created for the sole purpose of legitimizing conservative ideologues. You are assuming that the reason the media does not report something is because of inherent bias or inability to report fact; the media is affected by the criticism and begins to lean their narrative to favor conservative views without critical review.

You are told to hate the MSM, and you do, like a good little fascist follower. Not a 'leader.'

Would you be as quick to deride 'Mainstream Math' because someone like Rush Limbaugh told you 2+2=5 and the math professors don't want you to know the truth?

)O(

Yes and no. There's a mainstream media alright, primarily owned by five corporations, GE, Newscorp, Time Warner, Disney and Verizon. However, it's the so called "liberal media," that's the official boogy-man.

Cable of course was supposed to be the alternative to broadcast "MSM" of the big three networks, ABC, NBC and CBS, when conservatards moved to them, but now most of it too is owned by the big five.

I thought it was a fat ass, but then again, can't google at her cuz the secret service could throw you in jail for thought crimes.

Don't knock it till you've tried it.

Googling, or getting nabbed by the SS for thought crimes? ;D

:>

)O(

Lol...you're slipping.

)O(

I felt expected to. One plays to the house.

In France, they have public urinals called pissoirs.

"Wait for the shake.."

tinkletinkle

)O(

"taking the piss" (putting someone on to get a rise out of them, i.e. taking the piss out of them)

)O(

I've heard the Brits also say someone is pissed to mean they'e drunk.

Dangerously off-topic...

and she has a great sense of humour as well (she and Stephen Colbert make a great team).

The way she was banished and ignored by dubya is simply disgusting. I am certain that Obama, being the gentleman that he is, will treat her right.

We love you, Helen!

Hillary's confirmation hearing is live on tv right now. I know c-span is carrying it and I imagine the other cable news channels are too.

no more Clintons..please world

Giving the first nod to Helen Thomas would, above all else, signal that Obama respects real journalists. I expect no faux press credentials for the likes of Gannon.

Obama never appearing on FOX would accomplish the same thing.

This brave woman, when called upon, could very well ask why we as a nation are not standing up for the massacred children of Gaza.

Call on her, Mr. President!

Helen Thomas was talking about Nixon when she said something like, “you don’t go to their parties, you don’t drink their booze, nothing is off record, and if they don’t want their name used you don’t use their information except to get someone that will go on record, last of all you should never be afraid that a story is going to hit them in the nuts, as long as the facts are right.”

He was afraid of her.

Since he couldn't run away from her

(like he did with Vietnam, NOLA, failed oil bizness, Osama bin Laden)

or get Poppy to fix it -

he avoided her like the craven coward that he is.

Free Helen Thomas!

Dumbya was scared shitless of Helen.

Helen saw behind Bush's podium so Bush knew what the question was going to be.

"Mr. President, was that a half bottle of Jack Daniels and a cocaine straw I saw behind the podium?"

"What About Gay Marriage?"

“An Unconscionable Legacy”–Veteran White House Correspondent Helen Thomas on the Bush Presidency

President Bush held his final news conference Monday. Bush fervently defended his record, saying he made the nation safer following the 9/11 attacks, rejected the idea that the nation’s moral standing has been damaged over the past eight years and defended the government"s response to Hurricane Katrina. We speak with veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas, she’s the most senior member of the White House press corps and has covered every president since Kennedy.

Bush is still upset that Helen almost made Dana Perino aka Marcia Brady cry in a prevous press conference.

...

Both good ideas, the comment of the day thread, and Helen Thomas.

a special place in Hell for W. What he did yesterday to vet JOURNALIST Helen Thomas was the act of an ignorant jerkoff. Ms. Thomas has more class in her pinky then W. can ever aspire too.

Here's hoping that she does get the first question at the first presser and at all that follow!

Mr. President, since you are in agreement that waterboarding is torture, and torture is a crime according to the Geneva Convention, will you seek charges against Bush and Cheney since they have admitting to ordering the procedure?

Answer: Helen, today I am Forward-looking so hard that I don't see any more questions for you in the future.

Yep

Prob something similar will go down.

)O(

Sounds like you're a hopin' Obama is introduced to Monica.

at his side

Imaginary ESP....enjoy yourself.

to the guy you elected, huh Left?

Unless that Fox wet dream press conference Mr. Curtilingus had last night has actually occurred, it is projection.

But do you agree with the question L&L? I stole it from Jonathan Turley

Your answer was baseless BS that Coulter would enjoy.

when asked a similar question by Stephenopolis.

You did not answer my question.

Should Obama be asked about possible crimes of the previous administration?

OK you did answer it.

Before you place Obama in the same category, maybe you should wait for him to do the same to Thomas.

L&L

I'm sure you heard his answer to Stephanopolis. Obama stated that while he wanted to uphold the law he wanted to look forward. It was disingenuous, dodged the question, and essentially paved the way for no prosecution. there is no reason to think he will not give the same political answer when asked the question again.

As far as a projection, my comment said "Helen's first question should be" how is that a projection and not a recommendation? Obama's answer that I gave was a joke but I predict his real answer will be more hollow and less direct.

AMY GOODMAN: Helen Thomas, what would you have asked President Bush if you got a chance yesterday? Did you expect that he would call on you?

HELEN THOMAS: No, but I wish that he had, because I would have—I mean, I would have asked a news question. I would not have gone into the nostalgia, though I’m not criticizing it, because I do think the reporters had to wrap up to find out what he really thought about himself and his legacy. But I would have asked why—why do you continue to support the killing in Gaza? And that’s what we’re doing.

I mean, you can’t remain neutral. I remember the rabbi who spoke at the Martin Luther King march on Washington. Heschel had a cameo appearance, and he said, “The greatest sin of all in the Nazi era was silence.” When you remain silent to the suffering and the incredible aggression against a people, then you are culpable.

See how easily that can interchange with Obama and Bush?
The transition is Seemless.

Seems like less of a transition everyday!

it has been my observation after watching many obama press confrences that he uses a list with reporters names written on it of reporters he has scedueled to let ask him questions, and he answers and when he needs to looks down on something maby a telaprompter or something that he uses to refresh his memmory with of a scripted answer, arent you afraid helen might be above being used by just another politician and ask obama real questions such as why hes following the bush agenda if he really offers change!

Bush and his last brief with the Press:

Bush standing at podium, says to himself"oh, dangit, there is that old nasty woman, Thomas, always having to raise her hand to ask me questions that I have to make up a story and she really irritates me and brings out the worst in me. I am just going to pretend I don't see her". One hour later there is Ms. Thomas still raising her hand. Bush saying to himself, "Dang nab it, that old lady is still raising her hand, she never gives up, I refuse to call on her, she will make me out to look like a fool and this is my last press conference, and I want to show this reporters that I was a Great President, so I am just going to ignore her. Ninety minutes with the Press, Bush thanks the reporters and walks away and there is heard 4 claps. Yes, he sure impressed those 100 reporters.

Yes - I'd LOVE to see Obama ask his first question, as president, from Helen Thomas. I'll be disappointed if he does not. She's an institution.
*

AMY GOODMAN: And finally, do you have your first question planned for President Barack Obama?

HELEN THOMAS: Sure. I have a thousand of them. I say, you know, what are you going to do to fulfill your ideals that so expressed on the campaign trail? Or are you going to submit, like most presidents, just follow through, make—try to carry out your promises that don’t—that have no meaning except for how many people gave you money?
from: http://www.democracynow.org/2009/1/13/an_unco...

Helen should DEFINITELY be given the first question!

She said, "It tradition that the Newswires, AP, ask the first question."

I think she should be so honored, as would the country for her to do so.

Helen goes first.
