Shuster started off by telling Ziegler that Palin thought

Shuster then brought up Ziegler's idiotic statement when he said that the media was "assassinating Palin." Right-wing propagandists will cry "victim" everytime.
Shuster: Wait as second, wait a second. You think it's accurate to use the word 'assassinate'? Regardless of the heavy criticism, doesn't it diminish real assignations when you throw out the word 'assassinate' because Sarah Palin didn't like some of the questions she got in an interview?
Ziegler: I believe her character was assassinated, David, and I believe this network played an enormous role in that process and you took the clip of the Katie Couric out of context.[..]

You see, with guys like Ziegler---when he's confronted with facts that disprove his propaganda, he gets abusive. Where have we seen that before? And I find it laughable that Palin and her supporters will not admit that she was ill-prepared to run and hasn't taken responsibility for her own actions, but yet they ask average Americans who are losing their jobs to take responsibility for their own failings.
Anyway, Ziegler will be on again for Round 2 with Shuster at the 3/6PM hour. It will probably be plenty entertaining. The right-wingers are so worried about the Fairness Doctrine being pulled, but in reality, when they are given time to explain their positions, that's when they are exposed as the whack jobs they really are like....John "The Joke" Ziegler.

I thought Ziegler actually held his own. The clip gave me a pounding headache. I find it so unbelievable that anybody could be so enthralled by Sarah Palin and actually blame the media for the fact that the public realized she is a dangerous idiot. He must be thinking with his you know what.

My dad was a severe alcoholic. He always blamed all the problems that resulted from his drinking on everybody else. Either he couldn't see or didn't want to admit, all the problems were caused by him. This guy and Palin among others remind me of my father. They just can't see or admit that the problems they have are their own. There must be a word for that, but if there is, it escapes me now.

Ziegler used to be a media figure in Louisville. He left after he said something nasty about a local anchor who was his ex-girlfriend. He also is good friends with KY-03 Democrat John Yarmuth (pretty liberal). They had a Point-Counterpoint type segment on the local news.

Nobody thinks less of Palin than me, but I think Shuster dropped the ball on this one. Having watched the whole (hole) clip, Palin mentioned she reads the NYT and USA as well as the local papers, not that she comprehends any of it and most likely just looks at the pictures, but she did say she read them and Shuster walked into a trap on that issue. I think Ziegler also scored in exposing Shuster's subjective bias. I think it would be much easier to deconstruct Ziegler's bullshit just stating the known facts and not giving him any wiggle room. Shuster blew it IMO.

Let's get one thing straight, the Fairness Doctrine is not about any sort of restriction. It is about letting other points of view on a particular topic be broadcasted on the public airways. We (the people) pay for them through our taxes, why shouldn't we have our say? Most importantly there is no way nutcases are going to sound any less insane so long as they spew like Zeigler.

I really like the concept of the Fairness Doctorine and feel that it served our country well for 40 years (if I remember my history). It should not have been struck down, but it was over 20 years ago, and times have changed. Who, in 1987, heard of a web address? How many households were capable of, let alone receiving cable TV?

Ziegler was trying to equate someone who failed THREE TIMES to answer the basic question of what the job description was of the position she was running for, stood like a deer in headlights when asked the specifics of which newspapers she read, could not name a single Supreme Court decision she disagreed with past the republican mantra of Roe vs Wade and utterly failed not only to answer a question on what has been the foreign policy of the US for the last eight years, namely the bush Doctrine, to a political leader who had been murdered!!!
I'm sure this is just the start of the 2009 republican false equivalancy season but it has got off to a bad start if this is where the likes of you and Ziegler are going.
