This story is a few days old, but I had to get it out here on C&L. We've seen the religious right infiltrate the military over the years, but this is getting very nutty.

Putting Bible codes on weapons is actually a smear of Christianity. Maybe not for these freaks.

"It allows the Mujahedeen, the Taliban, al Qaeda and the insurrectionists and jihadists to claim they're being shot by Jesus rifles," he said.

Weinstein, an attorney and former Air Force officer, said many members of his group who currently serve in the military have complained about the markings on the sights. He also claims they've told him that commanders have referred to weapons with the sights as "spiritually transformed firearm[s] of Jesus Christ."

He said coded biblical inscriptions play into the hands of "those who are calling this a Crusade."

According to a government contracting watchdog group, fedspending.org, Trijicon had more than $100 million in government contracts in fiscal year 2008. The Michigan company won a $33 million Pentagon contract in July, 2009 for a new machine gun optic, according to Defense Industry Daily. The company's earnings from the U.S. military jumped significantly after 2005, when it won a $660 million long-term contract to supply the Marine Corps with sights.

"This is probably the best example of violation of the separation of church and state in this country," said Weinstein. "It's literally pushing fundamentalist Christianity at the point of a gun against the people that we're fighting. We're emboldening an enemy."

As usual Brent Bozo's MRC operation took offense to ABC's report because the company that makes this garbage (Trijicon) wasn't included in his report. "ABC's Brian Ross Hyperventilates Over 'Secret Bible Codes' on Military Guns"

Sure, he hyperventilated. Scott Whitlock doesn't seem to understand this type of insane circus clown logic when applied to weapons is seriously deluded.

I would suspect that as Religiulization of the military, we will continue to have what occurred in the Academy. Promotions will only go to those who belong to the the evangelical churches, hazing will be done to those who don't belong (ie, Orthodox christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, etc.) and counsel to convert will be given by superior officers. And the army will become an arm of these churches. Add that to the corporate armies like Xe(Blackwater) that corporations have a right to have under their new constitutional rights and we know who will have their fingers on the button.

I am a little gun shy (no pun intended, it's just there) of links right now as my computer just came back from the shop due to something I picked up here at C&L. It wasn't from a link I followed but once something like this happens, I am just shy of any site for a while. Is it the one where he shows a bible hand grenade? If so, that's it.

The religious right delivers millions of votes. The far fringe of religion, hatred, racism and subjugation of political power to the few is main stream and normal.

I have been a political activist for about 43 years this is one of the lowest points in my lifetime. A few low lights along the way were Hubert Humphrey's nomination for president, Nixon's reelection, Ford's pardon of Nixon, Reagan's election and reelection, Clinton's decision not to pursue criminal investigations of the Regan/Bush administration, Clinton support of NAFTA and the Telecommunications act, Bush's election and reelection. The last few days had led me to believe that the game is over. The dream of a just United States is done. We have seen first hand the power of the giant corporations with the health care debate. The US voter's brilliants on display when they are mad that the current administration and congress are not progressive enough so they elect a far right wing Republican. The supreme court decides that the country is not moving fast enough to a Fascist state so now the giant corporations can spend even more money to control every aspect of government and our lives. The Beck, Limbaugh, Fox new idiots can spew all the crap they want but the bottom line is they can deliver millions of votes. The American voters willingly and happily ruin a just and fair United States and I am to tired to fight anymore. God, Guns, and Gays, lies after lies on top of lies wins elections. The truth and facts be damned.

You would think that a military hardware company would start doing this during the Vietnam War era. But close enough....these codes have been engraved into Trijicon sights since the Carter administration. The spokeswoman for Trijicon said so today!

So for FOX and Friends to argue that the Jihadists 'started it' is stretch. Yes, we have had contemporary Muslim terrorism since the early 1970s. But they didn't target us until 1983, on their turf, I might add.

And I love the F&F comment in the same clip. "New Zealand...! Who are they shooting at!"

Perhaps the correct comment should be something like - 'lucky they are still buying our hardware, rather than do business with German manufacturers."

So the obvious question is what other types of military hardware have Bible chapter and verse codes? Aircraft? Helmets? The insides of footwear? The list might go on and on.

If it helps soldiers get by then so what. I don't care what extremist think or feel about this. I'm not religious b/c of my time in Iraq and Afghanistan but while I was deployed religion played a big factor in keeping some of my fellow soldiers head on straight so it doesn't bother me at all. This should have been something handled in-house with the military. They should have threaten to cancel the contract and demanded more then a 100 free kits to remove the markings.

Dhalgren's picture

...if soldiers didn't complain and journalists didn't investigate. So this had to be aired out. So be it!

Oh like when I was on the front lines during the war in a flak vest and the higher ups in the rear had IBA (bullet proof armor)? or about how the contractors never finishing their jobs? Caerus's picture

Seems to me that there were several warriors in the bible that fought in defense of the faith and I think some like gideon whose name means "Destroyer or Mighty warrior", were asked to fight. Have you ever heard the song Onward, Christian soldiers? What do you think that means? Why do you ask so pointedly "you guys want"? Do you think that soldiers necessarily "want" to kill? I think that people that attempt to make the "I thought christians were supposed to be peaceful" argument only do so the discredit and really don't want to even know. Much in the same way other deranged people would witness a pacifist taking much abuse and punishment finally defend themselves, then ask "I thought you were supposed to ba a pacifist"? You tell me, what makes you guys want to do that?
